    Default Backroom Christmas Truce

    As 2010 draws to a close, and many of us revel in the various near-solstice holidays that are part of our cultures and backgrounds, I would remind you all that the Backroom will, in all probability, once again be "offline" over Christmas and perhaps for a few days to either side.

    This has been our way to honor the memory of the Christmas Truce of 1914, as well as to give the moderators a break and allow all of us a period of quiet reflection and the time to enjoy our families (and/or our new electronic games).

    Do not be alarmed, gentle and genteel patrons of the Backroom. Our usual bombast and bluster will resume in short order.

    The specific timing and duration of this truce will be up to our noble administrators    .

    In the interim, and just in case the truce begins soon, I would like to take the opportunity to wish all of you and your friends and families a:

    Merry Christmas, Blessed Solstice, Festive Pancha Ganapati, Happy Islamic New Year (already in progress; Ashura just past), Happy Channukkah (now finished, Tu B'Shevat next month), A peaceful celebration of Wang-Mu, a joyous Tohji Taisai (and Oharai to follow), or whichever/whatever may apply to you.
