Any way to change factions mid-game?

I was wondering if there is any way to change factions mid-game. I am on turn 100-something in my Turkish campaign and it would be fun and a challenge to 'bring back' a faction that is currently teetering on the brink of destruction.

I have tried using the shell command "control FactionName", but despite it being a recognized command (no error when I input it to the console), it does absolutely nothing as far as I can see.

Is there an option to modify the savegame file maybe?

If anyone has any ideas please post. Thanks.

Logically one would assume that it is possible somehow, though I have never heard about anything similar been done before.

Can be done by using the

"control_faction" cheat

With this cheat however you will be controlling only that other faction, your faction will go to the AI

Have you tried it? It doesn't work for me. If I bring up the shell and write:

control_faction england

I just get:

Error: Command unrecognised. Type ? for help.

Is there a trick to doing it?

control_england

look at this thread (I believe its on the second page of CITADEL):

"Can 1 player control 2 factions in the Singleplayer mode?"

You will get all you need to know
