You used to be able to just change the shortcut, but this doesn't work with EB1.0. The technique below does work (many many thanks juba1 !!)
here a easy way to play EB on BI (from LestaT)
Step One
1. Open Rome - Total War folder
2. Open EB folder
3. Open world/map/campaign folder
4. Rename imperial_campaign into barbarian_invasion
5. Open descr_strat.txt inside the barbarian_invasion folder
6. Find campaign imperial_campaign and change it to campaign barbarian_invasion
7. Save the file and exit the folder/s
Step Two
1. Open text folder
2. Copy and rename imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt into barbarian_invasion_regions_and_settlement_names.tx t
3. Save file
4. Open campaign_descriptions.txt
5. In the notepad (or any text editor) click;
a- edit
b- replace..
c- in Find what: box type IMPERIAL_CAMPAIGN_
d- in Replace with: box type BARBARIAN_INVASION_
6. Save and exit
Step Three
1. On the desktop, right-click on the EB shortcut
2. Left-click properties
3. In the target line, replace RomeTW.exe with RomeTW-BI.exe
* do not replace the whole-line, just the stated words above only.
4. Click apply and exit the box
5. Run the game....
Note: Just to add, this assume that prior to installing EB, you already have RTW and BI installed and patched to v1.6
Or you can just:
1) Install RTW
2) Install BI
3) Apply the BI 1.6 patch
4) Install EB 1.0
5) Apply Ferromancer's excellent patch, found here
Done! Works great for me!
Yeah same here, remember to make sure you only install the main parts though, I would imagine the shieldwall stuff etc would wreck your EDU.Originally Posted by Intrepid Adventurer

You MUST leave 'enable shieldwall' unchecked during step 5 or you will CTD, as it alters the EDU with one based on 0.81Originally Posted by Intrepid Adventurer

lol, you might be right. I assumed he updated his first post for EB 1.0. In that case, DO uncheck! Please excuse me! ;)Originally Posted by Admetos

what difference does playin EB on BI make? uber noob here, and im really curious as ive heard about this before. cheers
why cant i get this patch to work? ive followed the instructions and when i click the new shortcut it creates EB loads but when i click new campain it wont start, its seems it cant find the campaign files!
The AI is more likely to mount naval invasions, and you get access to special abilities like shield wall and schiltrom if you make the nessecary entries in the edu.Originally Posted by Long lost Caesar

I just find the AI a bit more intelligent. Although last night, before switching to BI, when I went to take Crete (I'm playing Mak.) I did see a rather large KH army had already landed there, which made sacking Rhodes that much easier two turns later. Tip-of-the-hat and thanks for all your help!

The EB team have never offered any official support for running under BI, it just happens to work.
So yes it is compatible but the team didn't plan it that way, and they probably won't help if it does all go tits up :)
Cheers
I think you may have mis-understood me overweightninja. What I meant was why dosent't it say in the BI patch thread it's compatible with 1.0 if it ha been updated. I think you though I meant why dosen't it say in the 1.0 thread it's compatible with BI.![]()

The game runs fine if you just change the shortcut, but you can't start a new campaign.
As to the naval invasions thing, I was playing a KH game with the 1.5 exe and was getting a little bored. Switched to the 1.6 exe and within a year Epeiros had re-invaded Taras, AS had landed a small force on Rhodos, and the Makedonians (operating from their position in exile on Mytilene) had launched a force to retake Pella. A fairly dramatic demonstration.
...et Boston delenda est.
Go to the folder \EB\Data\world\maps\campaign, make a copy of the "imperial_campaign" folder and rename it into "barbarian_invasion". The "descr_strat.txt" file there also has a commented-out line at the start which reads "options bi" - delete the ";" from before it. Dunno if it matters much really, but doing so didn't seem to hurt either. (Also, replace the "campaign imperial_campaign" line with "campaign barbarian_invasion" like Ravenfeeder said earlier.)
Also, in the folder \EB\Data\text make a copy of the file "imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt" and rename it "barbarian_invasion_regions_and_settlement_names.txt". In the same folder, back up the file "campaign_descriptions.txt"; then open it and do a global replace of "IMPERIAL_CAMPAIGN_" with "BARBARIAN_INVASION_".
Oh, and delete "map.rwm" in the \EB\Data\world\maps\base folder.
Worked for me, new campaigns and whatnot and all.

ah right i thought u only had to install the patch then run the game. il try what u said tonight when i get home
Sorry I did misunderstand you.Originally Posted by Admetos
Personally I couldn't be bothered with any file switching so I used the patch, and I can say it does work absolutely fine providing you only install the main option, and not that addon that adds shieldwall and stuff, as that will destroy your export_descr_unit.txt file (hence, campaign doesn't work).
Cheers
Please can someone tell me, why to change something in the campaign_descriptions.txt ?
I created the new barbarian_invasion folder in the "campaign" folder.
I created the new barbarian_invasion file in the "text" folder
and have edited the shortcut.
EB+BI seems to work perfect; even the original EB1.0 campaign descriptions are displayed correctly in the main menu.
when i change the campaign_descriptions.txt as described above, the campaign descriptions in the main menu disappear. (makes no sense to me)
What have i missed?
Forget this post. i found the problem. my fault![]()

Thank God it's this error and not that one.
Perhaps you would have a greater chance of getting help if you said what the error actually is.

I think what Bovi is saying is that screen captures are cool when they work, but typing the text of the error message into your post is a more reliable means of communicating. KISS and all that.

Ok, tried out EB on BI for the first time and I must say![]()
Rome's not the cakewalk when you can't rely on Italy / Sicily / Islands not being invaded once taken. I'm actually having to build a navy![]()
Good stuff - highly recommend it. No CTDs beyond the occasional end of battle one but that has happened once every 100 or 200 fights since at least RTR if not all the way back to vanilla. (looks like something in post battle processing but since the battles always run clean the second time around - /shrug not really worth reporting.)

Now that you can see the error, any advice?![]()
H.
You can't use Watchman's mod with EB 1.0. That's where this error has popped up before, at least. You could try to download a map.rwm file too, some people have got that to work.

I already have EB 1.0 installed BEFORE applying the BI 1.6 patch....will this affect my game if I apply the BI 1.6 Patch AFTER EB 1.0 is installed and THEN using Ferromancer's patch?
Yes, definitely.

I have patched it to 1.6 and installed Ferromancers patch as well and it seems to be running fine without having to uninstall EB. HmmOriginally Posted by bovi
Okay, then I don't know what I'm talking about. I haven't tried Ferromancer's patch, but I thought you installed the 1.6 patch last.
