I will be moderating this game. (yikes!) And subbing for anyone who does not take their turn in the 48 hour period, unless they select a different sub, or if I am presently at war with their faction. In which case, I will ask a neutral party to sub, whose competence in this game I have witnessed personally on the battlefield. So make your passwords, substitutes, and faction selections known to the game moderator.

https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=102833

Please read this thread in full, as it should bring you up to speed on what's been said so far, and it should give you an idea of how this faction selection thing goes.

Note to all players:

I will be watching certain factions like a hawk until turn 2 is over, because I need to axe the AI spawn stacks. No hard feelings to your dead family members.

ERE and Turks get Ai spawn right off the bat, and maybe others do as well. If you notice your army has suddenly doubled in size, don't be a bad sport, let me know so I can axe them.

A shame that Antioch is up there, as I'd prefer to be them. But from the list I'll put my vote in for the ERE.

Askthepizzaguy
05-06-2008, 01:26
We have two main claimants to the ERE, so I will ask for a volunteer to pick a different faction. If not, you can compete for it. Declare how you wish to proceed, Frodge and Ignoramus.

Tristan de Castelreng, I'll need a main selection... it wasn't clear to me which was your main selection. Was it the Seljuks or the Rajputs or the Sindh? I am guessing Seljuks but I need a confirmation.

Rossahh, I'll need a selection from you as well whenever you get a moment. I'm still contemplating whether or not I want to challenge someone for their main selection. I am leaning Seljuks... but Tristan is eyeing them.

ATPG, I know never told you I wanted to join, but I've decided spontaneously that I'd like to play in another hotseat. So, if you'll have me, I'll be requesting the Kypchaks. Secondary choice would be Armenia.

Rushing isn't what I've done in any of my other hotseats. I assure you it's suicide. Anyone who thinks they can rush in these things is inviting the world to rise as one and slay them.

You assume I can behave in MP like I do in SP... that's just not possible with so many human players. In my turtle versus hare debate, I even said so. Rushing is instant death in a game with more than one other human player, assuming they are anywhere near each other.

My part of the world has been asleep, and I have been enjoying the wonders of university so I'm a bit late to the party. Both of my first preferences (Abassids and Ayyubids) seem to be taken. I would say Armenia (oh surely not) would be next, but that would be a bit weird so unless Tristan doesn't want the Rajputs, I'll take them, but if he does, put me in for Armenia.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

Hey everyone, nothing is "taken" yet. Claim whichever faction you want. This round is for declaring your intentions to pick a certain faction. Getting that faction requires that there are no other claimants, or that the other claimants backed off, or that you've won that faction fair and square with a rock, scissors, paper contest.

So late comers, don't be discouraged from the "remaining" selections. Pick what you want.

The Flax only suddenly decided to join, and he chose the Kypchaks even though Elite Ferret did too. And as for me, I may yet decide to challenge someone for their faction.

I'm giving everyone a chance to change their mind and make sure they really want the faction they've claimed. OK? Choose carefully.

Here's a tenative list of the selections made so far by all, so review it and choose the faction you want, not what factions are "left".

Just so everyone knows:

I am already subbing for Elite Ferret until he can rejoin the game. He's a w'ittle busy with exams and stuff. While Tristan's away I can sub for him too. I'm gonna be a busy little bee, but I don't mind. Seeing as how they are on opposing ends of the earth, it shouldn't matter. The alternative is that you guys pick someone else for your sub.

That reminds me. Everyone should declare a substitute player or players for this game. My door is always open, but since I'm playing one faction and subbing for at least one for the moment, you may decide that you'd rather someone else play. It would be rather interesting in the IC thread to hear me argue with myself. And don't think I wouldn't do that, either.

Also, I don't expect either Tristan or EF to honour the foreign policy decisions, if any, that I make. So my default is simply trade rights with everyone that offers it, and map exchanges only if it suits the interests of the faction I am playing. If you offer something sweeter to the deal I will consider it. But I can't really commit anyone's faction to a foreign policy decision that can't be reversed easily, like war or an alliance. Or, if they message me and tell me to do something, their orders will stand.

While I don't mind subbing for multiple factions, it's not typically the policy in hotseats for someone who's in the game to do so. I know Ramses and phonicsmonkey typically get tapped to sub a lot, and I don't mind either, but if anyone has any objections, I'm addressing that now by asking everyone to select a substitute other than myself. I'm just here in case your faction doesn't move within the 48 hour period.

Extensions will be granted to those who ask beforehand if no one minds, and if there was an emergency or something and you didn't contact us, private message me and explain the situation, and we may allow you to play your turn.

However, unless you declare a sub, when your 48 hours are up, I will play your faction and keep things moving. The 48 hour deadline will otherwise be strictly enforced, perhaps more so than in other hotseats. I'm always here to sub and you have plenty of time to declare someone else to be a sub, and given the leeway of possibly allowing you to play your turn anyway, I see no reason why we should hold up the game. Since having someone sub for you and posting the save isn't an action that's irrevocable, and we could always pick up from the previous save and do it over under extenuating circumstances, I will not hesitate to "skip" your turn by having a sub play it.

Tick, tock. Everyone ok with that policy?

Hey, thats not a problem, EF. It's just a game, but a lot of the fun comes from playing which faction you want. That's why I decided on a very neutral way of selecting factions, regardless of who showed up first.

But at the same time, I did favor you because you won 3 draws and picked first... it's only Flax's insufferable :clown: persistance that won the day, and his gentlemanly demeanour that saved your faction, upon my convincing.

It's nice to know that people here are willing to be flexible for the sake of fun.

As a matter of fact, I got Jerusalem from a very kind gentleman named PrinceOfTroy, because I wanted to try a different faction that might, I dunno, survive an initial assault...

I dont know what everyone's sweating about... someone was going to control the kypchaks, might as well be elite ferret.

He's asked me to sub for him and be nice to everyone, so thats exactly what Im gonna do. Just keep your agents out of his lands, and your ships away from my ports. No need to have naval forces anywhere near kypchak lands except for invasion purposes, so any such ship sightings will be considered an act of aggression. the northern part of the black sea is Kypchak waters only, no one else is welcome.

Offers of trade and discussions about our mutual territorial borders are welcome.

Guess it's time to open the official diplomacy thread. Give me a few more days to get things up and running, ok? This is my first time moderating and I'm still getting the hang of destroying AI spawn and using the console.

I will pm everyone and make an announcement when the game opens, could be less than a week from now. Could be tomorrow. I dunno.

When one has played both sides of the same coin, one can see both sides of the same dispute.

Indeed we see why it was necessary to declare war on the Ayyubids to expand, and so forth. We understand your position a lot more now. However, that's a completely different hotseat, and I prefer to play each one as it's own seperate entity.

Some friends become enemies, some friends remain friends, some enemies becomes friends, and so on. And I will have you know that my official signature sent to the Turks read "the diseased rat, Leper King Baldwin" as a joke on myself.

I don't care who plays baldwin... when I found out he was a leper I couldn't help making fun. :laugh2:

One good thing though, is at least in Broken Crescent Baldwin has the chance to live and prosper to old age unlike his real self. I would imagine that a leper at the age of 60 or so would not have very many attractive body traits. ewwww!! :clown:

The Cha-whatever Rajputs aren't a playable faction, just one of the little AI factions. They won't last long either, one of us will be at the gates of Delhi inside 10 turns and the AI won't expand.

I have successfully learned how to destroy characters and add/remove money and slay agents.

All rules will be enforced, and between turns 1-3, I will be checking every file for spawned stacks. Sorry for the invasion of privacy, but if we want a fair game, no one can suddenly be granted 3 full stacks of troops while Armenia gets none.... Turkey, i'm lookin at you... Unfairness alert!

lol

Moderator Askthepizzaguy the Merciless at your service. The game is about to begin! TheFlax is up first for some reason (I still don't know how to manipulate turn order) and he's checking to see if he can access the console. Then he's going to send me the file and I'll try to access it with my admin account. If it fails for him, and works for me, we are in business.

Hope to begin this already exciting game soon!

Ferret
05-07-2008, 22:05
I thought only AI factions got the free stacks and Turkey only got them because they were created before they were made a human faction. I certainly never got any as the Ghorids and only heard of previously AI factions getting them.

edit: and aren't the Kypchaks supposed to get free stacks if they take over certain settlements, you wont take away them will you

Askthepizzaguy
05-07-2008, 22:08
nyope, rome was human from the start and they definitley got two stacks, as did turkey, even though they were ai at the start.

As for your second point, I dont know. That depends on how game-breaking the stacks are. If you get like 3 free stacks, which you do on turn 2 or 3 anyway which I have to delete, I might have to limit that.

That's way too much to inflict on Georgia in all fairness. However, it's a game related event, I may allow a full stack of your best troops to remain, and depending on how powerful the call for crusade event is, I'll limit that too.

But, I wont act unilaterally here. This is not just my game, this is a hotseat.

I will defer to the majority if they disagree with me.

Ferret
05-07-2008, 22:09
oh okay then, check away :beam:

The Lemongate
05-07-2008, 22:28
I'd say don't touch to game related events. Kypchaks are supposed to get 4 uber stacks once they unite the steppes. If Georgia feels threatened, Georgia can prevent the uniting of the steppes by moving immediately to prevent the Kypchaks from doing so. Or then by allying with Khwarezmians or the Seljuks or the Romans...

But lets leave in game events the way they are.

For the starting spawns though, nuke away.

Well that's my 2 cents :clown:

I'd say don't touch to game related events. Kypchaks are supposed to get 4 uber stacks once they unite the steppes. If Georgia feels threatened, Georgia can prevent the uniting of the steppes by moving immediately to prevent the Kypchaks from doing so. Or then by allying with Khwarezmians or the Seljuks or the Romans...

From the fury of the Kypchaks, oh lord deliver us! :sweatdrop: :skull:

Any of you guys want to have a vassal? I don't cost much to maintain! :laugh4: In all seriousness, I don't have any problems with the Kypchak hordes being left in. I'd likely be the one to take the full brunt of their assault if the event took place anyway, hopefully diplomacy can prevail :2thumbsup:

Askthepizzaguy
05-07-2008, 23:05
Well, let me ask you a question Monk. If you suddenly found yourself the sole ruler of a vast corner of the map empire with around 7 stacks of supreme cavalry, which cost way too much money to just leave sitting around, would you:

A) Disband everything until your budget was balanced
2) Send them to slaughter the Georgians
or d) Write a strongly worded letter to the editor about all these kids on skateboards and how a loaf of bread used to cost a nickel

Which is it? A, 2, or d? Keep in mind, this is a total war game, and you don't get bonus points at the end for being friendly and wearing pink dresses and singing kumbaya. Of course, Elite Ferret may decide to pick A, because it's soooo like him.

:clown:

Sarcasm detected. Purging systems. Refeshing viewscreen. Reticulating splines..... done.

Diplomacy can prevail, yes...

Sarcasm detected. Purging systems....

Monk
05-07-2008, 23:16
I'm gonna go with...D!

Yes, i know it's a huge risk, and it's probably going to see my demise. And the only real way that you can prevent yourself from going in the red when the event occurs is to go completely insane in your conquests.

I could go either way, truthfully. It would be an interesting game element to try to prevent/counter for those around the Black Sea if left in; if not, of course, i'm sure the Kypchaks would be difficult enough counter without their uberness. :laugh4:

Looks like my hotseat commitments are finally lessening, with one game possibly about to end and another in its final stages. All you have to do is make it more difficult for your faction to be conquered. Surely the rebels would be more of a pushover than Sindh.

Ok maybe not. They just stand there and they are still more intimidating.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

I need passwords and substitute players from everyone, now that the game has begun. The deadline is the beginning of turn 2. I need to be able to open your games to check for AI spawn next turn, so message me privately and inform me of your password. If you have a substitute player in mind for your faction in case of illness, work, life in general, or just plain old "I forgot to play my turn", please inform me of whom you would like to play for you.

By default, as explained in the rules of the game, I am your substitute. However, if I feel uncomfortable playing as your faction because of a lack of friendship between Jerusalem and your faction, or because you're at war with me or one of my allies, I will ask a neutral party to volunteer to play for you, preferably one who has no real ties with Jerusalem. Ramses might be a good example of such a neutral party, as he has long subbed for others in hotseats and I've personally witnessed his integrity.

But I'd much rather we not have to go through selecting a substitute player for you... pick at least one player in this game you feel comfortable controlling your faction when you're away and message me your list along with your password.

On that note, Ignoramus, it's been over 24 hours. Just a friendly reminder. Since your first turn is so critical, I'd very much like you to play it. I will give a little leeway here because it is turn one and there was no set date for the game to begin, but after turn one is over, the 48 hour rule will be enforced except under rare circumstances.

Thanks guys, for your attention on this matter.

take each fix seperately, do them in order, one at a time. They are very simple.

If you encounter a step involving map.rwm or something, and you cannot find it, ignore it because you haven't created that file automatically yet.

You are just making minor changes or adding files or overwriting files in your bc folder. Nothing needing an engineering degree, so dont sweat it.

Zim
05-10-2008, 01:24
At least for vanilla hotseats it's the same order the factions are shown in on the faction selection screen (for player factions, AI factions are tacked onto the end). Adding a player faction after the game starts doesn't seem to change their place in the order, though. They get stuck wherever the AI faction had ended up.

Askthepizzaguy
05-10-2008, 01:25
Its odd though, because in this game the Turks went first, and in the last, Rome went first. And Rome is before Turkey on the faction selection list.

Zim
05-10-2008, 01:36
The Turks were added in after the game started in the other game.

In the GCH2 and other hotseats the order matches election screen, but apparently not in this mod, at least. Maybe it depends on which vanilla factions were converted into the BC ones?

Its odd though, because in this game the Turks went first, and in the last, Rome went first. And Rome is before Turkey on the faction selection list.

Askthepizzaguy
05-10-2008, 01:38
Yes, that is a most logical supposition.

In multiplayer, I've tested it out, and consistently, certain factions appear to play their turns before others. Jerusalem for example, always moves before the Ayyubids, Turkey moves first, Rome moves second, etc.

Sindh in this game was AI, so how do I change that for you Zim?

Past the 48-hour limit. Sorry, PrinceOfTroy. If you upload a save in the next 24 hours, we can use that. But the game must go on!

I am not sure exactly what you would want done on your turn, but I used my best judgment. Took two provinces with the most minimal of casualties, built cheap buildings which increase public order and population, and some which allow recruitment. Moved armies towards next logical target, opened negotiations with an ambassador. Still have lots of money remaining, and recruited some few units.

Unfortunately guys, tonight as I got home from work I was given the bad news by my wife, that my beautiful darling daughter had somehow successfully killed my good computer (something about falling over.... I'm still a little too angry to find out the full story yet, but anyway whats done is done!)

I've let ATPG know who is hopefully going to sub for me until I get going again. Hopefully I can retrieve most of the stuff saved on it, as I have got about 3000 tga's from my AAR that is still a work in progress on it, plus photo's, other games, etc,etc....

Im taking the save. Thanks for your patience everyone.

This game is starting off a little slow, but its only a matter of time before rival nations run out of rebels to harass... or get greedy.

When smaller nations start to fall, the game will progress much quicker. And by the way, if your faction is eliminated early, and someone drops out, you will be able to sub for them and rejoin the game.

Hey fella's,

A quick question. I've got Kingdoms arriving in about 2 or 3 days time (AU$20 Bargain bin), so when I add this on, obviously that will update my game to version 1.4 then 1.5 (I think) after downloading the patch.

Will this affect playing this PBM? If so what steps do I have to take to keep everything above board?
I know 1.3 is just so people without kingdoms can play with/against people with Kingdoms, so in my mind, it shouldnt affect anything, right?

cassu
07-01-2008, 01:52
i have kingdoms (1.4) and it works for me. the 1.4 and 1.5 patches would only effect kingdoms not the original m2tw which will remain at 1.3

OK thats enough. I have to put my foot down. I'll sub for his majesty the Caliph since Lemon decided against choosing a sub, according to my records. Alternatively, Rossahh could probably do it since they are allied.

And from now on, when our 48 hours are up... if I dont already start stomping my foot, anyone can private message me and I'll skip or sub the turn, or contact one of their predetermined subs.

We have to keep the game moving or other players will lose interest, sorry.

BUMP

Sorry for the dp, but Rossahh, you're up with the Seljuks!

http://mizus.org/files/pbm/BC2-05-08.zip

Notes:

I avoided all conflicts of interest by cancelling or delaying all diplomacy which would have involved any concessions (even maps, which can be used to spy on opponent's troop buildup) on the part of the Abassid Caliphate.

I offered trade rights only and delayed an offer of alliance until Lemon can OK it. I took one rebel settlement with the most minimal of casualties and sacked it for maximum profit. It was not a particularly economic settlement, therefore no real long term loss to income was expected. Continued along his predetermined "green arrows" and followed suit with previous actions. Fulfilled a mission objective. Adopted one hell of a good adoptee. Did some recruiting in an area which seemed to need recruitment, and began a shisha bar.

All in all.... kind of a really good turn for the Abassids. I hope it meets with Lemon's approval.

From the ashes of computer failure rises the Phoenix to reclaim his rightful place as moderator of this game.

Sorry everyone, thanks for your patience, but I need everyone to go ahead and RE-SEND their passwords and SUBSTITUTE PLAYERS (say ATPG or Default if you want either myself or a trusted sub of my choosing to control your faction in good faith if you don't have a sub)

ALL my data was lost, including my saved games for the Blitzmaster record campaign, dammit.
That also includes your passwords.

Please go ahead and send them all to askthepizzaguy@yahoo.com

A saved email will keep track of all your passwords... so if I have another computer failure, it wont matter.

New computers dont fail anyway... do they? :laugh2:

PS The Lemongate and Prince of Troy being absent means I need them to email me their passwords anyways, and if they don't I may need to look up how to use moderator priviliges to change their passwords manually.

I'm off to buy a computer, but I still may not have net access until tonight. Hope I don't buy a LEMONgate!

Ha. Ha. Ha. (Big Fake Laugh) Hah.
