Are the various hoplite units in EBII going to be able to finally fight as a phalanx?
Because it gets annoying seeing them charge like a rabble of un-organized units when they are clearly spartan hoplites.

This area is still under experimentation.

Did shield wall no work , as a hoplite funtion?

It works, not fully satisfactorily, but it does give acceptable results.
But as I said, the area is still under experimentation, and any answer at this point would be premature and inexact.

Have you guys tried fast attack animation/low lethality? It results in a slow push due to the enemy units being knocked backwards. Though I'm not exactly sure that would work to be honest due to the new animation system in MIITW.:-\.

Well I figure Shield Wall is nice though the AI wont use it and it will result in your whole line breaking apart since units can't be locked.
I sure hope you guys will give the Hoplites something special to show their formation was different. The same for the Iphikratous Hoplitai.

We cannot mod lethality in EBII. The MTW2 engine doesn't have that stat anymore (or at least it is hidden).

Fast attack animation/low attack then since lethality and attack rating goto the same end.

Then could we have a premature and inexact answer ? :beam:

well, EB is more historically accurate, so the Spartans do that.(duuh, the Spartans never used the Phalanx):beam:
Welcome to the board Severus, since I've not seen you here before.
I think you're confusing your phalanxes.
Hoplites did indeed fight in a phalanx formation, but not the Macedonian style pike phalanx. There is plenty of discussion on the two styles on this forum and elsewhere on the net.

I kind of thought he was referring to the well-known documentary about Spartan warfare in 5th century BC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDiUG52ZyHQ).
What about using something like the "Hoplite Density mod" here?

They keep their spears (instead of the generic short pike), and the tighter formations make them look like they're using shieldwall (and fighting in a phalanx instead of individually) without the need of the special ability that the AI has no idea how to use.
TWFanatic's hoplite mod with the short_pike works as well (I wouldn't play EB without TWFanatic's mod before finding the above mod) , though the short pike weapon looks silly compared to EB's spears.
