    Default Relaxation/Chillout music

For those days when work was a or after a fight/argument, what kind of music do you like listening to for such occasions when you need the blood pressure set down a notch?

I've grown to like much of the music by Medwyn Goodall.

    Examples-

    Full Moon Magic
    Celestial Peace
    Palace of Dreams

A few other youtube favs of mine, not by Goodall:
    Tamally Maak
    Chirapak

I love Tchaikovsky. Something about the very melancholic nature of the pieces really cools me down. Oh except the Nutcracker, that really annoys me (my little sister does ballet, needless to say I've grown rather bored of it). I also have a CD with yo-yo ma accompanied by the Netherlands string orchestra that i enjoy.

I really liked the Acid Jazz (or "triphop," if you will) movement of the nineties, still some of the best chilling music there is. Examples:

    Tricky—Cross to Bear
    Tricky—Overcome
    Morcheeba
    Massive Attack—Paradise Circus
    Massive Attack—Angel
    Portishead

I also find Morphine (the band, you fools!) very relaxing.

    Morphine—In Spite of Me
    Morphine—Buena
    Morphine—The Night

And of course there's a ton of traditional American music that I find mellow and centering. Especially those old Louvin Brothers songs ...

    Cash on the Barrelhead
    King of the Road
    Bury Me Beneath the Willow
    Green Pastures

Important question: What chills you the most while driving?

While im driving i love to listen to music with a strong beat. right now i really like nirvana, morphine (buena anyone), and this japanese band my friend told me about, Wakarimasen (which translates as i dont understand).

If you can tell its not really about chilling me out more about putting me in a rhythm. i dont like to be too mellow while i am driving cause i find i make mistakes.

One of my unsung heroes for this is Patrick O'Hearn. Emerging as a bassist for Frank Zappa, he went on to play with Missing Persons in the early 80s, and then went solo to produce his own digital "new age" music.

His early work is quite different from his more recent work, but an underlying style is prevalent throughout. If you try something and don't care for it, try another. I find it all low-key and very "relaxing." Excellent daydreaming music.

Some of you might recall his soundtrack for the movie White Sands.

Here's a sampler, in order of release date. I was unable to find tracks from his definitive first two albums:

Homeward Bound, Rivers Gonna Rise, 1988

    Sacred Heart, Indigo, 1991

    Two Continents, Trust, 1995

So Flows the Current, Title Track, 2001

Night Becomes Her, Beautiful World, 2003

Best thing for me to chill out is anything that I know most of the words to, so mainly pub rock, and mostly from the late 70's, 80's and early 90's. Bands like "Men At Work", "Hoodoo Guru's", "Angels", "Rose Tattoo", "Screaming Jets" and of course "AC/DC"
There are also some new bands I listen to "Wolfmother", "Jet", "Airbourne" and "AC/DC" is still around.

The best out of all those are "AC/DC" and "Airbourne"

    My best driving songs are
"It's a long way to the top" - The best rock song in existence
    "Highway To Hell"
    "Rock n Roll Singer"
    "TNT" all by AC/DC
I don't know how they can do it. How can Angus jump around like that for hours and how can they scream like that for hours? Bloody hell I wish I could see them live.
We Can't Be Beaten by Rose Tattoo
    Be Good Johnny and
Land Down Under by Men At Work
Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet
Joker And The Thief by Wolfmother
No list of best driving songs would be complete without
Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf
But my personal favourite driving song is
What's My Scene by the Hoodoo Gurus I know all the words to it and it is a song that just begs to sung. Whenever I hear it, no matter where I am I just start belting it out.

i agree wholeheartedly with your choices. ac/dc is a personal favorite in terms of R&R.

Um, no, a list of driving music could be very, very complete without that song. Once I'm Emperor of the World, I will immediately issue some music-related decrees: No film or TV show may use "All Along the Watchtower" for the next fifty years, anyone who plays "Born to Be Wild" while driving will be sent to a labor camp, and people who shout "Play 'Free Bird'!" at concerts will be executed without a trial.

Well I will be safe in your new world since I've never heard of "All Along The Watchtower" or "Free Bird" and I lost my copy of "Born To Be Wild" about a year ago. What's wrong with born to be wild though?
My goal in life is get a 65 mustang and drive around playing "Mustang Sally" Which incidentally is another good driving song.

Another good driving song is Runnin Wild by Airbourne.

A chillout/driving song conversation without Ride On?

My taste towards music for unwinding is on the fast, loud, and heavy side, for me hectic is better than dulling the senses.

Maybe it's a result of a different perspective, but Steppenwolf -- especially "Born to be Wild"- is the ultimate driving music for me -- I guess because I grew up with everyone blasting pop rap out of their cars.

And yelling at a crappy alt-rock band to "PLAY 'FREE BIRD!'" is really, really fun. You should try it.

Finally! I can't believe that Floyd wasn't in the OP -- there's nothing more relaxing than a night alone with a six-pack and "Dark Side of the Moon" or "Atom Heart Mother."

    Just a few personal favorites:
    If, Summer '68, Fat Old Sun, and Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast (part 1)(part 2) from "Atom Heart Mother" (my favorite Pink Floyd Album);

    Time, and The Great Gig in the Sky, from "Dark Side";

The Grand Vizier's Garden Party, from "Ummagumma."

Not really a fan of the post-Dark Side stuff.

If I'm at home, any combination of Bach, Beethoven, and/or Handel are my first choices. Tony Bennett, Thelonius Monk, and most Jimmy Hendrix tunes (including "All Along the Watchtower -- sorry Lemur!) are good second choices, in addition to being good driving music. Also, for reasons I can't begin to comprehend, U2 tends to chill me out pretty good as well.

Chopin, Satie, or just about everything with saxophone. I love the saxophone, sooooooo sexy. Some dutch chansons when I need a fix. One of my favorites, and no I am not having a midlife crisis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugZUtCVkIaU

I find the first half of The way of life from Last Samurai surprisingly relaxing.

Koto and Japanese flute are also very nice.
