King of the Romans is the largest and longest-running play-by-email (PBM) offered on the .Org. Incepted in January 2007, it chronicles an M2TW Holy Roman Empire campaign through the eyes of its Electors. It is located in the Throne Room.

How it is played

Players take control of one in-game avatar, known as an Elector. In all in-game threads they are to role-play that Elector and base their opinion of events on how that Elector sees it.

Most of the game itself is controlled by the Chancellor, one player whom everyone elects every ten game turns. The Chancellor controls buildings and movement of armies, however, he does not fight every battle; only his own. Whenever a non-Chancellor avatar has a battle the Chancellor is obligated to upload the savegame using the .Org Uploader, post it for all to see, and wait for that player to fight his battle.

Once all avatars have fought their battles for a specific turn, the Chancellor resumes control of the savegame and continues playing.
