Lost some 200 men vs. 400 or so enemy casualties.

As it has been 2 days since the last battle was fought and Ignoramus has not finished the turn up, I loaded it myself to get the job done. However, it seems there is yet another defensive battle to be fought this season. This time it is Aleksios ek Ikoniou (Northnovas) being assaulted by two Venetian armies. Good luck!

I have advanced the game through the rest of the AI turn to keep the game moving. The save is now open for all to use. The save will close when Ignoramus says it will, but not sooner than 48 hours.

End of turn scrolls:
Aleksios ek Ikoniou (Northnovas) has a Man of the Hour adoption up. Ioannis Kantakouzinos (Kagemusha) is the adopter. However, as he has not posted in the game in 3 months and is being moved to Inactive status, Northnovas is allowed to decide whether the adoption is accepted or not.
Ireni (wife of Basileus Aleksios, mother of Basileus Ioannis) has died.
Sofia is ready to upgrade.
New noble mission to garrison Acre.

I did not have time to do the suicides or queue up the RBGs this morning. That will be done when I get home from work.

Dear Basileus,

Allthough severely outnumbered, Savvas ek Militou decided to attack the Venetians near Bologna.

We suffered a clear defeat. Savvas died heroically.

What's left of us managed to escape to the ships.

We're in a hopeless situation.

Please, send help.

LOTR-1171-6 (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=193&id=4245)

The following avatars have been killed off:
Nathanail ek Korinthou (BananaBob)
Makedonios Ksanthopoulos (Privateerkev)
Vissarionas ek Lesvou (Ramses II CP)
Klimis Dokeianos (GeneralHankerchief)

Nikolaos Aristenos (YLC) has requested a temporary stay of execution for IC reasons. He will continue to live until YLC tells me otherwise.

A total of 14 RBGs have been queues up in Constantinople and the 4 other settlements closest to it. If for some reason recruitment needs to occur in any of those cities this turn, the Megas (Ignoramus) is free to remove the RBGs and queue them up elsewhere.

The above deaths, as well as other recent events, have left the title retinues completely mixed up in the game. I will be sorting this out shortly. Please notify me if you are aware of specific retinues which need to be transferred.

In his last will, Makedonios Ksanthopoulos (Privateerkev) left all of his retinue to Armatos ek Naksou (Cecil XIX) to either use himself or distribute to others as he saw fit. The retinue available for Armatos to redistribute is: Fine Armour, Shieldbearer, Veteran Warrior, Iron Crown of Lombardy, Priest.

Report for 1171:

I have purchased the castle of Benghazi from the Sicilians. This came at the cost of a tribute of 4200 florins to the Sicilian Crown for 4 and half years(3 turns). I also concluded an alliance with them, which should assist us in driving out the Venetians and avenging the deaths of Savvas and Tiverios.

I note that the town of Bari has fallen to the Sicilians. Thus I shall be forced to make my invasion of Italy at the north of the peninsula.

Custom Battle, as part of the remainder of the War of Words. This custom battle is being fought by YLC to determine the fate of the war between Nikolaos Aristenos and Michail Arianitis. Avatars that are killed in this battle will be eliminated in the game, and casualties will be represented by disbanding units. If Nikolaos Aristenos wins, Durazzo will be considered captured and will become his possession. This battle is being fought by YLC against the AI with the explicit permission of both YLC and pevergreen. This is how they wish to resolve the war.

The setup has been created to mimic the in-game situation as accurately as possible.

Nikolaos Aristenos' Army (Byzantium Faction):
1 General's Bodyguard with 2 silver chevrons
3 Spear Militia
1 Militia Cavalry

Nikolaos' army has been supplied with 2 ladders and 1 ram. As the army is small and has few build points, I decided that siege towers could not have been constructed in the short time that has elapsed since Nikolaos arrived outside of Durazzo.

Michail Arianitis' Army (Portugal Faction - Chosen as the unit stats match Byantium's perfectly, except for the General's Bodyguard which is missing 1 point in Charge)
1 General's Bodyguard
3 Town Militia with 1 Bronze Chevron each

(Note: In the game, Michail's army has a heavily depleted (around 25 men) unit of Spear Militia with 1 bronze chevron. As I cannot duplicate a partial unit in-game, all three town militia have been given a chevron of experience to compensate.)

Nikolaos Aristenos vs. Michail Arianitis - 1173 (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=193&id=4260)

YLC may download and fight the battle whenever is most convenient, as it does not impact the current save.

To install the custom battle, unzip it to this folder:
\Medieval II Total War\Stainless_Steel_Mod\custom\

Then go to Single Player -> Custom Battle -> Load Battle

Please take a screenshot of the final results. Please also attempt to save the replay, which is done by pressing the camera button on the results screen. Then upload the replay to the Org.

Victory is complete and total (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=193&id=4261), with the Michail the Brave (or Foolish, depends on who you ask) having died in battle during the siege while trying to rally his men. Nikolaos Aristenos has signed the proper papers and has now retired, leaving the Protoasecretes to execute his will.

TinCow
01-04-2009, 23:27
This save implements the results of the Battle of Durazzo. Michail Arianitis was killed in the battle and has been killed off in the game. Nikolaos Aristenos retired from public life after the battle (IC), and has been killed off in the game (OOC). As per Nikolaos' will, his newly conquered province of Durazzo and his Veteran Warrior have been transfered to YLC's next avatar, Helarionas Anargiros, who has also been moved to Durazzo. As YLC's only action this turn was to fight a battle which involved no movement, he may still move Helarionas this turn if he wants to.

Casualties in the battle have been resolved as follows:
Nikolaos' Militia Cav took few casualties and have thus been left as they are. 1.5 regiments of the 3 Spear Militia were killed. However, Nikolaos also captured about 100 of Michail's Town Militia. For IC purposes, some of these men have agreed to join the militia of their new Lord and have filled up the ranks left in the depleted Spear Militia regiment. Thus, the total losses are both avatars, one of Nikolaos' Spear Militia, and all of the defenders. This leaves 2 regiments of Spear Militia, the Militia Cavalry, and Helarionas Anargiros (YLC) as the new Durazzo garrison.

LOTR 1173-3 (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=193&id=4269)

I'm not sure how helpful it is, but I've had this happen to me a lot. Sometimes it seems to happen during MOTH hits where the captain died, but I've seen it happen during MOTH and regular adoptions for no good reason from time to time, in both RTW and MTW2.

Game Master Note:

The distribution of PAs and PBs for each term is supposed to be determined by the ranks as they were during the last election. However, I did not keep a backup list of that state of the game and since then the feudal structure has changed dramatically and cannot be accurately re-created. For obvious reasons, Northnovas also does not know what the exact makeup of the feudal structure was like during the last election. For these reasons, we cannot properly distribute the PAs and PBs for this term.

As a result, and in the absense of a better option, I am declaring the current state of the feudal structure to be the one which will be used to determine the allocation of PAs and PBs for the remainder of this term. Please accept my sincere apologies for this situation. I will be sure and store a backup of the feudal structure during each normal Senate session from now on, to prevent this from ever happening again.

Report for 1174

Senators,

I have been asked to step in for Basileus Komnenos has he prepares for the invasion of Italy. I humble submit my briefing for the year

Recruitment:

The Army issue and buildings will be sorted out shortly. There were some militia Units created in the towns with low garrisons and the taxes were adjusted. Trebizond and Sinop reduced.

Construction:

Again the PB issue will be sorted there wa some necessary construction for the economy. Antiokheia received commission to erect a grain exchange.

Taxation:

The Treasury is at a deficit though minor. Do to unrest the taxes were lowered because of the unrest. We must look at rebuilding our economy.

Diplomacy:

The Diplomat Panaretos sold some maps to the Milanese for a small sum but it kept the relations to appreciative. Another diplomat has been recruited in the capital and will be send north west according to the current Edict.

Hot Issues:

The City of Durazzo has been besieged by the Venetians.
The City of Alexandria is in a state of unrest the citizens are very unhappy and there is a large Rebel Army close to the city limits causing further agitation.
A large Rebel Army is marching south on the road to Athens.

Military Campaigns:

The war in the west is slowly progressing. Basileus Ioannis is with the fleet and should be on the Italian Peninsula shortly with his army. We need to look at some artillery and upgrading our army if were are looking to war with the western factions. We have no suitable location to build siege equipment at the present time.

I must admit that I was shocked at the state of our Eastern Borders. I was led to believe that the Sultanate were on their last legs. They are in control of Aleppo and appear to be ready for another offensive. Our commanders in the East should evaluate and rectify the situation. The necessary supplies will be given for the war effort.

That concludes the year's report.

Interim Megas Logothetes Aleksios

New Save:

Open window there is an adoption benefactor Ioannis Katakouzions(Kagemusha) though I believe he is inactive. I didn't realize whose avatar till after the save.

Report for 1176

Recruitment:

The garrisons in Antiokhea and Alexandria were reinforced. Recruitment in Zagreb.

Construction:

The castle upgrade in Dardanellia has been completed. Town Hall started in Trebizond. A chapel consructed in Solomeia.

Taxation:

Some minor adjustments running a small deficit. Spending will be reduced to increase the treasury for larger capital projects. A merchant was recruited but the unrest in Egypt may have an impact on our trading routes. We have an excellent merchant class brining in signiifcant revenue and the opportunity to expand our economy.

Diplomacy:

Our diplomat is in French territory but they were not interested in any map exchange at the moment. Our newest diplomat is heading north to speak with our Hungarian neighbours. Diplomat Tarontis purchased a map from the Sicilians to view their territory.
The Milanese attacked the Sicilians and we had to decide which alliance to keep. Our history decided and we remained allies with the Sicilians. There was concern for the Basileus and his fleet and I didn't want to jeopardize the landing in Italy if the Sicilians were our enemies.

Hot Issues:

The City of Antiokhea has been beseiged by the Sultanate.
The City of Kosmopolis has rioted and on the fringe of being lost there were 13 soldiers killed in the newly formed militia units. 650 citizens have been killed.

Faction Announcements:

Magentos the Bastard is reportedly affect by scurvey from voyage at sea. Their was a proposal of marriage to Rosanna Mavrozmis from Ioannis Chrysoloras who was nothing more then a common begger and had no qualifications to be in the Royal Family.

Military Campaigns:

In the west the Venetians have pulled back to their borders and may be heading north to HRE territories. Durazzo is still beseiged and Ragusa looks it could be taken thus removing the pimple on the Adriatic eastern costal banks. Unfortunately, we do not look to be in a position to take advantage of this situation at the present moment.

In the east the Sultanate have pressed further and besieged another city. The troops were reinforced and hopefully the Duke Aleppo will prevent another city to be lost to the Seljuk. Will he be able to recapture his homelands back from the enemy. Who will take the initiative and secure the Holy Land?

The new save:

http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/M2TW_Uploads/MP_replays/LOTR-1177.zip

I will take pick up the turn on Sunday 18 Jan after 0600 EST.

Report of 1177

Recruitment:

Garrisons were beefed up Alexandria, Cairo, Durazzo. The troops in Tortasa retrained.

Construction:

The Abbey in Constantinople was completed and a chapel in Solemia. To assist with public order and goverenment Town Hall were commenced in Tortosa, Durazzo and Nevoulin. The City of Trebizond is eligible to upgrade.

Taxation:

The only adjustment increase in Tortasa they were almost at tax free status. The spending was limited and a profit carried into the new fiscal year. Some new trade routes opened but we are far from our potential in economic growth.

Diplomacy:

Our relations with the Danes have been rated so-so. Our diplomats tried to exchange maps with the Spanish but they insisted on paying us rather then a map and 970 florins were added to the treasury.

Hot Issues:

The City of Kosmopolis has rebelled action must be taken against the group responsible.

The battle was won easily with minimal losses among our troops. Ragusa is now back in the folds of the empire and the Venetians have lost their recruitment center behind our front lines.

Unfortunately the battle was not won without sacrifice. Magnentios' servants hid the extent to which a disease caught at sea had ravaged his body, no doubt to avoid being pressured to skip the fight with the Venetians. While pulling a feint on a unit of spearmen to distract them from Markos' charging bodyguards, Magnentios fell off his horse. Markos' charge was a success, but Magnentios was torn to shreds by the spearmen.

The fortress was sacked for 8898 florins, as revenge for Magnentios' death.

I have engaged the brigands terrorizing travelers on the road between Arta and Athens. Venetian coins and travel papers were found on the person of the bandit leader, leading me to suspect they were in the employ of the Italians. More worryingly, they seemed to know of our arrival, setting up a defensive position on the slope of a mountain we had been passed while looking for them, where my artillery was unable to follow.

Nonetheless they were easily routed and rounded up. All prisoners were executed as befits such scum.

As per the Megas' authorization, Markos has hired mercenaries before setting sail after Helarionas Anargiros.

The following were hired: 1 unit of Frankish Knights, 1 unit of Prussian Spearmen, 2 units of Macemen and 1 unit of Slavic Spearmen. The total cost was 3540 florins.

Markos' army, now 840 strong, then sailed within throwing distance of Helarionas Anargiros' fleet and is ready to engage hostilities.

(With the permission of TinCow I broke the rules and took my army of 10 units on my two ships, if more ships after this turn and the event is still going, he will generate the amount of ships I should be having as per Rule 7 of Event 5.)

TinCow
01-22-2009, 21:49
To clarify the above: I do not have access to the game at the moment and could not generate the ships TheFlax requested in accordance with the rules of Event Five. Since he was going to be using a combination of existing ships and temporary ships anyway, I told him to just make his moves with the existing ships, and I would add the temporary ones on later. This was done to keep the game from being delayed.

As a result of Markos ek Sinopis' (TheFlax) declaration of war and his move to a tile adjacent to Helarionas Anargiros (YLC), a PvP battle will occur. Other people may continue to play off of the current save, but the game cannot advance to a new turn until the PvP battle is resolved.

OOC Change: The 7 extra RBGs have been killed off.

IC Changes:

The fleeing Helarionas Anargiros (YLC) set sail from Durazzo, hoping to escape west. However, Markos ek Sinopis (TheFlax) responded quickly. With funds requisitioned from Megas Aleksios ek Ikoniou (Northnovas), he hired a large number of mercenaries and set sail in pursuit. He sighted Senator Anargiros' exhausted fleet in the waters southwest of Durazzo. Senator Anargiros' men did not have sufficient provisions to escape into the open sea, and they recognized quickly that if they remained with the fleet, Basileus Komnenos' fleet would soon catch up and obliterate them all. So, the only remaining option was to put ashore at the closest point available: southern Italy. There they disembarked and formed into a defensive formation. Markos ek Sinopis' army landed nearby and is now preparing to march on Helarionas Anargiros. A battle is about to begin.

(Note: Armies disembarked to provide a rational basis for the land battle despite it occuring after a naval encounter. Please note that one of Helarionas Anargiros' units could not be disembarked due to being out of movement. It is still on his fleet, but is considered part of the army and will be present in the battle.)

Meanwhile, further east, Senator Kousinos Sophianos (Cecil XIX) was holding the river crossing north of Antiokheia, barring the advancing Turks and rebels from moving on the city. As dawn broke over the encampment, a cry came up from the encampment of the elite Dismounted Latinkon. Quickly, the army stirred and woke, but it was too late. All 79 men in the regiment were dead in their tents, without a mark on their bodies. The cause was soon located: a communal stew pop laced with a most vile and deadly poison. Such an act must surely have been the work of the dreaded and mysterious Hashshashin.

(Note: Dismounted Latinkon unit disbanded)

LOTR-1182-14 (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=193&id=4368)

Results of the Battle of Apulia:

A victory for Helarionas Anargiros (YLC), with Senator Markos ek Sinopis (TheFlax) being captured in the process. However, it was not without cost. Both armies suffered extraordinary casualties before Senator ek Sinopis' brave men finally broke. With all remaining cavalry in Senator Anargiros' army, the survivors were quickly rounded up. After seeing their General held captive, and the skill with which Senator Anargiros conducted the battle, all survivors and prisoners agreed to join his army. Even so, the losses have been heavy.

Both armies have been merged. All units have been disbanded except those that would still have had a significant number of survivors after the battle and merging similar unit types. The extra survivors from units that ended up disbanded are presumed to have joined the depleted units to top them up. Helarionas Anargiros' (YLC) new army:

Original units from Helarionas' army:
1 Town Militia
1 Spear Militia
1 Cavalry Militia (partially depleted)
1 Skythikon

New units made up of former prisoners and survivors of Markos' army:
1 Prussian Spearmen
1 Macemen
1 Byzantine Spearmen (partially depleted)

In addition, due his startling victory agains the odds and his immense personal contribution to victory in the Battle of Apulia (not to mention the fact that he personally captured Markos ek Sinopis in battle), Helarionas Anargiros' (YLC) has gained the following traits:
Brave
Marks of War
Calm When Outnumbered

Further rules to implement the results of this battle:
1) The Skythikon are still stuck onboard the fleet. Before Helarionas Anargiros (YLC) moves next turn, I will take the save and add them back into his army, and reset their movement.

2) For the next turn only, no one may move either of the fleets next to Helarionas Anargiros (YLC), until he has had the opportunity to move. Thus, if he chooses to take to sea, he can merge both fleets for his personal use.

3) For in-game time purposes, Helarionas Anargiros' (YLC) next move will occur before Basileus Ioannis Komnenos' (Ignoramus). Both players may take the save whenever they want next turn, but if Ignoramus moves first and the move would result in a PvP battle, YLC can avoid it by moving himself away (for IC purposes, Helarionas' move occurs first).

4) Helarionas Anargiros (YLC) has lost many men, but he has also obtained all of Markos ek Sinopis' supply train and encampment. This has yielded sufficient sums to recruit 2 units. While this Event is in effect, YLC may hire up 2 mercenary units into his army, without getting consent from the Megas Logothetes. Non-merc units may also be recruited in this fashion, but Helarionas Anargiros must move into a city to do so. These units may be recruited immediately, or in future turns.

5) Markos ek Sinopis (TheFlax) is now a captive of Helarionas Anargiros (YLC). Neither TheFlax nor YLC may remove Markos ek Sinopis from Helarionas' stack while Markos remains captive. Markos will move and fight with Helarionas Anargiros' army for as long as he is captive. While Markos remains captive, Helarionas Anargiros (YLC) may take any of Markos' retinue without his consent, except settlement titles. At any point, and for any reason, Helarionas Anargiros (YLC) may release or execute Markos ek Sinopis. If a release occurs, Markos will be moved out of Helarionas' stack by himself and normal game rules will once again apply to him. If an execution occurs, Markos ek Sinopis will be killed off. Markos ek Sinopis (TheFlax) may not post in any IC thread except for the Stories and Battle Reports threads. All IC communications TheFlax wishes to make must be PMed to YLC first, who may choose to pass them on to their intended recipients/threads or block them from being sent.

Note that the war between Helarionas and Markos is still in effect and must be resolved by a Peace Treaty. Presumably Helarionas' current power over Markos will impact this.

The game is now unfrozen and the turns can once again be advanced.

Countrymen, this has been another stain on our history as we again try to deal with a rogue Senator. Helarionas Anargiros obtain a fleet for his army and with Princess Aleksandra Tagris as hostage fled. The brave Markos ek Sinopis stormed out of the Port of Ragusa in pursuit and was able to catch the traitor Helarionas in the Bari Region of Sicilian Territory.

A battle ensued and our brave Markos was captured. The victorious Anarginos now as two loyal subjects captive. The Basileus is the only one who can immediately end this and bring the Helarionas Anargiros to justice.

Recruitment:

Several settlements received fresh militia and retraining of current regiments. Andreas Dermokaitis has left Belgrade for reassignment to Ragusa. He has taken a small army with him the region of Ragusa has been stripped of men to recruit and is vulnerable at the moment.

Construction:

No new construction several projects completed. the current crisis as drained our treasury for maintenance of armies and no new projects have been commissioned.

Taxation:

We are drawing a large deficit due to the army upkeep. There is concern of the public order in some of our castles who have little or no garrisons. Some merchants were recruited to establish more lucrative trade route to assist with the current deficit.

Diplomacy:

The Sicilians have gained another enemy and are at war with the Moors. The Milanese are at war with the Venetian that could assist with our war effort.

Faction Announcements:

Princess Rosanna Mavrozomis is getting proposals but they are from old worn out men of peasantry stock. They are not even worth discussing with the respective families.

Other then the report of the traitor Helarionas there is some concern on the western front. The Venetians have besieged Zagreb and have poured over our western border with three large armies one heading for the undefended Fortress of Ragusa.

In addition, I have moved Helarionas Anargiros' (YLC) unit of Skythikon into his stack and reset his movement. I have also moved Markos ek Sinopis (TheFlax) out of Helarionas' stack, as he has been released. I also transferred the Mercenary Captain to Helarionas, as per the above post. Report of 1184

I deliver sad news from the west front Zagreb has fallen to the Venetians and the young Aleksios ek Pigis died in the battle to defend the city. That is 2 young men that have fallen in my term against the Venetians. They must feel the wrath of our vengeance.
The outlaw Helarionas Anargiros is still at lareg though he released Markos ek Sinopis.

Recruitment:

The treasury is low and the there were militia units added to some towns for garrison duty.

Construction:

No new projects initiated.

Taxation:

We are at a very small deficit and the spending is very being frugal at the moment.

Diplomacy:

No new issues

Faction Announcement:

Evamthios Komnenos has come of age.

Hot Issues:

Zagreb has fallen to the Venetians and they seem to be satisfied with this at the moment. The army marching to Ragusa returned to their border.

Damascus has been besieged by the Sultanate. More men were added the garrison but I don't know how long the city will hold.

Military Campaigns:

The Venetian advance is a set back but with the control of Ragusa we should be able to respond.

Certainly, likely for the next couple days. I plan on making this first turn a bit longer than the ones after it. I need some time to look things over, send some pms asking permission to shuffle troops around, etc. None of that will require me to take the save.

It makes it a bit harder that my next two days are busy. Just found out I'll be spending Friday night (when I initially planned to take the save) riding around in a police car with a full-time deputy. Once I get back from that (possibly in the wee hours of the morning) I'll grab the save and move things through. :2thumbsup:

1185 Megas' Report

Military Affairs:

There was one more battle last year, with Andronikos Komnenos chasing a rather cowardly Turkish prince.

There was some disbanding this year, most notably of the broken and defeated soldiers who have been hiding from the Latins off the coast of Venice for many years. This is expected to save us well over 1,000 in upkeep.

I've decided that the first half of my term will be more focused on military affairs, specifically bringing the Venetian and Turkish wars to a swift end. Money brought home by our soldiers from foreign settlements will be used to build some of the settlement upgrades that make their necessity felt more every year.

While some needless troops were disbanded, overall our military has increased somewhat. Units were recruited at Corinth for House Asteri's Ammonathas to take to complete his army. I will likely also be recruiting a few units for my army, which I plan to take to the Venetian front. There was also recruitment on our borders with the Latins at Belgrade and Ragusa, and I understand Senator Andreas is moving to Ragusa, which will bring its garrison up even further.

Troops were also recruited for the Turkish front, both in Adronikos' territory where there have been incursions by the Muslims, and also at Acre, the latter of which I hope will join Senator Theo as the Levant is sorely lacking in armies at the front, the consequences of which will be revealed at the end of my report. Lastly, there were some garrison increases as per request.

Building:

Several economic building have been started, and a larger barracks prioritized by House Asteri is also under development. A fort has been built for Senator Theo to serve as a base from which to attack the Turks.

Miscellaneous:

Senator Kousinos has been adopted into one of the branches of the Royal Family. The rebel Methodios' territory has seen riots at Alexandria and Cairo, but these seem to have been expected as both settlements already had their military forces evacuated. He has also had better news in that his son has been declared King of Jerusalem.

A witch has been burned south of Tbilisi and some merchants have been rearranged to increase profits.

Rosanna Mavrozomis has received a marriage offer from a very reputable young man. I leave it to her family whether to accept.

The rebel Helarionas remains at large, but with the Emperor's blessing for his marriage I do not forsee that as a huge concern for the Empire at this moment.

I have saved the most troubling news for last. A large army of Turks last year assaulted the settlement for Damascus. The garrison was swiftly overrun. The vile Turks exterminated every Christian they could find, starting with women and children. The Turks must pay for this horrendous deed.

This occurrence need not have happened. The Levant has had no shortage of troops in past years, but they have not been utilized often. Gone are the glory days of the great leader Makedonios, but those days can return. I will throw my support behind Senator Theo, who has attempted to stem the tide of Turkish invaders. I also hope that Senator Adronikos will be able to come upon the Turks from the north, although this will be many years from now since he is far away and still gathering forces.

We do have two more very large armies in the area with quite capable leaders. I ask Senators Kousinos and Erotikos to move east to defeat the Turks. Even if Senator Erotikos feels constrained by his conflict with Senator Theo Petzeas I understand Senator Kousinos to be an Order member. The Order is in danger and every general in the area is needed.

OOC: I hope I got this report thing right. I tried to do everything asked of me. If I've forgotten anything I apologize.

The save is now open. There is a chance I will be distracted with a take home test I have tomorrow night, but I would still like everyone to be prepared for the save to be taken at 1:40 PST Tuesday Night.

One issue from the turn is that Methodios' son's new title severely lowers his loyalty. There is some risk of his rebelling (his loyalty is down to one). :sweatdrop:

That province belongs to Methodios himself, not his son. It should be given to Methodios himself, which should be easy since they're in the same stack. Since Methodios already has maxed loyalty (ironic), the drop from the Jerusalem title shouldn't make any difference to him.

The turn may not be ended until this is resolved, nor may either of the above players make any further moves. However, Marcus Agrippa has not been online in 2 days and has not posted anywhere on the Org in the last 2 months. Due to this inactivity, I am not going to be too lenient on the time limits. I'm going to render nothing more than a personal opinion here, but this forced PvP battle appears in conflict with rule 5.1. It states that once you declare war on an opponent, that player can have one free turn of movement. IC, if I'm Andreas, I'm running for Ragusa and force a siege.

It would seem to me that since Helarionas has only now officially joined the Tagaris rebellion, his declaration of war is only effective at the start of this turn, and by Rule 5.1 should allow Andreas (whoever controls his avatar) to have his free move. My :2cents:

If nothing else, I would just ask for a clarification on when the declaration of war on the part of Helarionas took effect so that I have a clearer understanding of the rules.

You're entirely correct. I simply added YLC to the Tagarian Rebellion civil war, then later looked and saw that he was at war with Marcus Agrippa and went from there. I erred by forgetting that he had just now become a rebel. Under the new rules for rebels, when a person becomes a rebel they make the declaration of war:

Penalties:
(1) When this rank is obtained, the Rebel is considered to have made an automatic declaration of war against all Senators who are still part of the Empire. Rebels cannot make Peace Treaties.

This means that YLC just declared war on Marcus Agrippa this turn. Thus, under 5.1, Marcus Agrippa can attack YLC this turn, but YLC cannot attack Marcus Agrippa until next turn. Thank you for pointing out this error. The above battle is now CANCELLED unless Marcus Agrippa appears and states that he wants to fight it. The game may proceed as normal, and the turn may be ended whenever the Megas wishes. YLC may not attack anyone except the Basileus this turn, as the other two people he was at war with are now (ironically) his allies.

(Yes, this game is now so complex that even I have difficulty remembering all the rules all the time.)

1186-1187 Megas' Report

Military Affairs:

There was some further recruitment these past years, mostly low level militia for some garrisons, plus the topping off of my army and some requested troops in castle's in the east and Anatolia. Andronikos is now ready to march south against the Turks, and I hope Senator Theo picks up troops from Acre for his own eastern battles. Ammonathas and I stand ready to battle rebels and Latins in the west.

Economic:

Here things are more dire. Imperial administrators vastly underestimated the amount of florins that would be brought in this last year, counting income from rebel settlements. As a result the Empire finds itself in some debt. I will cut costs as much as possible to fix this, and with the income soon to be received from retaking Damascus as well as other Venetian and Turkish settlements I expect us to be back in the black shortly.

The administrators that gave me incorrect figures have been hung for their incompetence.

The Rebellion:

Fortunes seem to have turned against the rebels somewhat this year. The settlements of Cairo and Alexandria rebelled against Methodios, perhaps in hope of creating a new Egyptian state.

Meanwhile Helarionas has been evaded by Senator Andreas. Andreas knew his tiny army stood no chance against the traitor without needed reinforcements from Ragusa. With the help of some local scouts, he managed to make his way around Helarionas without the latter even noticing. Reaching the shore, the guards Helarionas used to protect his fleet were quickly overpowered. Those ships not needed were set alight, while the rest were taken out to sea beyond the rebel's reach. God's favor obviously shined on those loyal to the Komneni this season.

The Save:

https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=199&id=4514

OOC: This was checked with TinCow. Rossahh has permission to move Andreas but can't play LotR on his comp right now. TinCow oked me doing the move for Rossahh. And since ships left ashore out of a port belong to the Megas, even if it's a rebel that left them...

Sorry for the sad state of our finances. I had forgotten how big a hit losing those Egyptian settlements would be. :sweatdrop:

Oh, I received an adoption offer. Mistakenly thinking it was the offer for Rosanna Mavrozomis, I accepted. Turns out it was another for Ioannis Kantakouzinos. Good avatar, spawned near Alexandria (or in and was ejected during the uprising). If Tristan can lure a new player he'd have a new rebel in a good position. Otherwise I'll talk to TinCow. The Avatar "took" the recently evacuated garrison of Alexandria, so it would have to be moved so Tristan can keep control.

Tristan's previous action included an attack on an HRE stack, resulting in a declaration of war. He does not have the power to do this, as he is only a Rebel. Under the new secession system, the rank of Independent Ruler must be achieved before the power to make a declaration of war is gained. For reasons that have been discussed numerous times before, this is not a rule I'm willing to bend.

Thus, Tristan's last save is not valid and the current save is this one (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=199&id=4523).

Apologies to all, but I am going to have to invalidate the save yet again. The most recent turn advancement is causing problems, so I am going to have to undo it. This is my error. I thought I had asked Zim not to move it until the situation was resolved. Having checked my PMs, I have noticed that I never actually told him this. This is my fault, but the turn still has to be rolled back.

The current save is this one (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=199&id=4529) and the year is still 1188.

1186-1187 Megas' Report

Military:

There was a recruitment freeze these past seasons as funds were insufficient to hire more soldiers. I apologize for my inefficient handling of military recruitment thus far in my term. While I was able to put together effective armies for the wars we are in, I did not account for the drain of rebel armies in Imperial territory confiscating supplies and money for wages, or the loss of Alexandria, Cairo, and Damascus. Worse still Senators Erotikos and Kousinos continue to drain the Imperial coffers while fleeing the beleaguered Levant with armies stolen from the House that guards her. Every drop of blood lost in Damascus and any other settlements that may fall in the region is on their heads.

As soon as the rebellion officially ends and Erotikos answers as to his intentions I hope to begin some demilitarization to save money. Ideally this would start with the large armies under Erotikos and Kousinos, which serve no purpose wandering around the middle of the Empire far from any front. If that were done I would also reduce my own forces, instead serving under Ammonathas on the Venetian front.

I see little hope of this being done but it is my wish and would be best for the Empire. Rather I suspect Erotikos and his lackey plan on marching on our capital, may God help us.

Economic:

The Imperial economy is in shambles with the loss of so many of it's best cities. Even the merchants seem to be bringing in fewer florins, and we lost one near Antioch this past season. It is my hope that we soon get past this era of rebellion and loss...

General Affairs of the Empire:

I have again saved the worst and momentous news for last. While there was good news in that the rebel scum Methodios Tagaris met his end, it was balanced by the horrendous news of our beloved Basileus Ioannis, son of Alexios Komnenos who forged this Empire, has passed away under somewhat disturbing circumstances. His doctors had said he would soon recover from his scurvy. They appear to have been mistaken...

These are dark times for the Empire. The traitor Methodios' son, Ioannis Tagaris, was named by his father as heir and now stakes a claim to be Basileus. The much worthier Adronikos Komnenos also has a claim to the throne as Caesar. I fear we are lost...

Lisas Attaleiatis (00jebus) - Inactivity
Nikiphoros Manouelitis (Warmaster Horus) - Inactivity
Ioannis Kantakouzinos (Kagemusha) - Inactivity

Queued up 6 RBGs for Tristan in Corinth and Athens.

Taxes in Jerusalem reduced to Very Low to restore it to order (the rebellion is over, so taxes do not have to be artificially high).

Note: Ioannis Komnenos III (Ignoramus) should be teleported to Constantinople, as that was Ignoramus' chosen starting location. However, he is now aboard a boat and I cannot teleport him until he is on land.

Note 2: For anyone not paying attention, the Megas has plunged the Empire into 15000 florins of debt and the Empire is losing a further 5000 florins per turn. This is entirely legal, but I do not think I need to explain the long-term consequences of this.

1191 Megas Report

I am afraid there is not much to report this season. We are even further in debt, but Senator Ammonathas is kind enough to have started marching to the Venetian front. The sacking of their cities will do much to restore our finances. As will the disbanding of armies around the capital, including mine if need be. I did manage to disband many extra armies this last turn, but it only made a dent in the deficit.

There is one order of business before the capital and nearby regions can be demilitarized. Erotikos and his lapdog Kousinos continue to march towards the capital without anything venturing on a sane explanation. I can only assume their intent is not to capture Armatos' killer, but to take the City itself. While I am not yet ready to declare war on him I fully understand Isaakios Komnenos doing so and hope he will serve as a barrier to protect our holy capital. I myself am also marching towards the capital in case they decide to attack it.

There has been no recent recruitment for obvious reasons. At the very least we have stopped bleeding cities like a sieve. I only hope God guides us through these next few years.

I grant the settlements of Nicaea and Dardenellia to the former Emperor's nephew Ioannis Komnenos, as he had charged me before his death.

LOTR-1191-1 (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=199&id=4564)

Moved Isaakios Komnenos' (flyd) fleet 3 tiles north to allow Ioannis Komnenos to get off. This seemed to be the direction flyd was moving anyway, so I don't think this would impact his movement this turn. However, if this movement was not desired, please let me know and I'll figure out a way to get you to whatever point you wanted to reach.

Ioannis Komnenos III (Ignoramus) moved to Constantinople (his chosen starting location). Theodora Tagaris was married to Ioannis Komnenos III. This was ordered by Ignoramus while he was still Basileus, and thus was entirely legal. If Ioannis Komnenos III had been teleported to Constantinople at the proper time, the marriage would have occurred then. These actions this turn were simply implementing these actions which should have been done a couple turns ago.

Killed off the RBGs that Tristan did not take. Tristan's new avatar is still in Corinth and will be teleported to his chosen starting location when that is decided upon.
