View Full Version : AI factions progress in campaign.
Hi all - I'll get straight to the point.
In every campaign i played, the AI factions behaved in a Similar way:
The Maks get thrown out of Makedonia and starting from Lesbos, they expand east, eat Pontos and star a new Asia-Minor Based Antigonid monarchy (however when I played the Hellenes i made sure to get rid of them completely before they even attacked Pontos).
The Romans never conquer more than Sicily in the south and always move north, but unsuccesfully andeventually they end up stranded in Italy with awar against Aedui and Kart Hadast.
The Aedui eat the Arvernii.
The Ptolemies always destroy the AS (hand to hand with Parthia) and becom number one superpower (until they meet me playing as Baktria, Koinon Hellenon or Romani, that is. I didn't reach them as Lusotannan as yet.)
The Lusotannan remove the Poeni from Iberia.
Saka Rauka destroys Baktria no later than 210 BC.
The Hai expand to the steppes and slowly eat up the Sauromate together with the Getai.
The Sweboz expand to the south and west, caught up in a Stalemate against Aedui (if i play Rome or Lusotannan, the Aedui lose, for obvious reasons).
Q1: How does the AI behave in your campaigns?
Q2: Is there any way to strengthen the Romans, and to make them expand historically? Fighting against them would be quite a challenge.

I think that AI faction progression depends on which faction you play. AI behaves differently each time when I choose different faction. I see a lot of differences between my previous Karthaginian campaigns and my ongoing AS campaign.

It depends on your faction and on the behaviour of the other AI factions. There are however certain tendencies that you have already stated. There are also often surprises.

It is usually a 50 - 50 whether AS becomes the Gray Ddeath or Ptolies become the Yellow Fever. I find usually the Romans kick the Gallic factions and butt heads with Sweboz and Lusos.
You can check the "AI Progression" Thread in the AAR section, with pics (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=101742).
You can use the console to give factions in trouble money and you can DL the mod that makes them expand more historically.

I never saw the romans invade greece and thats a pity. Once as Karthago I conquered epeirus and greece and gave it to the romans and still they rathertried to move their armies to vindobona and massila protect their belongings in greece and lost everything to 2 makedonian fullstackt in 10 rounds... (7 cities)

I've seen them try in my campaign. Not successfully, but a try nonetheless. They sent a half stack into Epeiros proper, but failed to send any support behind it.

In my current campaign, the Romans had a huge elite veteran army in a ship, a 3 gold chevroned 7star general in a ship, which only had 4 units left (quadrireme). They had that army in the ship, almost invaded greece, came back to Patavium, gone back near sparta, and then they were ofcourse sunk by a pontos fleet.
Retards:laugh4:. That army would've raised hell if it landed in greece

He has got a point though the factions movements is always similar, i have never known the romans to expand into greece, spain or corsica, sardin, well anywhere but gaul, they r always overpowered by lustana. AI movements arnet too good i must admit i actually bribe cities to try and shape the globe

I remember a long time ago on an old Eperios game, the Romans landed a decent army just south of Ambrakia. They didn't get very far, seeing as I was Eperios, but if it was just the AI, I bet they would have wiped out Eperios.

*. Actually, the one I feed (add_money, and process_cq, is the Ptolies, and I did some FD to Sauro, Hayasdan, and Pontos... but I didn't touch the Romaioi yet.... maybe later in my campaign, when I see fit to let them comes to my story, I will doing something in FD with them....

257 BC such a great Roman Empire, nice
More importantly Cute Wolf how the Dickens did the Saba get to the coast of the Med and what type of troops do you get there?
I don't really play horsie factions but if you can move over there and get yourself a bit of infantry and money it could all of a sudden become interesting!
Thanks

which faction are you?
check out the lower right corner of the picture.... It's a real spoiler:sweatdrop:
one thing I have noticed is that the AI can sometimes catastrophically fail to garrison it cities well enough.
This will explain why sometimes you see the ai factions swiftly expanding or growing.
e.g in my current campaign epirus were for a considerable time a regional superpower, making considerable inroads into the Maks and getai territory. Then the getai started to push them back. and finally the maks kind of exploded, taking all the KH territories on mainland greece and pushing epirus back to the periphary.
the maks recently declared war on me (i am haysadan and rule asia minor). They have a full stack besieging me in byzanton, but i notice that in their "heartland" of mainland greece most of the cities are poorly defended with 2-4 units.
I intend to exploit this! However i coudl see that a similar situation may arise between two ai factions and that may well explain why the map can seem to change quickly.

Of course BI, in Alex (I also used to play in Alex before being converted to Shieldwall and swimmin bridge battle maniacs), the Romans will run wildly to Iberia (somewhat more historical though), or hacking their ways to meet their Sweboz friends at Baltic sea (if they are not killed by Epeiros though)
