I've just stabilised a substantial kingdom in my new Baktrian campaign, which is my first ever on any version, and I can't stop grinning whenever I see the Hetairoi Kataphraktoi late bodyguard units. They actually look like demons swooping down to bring death to the Seleukid and Saka scum who stand in my way.

Well done for whoever skinned them, but it makes me want to put loads of my family members on the field just for eye candy (and because they are also pretty much the best cavalry possible), stopping them from managing my provinces as they should be doing.

How come the non-bodyguard Hellenikoi Kataphraktoi aren't as pretty? Basically this is just a pointless post to express my happiness at how Baktria's conquering of the world is brutal, but aesthetically-pleasing nevertheless.

I'm at 235 in my own Baktrian campaign. Haven't seen these chaps yet, but am really looking forward to them.

Incidentally, I got really lucky with this Baktrian campaign, AS didn't attack until around 250 or so. I had already taken Alexandria-Ariana and Propthasia from them awhile before that (after making them rebel with spies), so was surprised they didn't come after me wanting them back for so long.

Yeah. They are certainly worth waiting. I wonder if there's some artwork regarding them somewhere online.

Yeah. They should get "scares the shit out of nearby units" trait.

There are many cute units in the game but only a few look THAT EVIL.

Sweboz has some black, naked and crazy guys that made my legionaries' legs shake...

Sacred Band cavalry and infantry also have this fanatic flavour.

So do Vasci. You see them and you know there will be trouble.

Maybe you guys can think of some more?

Weird. I used images from EB.com. And I can see them. Maybe you have images blocked in your forums options or something?

Anyway, here's one more. You think Thorakitai are lame? Tell that to THAT Thorakitai:

The Ebherni Armored Shock Infantry (Dubosaverlacica) are the most evil looking in their unit card. So sweet...

Nothing compares to the Hetairoi Kataphraktoi though, they're simply untouchable. :skull:

I know, i love setting them to charge and then setting the camera to show the receiving units point of view. Man it never gets old watching them come in.

Totally awesome unit... And probably a-historical. But still fun to poke holes in Gauls with them.

Yes, I've read that. In fact, isn't it NOT recruitable in 1.1? I don't actually know, since I've never seen one in action, but their unit card looks the most malevolent in my opinion.

along with the Ordmalicas, and perhaps Eiras. (though MP custom battle still has them)

C'mon. I'm the KING of Baktria. I'm not afraid of my own troops. It's the rest of the world who should. And well. THEY ARE. :-)

The little pic doesn't adequately communicate the visual badassedness of this unit. Here's a close-up screenshot that should give you a better idea on just how scary they look:

They are worse than Immortals in 300.

Baktrian late bodyguard cavalry are a blessing upon this game.
They are the best unit in the game AND you can utilise them as much as you want because they replenish themselves. Brilliant.!
The only drawback is that when you use multiple generals in a battle, the generals which are not the leader of the force do not get the 'experience' as such.. i.e they will remain as 'green' if they participate in multiple battles as subsidairy heavy cavalry in an army...

All the general's bodyguard units replenish, and the AI generals do so faster than the player's (in addition to typically having greater max size). You also have to be careful about using them since dead general = unit disappears. Baktrians are by no means exception to this, I've had a few good generals kick the bucket when they still had plenty of guards left.
