If we could, we would destroy the government buildings ourselves. As we cannot we damage them and leave it up to the player. It is considered an exploit not to destroy the government building.

An advantage to destroying those government buildings would be extra cash, though it isn't much

Course if you share the same culture as the existing one, then you lose money by destroying it.

Youo lose money anyway, as even if the government was built by a faction of a different culture you can still use it as if it was your own. However, this is considered to be an exploit regardless of whether it is the same culture or not.

How do you work that out?

Destroying it and building a new one takes time and (more) money than just repairing it.

Yes it's an exploit, but it's a more efficient choice.

So is cheating, doesn't mean its better. Besides as I said, regardless of who built all government buildings (except for nomad ones) can be shared between any faction. If you are a greek faction and you conquer a celtic province with a celtic government you can still use it just like your own. However using it is still considered an exploit.

I know it's an exploit. I know it's "cheating". I was just saying from a pure efficiency viewpoint it's the optimal choice.

Yet you still havent explained why its only more efficient if the government is of the same culture.

No culture penalty, even if it's tiny compared to that produced by the governor's building.

Quintus, Foot has a very valid point, keeping the government of the deposed leadership may be efficient but it is neither ethical, nor historically accurate. When the Romans conquered a Celtic tribe do you think they would allow the same people who fought them to continue to rule completely unmolested by the government back in Rome, no the Romans would appoint a Roman governor, and drive the former ruling class into the dust. So the best and most ethical way to represent this as an EB player is to destroy the old government and replace it with your own government.

I never said it was anything but efficient. As before, yes it's an exploit, yes it's against the spirit of the game, yes it's ahistorical, yes it's unethical. It's underhand, but that doesn't stop it being an optimal use of resources.

How relevant is this discussion? Much ado about nothing.

If I have a lost a city and regain it, I usually try to repair my government. It usually leads to a ctd, but gone when you reload. So i guess it's not something you should be doing.
