The wind came from nowhere.
Ringing into existence with the reverberation of a hammer striking doom, it carried the heat of a forge that fashioned hot war and searing death. It came into being in the heart of a lost land, emerging from some strange place between that whis is and that which seeks to be. Angry, it stank of ancient evil, echoing with long forgotten prophecies. In a frenzy the wind spun, swirling out of the void, as if seeking a course, then it seemed to pause, then it blew northward.
The old nurse hummed a simple tune, one handed down from mother to daughter for generations, while she sewed. She paused to glance up from her needlework. Her two small charges lay sleeping, tiny faces serene while they dreamed their tiny dreams. Occasionally fingers would flex or lips would purse in sucking motions, then one of the other would return to quiescence. They were beautiful babies and would grow to be handsome lads, of this the nurse was certain. As men they would haveo nly vague memories of the woman who sat with them this night, but for now they belonged as much to her as their mother, who sat with her husband presiding over a state dinner. Then through the window a strange wind came, chilling her despite its heat. It carried a hint of alien and distroted dissonance in its sound, an evil tune barely perceived. The nurse shivered and looked towards the boys. They became restless, as if ready to wake crying. The nurse hurried to the window and closed the shutters, blocking out the strange and disquiting night air. For a moment it seemed all time held its breath, then, as if with a slight sigh, the breeze died away and the night was calm again. The nurse tightened her shawl about her shoulders and the babies stirred fitfully for another moment, before lapsing into a deep and quiet sleep.

Hello, and welcome to the mafia game based on the First Riftwar. The series of books by Raymond E. Feist provide the backstory of this game.
Rules:
Players vote during the day phase and send in night orders they have (if any) during the night phase. Each phase will last approx. 24 hours. Voting and orders are cut off at the time of the phase ending, so if the day ends at 9:00am, votes on 9:00am count, but those at 9:01 do not. All times will be measured off the host's time, if there is any differences. Players must vote in the format of Vote: Ichigo and if they wish to unvote, Unvote: Ichigo, Vote: Sasaki Kojiro. Voting for abstain and no lynch are not permitted. The host will not, at any stage, provide a tally for the public.
Rules to do with PM's, chatlogs, screenshots and revealing:
Players may quote PM's in the entireity, but may not provide screenshots of any type in thread or private. Chatlogs of any kind are not to be quoted. This includes but is not limited to IRC, javachat, MSN, AIM et al. Players may reveal their role at any time, either by full role reveal with a quoted role PM in thread, or just saying the function or night abilities. At no point may a person reveal in private, only in this public thread.
Players who are dead:
Players who have died are encouraged to continue participating, but may not reveal, allude to or in any way mention their role or abilities. Any mention of this will result in the host asking the player to refrain from posting and having their posts removed by the moderators. Dead players are also not permitted to vote, even in jest, unless overtly obvious that it is fake and does not draw attention.

I used to love those books. I'm probably not in, but just in case I get weak *and* stupid, can you clarify the reveal thing? The only way to reveal anything about your role -- name, night ability, anything -- is publicly? Is that correct? (Excluding any night actions which might reveal your role in some way, of course.)
Yes, the only way to reveal anything about your role and its abilities is public. You may reveal your name to anyone you wish, but it may let them know that you could be person x that they need dead.
Why should you play this game?

So no, you don't need to know anything. Knowledge of the game will not be an advantage, so don't count on what you know if you've read the books. This game is covering 9 books, which probably comes out at around...4000 pages.

I was referencing the first time he used magic, he killed two trolls by making them thrash about and drown in a creek.

Alright, since I've been killed in the first round in the last two games I joined, I want to issue a warning;
If somebody kills me in the first round of this game, my vengeance shall know no end.
In future games, every time I am mafia, I will take my revenge by killing the transgressor in the first round.
When I am not mafia, I shall hound my target until they dance the gallows jig, no matter their role.
I will do this for every single game the transgressor joins; they shall know no peace, no rest, no respite.
I will do this until the end of time, or when I feel the transgressor has learned their lesson.

Basic Breakdown of game:
You will either be from Midkemia or Kelewan.
Midkemia: Generic Fantasy world. Has elves, 'dark' elves (Brotherhood of the Dark Path), trolls, goblins, magicians men, dwarves etc. The 'town' of this world is the Kingdom of the Isles, one of the largest kingdoms, second only to Great Kesh to its south. The 'mafia' are a group of assassins. If you imagine the Kingdom of the Isles as your normal kingdom, all human etc, then Kesh as the 'easterners' from earth, you wouldnt be far off. Desert people, flowing robes, dark skin etc. Kind of England borders Africa. If you arent with the Kingdom of the Isles, you are either anti-town (mafia) or maybe you just hate humans etc.
Kelewan: Houses a Tsurani empire. Humans, but a bit shorter. Imagine feudal Japan (honour, die by my sword etc) then you pretty much have Kelewan. 'town' is everyone really, with a head, a publicly announced Emporer, and the 'mafia' are one of the houses (The Minwanabi)
The two worlds have been connected by a rift (Riftwar, geddit?) and have been at war for nearly a decade. If you are from Midkemia, you want the Tsurani dead, if you are from Kelewan, you want the barbarians of Midkemia dead.

Prince's throne room, Krondor, Western half of the Kingdom of the Isles, Midkemia.
It is Prince Arthura and Princess Anita's wedding ceremony.
Everyone looked at Anita, who was cradled in Arthura's arms as he knelt upon the stones. Her veils and gown were spread out around her and she seemed to white in the late afternoon light, except for the rapidly expanding crimson stain upon her back.
Arthura sat in shcok. He leant forward, elbows on knees, as his eyes stared out into space, unfocused, not seeing any of those with him in the antechamber. He saw only the last minutes of the ceremony, again and again in his mind's eye.
Anita had just pledged her vows, and Arthura was listening to Tully's final blessing. Suddenly she had a strange expression and seemed to stumble, as if shoved hard from behind. He caught her, finding it strange she should fall, for she was so graceful by nature. He tried to think of a witticism that would break the tension, for he knew she would feel embarrassed at stumbling. And she looked so serious, with her eyes wide and her mouth half open as if she wanted to ask some important question. When he heard the first scream, he looked up and saw the man hanging backwards out of the cupola high above the dais. Instantly everything seemed to run together. People were shouting and pointing and Pug was rushing forward, incanting a spell. And Anita couldn't seem to stand, no matter how he tried to help her. Then he saw the blood.

You're implying that part of your role excuses you, that's a weaker version of what mafia do when the hint the have a pro town role to get people off their back without getting counterclaimed by a real role. But in actuality people are very cautious about hinting at their actual role, it's the fake roles that get hinted at with ease of mind.

LG acted extremely suspicious, but ended up being townie. He claimed a pm exchange was fake as well. Turned out the host had accidentally CC'd him and three other townies, making them masons, which explained a lot of things.
I think I'm disappointed with the Kelewan contingent as a whole. You'd think they'd rush for the White_eyes bandwagon almost regardless of whether they thought he was Mafia or not. But almost nobody has.

If White Eyes is truly the king, then he knows the character names of his brothers, aides and confidants. He can reveal those names without revealing identities. At the least, he could get online and get the info from wikipedia, but he has not even done that.
In an earlier post, I requested two characters contact me. Since we can't reveal in PM, that contact would have to contain the disclosure of information that only both sides would know, kid of like putting up a "found diamond ring" poster and making the caller describe it. Now, those characters have not contacted me, and neither has anyone else pretending to be them -- which is surprising -- but my point is that we can get our back stories from the host of this game.....so its possible, although tricky and dangerous, to figure out who your friends and enemies are via PMs and posts simply by posting information that will only be relevant to the concerned parti
I'm not saying that spL1t is a baddy nor confirming that White_eyes is an actual innocent, I just don't feel comfortable with the current situation. By asking spL1t to reveal (which would cause him no harm anyway unless he has something to hide) I hope to gain more infomation about our current situation.
If someone want to throw me a bone about what we are up against, please by all means!

I don't believe he is the king. There are plenty of reasons other than self defense to reveal. He says he knows nothing about his character but the information is easily available from the host. I would have rather voted for Sigurd due to his vote for me with a justification that made absolutely no sense based on what I had already written, but then he would have been tied with the fake king and voting was about to be over.

It's possible. I don't remember the books all *that* well, but I think Pug and Charles are linked in a specific context that excludes a whole lot of possibilities.

hmmm... according to my personal tally White Eyes:D got 5 votes, MRD got 4 and LG got 3.
Someone should double check those numbers. I think we got a shadow voter in our midst - someone who can add 2 votes privately. Hence WE:D and LG was tied.
If that be the case - we need landslide votes to ensure we got to determine who is lynched and who isn't.
Or someone who can lynch someone automatically with their vote.

In addition to this, The Riftwar is the first game to feature a new mechanic of gameplay. This is not revealed, but will be easy to spot once the game begins. To my knowledge, it has not happened anywhere in mafia, and is definately the first game on the .Org that it has happened.

The claim changes my opinion of where my vote should be as it either:
No.1: Warrants an immediate lynch due to the numerous holes in it (Not this case)
No.2: Warrants a grace period for him to verify his story, no sense lynching someone important if it could be helped (Evidently, it still happened :shame:)
