Hey Guys,
In my current campaign (Romani), I playing defensive on Greece. I resisting the temptation to blitz through the Macedonian and Epirotes. I leave 2 general+ there to defend the border and try to make peace with them. 10+ years and still no peace. Those generals who defend gain a lot of command star but now they gain the trait "warmonger".

I want to leave my "old" general in cities and allow younger general to gain command star and morale improvement. With warmonger, those old general will gain restless warmonger if i leave them in cities. >.<

Now my question is how get rid the "warmonger" trait? Do I just put them in cities and they will go away? Or I will have to just live with it? :help:

My suggestion is to not use Roman generals to hold the cities, but Allied generals. Use Type IV governments in captured Greek cities initially, and recruit Hellenic garrison troops, not Roman units.

Only convert captured Greek cities into Roman provinces (Type III or higher governments) once you've captured all of the Greek cities including Pella and Ambrakia.

What is the motivation behind that? Is there a reason to use the same policy as KH conquering Italy?

I suppose the motivation is that historically the romans enacted only indirect influence at first, repeatedly withdrawing their troops from greece after fighting there, until they finally decided to put an end to Macedonia, which in short time led to the annexation of practically the whole region.
In game terms you could say they had some client kingdoms and converted them after conquering all provinces in the vicinity ~;)

To the opening post: Once a warmonger, always a warmonger. Unless you want to use the give_trait cheat.

Never mind then. Thought there was a way to get rid of warmonger.

I have not used cheats before (except once in another game), will not use cheats in EB and never will use cheats in the future (just maybe will not use cheats....).

Now that new to me.

So what do you guys think how I can avoid the warmonger trait in the future? I will probably be defending a lot in my Romani campaign cause I don't want to blitz through everything before I have Marian and maybe Augustan reform if I have the patience. Should I use allied general to defend border cities like what Titus says?

That, or regularly swap generals around. Send one out to defend the border and have him return after a couple of years. That's what the Romans did historically anyway. This also lets you take (part of) his army back home for retraining.

Your generals won't gain as many command stars but there won't be warmongers either.

I think if you fight enough battles with them then they get the "satisfied warmonger" trait.

I'm not sure though.

I can confirm this.

What does satisfy warmonger do? I mean what does it add?

I think it just means that the family member stops getting the restless warmonger trait, leaving only the benefits.

I'm not too sure though.

they will only stay satisfied for some time. afterwards they need battles again. warmongers are like battle-addicted, i do not think you can get rid of it. so what once was you glorious genral, will end as an old, depressive wreck unable to govern a city.

in my experience, warmonger generals, especially the high stared one, are best placed on border cities, with on some occasion, led some raiding party to enslave near enemy settlements, and withdrawn to made them revolt... well, that guy is mad with blood, so give him blood

If that the case, then I guess will make those generals into my permanent war general. For other new and upcoming general, I will turn them into governor and only turn some of them into war general only after the old one are really REALLY old or pass away (it will take a while, since I got 2 to 3 out 4 general that has warmonger trait...).

Raiding parties? That a good idea. I just might do so with my current campaign. I just might give them lots of blood.

Thanks guys ^^

be careful though, your battle hardened generals will most likely have sons that will imitate them, train them as battle generals too to maximize the stars gained!!!

I think it's "sated warmonger" not "satisfied warmonger", and my recollection is that it gives you some modest bonuses and has no negative aspects. I've never seen it reverse back to warmonger once a warmonger has been sated but maybe that depends on the faction. Given that a hostile bordering faction will virtually never make peace, I've usually never had any difficulty helping my warmongers sate their lust for battle.

Why getting rid of it? you prefer your generals to be fattass politician that discuss about philosophy in countless orgies? Warmonger is one of the only trait that makes them real men!

Real men are not something like a beast that only wants to kill. I also don't want my generals to be fat and discuss things all year round. I trying to make those general into something of balance. You know, men who know about becoming a politician and also knows how to become a warrior when the time for war comes.

From my experience I can say it is possible to have a general become neither a supervisor nor a warmonger, but sadly the only advice I can give is not to fight many battles in short time with the same commanding general.

almost impossible when he was near the border of either grey or yellow death, nasty purple, or legion explosion....

look at it that way: if there would be a lot fms who are good warriors and good politicans, what would they need you(meaning the player) for :D
