View Full Version : Office system for EB?

Atraphoenix

I am planning to extend my mod so as to make more offices for every factions.
IMHO, a cabinet like system did not exist in the time frame of EB but it will be a good idea to add some office like ancillaries, for example Guardian of King, War, finacial etc Advisors, or maybe Secret Service Officer something like that handles "dirty jobs" of the king or chieftain, and of course local governors etc.

My main concern is Roma has already has a trait office sytem so it be a torture for me how to add some offices, but do not you think It would be great to have a "Dictator for Life" ancillary?

Your comments will be aprriciated.

I agree with everything you said! Perhaps some ancillaries to some cities when a character conquers them??

It is easy for me to trigger it :laugh4:
I wish I had choice to add Consuls, Censor etc.
But RTW system does not allow me only additional ones for Rome

It would be nice if offices came with some rhyme or reason that was in the player's control as its kinda just random right now for hte Romans.

No. There were only two people in Rome's history that were given that title; one was Caesar, the other was Sulla. IIRC, the dictatorships throughout the Repubic were mainly only for when Rome was in severe danger, so the trait could possibly be given to a person if the enemy comes within 1-2 provinces of Rome or something like that (at which point, the person should only hold that office for 2 turns), but the dictator for life really only came around in the turmoil of the late Republic. Since EB really isn't able to represent this turmoil, it's best to leave the dictator for life out as well.

I really don't think the Romani need any more offices. They've got pretty much all the ones that the Republic historically had. The others maybe, but definitely not the Romani. -M

I know romani have enough of them, In EB, only Romani and AS have offices, I added some offices for Pahlava in my mod and I am planning to add for barbarian factions and of course for Hellenic factions, too.

But modding, editing, coding the easiest part for me, I should read all of the historical info about government system of other factions, of course most of them had a systematical bureaucracy but even the barbarian factions had their own governing officers as well, that was the missing thing I want to improve.

BTW I should read a lot more to make it historical :book:

P.S. Dictators were chosen in emergencies for 6 months (IIRC) so a one turn ancillary, that is why I am leaving Romani as they are...

2-turn ancillary:yes:

Maion

Yeah, because in EB, each turn is 3 months/1 season, not 6 months like in vanilla.

Also, if we were to do that, the conference of the title of dictator should have some sort of noticeable ingame effect - either all unit prices are cut in half for those two turns, or something of that nature. -M

Because of the fact that it will take hours even days to search just an office especially used by a faction I am indecisive to use English titles or native titles:

for example : unsure about what was the generalissimo of Parthians;

George Rawlinson : The Seven Great Monarchies Of The Ancient Eastern World, Vol 6. (of 7): Parthia

There were probably several grades of rank among the nobles. The highest dignity in the kingdom, next to the Crown, was that of Surena, or "Field-Marshal;" and this position was hereditary in a particular family, which can have stood but a little below the royal house in wealth and consequence. The head of this noble house is stated to have at one time brought into the field as many as 10,000 retainers and slaves, of whom a thousand were heavy-armed. It was his right to place the diadem on the king's brow at his coronation. The other nobles lived for the most part on their domains, but took the field at the head of their retainers in case of war, and in peace sometimes served the offices of satrap, vizier, or royal councillor. The wealth of the class was great; its members were inclined to be turbulent, and, like the barons of the European kingdoms, acted as a constant check and counterpoise to the royal dignity.

I thought that parthians used "Spahbod" or "Spehbod" for chief commander. :dizzy2:

2-turn ancillary:yes:

Maion

Can't be done. Ancillaries in RTW can not be removed from a character via console or script.
And I highly doubt that anyone will start giving that ancillary to another character just to be 'historically accurate'.
This 'Dictator for Life' ancillary could be given to FactionLeader or some character with 7-10 Command and 10 Influence?

Maion Maroneios
02-03-2009, 11:45
Well, I never said it could be done. I just corrected Atraphoenix when he said that it would be a 1-turn ancillary (6 months), because EB runs on a 4-turns-per-year script.

yep, 2 turns if you activate it :laugh4:
If I strictly depend on historical corrections, my mod will be very restricted, mainly for Romani, so what is your ideas, historical but limited offices, no İmperator, Triumvirate or Dictator for Life e.g. or historical but mostly no Romani offices(as you know you cannot strip off offices in RTW engine because I mod ancillaries)?

what do you say?

I say BEAUTIFUL!!! Good job!:2thumbsup:

The only thing that disturbs me is that you have Legio XXI so early in the game. But I presume that it is just a test run and that when complete your mod will assign legion numbers in sequence (I, then II, then III, then ...), will it not?
BTW, IIRC ExRM mod for RTR has rather well developed system of cursus honorum and legion-army ancillaries. You might want to check it for inspiration here (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=189465).

Good luck! :2thumbsup::bow:

my mod did not finished yet of course
I could finished the photoshopping torture only and writing descriptions,
I am checking the where the legions levied and i will code according to it, the problem is legion number system changed very much in Roman history, but my style is ok methinks in republican area, I will change my triggers,

I think legatus legionis enough for Romani for my first release, I should add many for others as well.

your link does not work if you PM me or write the that work's site etc. I will be happy to check :beam:

I can mod it easily, but I did not decide yet wether I will depend on historical accuracy or not...
When I decide it I will open my post in Submods..

Is it possible to have an 'Roman Legion' ancillary to other factions?
I mean, if some your general utterly destroys a Roman Legion where a 1st Cohort is you will receive this ancillary??
If it is I really want to play against Romani!!

Atraphoenix

It is possible. :laugh4:
AFAIK that was a trait was included in vanilla BI. but to convert it to an ancillary, easy job for me.
"Eagle Taker" or smth like that was that trait.

Yep, I remember correctly that is the code of the trait in BI.

it will be splendid if we could add ancillaries the prisoners of war. No chance with any of RTW exes...

P.S. But only Romani can be Lagatus in my mod.
