    Default Makedon reform help!

    Hello all!

Long time lurker, first time poster here.
I've had a million questions about this game in the past, and I've usually found most answers once I started reading up in this forum, but I'm kind of stuck now.

I'm in the middle of a very promising Makedon campaign, intent on getting my first ever reform in EB after finding out about the EB script.
Only problem is Rome couldn't keep its filthy paws off my property so I had to set them straight. They were relentless in their self-destruction however, and were eventually relegated to a single province in the cisalpine region.

This compromised my intention of getting the Makedon reform which requires that the Romaioi build a huge city in central Italy, so I tried giving them the first huge city I built there: Capua, just to trigger the reform.

The reforms aren't taking place though. Are they supposed to actually build the huge city themselves?
Does the huge city have to be Rome? (FAQ says central Italy)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Oh and my hat's off to whomever sired this masterpiece, it makes the original game look like tic-tac-toe.

Just give them a huge city in Italy, wait for one turn and it should do the job.

Welcome to the forums =] Since you like killing Rhomaioi so much, join the Romaioktonoi! =]

I've waited a couple of turns, to no avail

I forgot to mention, for some reason the 1.2 patch didn't take, and I accidentally started the campaign in 1.1.
Although I don't think this would make a difference.

I'll just finish this campaign in 1.1, no biggie.

The reform requirements are the same in 1.1 as in 1.2 right?

How does one see that the reform arrived?'

My guess is the advisor will announce the deed.

Also new barracks will become available for training the new-fangled troops.

    Why won't it happen!

Just to clear up any confusion: this campaign was started in 1.1.

I never had 1.2 on my brand new desktop build, I just thought I did

The Romans need to build the huge city by themselves IIRC, so giving them money and adding population to some Italian holdings should speed that up.

    Yes.

No, the Macedonian reform is in fact tied to the old Marian reform of the vanilla game. You'll get an announcement about the March of Time, and the new troops will be available, but there will be no advisor message and you don't need to construct new barracks.

The Romans need to have Rome + one of these as a Huge city Capua, Arretium, Arpi, Ariminum to trigger the reforms.

They don't need to have upgraded the city themselves either so you can build one up and give it to them to trigger the reforms, I used to think they had to build it too bit I tested this when someone else mentioned it and they turned out to be right.

So it appears! Apparently the reforms did take place, huzza!

I was pretty convinced that at least some new barracks would be available for construction, but I guess only the "special" reforms get those.

I also did not get any message saying "March of Time" or anything, only difference (so far) is one additional available unit, which I apparently missed.

Thanks a bundle for the help all!

What year are you in the game when the reform occurs? Are y'all saying that if the huge city requirements are met, then reforms occur, with or without March of Time? or do you need all of that?

The reform is part of the march of time event which also gives some other factions extra units or new bodyguards.
The march of time event is triggered by the huge city thing although sometimes the game doesn't inform you that it has happened (i've missed it happening quite a few times in my games).

Is ot possible to see - in a kind of a log file or something - if the March of Time or a reform took place? I suppose I have just clicked the message away one day in my campaign.

Sometimes the March of Time message doesn't pop up.
I noticed because I was playing the romans... (XGM 5.7 by the way)

I must say that i saw the message only a handfull of times, while i got the reforms at least 100 times... (more or less).

So the message usually doesn't appear. I forgot even how it looked like, but i got it just yesterday with my roman campaign.

Also a thread a few months ago about the subject had the least of all the new units, so try do a forum search if you are interested

I'm not sure about any log file but you can check one of the affected factions to see if it has happened.
Pahlava, Saka, Armenia, Pontus and Baktria all get new bodyguard units, KH and Makedonia get new Phalangite units and Rome gets two new naval units. If your not playing as one of those you can always use a spy to find out.

Seems kinda that a reform depends and what another faction does...

I'm really starting to fancy you. You're always so humble and polite
Moreover, I advise that Syracusans must be added to EB (insp. by Cato the Elder )

Is looking forward to the 2090's, when EB 20.0 will be released - spanning the entire Eurasian continent and having no Eleutheroi - with a faction for every independent state instead. Look out for the Gedrosians, the Cretans and the kingdom of Kallatis!
