I received a letter from a young noble seeking my sponsorship. Unfortunately, it seems the poor man died before my return letter could reach him.

I have spotted a small Turkish army between Yerevan and Tbilisi. I believe Pavlos has the necessary resources to deal with these rogues, so I have continued my eastward trek.

Methodios has been severely wounded and will recover in the city.

I leave control of my troops to Nikolaos Aristenos with provision to lend them to Vissarionas ek Lesvou if necessary to rid us once and for all of the Fatimids.

Report for 1150:

I bring you all the following news:

https://img513.imageshack.us/img513/9962/fatamiddeadki9.jpg

The former great power of the Fatamid Caliphate is down to a pale shadow of its former self. It is with regret that our now legendary commander Caeser Methodios Tagaris is severly wounded and is desperately trying to recover in the hostile environments he is in. I have been informed that the settlement has been renamed in honour of the late Annios Solomon. A noble gesture to be sure. The Last of the ruling family of the Fatamids is desperately trying to maintain control in Mecca some distance south of Medina. However there are plenty of rogue Muslim elements nearby that will need to be confronted in the years to come.

Meanwhile the Seljuks continue to harry our outlying settlements in a desperation more than anything. Tblisi, like Aleppo, is under siege from a small force. In the far East, my spies have found a settlement named Baku where the intrepid Andronikos Komnenus is approaching. There is a fairly large army hiding close to the city awaiting to ambush I wish you luck and a good battle my friend. I hope that the fact that the Seljuk Crown Prince himself is residing in Baku provides further incentive for you and your troops.

In the holy land, things continue to look precarious, The order have performed miracles keeping things under control and now approach the city of Damascus with confidence. I will be hugely impressed if they managed to take it again good luck to you. I am impressed with your courage and have tried to quell possible rebellions by affording more recruits and retraining legions where possible.

I have stalled the approach on the Moors, whilst I await some other senators who have expressed an interest joining me on the crusade of sorts. I am delighted that the Basilues' brother himself Isaakos Komnenus has shown an interest in joining me, to continue the good fight as begun by his father. Our allies Milan have declared war on the Moors.

I present you a report on further happenings in our empire in the year 1150.

Priorities:

Pavlos Chrysovergos has 4 out of the 10 PUs available. Work is now finished on the Priortised Leather Tanner in Tblisi.

The work on the City Hall has now finished and will serve as a fine memory to the late Basilues Aleksios Komnenus who priortised this.

His son, the recently crowned Basilues Ioannis Komnenus has all of his 2 of 2 PUs available. As Basilues it is my understanding that he is allowed a Priortised building or two. His announcement in the Senate for the priortising of a Stone Wall has been accepted of course and is now being built in Nicaea.

Armatos ek Naksou has 0 of his 10 PUs available. Work had begun on the Priortised Ikoners Studio in Antioch, a shining beacon of Orthodox Christianity.

Ioannis Kalematros has all 8 of his 8 PUs available.

Senator and family announcements:

Isaakios Komnenos has waved goodbye to his young productive wife and has began on the road to Thessolinika where a boat is being prepared to take him on a life changing journey.

I bring news of a young suitor for Helena Kalameteros, the daughter of Ioannis and Anna Kalameteros. I have left it open for the father (or perhaps the mother) to accept the hand of this man in marriage.

Domestikos Zigavinos Vasilakios continues to harry the pirates on the Black Sea coast, I estimate that he will have cleared the pesky rebellions in two years time.

Building:

As work is completed on the Drill Square in Sofia, work has begun on a mighty Fortress at Corinth. If the Bishop of Rome ever dares to speak out against Orthodox Christianity we shall be waiting with the best troops of our time. In Sofia work has begun on a powerful western army for Apionnas Vringas and his supporters. Our military work will be supplemented by a small espionage network emanating from the shady licensed brothels in Scopia.

The lifeblood of the empire runs through the mercantile lands of Athens and Thessaloniki, these cities will soon be connected by magnificent Highways that have been commissioned to run to and from Athens in every direction. The fine town of Bucharest, which also earns the Roman empire a huge sum of money has begun work on a Town Hall. I am pleased to see some of our armies are moving north to wipe out the rebellion just to the north of there.

I suspect if fighting ever does break out in the west in the short term, we shall be reliant on Anatolia to provide much of our resources whilst the Holy land and former Fatamid lands take a while to be assimilated. Markinopel has completed work on a Drill Square and Trebizond has upgraded its defences.

In the holy land, there has been an intriguing offer for a Master Theologians Guild opened itself up. I am sure the grandmaster and his sergeants will be pleased at the recognition of their tireless work in the area. I have left the offer open to those within the Order of St. John whether to accept.

Meanwhile the cities of Cairo and Alexandria are growing very quickly, I hope these new citizens will not be a problem to control. Both these towns are beginning to demand even more modifications to their already sizable city walls.

Misc:

A Hungarian princess has come of age.

It has become most fashionable for the courtesans of Europe to write everything down on paper.

The council of nobles have asked us to blockade Mecca.

There is a small rebel force to the north of Bucharest, there is another in between Sinop and Trebizond. My lord Zigavinos will soon eliminate the scum near Trebizond.

Having heard rumours of a large Turkish army to the south of Yerevan, I returned to Tbilisi and fought off the beseiging force. Hopefully this frees up Pavlos to fight the other invading force. A paltry 70 prisoners were taken during the battle. I released them back into the wilderness.

Report for 1152:

Rejoice, the Holy Land has been cleansed. I pass on my best wishes to the Order of St. John and one of its leading members Vartholomaios Ksiros for their successful seizure of the Large Town of Damascus. I know it was a long term vision of your founding members never would I have dreamed in my lifetime that such land gains would have been made in that area. The fall of Damascus represents the last Muslim stronghold in the region, we have chased them down to the bare bones. Let us do to them what they wish to do to us and chase them into oblivion!!!

After a truly breathtaking victory Vartholomaios Ksiros is a candidate for adoption into the royal family as the fourth of Andrinikos' available candidates. I have somewhat hastily accepted the previous adoption given the suitability of the candidate the grandmaster of the order no less. As the Muslim threat diminishes, so does the need for Fortified castles. The Castle at Acre has begun the process towards converting to a settlement more like Damascus and may even one day become a city of Antiochs prominence. In Antioch a pious place indeed, a fine Master Theologions Guild has been built in testament to the Order and its determination.

The Seljuks have sieged our North eastern settlement of Yeveren with a large force. I can only pray that privy council member and leader of the House of the Kommandaukai Pavlos Chrysovergos has the blessing that the above mentioned senator has. God speed to you. Your priortised units as requested for Andrinikos (retrianed men) have been recruited in Tblisi. I hope he can start to push forward on his dangerous journey toward Baku.

The Final settlements that remain under the Seljuk banner are Mosel and Baghdad. Our Spies have sent word that much like Damascus there are troops in quantity if not quality. It will remain up to us whether we continue to chase them across Arabia.

Meanwhile the Fatamids have been massively subdued, it seems they are desperate to remain an entity. Their pathetic governance is left to two men, the crown prince just outside Solomiea and also the Sultan Abdul Rahmen who is said to be seen as some sort of deity type figure to his men. What better way to end the Fatamid existence then to show the mortality of such a man by eliminating him in the conquest of Mecca?

I myself have set out on my journey to discover and confront the last of our sworn enemies, the scoundrals who besieged the Capital itself, the Moors. Isaakos Komnenus has likewise boarded a vessel and will rendezvous with myself shortly - I look forward to sailing with him.

I present you a report on further happenings in our empire in the year 1152.

Priorities:

Pavlos Chrysovergos has 1 out of the 10 PUs available.

Armatos ek Naksou has 0 of his 10 PUs available. Work has begun on the Priortised Ikoners Studio in Antioch, a shining beacon of Orthodox Christianity.

Ioannis Kalematros has all 8 of his 8 PUs available.

Senator and family announcements:

It seems she has her mothers quality for turning a young gentlemens eye, I bring news of a second young suitor for Helena Kalameteros, the daughter of Ioannis and Anna Kalameteros. I have left it open for the father (or perhaps the mother) to accept the hand of this man in marriage. This candidate seems a more robust choice for a princess.

Domestikos Zigavinos Vasilakios continues to harry the pirates on the Black Sea coast, I estimate that he will have cleared the pesky rebellions in two years time.

Antypatos Aleksios ek Ikoniou continues his journey north to attack the rebels just North of Bucherest.

Building:

Our budget was mainly focussed on developments in the Holy Land this year, fitting given the events in Damascus. The detail of that building work has been mentioned elsewhere.

I was able to siphon off some funds to continuing to develop our settlements in Anatolia. A Market is being developed in Trebizond, the ongoing project of mine to develop more money spinning settlements in the empire. I estimate in 5 years this will mimic Iconium in earning potential. Indeed, in this very settlement a Town Hall has just been completed. A crowd pleasing Brothel has began business in Smyrna also, a welcome resort for weary sailors no doubt!!!

I am pleased to announce the completion of some fine stables in Belgrade, it would seem as many young senators move west we need a third well built castle to support any defense against the Catholic nations from the west. Belgrade will hopefully serve this duty well.

Misc:

The council of nobles have asked us to blockade Mecca.

There is a small rebel force to the north of Bucharest, there is another in between Sinop and Trebizond. My lord Zigavinos will soon eliminate the scum near Trebizond.

Moved Methodios Tagaris back to Medina (or whatever it is called now), along with all units that were in his stack and the two mercenary units that were just north of him, since all of those units seem to have been moved at the same time. Methodios and all of those units can be treated as if they have not yet moved this turn. Please note that due to the limitations I have with the console, those units actually have more movement now than they did at the start of the turn. Please do not abuse this extra movement.

Added in traits gained via the University:
Ioannis Kalameteros (deguerra) - Gained trait Pragmatic at Level 1 (Mostly Rational)

Methodios Tagaris (Tristan de Castelreng) - Existing trait Castle_Edu advanced to Level 2 (Knighted)

Armatos ek Naksou (Cecil XIX) - Gained trait Castle_Edu at Level 1 (Squire)

Andronikos Komnenos (woads&fangs) - Gained trait Pragmatic at Level 1 (Mostly Rational)

Ioannis Komnenos (Ignoramus) - Did not gain any traits. His trait request was received after he had advanced to the rank of Basileus. Due to the inability of the Basileus to hold any other ranks than Megas (See Penalty 1), Ioannis Komnenos lost the rank of Scholar the instant he became Basileus. Thus, he was no longer eligible to use the University.

Report for 1153:

Senators, as we live and breathe we can now surely call ourselves Romans with pride. Yet more victories in the field this time in the North of Yeveren. A constant of these fine years, the fallen on the battlefield shall not and have not been forgotten in forging this resurgent empire.

Some of us are getting old, it is therefore welcome to see the next generation starting to come of age. They are clearly from the finest stock of man you could find and it is with hope that these youngsters can lead the way for the future. As I write to you know in my last Megas report for this term, I am about to be joined at Sea by Isaakios Komenenos the youngest son of our late Basilues. It is hard to believe he is gone and I am sure we all miss him greatly.

Three prominent teenagers are now ready to participate for the greater cause of the empire, I would like to introduce them to you. First of all we have the Basilues' eldest son Ioannis the Younger.

https://img396.imageshack.us/img396/9151/ioannistheyoungerji6.jpg[

We also have Magnentios Kalematros, the eldest son of Ioannis Kalematros leader of the Asteri...

https://img233.imageshack.us/img233/5589/magnentioswv1.jpg

(OOC: I fell out of my chair when I saw that)

and finally a young princess the daughter of the Caeser Methodios Tagaris

https://img291.imageshack.us/img291/8553/hypatialu2.jpg

To the future!!!

I will present myself to the senate and report to you all on the fight against the enemies of the empire shortly.

Before I do here is a report on further happenings in our empire in the year 1153.

Priorities:

Work has been completed on the Stone wall as Priortised by Basilues Ioannis Komnenus.

Likewise work has been completed on the Ikoners Studio for Armatos ek Naksou

Senator and family announcements:

The young princess Hypatia Tagaris has already attracted the attention of a suitor. I leave it open to whom it may concern as to whether or not to accept such a man into the family tree.

Domestikos Zigavinos Vasilakios has finally defeated the pirates on the shores of the Black sea. He has been seriously wounded and is now returning to Markinople to recieve treatment. Get well soon my lord.

Domestikos Vissarionas ek Lesvou has gained a Pagan Magician into his retinue.

Hypatos Vartholomaios Ksiros as gained the Duke of Damascus title erronously, once again I am not familiar with the console to change this to Armatos as is the rules of our empire. His adoption offer to the royal family was rejected.

Building:

Upon returning to our Capital for the debate of the senate session and my subsequent departure to lands alone I felt the need to satisfy my piety. I feel I have been surrounded by money and power for so long I fear my mind will turn against my christianity. Therefore I spent huge amounts of money on spiritual buildings this past year.

Religious buildings were built in Sofia, Adana, Iconium, Tortosa, Damascus, Durazzo and Alexandria. I hope that I will live to visit them all one day when they have been completed.

Military spending however was not completed forgotten. Outlying establishments such as Belgrade recieved funding for a Bowyer, the Ballista Maker in Solomeia was fixed and the eastern castle of Tblisi saw a formal blacksmith opened for business to better armor troops trained there.

In the west, Bucherest and Thessilonika complete fine administrative buildings that will soothe population issues there. In the meantime Arta is ready to upgrade its walls.

Near Tblisi, in honour of Pavlos Chrysovergos' victory a Town Hall will be built in his name after the many that died in battle at Yeveren.

The Holy land is largely secured from Seljuks, a Wooden Wall has begun to be built in Aleppo to ensure their influence stays out. Speaking of which, I personally sent the order to a medium size captain led army to eliminate the nearby Seljuks who were sulking in nearby fields. Further south the peoples will have less trouble getting around between Cairo and anywhere else with Paved Roads.

Finally, for the attention of the Basileus, an Explorers Guild is available for completion in Nicaea. I have left it up to him whether he accepts this.

Misc:

There are two cities now found for possible Roman expansion in the Holy Land sphere. The arrogant Holy Roman Empire control over the settlement of Jerusalam is no more. They are somewhat sympathetic to the Orthodox christian faith, however they have misguidedly set up with some Islamic extremists in charge. I see some senators have already started gathering forces to take up arms against this.

Meanwhile our spies have seen a town called Edessa which will set itself as an excellent waypoint towards the Seljuk core strongholds in Baghdad and Mosel.

A Kievan Rus princess is available, and the Venetian Doge is dead.

There is a small rebel force to the north of Bucharest, there is another near Nicaea.

A merchent has been trained in Cairo. There are three more in the field hunting for valuable resources
Two approach the Ivory sources near Dongola, the other approaches the Gold mines near Medina.

Please wait until Ituralde opens the game for play before begining your 1155 moves. Also, no one is permitted to accept or refuse the current marriage offer that is up for Princess Hypatia Tagaris, nor is anyone permitted to move her. There is an issue regarding the Princess which is being resolved. This lock on the marriage offer and movement will be lifted before the current turn ends, but I need her current situation to remain unaltered for about another 24 hours.

LOTR-1155-2:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=193&id=4103

Vissarionas ek Lesvou (Ramses II CP) awakens to a bloodbath. During the night, skilled assassins snuck past his army's sentries and struck at the sleeping men. Somehow the villains were able to slit the throats of all 110 Sudanese Tribesmen without anyone raising an alarm. No sign of the attackers can be found, they have escaped into the desert. An attack of this ferocity and skill can only be the work of the Hashshashin.

After a reasonably successful Senate session, Basileus Ioannis Komnenos (Ignoramus) retires to his palace for the evening. On the way, he decides to pay a visit to the man who has been his Mentor since he was a boy. Instead of friendly conversation with a loyal servant, he finds a cold, lifeless corpse. His Mentor has been strangled to death by an unknown assailant. Given the large number of guards at the Basileus' palace, this was act was committed by a man of incredible skill. Only a fool would suspect anyone other than the notorious Hashshashin.

https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=193&id=4104

Caesar Methodios Tagaris is irate at the Basileus' decision to marry off his daughter Hypatia without his permission. The time of decision is upon him. At the moment, the Princess remains completely under his power. She is living with him in a city controlled by his vassal, and she is surrounded and protected by the Caesar's personal army. However, the moment she leaves the city and begins the journey towards her new suitor, this control will be lost, likely never to be recovered.

Caesar Methodios Tagaris has decided to take the monumental decision of ignoring the Basileus' decree. Instead, he has chosen to exercise his own control over his daughter and has married her off to a man of his choosing.

https://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b203/TinCow/LOTR/misc/LOTR003-1.jpg

https://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b203/TinCow/LOTR/1155/vakchos_tzetzis.jpg

As a result of this blatant and intentional disregard of the Basileus' right to exercise sole authority over all marriages of royal Princesses, a state of war now exists between Caesar Methodios Tagaris (Tristan de Castelreng) and Basileus Ioannis Komnenos (Ignoramus). For the purposes of the Game Rules, Caesar Methodios Tagaris will be considered the person who has declared war. As Basileus Ioannis Komnenos has no vassals, he is currently in this war by himself. As Efthymios ek Herakliou (Dafuge) is a vassal of Methodios Tagaris, he is currently involved in the war on the Caesar's side.

----

Please note that Tristan de Castelreng is temporarily unable to access the game. I am going to extend the mandatory waiting period for each turn to 48 hours until he can access the game again on October 31st. Until that time, I will be taking screenshots of the in-game situation and supplying them to Tristan so that he can make decisions about how and where to move. I will be implementing his moves according to his instructions.

LotRMod 1.3 will be completed later tonight and uploaded. It is not necessary to install it before the end turn button is hit, so its lack of availability does not need to impact anyone else just yet.

LotRMod 1.3 is now available for download. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=193&id=4107)

As with before, extract this zip file into your base M2TW folder and let it overwrite anything that it asks about. In reality, the mod only changes one character in one line in one file, but we need a new full version of the mod anyway for new players.

In accordance with CA 6.3, the only change is to return the wage cost to its original value of 200 (it was previously modded down to 100). This has resulted in an increase in wages (and a corresponding decrease in income) of about 3000 florins per turn.

It is recommended that everyone install the new version of the mod before continuing to play. However, it is only strictly necessary for the person who is pressing the end turn button. Anyone pressing the end turn button for official game purposes absolutely must have the new version installed.

Overwriting is the proper thing to do. As long as you didn't delete everything in the old version folder you should be fine. It just needs to overwrite a few files in the SS folder and subfolders.

Report for 1155:

This is my first Megas Report. After familiarizing myself with the bureaucratic apparatus of our country I immediatelly set to work to fulfill the wishes of the Senate and the various House Leaders. I noted that many informations in the Status and Order Thread are extremely outdated. I ask every Senator to update his Orders, this includes a list of Prioritizations of those to whom it applies.

Recruitment:

Ioannis Komnenos used 0 out of his 15 PUs.
Armatos ek Naksou used 0 out of his 6 PUs.
Ioannis Kalameteros used 2 out of his 8 PUs.
Nikolaos Aristenos used 0 out of his 4 PUs.
Apionnas Vringas used 3 out of his 4 PUs.
Methodious Tagaris used 0 out of his 2 PUs.

In accordance to Ioannis Kalameteros wishes I have recruited two units of Byzantine Spearmen in Belgrade.

In accordance with Apionnas Vringas wishes I have recruited two units of Dismounted Byzantine Lancers and one unit of Byzantine Spearmen in Sofia.

Aside from this the only recruitment has been replenishment of troops in Yerevan, Dyarbakir and Tblisi to help move against the Seljuk Turks.

Furthermore two Dromons were comissioned in Nicaea to assemble a fleet for the invasion of Venice. To the same end a fleet in the Mediterranean has been recalled to aid in the upcoming war.

No other recruitment for the war against Venice has taken place yet. I ask all Senators who wish to join in this war to assemble near Belgrade and Scopia from where the two main attack forces against the Venetian holdings will be lead. Once I see how many men each Senator brings with him the armies will be brought up to strength through recruitment from Sofia and Belgrade. I ask the Senators governing said Castles to assisst in this matter by granting me the use of the newly recruited units.

Construction:

Ioannis Komnenos used 0 out of his 2 PBs.
Armatos ek Naksou used 0 out of his 1 PB.
Ioannis Kalameteros used o out of his 1 PB.
Nikolaos Aristenos used 0 out of his 1 PB.
Apionnas Vringas used 0 out of his 1 PB.

Due to insufficient funds I was not able to construct the prioritized Huge Walls in Antiokheia. As an effect of this and in accordancce with our Charter no further construction was started.

Domestic Affairs:

The financial situation is a tight one with the new raise in wages and the uncooperative tax settings of a few Senators it is doubtful whether any construction can be started this turn. In other bad news the competition for the lucrative slave trade near Dongola is fierce. While we may have defeated the Fatamids on the battlefied their contacts to the African slavers have thrown one of our merchants out of business.

Maybe some of this will change with the building of a Master Merchant Guild, which has proposed to set up in Cairo.

The citizens of Damascus have rioted. Hundreds were killed in the streets. There is currently no garrison there to protect the citizens and restore order. It seems like the Order is willing to abandon the settlement to itself. Should they request it I will not intervene however much it pains me to see Roman citizens suffer.

A new son has been born, Evdaemon Dermokaitis! I congratulate Ioannis Kalameteros on this addition to his family.

Another addition to the Imperial family would be a young Ioannis Apionas who would make a suitable candidate for adoption for Andronikos Komnenos. I await his response on the matter.

Foreign Affairs:

The Pope has called upon all of Christendom to join him in a Holy Crusade against Tunis. It seems the Catholics have given up on the Levant. This is confirmed by troops of the Holy Roman Empire moving north, fleeing the humiliation they suffered in Jerusalem.

Report for 1156:

Battles:

The forces that have landed on Crete were ambushed by a large contigent of Venetians that has been hiding in the countryside surrounding Heraklion. It seems the Venetians weren't as unprepared as we thought. Nevoulas ek Philadelphias was forced to retreat to the safety of his ships. I am confident that he will launch another attack in the coming year.

The Seljuk Turks are once again showing their strength. They have appeared in force outside of Tblisi and have laid siege to the castle. Andronikos Komnenos has my permission to remove any Cavalry units from Yerevan to assist in repelling the attacker.

Recruitment:

Ioannis Komnenos used 0 out of his 15 PUs.
Armatos ek Naksou used 6 out of his 6 PUs.
Ioannis Kalameteros used 4 out of his 8 PUs.
Nikolaos Aristenos used 4 out of his 4 PUs.
Apionnas Vringas used 4 out of his 4 PUs.
Methodious Tagaris used 0 out of his 2 PUs.

I have followed the Prioritization requests sent to me by the various Houses. Considering the fragility of our financial situation I have made adjustments where necessary. As such units that were recruited far away from the current theater of war Venice have been reduced in quality to save money. This applies to the units recruited in Tortosa, Acre and Gaza.

Some Militia has been established in Damascus but it isn't enough to stop the rioting. I urge the Order of St. John to send in troops from their adjacent possession if they want to keep control over this settlement.

More ships were built to enlargen our navy. This will be needed in the war against Venice. Only now the Council of Nobles has charged me with blockading the port of Ragusa. Maye this would be a more worthwile enterprise for Theo Petzeas than heading for the shores of Sicily.

Once again the large amounts of money spent on Prioritized Units have not allowed me to being construction on the Priorized Huge Walls in Antiokheia. As a result no other construction could be conducted in the Empire.

The Large Walls in Alexandria could not be built as workers were still busy finishing construction of another building.

Domestic Affairs:

The Slave trade around Dongola remains in Fatamid hands. I will cease efforts to control it for now. They are proving too expensive.

In light of the financial need a Master Merchant's Guild has set up its offices in Cairo. This should help bring the much-needed boost to our economy.

Another Guild has offered to establish itself in Corinth. They are from the Swordmaster's Guild. I await word on this from the owner of Corinth.

The Imperial family continues to grow. Sophronis Komnenos has come of age and one young Nikitas Philanthrophios is a candidate for adoption for Ioannis Kantakouzinos.

Foreign Affairs:

The French have joined the Crusade on Tunis. Their force that has been travelling through our lands has taken up the Cross again and is marching towards the coast near Constantinople.

Report for 1158:

Battles:

The war against Venice had its first important battle. And although we won it was at the great loss of Nevoulas ek Philadelphias! He was an inspirational man who led the Empire with a steady hand. He will be missed in the days to come.

Another victory was won against a small Venetian fleet in the Strait of Sicily. Admiral Niphos is on his way to besiege Ragusa port.

While we are on the topic of the navy. It is important that the Imperial fleet is under full control at all times to engage the Venetians at sea and to open up a new front on the Italian peninsular. Senator Theo Petzeas has seized several fleets and is now controlling the largest Imperial fleet! I urge him to use these ships against our common enemy the Venetians or release control of them, so that they can be used to carry the fight to their shores!

I congratulate Andronikos Komnenos on removing the Seljuk threat to Tblisi.

Recruitment:

Ioannis Komnenos used 0 out of his 15 PUs.

Construction:

Ioannis Komnenos used 0 out of his 2 PBs.
Armatos ek Naksou used 0 out of his 1 PB.
Ioannis Kalameteros used 0 out of his 1 PB.
Nikolaos Aristenos used 1 out of his 1 PB.
Apionnas Vringas used 0 out of his 1 PB.

Several Chapels and Churches were finished throughout the Empire to spread the Faith. The new Highways now reach all the way to Athens.

The walls of Alexandria are about to be enlarged. This major undertaking has stripped the Imperial treasury of most of its content leaving no money to do a similar but more expensive construction in Antiokheia.

As it stands the required 12 000 florins will be hard to come by with an annual income of around 6000 florins right now. This means there won't be any construction for at least the next two turns.

Domestic Affairs:

The Merchant's Guild is offering it's services to Nicaea. I await word on the matter. Please refrain from accepting these offers yourself as spending the money of our Empire is solely up to the Megas Logothetes.

Speaking of Nicaea. A large group of dissenters is plaguing the countryside. It is time to intervene.

Foreign Affairs:

The Germans have joined the Crusade and are now marching towards Tunis. They are currently in the Nile delta. The French Crusaders have not boarded ships and seem instead intent on taking the long way around to reach Tunis entirely by land.

Report for 1159:

Battles:

Caesar Methodios Tagaris has defeated the last Fatamid stronghold in Mecca. While this does not abolish him from breaking Imperial law we can now rest easier with one major heathen threat removed from our borders.

The fleet under Admiral Niphos has defeated another larger division of Venetian ships and now proceeds towards Ragusa. His fleet is damaged and he won't be able to beat the Venetians back for long.

I had hoped to reinforce his fleet with those ships used by Nevoulas ek Philadelphias which have been seized by Theo Petzeas. During a time where our treasury runs low this Senator has a fleet worth 7000 florins under his command whose upkeep costs the Empire 1700 florins each turn!
These ships are needed in the war against Venice. The Eastern Mediterranean is safe. If Theo Petzeas does not relinquish command of these ships I will be forced to take more direct consequences.

No Prioritized Units have been forwarded to me. I have recruited two units of Byzantine Spearmen and two units of Byzantine Cavalry in Belgrade and Sofia, after removing three of each from each castle. I will recruit the remaining units taken once more funds and recruits are available. I thank Zigavinos Vasilakios and Apionnas Vringas for their cooperation on this matter. The units are intended for Savvas ek Militou.

I see that Tiverios Indikoplefstis is marching on Ragusa, while Aleksios ek Ikoniou is in a good position to march on Zagreb. This would leave Savvas ek Militou in a good position to transfer to the Italian mainland. Admiral Niphos will be at his disposal once the blockade of Ragusa port was successful. I would gladly offer more ships, but unfortunately they have all been taken by Senator Theo Petzeas.

Construction:

Ioannis Komnenos used 0 out of his 2 PBs.
Armatos ek Naksou used 1 out of his 1 PB.
Ioannis Kalameteros used 0 out of his 1 PB.
Nikolaos Aristenos used 1 out of his 1 PB.
Apionnas Vringas used 0 out of his 1 PB.

With the money gained from the sacking of Mecca construction could begin on Huge Stone Walls in Antioch, as requested by Armatos ek Naksou.

With this major project out of the way and our armies up to strength I am confident that further Construction will be undertaken next turn.

Domestic Affairs:

In an effort to boos our financial gains the offer of the Merchant's Guild in Nicaea was accepted.

The Venetian citizens of Nevoulion have rioted against their new rule. Thousands died in the streets and several buildings were damaged.

Foreign Affairs:

The King of France passed away this year as well as the Duke of Poland. Also in the Holy Empire a new regent now leads the country.

The Milanese have opened a second front against the Venetians. This should help our war effort immensly!

The troops brought to Belgrade under Aleksios ek Ikoniou have been reinforced with more Skythikons and the Byzaninte Spearmen taken from the Castle earlier were also retrained.

The same is true for Byzantine Cavalry in Sofia.

I thank Aleksios ek Ikoniou for letting me use the docks at Corinth. Two new Dromons should be joining Admiral Niphos shortly who has begun his blockade of Ragusa port.

On the matter of fleets. Since Theo Petzeas has agreed earlier to return ships to Isaakios Komnenos should he require them, I hope the matter of their Civil War can be ended amenable.

With the Prioritized Buildings out of the way some more construction was started this year.

The conversion of Tortosa from a Castle to a town was begun. I hope this will help our finances in the future.

In recognition of the money taken from Kosmopolis a small Chapel is currently built to commemorate the victory of the one true faith.

Funds have been given to Nevoulion to repair the damage inflicted during the recent riots.

Domestic Affairs:

Savvas ek Militou is about to join forces just east of Scopia. He has my permission to use the troops under the nearby Captain.

Apasios Melachrinos has intention to become the husband of Rosanna Mavrozomis. If those responsible for young Rosanna could inform me of their approval or disapproval it would be much appreciated.

The citizens of Dongola have rioted after the removal of the garrison. It was a rather quiet affair though.

Foreign Affairs:

The Venetians have moved towards our territory. There are currently two small detachments making their way towards Durazzo and Belgrade respectively. Those generals venturing towards Ragusa and Zagreb should prepare for this opposition along their way.

I have to deny the rumours in the streets that Kiev the capital of our allies has fallen to a foreign power and that we need to send help to our allies in this time of need. It appears the leader of the Kievan Rus has been thrown out of his own capital by his unhappy subjects. I am sure he will be able to control the situation eventually.

The Pope has shown his incompetence once again. His Crusade has crumbled to nothing only a few years after it started. It seems the so-called faith of our neighbours was not enough to drive them onwards.

Report for 1164:

Battles:

The war against Venice has seen its first battle on the mainland. Senator Savvas ek Militou defeated a divison of Venetian forces in the mountains outside Durazzo. For his deeds ek Militou could become a member of the Imperial family. The final say in this matter rests with Andronikos Komnenos. (OOC: Savvas got a MotH that would go to Andronikos)

This will not be the last encounter with the Venetians. Our spies report massive and erratic troop movement by our foe. While many of it makes no apparent reason right now, we can assert the following. The troops near Belgrade have withdrawn, while reinforcements are on their way from Ragusa. Nearly a full army is marching towards Zagreb, while several smaller contigents are in the viccinity of their capital.

No recruitment took place.

With the Prioritized Buildings out of the way some more construction was started this year.

More Markets were improved in Yerevan and Nicaea.

The walls of Arta are about to be improved.

A blacksmith will be built in Sofia to help the war effort.

The damages in Alexandria could not be repaired as the workers are still finishing the new walls.

Domestic Affairs:

I welcome Ariadni Dermokaitis to the Imperial family. I am sure she will grow into a beautiful woman one day.

The Council of Nobles has asked me to reinfroce Belgrade with troops. This time the reward will be given in florins, which are much more reliable than some bloody peasants showing up, if you ask me. I will look into fulfilling their request.

Andronikos Komnenos has left Tblisi and is on his way to Baku.

Foreign Affairs:

Gerarimos Rizikopos, one of our spies, informs me that he has successfully infiltrated Ragusa Castle. He is to lend his full assistance to any attacking force.

The matter of the Sicilians on Crete is still unresolved. It is not clear what the connection of this small band of warriors is to the Sicilian Court. Should they become aggressive we will defend ourselves!

Edessa has fallen to the Turkish host. Those heathens must be stopped!

Admiral Niphos has sailed partly up the Adriatic coast. I give Savvas ek Militou permission to make use of his fleet this turn to sail towards Italy.

A large Seljuk host was spotted outside Damascus. I wish Armatos ek Naksou all the best should it come to a battle.

It seems the Venetians still can't decide to combat us. A large part of their leaderless troops has gone rebel and is now causing havoc amongst their ranks. When will those merchants learn that it takes the authority of a true general to lead men into battle, just shoving money at your troops is not enough!

Report for 1167:

Battles:

Ragusa was successfully taken from the Venetians! I retrained the garrison as far as possible, but even now Ragusa is once again under siege by a small detachment of Venetians! I wish Tiverios Indikoplefstis the same courage he showed when storming the Castle!

Recruitment:

Ioannis Komnenos used 0 out of his 15 PUs.
Armatos ek Naksou used 6 out of his 6 PUs.
Ioannis Kalameteros used 6 out of his 8 PUs.
Nikolaos Aristenos used 4 out of his 4 PUs.
Apionnas Vringas used 4 out of his 4 PUs.
Methodious Tagaris used 0 out of his 2 PUs.

As requested by Ioannis Kalameteros two units of Skythikon were recruited in Belgrade. The rest of the prioritized units will follow soon.

The destroyed Town Watch in Alexandria is being rebuilt. After this maybe the recruitment of more garrison will quell the resistance.

A Land Clearance was started in Acre and Dirt Roads are being constructed in Damascus.

Sinop has started the construction of Mines.

In the matter of Edict 6.2. We have the funds to convert both Rhodes and Nicosia into towns. All that I need now is a build queue that let's me do this. I hope this will be honoured in remembrance of Nevoulas ek Philadelphias.

Domestic Affairs:

Andronikos Komnenos has been held up by two smaller Turkish forces at a bridge near Baku. He has to fight to move on!

Although we have some money to construct again it still isn't enough to tackle the bigger projects that are out there. In light of these developments I ask the House of Asteri to cease their detrimental tax policy. The Civil War is about to be resolved and the money is needed to battle Venice and advance the infrastructure of our Empire!

Foreign Affairs:

Ignatios Rossotas, one of our spies has infiltrated Zagreb. I hope he can assisst in the upcoming siege.

Bad news have come to us from Italy. The Milanese have signed a peace treaty with the Venetians!

Again the MOH was brought up and declined once more. The prisoners were offered for ransom of 1335 florins but it was rejected by the enemy.

Moved from the bridge and beseiged Zagreb. Though our agent is inside the settlement it was too low of cahnce to try and attack without seige equipment. There is a small Venetian force NW of the city.

Final Report:

Senators of the Roman Empire. This year my term as Megas has ended. When I took up the position Civil War and strife were on the horizon and threatened the integrity of our Empire. Being loyal to one party in this conflict has caused fear in many that partisan politics would lead to even further destruction from the Civil War. I hope that I have proven through my actions that those fears were not true.

All recruitment done by me this term went to waging war against our foreign neighbours, namely Venice and the Seljuks. While the conflict between the Basileus and the Order of St. John has stalled our advance against the Seljuk Turks, I want to recommend Methodios Tagaris for taking down the last Fatamid stronghold.

The war against Venice has started out successfully. Although I must admit that the attack could have been conducted faster. We have taken two of their settlements and are about to besiege two more. I am confident that the next Megas term will see the complete assimilation of our former vassals. This should be enough to fulfill Edict 6.1.

The one thing that held me back most during the last term was our lack of funds. Our Cities have reached sizes where building projects require at least half of our total income. Under such conditions low taxes will get us nowhere. Not only is this hurting our Empire now, but in the long run the lack of development in our Cities will present a bill that is even higher. I strongly discourage the tax policies as they are now applied by the House of Asteri and hope that they will change their mind soon.

With our financial situation in mind I have embarked on building places to trade in our Cities. I am proud to announce that almost every City within the Empire that can support it now boasts a proper 'Market'. Furthermore I have opened new lucrative trades that provide the Empire with Ivory and other luxuries. There are still more worthy trade goods to be found at the far corners of our Empire and the next Megas would do well to exploit them.

I am not getting any younger and probably won't see the end of the next Megas term. There are still many unresolved conflicts within our Empire and without and I would be happy to see some of them resolved before the end of my lifetime.

It has been an honour to serve the Senate of Rome.
Your respectful servant,

Pavlos Chrysovergos

This is the save to be used after the 1170 AD Senate Session is over. The following changes were made:

Zigavinos Vasilakios - Smyrna and Caesarea ancillaries removed
Andreas Dermokaitis - Belgrade ancillary given
Sophronios Komnenos - Smyrna ancillary given
Magnentios Kalameteros - Caesarea ancillary given
1 or 2 other title ancillary changes I did ages ago and have forgotten

University Traits added:
Aleksios ek Ikoniou - Second level of "Goodbuilder"
Vartholomaios Ksiros - "Just"

Info on which traits to improve were never received for: Methodios Tagaris, Tiverios Indikoplefstis, Ioannis Kalameteros, and Apionnas Vringas. It is now too late to include these traits in time to have them impact influence for the 1170 AD session. However, I will still accept orders for these traits for 2 more game turns. If orders are not received by the end of the 1173 AD game turn, the unspecified University traits for the last Megas term will be forfeited.

OOC:

1.3 – Battles: A player whose avatar leads an army that is involved in a battle will be expected to fight that battle. This will involve downloading the savegame of the battle, playing it and then uploading the resulting savegame. Uploading the post-battle save must be done within 48 hours of the pre-battle savegame being uploaded. If the deadline expires, the battle is autoresolved. If a player cannot fight a battle that is assigned to them, the battle may also be fought by any player whose avatar will also be present in the battle. Under no circumstances will a battle be fought by a player whose avatar is not present in the battle. If there is no player available to fight a battle, it must be autoresolved. If there are no allocated avatars involved in the battle at all, it must be autoresolved.

I am making an exception for OK if it risks his death since he hasn't been online in 2 days and it's the holiday season when people tend to be AWOL more often. The rules are clear on autoresolving though, and it'll have to be done eventually, regardless of the result.

OOC: OverKnight has now had 92 hours to play his battle. He has been online at least twice since that time. He has not read the last two PMs I sent him, dating back to December 9th. He did not vote in the Seventh Senate Session, and has not posted anywhere on the Org for nearly a month. Accordingly, I have no choice but to autoresolve the battle and get the game moving again.

IC: Ragusa has fallen and Tiverios Indikoplefstis has been killed.
