Default The Glorious Migration of the Scythians

(I should have been posting AAR sthe whole tim but screw it, i've been having fun)

So you wish success as the Scythians, gather round the fire, grab a horn of mead and listen up! We began as a simple, undermanned and underfunded nation of steppe warriors. In my forefater's time (it's now 210 bc), Our great leader had a vision, he knew that the wealth and th population for great expansion lay to the south in the Peloppeneseus. We gathered our scattered warbands and bound them together like a spear and thrust southward. Our first major conwuest was Byzantium. We then assembled a mighty flkeet and sent an army to take Rhodes for the increase in naval trade. Our first major opposition were the Macedonians. Ahh these were brave warriors, but slow. Our leaders kept telling our men that therer are sometimes more of the enemy than we have arrows, so many times we retreated from the field after inflicting 8, 9, even ten to one casualties simply because our warrriors ran out of arrows and could slay no more.
We to Bylazorum and made it our new capital because we knew that our destiny lay south. While we concentrated our war effort agaianst the macedonians, we kept a northern army in the field to combat the Germans who kept biting us in the arse. A generation later the Germans were no more and we had driven the Macedonians out. Around 230 BC there were no more greeks or macedonians left to fight but a new enemy had appeared, the accursed Romans. From 230 to today we fought the Brutii many times and fought them well. After the Marius reforms kicked in it became harder but our brave horse archers overcame. We now have a new eenemy in the North, the Julii. The Parthians took one of our northern outposts but that was a barren wasteland anyway and our people have moved south.
The cursed Julii keep taking over our settlements in what used to be Germany. Bahhh! Within the next season we will have four full stacked armies consisting of two generals, 3 onagers and the rest a mixture of horse-archers and Scythian noble horse archers upon the Italian penninsula. We have taken Patavium and Tarantum already. There is but one Brutii city left and it shall fall soon. Our troops in the north advance upon Arratium and the southern armies shall eliminate the Brutii and drive the Scippi from Capua.
The next step will be a four army assault upon Rome itself which shall not fail. We shall see how long the Julii can keeep sending full stacks against us once we have cut their legs out from underneath them. We shalll have all the profit and manpower of Greece and Italy combined, let us see the Julii compete when all they have to draw upon are central european splat towns. Once Italy falls it will just be a matter of time too accumulate 50 provinces. Our province count has held steady at 18-20 during the whole war/migration. With Greece, Macedon and Italy beneath our boots the potential for further expansion is unlimeted. We shall drive the Julii out of Germany then turn our attenetiont westward. That is my tale, it is an unfinished song that shall be completed later as time allows.

If i remember right you take a screenie by clicking the print screen button in RTW. Also if i remember right your also gonna need a program to convert the image taken so you can post it.

That should be right if not, someone else will correct me, also keep the Sycthian tale coming.

    Hi IceWolf,
To take a screeshot, simply press the "Print Screen" on your keyboard. It is in the section between the letter pad and the numeric keypad above the delete key and the insert key on a standard English keyboard.

Press it as many times as you like to take as many screenshots as you desire in one game of R:TW! Afteryou have completed your screenie festival, you can gain access to them by going into your "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\tgas" folder where they are stored as .tga files. Most unfortunately, this file type cannot be stored on ImageShack or any other hosts, so, it requires conversion to a different file type. I prefer to change it to a .gif file, although any of ".jpg", ".jpeg" ".png", ".gif", ".bmp", ".tif", ".tiff" or ".swf" will be fine for hosting, using this program. However, a quick Google Search for a tga converter, provides a brilliant list of high-quality converter software.

Once you have converted your file to a more commonly used file type, you need to host it on the internet! To upload through the supreme and popular ImageShack, you have to find the handy tool-bar within the Org - simply scroll down to find it while posting:

Simply click the browse button and go hunting for that now converted screenie within your system!

Click "host it" and away you go, be patient, because imageshack is so large it could take up to about thirty seconds during high activity depending on the file size.

Next double click on the text which reads "Hotlink for forums one" or "Thumbnail for forums one", right click and press copy and then paste it into the Org!

Once you've done all that, press "Submit Reply" in the Org, and your image is posted! Hope this helps you, good luck, cheers!

BTW, it sounds great so far.

Search for IrfanView. I've been using it for years.

Ye gods this is hard. ok, I've got ADVANCED BATCH CONVERTER installed (thanks Omanes) within it I converted my screenshot, I think, to scyth1.jng but I don't know how to upload it to imageshack so when I use the BROWSE button under "Additional options" it can't find it. I clk on OPEN under BROWSE and it opens up a folder that has like every image I've ever copied/saved on the computer but my scyth1.jng isnt there. I tried typing that in for the file name and the puter can't find it. Why did my other images upload to imageshack and this one didn't? please help, thanks

    (back to our story)
"More meade for all! It is now 203 BC and Arminium, Arritium, and Croton have fallen to our mighty horsemen. I now have 4 full stacks on the Italian penninsula. 2 in the north and 2 on the boot. There is one more close by in the north. Soon i shall have 5 full stacks to bring to battle against Rome itself. Patavium rebeled, but I retook it. The only Roman prescence is Capua and Rome. Our problem is that our armies conquer faster than we can build garrisons in the conquered cities, so now we wait, but doom for the Romans is eminent"

Why JNG? What kind of extension is that? Should be JPG or JPEG.

As for imageshack, I usually save the screenshot needed to the desktop, then go here, click "BROWSE", find my file at the desktop and in a twinckling of an eye I've got my pic uploaded.

    ADVANCED BATCH CONVERTER
I still recommend IrfanView, coz it's not only the tool for converting, it also allows to edit pics (i.e. cutting unneeded things off) and resizing/resampling pics.

This is indeed turning out to be quite an interesting story. For the screens, I would suggest making a folder called Scythian AAR, and put any pics you convert about this AAR into that folder. It will keep it a lot easier to manage.

    Good luck,

I'm too far in the bag to attempt screenies again but here's an AAR

"It's now 201 BC. Capua has fallen to our mighty archers. The SPQR scum bribed Arminium to revert to them but that was crushed within a turn although not without cost. I have defeated two SPQR field attacks, they have now all retreated to the city of Rome although there must be 1300 +/- of them in there.
I am beseiging it with 2 full stacks, hoping that the Romans will come out and play as my armies are better suited to field warfare. I repulsed an attempt by the pathetic Julii to re-take Patavium. I have 2 othre full stacks on the penninsula, one north one south, and one in Armenium being rebuilt. Rome will fall it's just a matter of time and cost.
While I easily defeated the Brutii on the isle of Kydonia, they still have warships, so I think they have taken Rhodes. After establishing a garrison in Kydonia I will send that army to Rhodes. Also there is a rebellion in Corinth Greeks. But I have a nearby stack to thwart them.

    (I'm dling IRfan now)

Greetings, It is 200 BC and Rome has fallen. The SPQR led 2 assaults out of the city. The 1st battle was a tactical defeat but a strategic victory. They drove us back but it cost them dearly. The second assault was 1300 SPQR against 900 brave Scythians led by Hertiges and we crushed them. Now the 1st assault upon the city failed and our brave faction leader Madyes fell in the assault, but valiant Hertiges army assaulted it a 2nd time and succeded. Rome is ours there was 20k of plunder! We shall now retrain the armies and lead them north against the Julii. We have an army on Kydones that is set to sail against the Brutii holdout on Rhodes. Glory is ours!
