The Spy is used to snoop, pry, and spread dissent. He has many uses, both at home and abroad.

The Spy can counterspy, attempting to catch enemy spies or assassins entering a province. Spies remaining in their faction's provinces will reduce unrest, while spies in other factions' provinces will stir up trouble and increase the unrest factor. A spy can sometimes determine the intent of other factions, giving warning about attacks nearby.

A spy can be used to try a general of his faction for treachery. This can be a handy way to remove a general with bad vices. A spy can also uncover and reveal the secret vices of opposing generals, subjecting them to the penalties those vices entail.
