What i do not understand is why Americans call the Canadians war dodgers as far as i can remember the canadians turned up to all the important wars before the USA.

I have to second the question, though: I wasn't aware we Americans thought of Canadians as war dodgers.I seem to recall they deployed significant numbers of troops to fight in both World Wars, and even sent a contingent of soldiers to Afghanistan in 2002.
In fact, the only major wars I'm aware of that Canada has avoided (from the last century or so) was Vietnam and Iraqi Freedom.

Those were draft dodgers. But after Paul Martin sent all our combat troops to Afghanistan and told GW that were can't and won't go to Iraq II US rightwing mouth pieces started to call us cowards and war dodgers. Pat Buchannon called us Soviet Cannukistan.
