From the writings of Senator Cassius Publicus of Roma
Roma is truly magnificent to behold, only when standing atop the balcony and gazing across the city do I truly appreciate where we have come in these past years.
Our once small City-State has become the dominant power here in Italy subduing the Greeks, Samities and even some Gauls, our borders stretch far into the North and South and with Pyrrhus fighting his neighbors in Greece the lands to the south are rip for the taking.
Many in the Senate are against Southwards expansion however, claiming angering Pyrrhus would invoke yet another costly Pyrrhic War one are broken First Legion cannot afford since the Second has been disbanded.
However Senator Ezekiel Laevinus campaigns the opposite, but with such charisma that it won’t be long that the others will follow his ideas again.
A vote tomorrow will decided Rome’s future – if our depleted forces should march south or not, but whatever happens, Laevinus is right; war is coming and soon.

From the documentation of the Senate - Spring 272 BCE (Unknown Writer)
“Many of you still maintain that a war against Epirus would be costly, is that not doubting us, do you doubt Rome?" A tall man stood in the centre surrounding by shouting Senators; his arms outstretched as if pleading to the men around him. His spoke with such passion that the Senators stopped talking perhaps offended by his comment. As silence fell the man continued.
"Yes it is true the Pyrrhic War left us with a crippled Legion, but if you can remember that, remember that we inflicted such a blow on his army that he fled back to Greece, Taras is undefended!" The man had short black hair and wrapped in a white Toga he looked every bit as commanding as he was brave, for very few among the Senate had been against another Pyrrhic War.
Silence remained as the Senators seemed to consider the man words, when one a tall man with long bleached hair rose.
“And what would a Plebian know of such matters, not a year since you were permitted to speak among us and you pretend to know everything!” A smile grew across the man’s face he had the put spoken Senator where he wanted him. Only a year had passed since Ezekiel had been a Novi Hormines and a Pedarii as well he wouldn’t allow himself to lose to such a man.
Quiet again fell on the room as all eyes turned to Ezekiel Laevinus awaiting his response.
“True I am off Plebian heritage but if it was by Fortuna’s will that a Plebian be permitted to speak in this place then who are you to challenge it. Or Senator Crovius are you jealous perhaps me being here offends your pride in someway am I right?” Ezekiel stopped giving it enough time for his insult to sink in before continuing.
“AS a Plebian I know what it’s like to lose your city to raider and pirates like Pyrrhus if we DON’T act now then Arpi will fall, Rome will be endanger!”
He had done it, it always touched a nerve if the Senators believed their safety to be at risk.
“So the Legion WILL move!” Ezekiel added.
A cheer range throughout the Senate only less than about 30 joined in. The Legion would take Taras, war had begun.
