Greetings Europa Barbarorum fans.

Again an update on EB, voted the "Favourite RTW mod". The changes in this version may be fewer and less extensive than what you have become accustomed to when there is a release of EB, but we still believe there will be something new that everyone will enjoy.

Probably, there won't be many new features in future versions of EB1. We will continue making voice mods, which will be used in both EB1 and EB2, and fixing bugs as they get reported. But most of our efforts will now go to getting EB2 to a playable state. We have vacuumed the mod communities for great artists to take advantage of the options M2TW offers us, so you can expect fantastic improvements there!

Instructions on downloading and installing as well as Download links will follow and further down is a list of the major additions and changes to Europa Barbarorum. Note that you may have to download a video codec (http://www.codec-download.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=51) to see the EB intro movies.

Many people outside EB deserve a big "Thank You!" for helping us out, particularly the beta testers who have been a great help in spotting and killing bugs. Our beta testers for this round have been Hax, Konny, Mcantu, MiniMe, Obelics, Sassem, Stone and Blood, Taliferno and Wolfman25. Also they have come up with suggestions and done some work for us, particularly Sassem's work on the resources and disasters requires a commendation.

Some of the new units (Orditon, Nuraghi and Liby-Phoenician) would not have been made without the help of Halie Satanus. Many apologies for forgetting about you at first.

As for new music, we would like to thank Musica Romana (http://www.musica-romana.de/) for graciously allowing us to use some of their work, and The Persian Cataphract for creating some new pieces for us that we will explain in detail soon! We would also like to again thank our soundtrack composers, Morgan Casey (http://morgancasey.com) and Nick Wylie (http://nickwylie.com), for their great work which serves as the musical foundation for the entire mod, and Prehistoric Music Ireland (http://prehistoricmusic.com) for aiding us with music for our "barbarian" culture group.

We strongly recommend people to use BitTorrent or ED2K to download EB to conserve bandwidth, but also as torrent provides better transfer speeds once a couple of people have downloaded part of it. Please consider seeding EB after downloading unless you pay per amount of traffic.

Installation

First make sure you have a clean RTW 1.5 installation on your computer. This is to make absolutely certain old files or directories won't cause problems for the EB installation.

Double-click the EB installer file and follow the instructions on screen.
The installation process gives you the option to install a number of supporting tools and the "modesty patch", which adds loincloths to the naked units. The modesty patch is NOT recommended, however, and is provided purely as a service to those who must appease parents, and for anyone who is uncomfortable with pixelated genitalia.
WARNING: This will overwrite all naked warrior units in your build!!

Seriously guys, I don't get this complaining about timing. Noone is forcing you to abandon your 1.0 campaign. Just make a new copy of RTW 1.5 and install EB 1.1 into that, and you have separate installations of both versions.

The Casse invasion is a scripted invasion of Belgium when the AI is Casse and has taken all of Britain and Ireland. We hope it will make the AI Casse more interesting in spite of the AI's aversion to naval invasions.

Casse only attacked the British rebels once in my Lusotana campaign. Also, the rebels aren't nearly as aggressive as some people say they are, they will not siege towns that are 1 cell away.

The Getai are one of the largest factions in my game. I think it's hard to instigate the factions to aggression. Sometimes the AI just sucks.

And I'm interested in hearing exactly what the Casse invasion is. It sounds good, because the Casse are chilling on a united British Isles with 3 and a half full stacks but can't get across to wreck the Sweboz.

that varies from campaign to campaign, in my current, (or i guess now my ex :laugh4: ) campaign as the pahlava by 260 getai has taken 3 cities, yes thats right, 3 cities by 260, and in another one luso has has all of iberia and are kicking averni butt in gaul by 220...so im not sure if it has anything to do with the AI, it&#180;s has more to do with chance then anything, i guess... though i could very well be wrong. the nomads are the only ones who never seems to have a fighting chance in my campaign, but it looks like that will change!:2thumbsup:
my only worry is, should i start a new pahlava campaign or try that karthadastim campaign i had sworn off &#180;till 1.1? hmmm

dont pay so much attention to those. i for instance was waiting for 1.1 since November (thought it'd come on Christmas and quit playing, uninstalling 1.0 all together) with clean RTW copy sitting on HD. and now its finally here!

I´m using BI right now, and have used 1.5, never noticed any difference with expansion, that i can be sure of is because of the .exe, except some naval invasions with BI.

Well they are the Luso they can't be expected to take over spain in every game, but given a few decades they can do some awsome stuff. Check out the AI Expansion thread. I had one game with EB 1.0 RTW.exe where they took over all of Iberia, half of splain, and was in the process of pushing Rome out of the alps and containing it to italy. But as cool as it was I wouldn't want that in my game everytime that would just be to strange.

Seriously guys, I don't get this complaining about timing. Noone is forcing you to abandon your 1.0 campaign. Just make a new copy of RTW 1.5 and install EB 1.1 into that, and you have separate installations of both versions.

It's not a weird script: it's a file containing instructions & checksums for your torrent client software to interpret. So you should obviously not open this file with any ordinary text editor or some such thing: you need to use special client software or a browser which supports the bittorrent protocol.

People, new versions are very rarely compatible with older ones. If anything you should look out for a note specifically saying it is, otherwise assume it's not.

Which is why I'm working on my own mini-mod to start the game in 250BC, rather than 272BC.

I'm not in a hurry to start 1.1, I'll wait for the early bugs/hotfixes and whatever else to come out before jumping in. In a week or two things should have settled down.

Torrent *is* a real download option. It always starts out with horrendous estimations which quickly improve as you get more and more pieces.

If you tried downloading this from a VERY fast server you might get a sustained 150kb/s download speed ~5000 secs or close to 1 and half hour.

However. If you use torrent (and this is no joke) you may easily get up to 600kb/s downloading speed whenever a seed is close by.

Finally torrent downloads in chunks, so any estimate is rough to say the least.

I achieve 400kb/s or almost regularly on my 4Mbit line. Most of the time speeds cluster around 300kb/s. This torrent file (EB1.1) I got at around 140kb/s, which is relatively low. Try uploading more when you're downloading. If you limit uploads it won't allow you to download at a good speed.

Barring that, you are probably limited/walled thru the ISP, if you yourself haven't firewalled your PC.

Try using the muTorrent client software. I use that and it's very good. Also check the ports and see whether they are open or not.

Being connected to no seeders and/or no leechers may mean a number of things:

1) You are behind a router and your port forwarding is not properly set up.
2) Your ISP actively blocks Torrent & similar traffic.
3) Something else is wrong with your connection (try reviewing status and/or reconnecting)
4) Your ISP actively caps Torrent & similar traffic some excruciatingly low up/download rate.
EDIT: 5) Your Firewall actively blocks your client software. This is common with built in Windows Firewalls; usually a message box should appear asking you whether or not you wish to keep blocking the software or unblock it whenever you run the blocked software. Selecting unblock might just fix it?

I live in the Netherlands where this kind of traffic blocking is relatively uncommon (only Chello does this, AFAIK), but I guess in the USA where some laws are considerably more restrictive/forcefully enforced this is different...

But the problem lies definitely in the fact that you're not connected to anyone: so your client software can't download jack at all.

Well my previous ISP used to cap downloads thru torrents, so it probably is really that. I wouldn't get anything higher than 20kb/s most of the time, so when I switched to my current ISP and found that speeds had more than multiplied by a factor of 10 and I was actually paying less I was ecstatic.

It has not gotten higher than 131 kb/s (really, how are you getting more than 600?), and nothing I do makes it go faster.

If you copy over the music files themselves and the descr_sounds_music.txt it *should* work with 1.0 savegames, but I have not done it so I can't be absolutely certain. I'd save the old files under a different name or folder just to be certain you could go back to them if there was a problem.

As for most people here, I saw this post and had mixed feelings. Its official, I have missed an entire EB update, I had .72 .73(for..a day) 7.4 the .8 series.. Then the DAY before 1.0 I lose my first CD, and on my first attempt to install to my last clean copy of RTW it bugs up on the screen and refuses to go into campaign.

Well, complete installation process can really take a couple of minutes; on my DualCore PC 2,8 GHz installation of EB 1.0 took some 10 minutes or so; EB 1.1 seems to be even larger and more complex, so it may take about 15 minutes... :)

No, it's not worth it. You'll have wasted all that time you spent getting the Romans to 220 BC. That's over 200 turns!

Finish your 1.0 campaign first, and then upgrade to 1.1 after that. And when you do, play some other faction, not the Romans.

Well it took me three attempts, but I finally got it downloaded successfully. I tried twice without using a bitorrent program, but it would only partially download and suddenly stop. The bitorrent was about five times faster downloading as well. One question, did 1.1 make any changes with formations? Does anyone think adding the DarthMod formations for EB would be worth it?

It would be interesting to see what new units the factions will recieve, and which are Eleutheroi/local units.

I did download the Codec that was suggested here somewhere but I still don't get any movies at all. Could it be because i'm running it with BI? In that case i'll just stop worrying about it. I mostly just ask in case there's some easy solution. :D

Btw, I finally survived the first 10 years of a Saka campaign! I started with them because I wanted to see the intro. It's great fun, and very strange.. this migration stuff is like a whole new game!

And you have most likely in your shortcut target line this code at the end "-nm" this means no movies will be played you can delete that if you want

is it harder or easier than 1.0?? when i was playing my vh/vh campain in 0.81 it was very hard but when i was playing 1.0 on VH/M it was easy. Im thinking about WH/H but i cant make a decision.

Some factions harder, some perhaps easier. But in any case the difference between VH battle and M battle is in EB a lot more apparent than it apparently used to be in Vanilla. So that might've made all the difference back then?

I dunno. That's the sort of problem you only face against well established, big and rich empires. However check the changelog of the annoucement to see what difference EB 1.1 to mercenaries makes.

Haven't seen the beta testers complaining about merc full stacks or sth., though.

Last I heard the merc replenishement rates were set so low that while you might indeed occasionally run into an all-merc stack (ie. the AI's "bought out" the contents of a pool or two) it's going to take a fair while before they're again available in any numbers...
