Default Battle replay thread- post your replays here

    Greetings, guild members.

This thread is for posting and viewing awesome battle replays. Create your own custom battles and share them with your fellow members here! I have some to share, which have already been posted on the battle tactics thread. So I will repost them here, and add some more of my own. I would really love to see how the rest of you perform in combat. Some tips: Try to make the battles interesting and winnable for your enemies. A replay about 500 heavy cavalry pounding some peasants is good for a laugh, but not much else.
For my replays, I am either outmanned, outgunned, or I am attempting to perform a specific maneuver to illustrate a tactic. They all should be fairly interesting, so give them a look, and of course POST your own replays.
Your assignment: Post battle strategies, tactics, or interesting battles, anything that is fun and informative. You could even attempt to recreate a historical battle if you know your history.

I hope this thread does well, and you all enjoy the replays.

For my battles, you can upload them from this link, and then copy them into your M2TW/Replays folder. Create a folder with the same name if you have no replays.

There is also included a text file with a description of all the battles.

This is the "Death to Stampy" series of battle replays. I have a fascination with making elephants, and the mongols in general, die.

    Death to Stampy #1-
French cannons only versus elephants, defending bridge
    DTS 2-
English Trebuchets only versus elephants, bridge defense
    DTS 3-
    English Trebuchets again
    DTS 4-
Mongolian rocket launchers only versus 2 stacks of Timurid elephants
    DTS 5-
English retinue longbowmen only versus elephants. Only 84 casualties!
    DTS 6-
    English retinue longbowmen versus BOTH:
Mongolian superior army/cavalry and Timurid elephant army!
notes: My captain survives being trampled by two elephants.
I decided to mop up the survivors which takes a while so feel free to exit.
    DTS 7-
Only Halberd militia versus Timurid elephants and cavalry. First time I've seen an all infantry army decimate elephants and cavalry.
    Death to Mongols-
Longbowmen only versus both Mongols and Timurids
    Heroic Defense-
Basic english levy spearmen and basic longbowmen versus BOTH hordes at maximum strength!

BONUS battles- You'll have to see for yourself.

I have just one replay you may find interesting: The Power of Stakes - a few English Longbowmen against a full stack of French cavalry

    EDIT: vanilla 1.02

Thanks a lot, I really enjoyed these.

I'll post a few when I get time.

Could we also say which version of MTWII it's for with posting them as well?

Slightly off-topic, but how do you make replays?

Is it only an option in custom battle mode or can you make them from campaign games?

    Cheers

At the end of a custom battle, there is a button on a Battle results screen that allows you to save a battle replay.

As the campaign battle replays are concerned, some people say that you can get the replays by copying the Medieval II Total War\temp\campaign_battle.rpy into the Replays folder.
But this method never worked for me...

I've tried out a few custom battles to make replays, but I don't really do anything terribly dramatic, and when I watch them myself even if I'm badly outnumbered it seems to mostly amount to fast forwarding until the crash, and then watching the enemy rout. I guess I just don't have any cinematic flair. ;)

    Default Heroic defense of Scotland

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/lc9ne4

Here, Scottish peasant archers and a few units of axe infantry hold of a massive army laying seige to a Scottish city.

Since the English have with them 3 seige towers, 3 rams, and 3 ladders, 5 units of Dismounted Knights, 5 units of levy spearmen, several units of retinue longbows, some mounted knights, and a fully armored general, and the battle odds are against me for 90 percent of the battle at a rate of 3:1 odds or worse, this particular battle demonstrates the ability of even the weakest of archers to repel attackers, and the ability of just a few well-placed infantry to hold off an entire legion of far superior troops.

The strategy is very simple: my archers have the sole task of eliminating seige equipment with flaming arrows. My few units of infantry have the task of keeping the invasion force occupied and preventing them from entering the gate. If the enemy were to use his seige towers properly, my peasant archers would not be able to defend against them. If the enemy managed to smash the gate and enter the city, all hope would be lost.

Only by sacrificing the lives of my brave men could I hope to hold the walls and keep the enemy from entering the city. Few of my heroic infantry survived the battle, and my archers took a beating.

But I routed the English pigs, and taught them something about Scottish bravery. They tasted the back o' me hand.

Watch Askthepizzaguy In action against human opponents!

I team up with the brave Sir Robin against fellow forum members "Joshua" and Mordred (aka ForgotMyOldNick)

The strategy? Sir Robin commands the brave and heavily armored infantry division, and yours truly commands the cavalry. Everyone loses a large percentage of their forces, but Robin manages to distract the cheating Joshua (No gunpowder was allowed...) with his infantry and pin down Mordred while I decapitate the cavalry contingent.

Most of the action in this battle centers around pizza guy's tactics. Other than the cut-and-dried infantry on infantry action, Sir Robin's gallant men can do not much more than the task they have been given, fight for their lives. Due credit does go to Sir Robin for holding his nerve and keeping his general safe (with some good teamwork from pizzaguy).

After surrounding Mordred's cavalry division and pounding them to death, Pizza guy style, infantry comes swarming in my direction. I evade, and head towards his exposed crossbowmen. Again the infantry comes at me, and I evade them, cross the map and attack Joshua's general for the assist. His general slithers away this time, but I manage to escape and attack Mordred's general, slaying him.

This causes a mass rout of Mordred's troops, already wavering due to the fight against Sir Robin, and crippled due to my attack on his cavalry and crossbows. Now, Robin has a fighting chance against Joshua's men.

I cut the head off of the second serpent, and slay Joshua himself, causing the remaining forces to rout.

These tactics were done in real time, and all quite deliberately. If there is one ally you can count on to fight to the death and pull off the impossible win, it is askthepizzaguy. After all, my troops were down to almost none by the time the battle was finished... at any point, had I made a mistake, my troops would have mass routed and I would have watched Robin become food for the carrion birds.

The deliberate tactics of charging exposed crossbows, slaying their cavalry first, evading their heavy infantry, and chopping the heads of their generals are all quite apparent if you watch the replay. Check out the close up footage of all of these maneuvers, executed in hurried fashion to help my beleaguered ally.

    Pizza guy's finest hour.

Congrats, Sir Robin, Mordred, and Joshua for demonstrating strength and bravery until the last man falls. No inch of ground was given easily by these men.

    Askthepizzaguy- Timurid cavalry division
Sir Robin- French armoured infantry division
Mordred- Sicilian infantry, cavalry, and crossbows
Joshua- the Kaiser's finest troops (with illegal gunpowder)

Battle results: Victory Askthepizzaguy/Sir Robin, with over 80% casualties
Loss Mordred/Joshua with over 90% casualties

A bloody battle for all to enjoy...

Our first one? The one where your general dies and your troops have like infinite morale? lol

Sure, post it. I am still confused by that match. It was a classic zipper that completely backfired when there wasn't any routing.

    Not exactly my finest hour.

You had me for sure, especially when I accidentally hit enter and couldn't organise my forces it was a mess lol!

You let yourself get surrounded though hehehehe.

Ok I will post it when I work out the hosting service thing for the file.
(I'll edit this same post and stick it here later)

    Battle of Divine Intervention

Damn fine battle in any case. Best way to start online too with a game with a very good player as yourself. But why were we always on different teams? lol I think you took offense at the divine intervention in the first battle? :P

Soo.. strapping thine armour on and readying thy knights for another foray? muahahah Err after I have some coffee?

Hey maybe we should post some of our discussion regarding tactics from chat etc?

I'm sure a few would love to read that!

Here's a replay I'm fond of. I usually am an infantry fan, but here's me crushing my friend with a French cavalry army. He's epically bad.

If you can get this to work, feedback would be great, and I shall upload further replays as I create them. I just tested it, and the game version should be current.

Thou hast dared to mock me, and to question the power of Melkor, master of the fates of Arda. Therefore with my eyes thou shalt see, and with my ears thou shalt hear; and never shall thou move from this place until all is fulfilled unto its bitter end". -Tolkien
