    Modding News Roundup

    Sun Stoked!
The summer holidays have been kind to the Rome Total War modding community as dozens of tireless modders have foresworn the delights of sun and sand and stayed labouring before their monitors to bring you this latest deluge of mods. Not only has this last month seen the release of Napoleonic Total War 2 (more on that below) but also the first releases for major modification projects Arthurian Total War set in the dark days of post-Roman Britain and a custom battlepack for Crusader Total War allowing you to command the armies of factions of that bloody period.

Also released, a battle formations mod from Sinuhet which promises to set a new standard for your single player battle clashes and the latest additions to the Extended Greek Mod, Rome Total Gameplay and Europa Barbarorum.

Vive L'Empereur! - Napoleonic Total War 2 released
The original Napoleonic Total War (for Medieval Total War) was one of the community's favourite total conversions. Now, once more, the Lordz modding team take us back to the great wars of Imperial France in their Rome Total War mod - Napoleonic Total War 2!

In development since Rome Total War's very release, this mod includes the work of some of the top talent of the modding scene and it has consistently blown us away with each and every screenshot. This, their first download, includes a detailed historical battle: the Battle of Borodino where Napoleon bested the might of Tsarist Russia. More importantly though, it includes everything you need to start playing Napoleonic Total War 2 online so you can test your mettle against the best of NTW2 fan community - including the developers themselves.

Not content with this, the Lordz are working away on the battle for Waterloo pack which will add British and Prussian forces to online play - and a whisper in the wind tells me a new version of the classic Napoleonic Total War 1 (for Viking Invasion) may also be on the cards.

So, grab that musket and get online!

    Medieval 2 Total War modding
As well as enjoying these recent releases, here at the .org we're also deeply involved in investigating ideas for more ways to support the modding community once Medieval 2 Total War is finally in our keyboard-worn fingers. Some innovations have already been rolled out to be tested, but more are still to come. Any thoughts, ideas or comments on what you would like to see for the M2TW modding forums, either PM Epistolary Richard or start a new thread in the forum.

A small thank you to a helpful modder
Makanyane only joined the .org this year, and since then has been very helpful to new modders who want to learn, and experience modders who want to discuss. So thank you Makanyane

    Mod Recruitment

Modding in a team can be an awesome, exciting experience allowing its members to develop a mod far greater than the sum of those it could individually.

The brightest, most innovative mods today are being produced by teams of modders - each working and developing in their own specialities – even where a mod is particular brainchild of a solo modder, they will often want help in specific areas or through lack of time. Teams can be great places to learn skills from the masters of the field, get to know new people and make those vital contacts with modders who you can then interest in your own modding ideas.

If you're keen to work with any mod team just contact their leader and see if you can help out.

    Hegemonia City States

Hegemonia City States is a complete mod of RTW based on BI 1.6. The mod is dedicated to Hellenic history and the wars of the Hellenic regions from late 6th century BC up to the Peloponnesian wars. You may well have seen one of more than a dozen previews that they've posted here on the Mod Discussion forum.

After months in development they reported that they are reaching the final stages before release, however they still need help - particular from any experienced scripters or anyone who might be interested in making creative unit descriptions. PM ozz or post in their forums. You can find out more about Hegemonia City States on their website and forum.

    **********Are you a modeller?*********

There is a huge shortage of modellers within the community and virtually every mod team desperately needs more (or even one!) as modelling is required to make any significant changes to units within the game. If you are a competent modeller you would be welcome in pretty much any project in which you had an interest, and you would be able to make sure that any personal project of your own could be completed and fail because of this lack.

The community strongly encourages everyone able to take an interest in modelling and you'll find several guides available to help on the Scriptorium.

The only programme currently able to create models for RTW is 3DSmax, however it is $$$ :(. A free 30 day download is available - however that's not nearly enough time to get useful results. You can extend the length of your trial by uninstalling it when not in use. Also, there are means by which models can be converted from the now-unavailable Gmax into 3DSMax, so if one team member has 3DSmax he can convert models from several different team members.

Thanks to ER for putting WoT in there (I'm not sure it deserves to be), and I'd like to add my personal thanks to Makanyane

I'm going to take the liberty of adding a rating to this thread. I honestly think these roundups are the best way to keep on top of the latest in the modding community, and a highly recommended read.

Many thanks to ER for making them!

Thank you for mentioning Hegemonia's plea for new modders in this month's roundup. Unit descriptions are covered, but we are still in need of members that can help out with basic scripts for the code to speed things up a bit. Keep up the good work ER...
