V&V Saves and Turn-by-Turn Reports

This thread is for the posting of save files, and at the start of every turn the GM will post a report indicating major news in the realm as well as detailing the changes in the player's finances.


1.3 Players whose avatars lead a battle are expected to fight that battle when at all possible. This will involve downloading the save file of the battle, playing it, saving it and then uploading the resulting save file. Uploading the post-battle save must be done within 48 hours of the pre-battle save game being uploaded. If the deadline expires, the battle is auto resolved. If there are multiple generals involved in the battle, the avatar chosen by the computer is considered the leader for all purposes and has the right of first refusal to command the battle. Other avatars in the ‘stack‘, hereby referred to as an ’army’, may substitute if the player of the avatar chosen by the computer is unavailable.


2.2 Cecil XIX oversees each avatar’s finances. At the start of the turn he will list each noble’s property, income and expenditures. At the end of the turn he will tally up the changes each player has made and add the numbers up to determine how much money the faction should start with in the next turn, using the Financial Overview Screen (FOS). If the amount of money the faction has at the beginning of the turn is not what the FOS predicted last turn, the FOS takes precedence and the amount of money in the treasury will be adjusted via console command.


3.5 When players take the save, they must state what actions they took that would affect their property, income or expenditures. This can be announced in the same post where they return the save, or in a PM to the GM if they prefer such information to remain private.

There is currently no civil strife within the reich. During peacetime, each turn lasts 48 hours. During this time, any player can take the save in any order. If the save is currently taken, other players who want to take it must wait until it is returned or six hours have passed since it was taken.

Some questions. 1) I don't have the correct names. My character, for example, is called Phillipp von Kastilien, while some others lack names totally or have the wrong ones also. Is it supposed to be like that?

2) My starting army upkeep (incl. bodyguard) is higher than my starting treasury. I was under the impression we were supposed to be able to afford our army for ten turns? Also, this effectively hinders me from doing anything else but "keeping-up" the army. Once again, is this intended?

Sorry if my questions are stupid, but I'm not all clear on how things are supposed to work, despite reading through the rules.

Well, this is easy, don't even need to mess with the save.

No building, recruitment or anything.

Attacking Raspe again since he neglected to retreat. Pming the next player.

Once again, the Duke of Tyrol finds himself under attack. However, his indecision in not retreating has sown confusion in his ranks. One of his units of spear militia has dispersed into the countryside, deserting his army. If this repeats itself, the rest of his army may follow his example!

Adding to the confusion caused by his failure to retreat, the Duke of Tyrol gave no orders when Prince Henry's army appeared a second time. There was some milling about at first, but when the enemy army appeared over the horizon Duke Ortwinus's army had had enough, and they dispersed into the countryside. This left the Duke at the mercy of his enemy, and he was promptly captured by the Prince.

The battle has been concluded, and the necessary changes have been made to this save file (http://www.mediafire.com/?30wthdp93utzpjt). Turn order has resumed normally, although now that EF's character is captured he can't take his turn.

His herald addressed the garrison of the city as follows:

"Brave men of Saxony, your valour is well-renowned and your courage beyond dispute. Know this that none will think the less of you for laying down your arms and surrendering to me. I come in the name of Heinrich Salian, rightful Kaiser of the Romans, and Duke of Franconia. He has your best interests in heart, and I assure you that should you come over to him you shall be treated well.

I know your sense of loyalty to your duke. Indeed, Duke Magnus is known by the name of "Saxon". But I urge you that your loyalty has been sadly mistreated. Indeed, He led you against the Prince of the Danes, and slew him on the field of battle. Brave indeed, was he, to march boldly into battle. Yet his actions have now brought naught but destruction and devastation upon your lands and families. Even now, your duke cowers from the vengeful Danish king, who is intent on avenging the death of his son. Here (http://www.mediafire.com/?d0b0v2kfw4piv2a) is Tristan's save. I'm posting myself because he wanted to ask me some questions first, and agreed to allow me to do so if it was faster. I'm repeating the answers I gave here incase they are helpful.

1. You cannot recuit soldiers are hire mercenaries when your personal treasury is in the red. This is to mimic that fact that in a single-player campaign you cannot do so when the factions treasury is in the red.

2. When your soldiers are under siege in a PvP war without you, you can have them fight to the death, just as in an SP campaign. This is resolved by having the opposing player attack the settlement in a custom battle against the AI.

3. You can disband your soldiers when they're stuck in a settlement undersiege, just like in an SP Campaign.

I'm glad he asked these questions, as they allow me a illustrate my primary design principal for PvP wars: They function exactly like wars against the AI whereever possible.

Not-quite-incidentally, Duke Magnus has ordered his soldiers in Hamburg to disband and return to thier homes! Without any soldiers in the castle, Duke Hummel's men have automatically entered the settlement! Ignoramus must inform me whether he wishes to occupy, sack or exterminate Hamburg before the end of the turn.

I fear our old friend Zim is gone for good, or at least for a good while. I have had to replace him in the two hotseats I'm hosting. Should we try to do the same here?

Sometime after the end of the emergency diet session, a rash of disasters has struck the reich's nobility!

Magnus von Saxony and his retinue, after taking Thorn, were attacked in the night by residents of the castle town who balked at the prospect of having in enemy in both Kaiser Heinrich and the Kingdom of Poland. Using trickery and numbers, as well as taking advantage the retinue's weariness after fighting while so outnumbered, they slaughtered the retinue while most of them were sleeping. The body of Magnus von Saxony is now interred awaiting judgement, as the denizens of Thorn have invited Kaiser Heinrich into their castle rather than risk his rather by siding with the Poles.

In the south, the long siege of Bern has reached a startling conclusion. The army of Otto von Kassel, having been waiting so long for reinforcements from the Prinz in order to begin the assault, had become lax and weary. The besieged Swiss, never ones to miss such an opportunity seized the initiative by launching a sudden sally in the dead of night. Those few Bavarians that survived have dispersed into the countryside rather than risk being held accountable for their failure.

But the greatest shock was with Prinz Henry. Having captured Ortwinus Raspe, he suddenly seemed to catch his enemies lethargy. It soon became apparent that something was very wrong, and by the time Ortwinus and his retinue died of this plague it was too late. Those in the Prinz's army who tried to flee merely exhausted the life out of themselves quickly, and not long afterwards the rest of the army, and the Prinz, perished as well. Tragically, with so few in this age able to even conceive of a scientific explanation to such a malus, we will likely never know the identity of this plague.

Although the loss of such a large number and soldiers and nobles have left the Reich terribly exposed to the French, the massive debt that most of those nobles had accumulated has died with them. If new men can be found to step into the void, a recovery may go quicker than one might fear. But until then, and with no where else to turn, the people of those displaced lands have placed themselves under the protection of the Imperial Dominion. It will take until the next season for a new administration to be in place though, and until then these lands will neither give or receive money from the Emperor's coffers.

it's a bit of an exploit really (I mean there's no way in real life you'd abandon your defences and rush out of the besieged settlement to save some archers), so he may not want to use it but I just thought I'd try to be helpful and mention it

The Kaiser, as naturally expected, has decisively defeated the French stationed outside of Antwerp in battle. The survivors have retreated to Antwerp, where a token garrison remains. They will be overwhelmed next season. The French King Philippe the Something-or-other has fallen in battle. The Kaiser's armor was unfortunately scratched in a couple of areas.

I give Vaclav Premyslid full permission to use the garrison of Frankfurt in whatever way he sees fit to defeat the current Polish invaders. In recognizance of the recent amendment of the Imperial Charter, I also give Vaclav Premyslid permission to march in the province of Frankfurt with more than just his bodyguard. SOT will be updated to reflect this.

The inhabitants of Frankfurt, upon hearing notice of the Polish army making its way towards them, have turned to God in somewhat greater numbers than normal to see them through this time of troubles (OOC: I recruited a priest).

-edit- OOC: Cecil, I ransomed the French prisoners taken during the battle, and it was accepted. I forgot to take a screenshot of the exact figure, but I believe the total was right around 1,300 florins.

One of the toughest battle I fought of all times... I even thought at one point I would hit "withdraw" to save my avatar... I didn't expect at all to find an army on my path there and could have chosen not to attack at that point but I just had to try... And take whatever consequences...

Finally, it ended in an heroic victory with a battle marker (phew !!)

There will probably be a battle report within the next 24 hours, once I sort out all the screenshots I took. Basically, the Kaiser's army took huge losses clearing the way for Theo's merry band to provide the hammer blow. Recovered a lot of casualties after the fight though, which was a pleasant surprise.

Frankfurt is once again the capital of the Reich. The citizens are so happy to be back under the Kaiser's benevolent thumb that construction of a brothel has already started.

Sir Jens Herden has triumphed, slaughtering all but a few men in the large Hungarians army, and taking only 53 casualties of his own. Of course, we did have a bridge no our side, and they were composed of horse archers, so I think all credit goes to the bridge.
After the battle the turn jumped to the HRE one before I had a chance to save, so I hope that is okay. Here is the HRE save, magdeburg has been besieged.

Having received news of the siege of Marseille in his absence, Lothar (now dubbed the Saint) marches south after enrolling the help of a company of Merc Frankish Knights (thus emptying his purse to the last florin...)

His way is barred first by the French willing to make him pay for his trespass under the walls of Bern (heroic victory on Lothar's part and 1054 florins ransomed). He then continues his ride south to find another mountain pass guarded this time by Milanese spearmen. Though the fight proves costly in German and Frankish lifes, it is considered another heroic victory. Prisoners are once again ransomed for 110 florins... He's now stranded in enemy territory with the remnants of his enrolled mercenaries, at the mercy of the Milanese...

OOC : I have a story in mind that could justify IC Lothar's come-back into the fold... Remains to put it into words...

How I love these mountains battle !! :2thumbsup:

Brief summary of the battle : Deployment was at the top of high gradient slope with the Milanese at the bottom. I kept the mercs as reserve and sent Lothar down alone to try and kill the enemy general.

The mercs lured the spearmen up the slope by feinting a charge and withdrawal.

It left Lothar free to deal with the enemy general unit, until it routed and he got killed. He then pursued the remaining archers while the mercs led the spearmen on a merry chase. After having routed on contact the second archers, Lothar went for the spearmen only to have them finally see the light and come after him. I took no risk and charged the mercs on their rear : instant rout for the first unit, quickly followed by the second...

It didn't even require a tedious charge cycle this time... Gold chevron bodyguard FTW !!

To whom it concerns, the Hungarian King's forces have been harassed by our scouts. We killed 44 of their men, and many brave Turks died this day to bring us this first blood (https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb225/askthepizzaguy/ATPG%20II/0006.png) against the Hungarian scum. Our brave captain escaped capture.

Their horse archers prevented us from inflicting more damage, but seeing as this was only a scouting mission, the pile of dead Hungarians was a nice bonus. The whipped dogs can only begin to comprehend the realm of pain they are about to enter. :evilgrin:

I'm sure you'll get to have some action soon though, the storm approaches, and as always I need more men to plug the dikes.

Damn !!! Once again, I was sure I got my FRAPS running and I have got no screenshots...

Lothar recruited 1 unit of Merc Xbowmen (860 fl.) north of him then recruited one unit of Frankish foot knights (790 fl.) and marched on Genoa.

His advance was stopped by one captain Moreno while the city garrison was in the command of Puccio Rossi, a minor member of the Milanese ruling family. Being a bit deranged, he stormed out of his walls to reinforce his subaltern but got caught in the open and killed.

It was considered an heroic victory once again and a memorial was erected under the city's walls in commemoration of it. "To the valiant people of Germany" can be read upon the stone.

A ransom of 912 florins was refused, leaving the town completely undefended.

In a deathly silence, Lothar marched in. He rounded up every merchant and banker in the city and had them cough up all of their gold. When tallies were finished, there were 4762 florins to be added to Lothar's treasury, now established in Genoa.
