    Default Post Empires!

Hi everyone, since I love to read threads like this one I just thought that I should start one here to, now especially since 1.0 is out, another thread like this one might lie around but I thought it best to start a new one. I myself started playing with Saka (H/H)mainly because it seemed like a hard faction to try out in this new version, and that I like the steppes as long as I can avoid fighting the rebels there. My first move was to gather the troops I had and head south, this to minimize losses for my horse archers when I expand. The target was Bactria from the start, they have a good mining income, something which I hoped to exploit in order to recover from my horrible deficit. So far none has managed to repell my nomad armies and the Selucids are next in line to be attacked, now when Bactria is gone from this world, even though the map says otherwise. I'm also planning to head east now to get more gold mines. Here's a pic I haven't gone very far yet but my post is also to start up the thread, I would like to see some real progress here to from 1.0, enjoy!

Best to whack these in the AAR section, in future methinks. However looks pretty snazzy nonetheless.

    Talking Re: Post Empires!

Good day to all again, well, since I might as well make this thread about my own Saka campaign I ought to bring an update. Things are progressing, Bactria is finished as you could tell from the first pic but now I've gone further south and taken over selucid settlements. It didn't take long though for those parthians to harass my borders and marsch on my own villages in the north so I made the important choice of attacking first rather than hoping to fight their big stacks head on in conflict. I assembled what I could from my horse archer armies and went straight for their capital and that other city of theirs. It worked out nicely and I now feel pretty secure on the steppes. The selucids are faced with rebelling provinces in the east thanks to my spy and doesn't seem to eager to take away armies from their war with egypt, the debt too has shrunk and I now hope to stabilize and get the rich mining cities in the area now known as pakistan. That's the update folks, enjoy!

how are you gaining such huge swathes of land so quickly and actually be making money? When I play a steppe faction I can usually manage to take 1-2 towns, but then I'm strapped for troops and cash. your empire is justplain impressive, nice job!

I did start by losing ALOT of money, clearly as can be seen by my first pic, but when I managed to conquer 5-6 settlements I began to see a surplus. Now, for another small but none the less important update. I have managed to gain a good income and production is well under way. A small amount of turns have simply gone to erasing the debt since my army was sort of spent after I took Parthia. Btw, the army you can recruit during you first turn was enough to crush Bactria and Parthia, so there has not been any new troops for me to get since then, until now that is:) The whole eastern Selucid Empire is to be taken soon, and I am in the process of creating two strong cavalry stacks, one to head east into the indus valley and the other one to the west and to Selucia. The reform for Saka has appeared but I'm not sure as to how I should get that greek reform or whatever it was. Now here's a pic, until next time.

Even though the interest seems a bit distant I will still update on my campaign. I have gone further southwest and engaged the selucids. The attack force consisted of two armies about half full with horse archers, one made up from raw recuits mainly, traveling from the north east from the Saka homeland. This army took a detour conquering kophen prior to invading the selucids from the south east. This might seem like a pretty unnecessary route but having huge chunks of land under the boot creates a great deal of rebels so the army acted as a regional police force, clearing away bandits and alike so that public order and trade remains unaffected. The other army came from Parthia, having trained some new troops there I also stacked them with veterans. There simply hasn't been time enough for me to truly make the effort of invading india. This is something which I hope to remedy now though, by creating an easily defensible border between the caspian sea and the "Persian gulf" ^^ I can spare armies in the west for that purpose. so, that's about it, more will follow.

Another pic just because I reached an important level of empire building. This one is a bit more revealing.

Great AAR. It is a joyful day when Saka start getting the treatment they so much deserve! Absolutely great going, by the way!

Please tell me more on the "Becomin Indosaka" reforms. (Most of it is complete as you see it right now, but there is a small part yet to be done).

Units? Did you make any inf, or just pump out HAs? (Not that this is a bad thing, mind you!)

I haven't played very much as of late, mainly due to the game crashing when I took Ekbatana the first time with almost no losses, and when something like that happens you kind of lose the will to play further, but now it's been done none the less even though the price was high. My plan here is to keep Ekbatana as a distant outpost and direct the Selucid attacks on it to avoid having to erect a larger defensive barrier inland (more troops=more money lost). I have also begun to annex the bordering homeland provinces in the north, sulek was a very worthwhile undertaking since I now have yet another recruiting station. The army I got from there will now head south to India. The Yueshi horse archers are also superior to my own, perhaps not so much in pure stats, but more so in their upkeep, and that's what I have to consider atm. On the picture you can see the temple I've just captured, it's worth quite alot and I haven't yet decided on what I should do with it, it gives me no bonuses so it's worthless in that sense, but I think one allways should keep as many unique buildings standing as possible. The first one to write may choose the fate of it.

So, I've picked up the campaign where I left off the last time. I came to the conclusion that the best way for me to secure my new empire was to seize the rich provinces of Mesopotamia from the Selucids, apart from a welcome addition to my treasury it also provides me with a relatively secure border, I intend to conquer Arbela too of course. Another campaign has also been launched in the east, a great stack filled with horse archers and minor units have departed for the fertile areas by the Indus. This expedition has proven very expensive though, every city is filled with units and so far I haven't been able to take a single one, the stone walls make the enterprise even more difficult. Interestingly enough, the generals there seem to have elephants as bodyguards, so I can only hope that arrows will stop them in the end. It's only a matter of time though, even if the first army should break I have enough resources now to send out another. Stay tuned for more.

Bah! That debt is nothing! I'm at -79,991 and I'm still losing 2,000 mnai per turn (down from 8,000/turn)!

Seriously, as expensive as the Lusotannan units are (at least relative to the absolute poverty of their starting territories), I'm redefining the entire concept of "debt". Even when I do finally exhaust my army, end my early-game expansion, it'll probably take me at least 40 years just to get back into the positives.

    Cheers.

Edit: Oh, and it's only 268 B.C. I laugh at your meager abilities to lose vast amounts of money.

Edit #2: I feat I've finally bottomed out, at -83,174 mnai. After adding a fourth settlement to my empire (and the ensuing casualties that entailed), I'm now making a profit of about 44 mnai/turn. At this rate, I'll be out of debt by 2158 A.D.

P.S. Very nice, Limbs. That's some impressive blitzkrieging you've got, there.

    Default Sv: Post Empires!

Hello again. Since I don't intend to go further than Mesopotamia in conquering there wont be much to report on the western front anymore, The last thing I intend to do before I build stable garrisons is to raid the Selucid capital of Antiocheia:), this is the nearest and most developed city in the region apart from my own ones of course. I do however concern myself over what effect this will have on the eqyptians, they haven't done much so far except waging war in the southern regions of their empire which atleast if I look on the "overall" statistics is more powerful than mine. I have hopes of raiding their cities too though, and selling them back or give them to other factions. In the east India proved to be an easier prey than I had anticipated, the elephants weren't much of a problem and the first city now finds itself exterminated. Also that little area in the middle of my empire which is controlled by the rebels will also soon rightly be under Saka's boot.

After printscreening the campaign map, paste it into MS Paint and save it after bringing down the size a bit. Then upload it via imageshack.us or some other site, and place the URL of the image into a post with the image button.
