View Full Version : Jirisys' Europa Barbarorum Mega Mod Pack for EB 1.2
Welcome!
Forum members and lurkers alike, Europa Barbarorum fans all.
You may have seen several mod packs, some planned, some made; some good, some buggy, some useless; and many small.
However, You've never seen Mini Mod pack so large, that it must be named Mega Mod Pack. You have now.
One that will completely change the way you play and feel the game, that will upgrade your experience to a whole lot better.
Introducing:
Jirisys' Europa Barbarorum Mega Mod Pack
The 1.1 Alpha version of the JEBMMP is available to be downloaded by anyone. The current build as of this writing (1.1 Alpha Build 2 + Hotfix 1) is a very barebones version that contains many fixes I deemed essential to the mod pack; it is perfectly stable (I have used it personally ever since I developed it, even for video game streaming and multiplayer on EB Online), but contains no enhancing mods at all except for my own ExTSO and the Historical Battles Add-On (which I also deemed indispensable, hence why I added it to the alpha build). With two versions:
Jirisys' Rome: Total War - Europa Barbarorum Mega Mod Pack
Current version is 1.0.2
With 22 Mini Mods, Mega Mods, Fixes and changes included and bug tested to be compatible with each other.

This official EB 1.2 fix adds missing sprites, missing nomad mercenary general recruitment and several EBBS script fixes. This will possibly remove any errors you may have had before. No screenshots (obviously).
Darth Vader's AI Formations v 16.2 for EB. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?90313-AI-Battle-Formation-Mods)
What it does is make the AI get better formations at the start of a battle, with many historically realistic formations. Adapted for EB by Lysander13.

Cute Wolf's Garamantine and Habukoz Scandinavian Fix. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?129129-Cute-Wolf-s-(small)-Models-Fix-for-Garamantine-Gaut-and-Scandinavian-Spearmen-etc)
This mod changes the model of the Garamantine, Gaut and Scandinavian spearmen, so that they use their sharp side of the spears (they used the blunt side, the back).

Jarardo's ForceDiplomacy Minimod. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?80763-Force-Diplomacy-Minimod)
This mini mod (V 1.2) will allow you to force the AI factions to agree to your diplomatic proposals in EB v 1.2
As long as you activate it anyway. Instructions are in the ReadMe contained in your Rome: Total War folder.

Jirisys' Phalanx Mod Reduplication. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?131527-Jirisys-Phalanx-Mod-(Reduplicated))
It modifies the Makedonian and Classical phalanx, the Makedonian phalanxes are now more vulnerable from missiles, they push harder, but it may make them push so hard that they lose formation cohesion. The Classical phalanx now marches without dragging the spears beneath the ground, have shorter, 9 foot spears, keep the formation when charging and fighting, making them push harder, being less lethal to reflect hoplite warfare.
Screenshots from the original creator's thread (Only from the classical phalangites, as the effect for the Makedonian phalangites cannot be shown on images):

New EB Quotes. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?116354-New-Quotes-for-EB-1)
Modifies and adds several new quotes for the transition screen, the old ones have a more expanded source and new ones are great just as well. An official EB AddOn.

Tellos Athenaios' Unnoficial Trivial Script Update. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?123455-Unofficial-Trivial-Script-update&highlight=Unnoficial+Trivial+Script+Update)
I've stumbled on a bug in the ebconfig.xml file shipped with the Trivial Script in the EB 1.1 installer: instead of using -show_err, it uses -show_error.
While I was editing my ebconfig.xml anyway I added a few other options I thought might come in handy:
1.Support for multirun parameter: use it to run multiple instances of EB side by side
2.Support for na parameter: use it to disable all audio from EB
3.Support for ai parameter: use it to let the AI control all factions so you can watch
4.Support for movie_cam parameter: use it for better screenshot capture in replays

It's a modified EDU version for playing the Official (Unofficial) EB Multiplayer and their respective tournaments, to be played with Vartan's Hamachi Network. For more information, visit the EB Online Website (http://ebonline.tk). No Screenshots (Obviously).
Megas Methuselah's Watchtower/Village Mod. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?126943-Watchtower-village-mod)
I think the "barbarian" factions get the coolest watchtowers. They look like little villages, you know? It gives off the appearance of the map being more densely populated. Anyways, I thought, "Why not give all the factions a village for a watchtower, eh? It would look awesome, having more than one settlement per region." So, did is what I did. It's quite simple, to be honest.

Jirisys' Watchtower/Village UI Mod Addition.
(Unlisted Mod). This Mod replaces the regular Watchtower UI from watchtower images to village images to be paired with Megas Methuselah's Watchtower Village Mod.

Centurio Nixalsverdrus' Getting Rid of the Giant Trees Mod. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?112360-Getting-rid-of-the-giant-trees)
I have edited the map_climates.tga file (which determines the vegetation of a tile in the EB main campaign) to get rid of the annoying giant California Redwood Trees. These were loaded into a battle or settlement-on-battlemap-view when the tile in question had the dark green "alpine" colour. To get rid of these, I changed every single tile with this colour to either northern European (dark orange) or lower mountainside (yellow) colour.

Jirisys' Saka Late Cataphract Unit UI Correction. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?128017-Indo-Saka-Bodyguard-Cavalry)
Not a mod in itself, it's a fix, the UI image has a space after the name, which causes the Late Cataphract UI Unit Card Image to be the "generic" one. No screenshots.
Atraphoenix' Realistic Movement Mod. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?116294-Realist-Movement-Mod)
This mod adds realistical movement points to every army, character and navy to be able to move the distance each of them would within three months.

Atraphoenix' Extended Offices Mod. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?112502-Extended-Offices-Mod)
This mod adds ancilliaries to several factions, adds legatus for 35 legions and several satraps or governor ancilliaries. They are a great roleplaying mechanism and add to your faction's governors abilities.

JEBMMP's splash screen for Rome: Total War - Alexander.
Maksimus' Alexander EB Mod. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?94861-ALEXANDER-EB)
This mod gives you the ability to run EB with the Alexander expansion engine. Gives you the ability to fight night battles, the retraining feature is used by the AI, also is the naval invasion and battle flanking and better tactics; it also adds better movement to phalanxes than the one on Rome: Total War. Use the most stable engine of all Rome: Total War expansions.

Jirisys' No Torches for Night Battles (Light Effects Off) Mod.
(Unlisted mod). It provides realism to night battles; the soldiers no longer hold torches and fight, and the light glow (to which the Light effects Off refers) beneath their feet is removed, gives a far better aspects to night battles.

It adds 39 Roma Surrectum Legions to recruit for roleplay purposes and also a great addon for Romani (and non-Romani fans) to be able to battle through the main Roman legions of the marian and imperial era. 13 for marian reforms, 22 for the imperial reforms and two praetorian legions.

It adds a Aquilifer (Eagle carrier (Roman officer, carrier of the Aquila (Eagle Standart))) to the roman first cohorts (and Atraphoenix' Praetorian first cohort).

JEBMMP's splash screen for Rome: Total War - Alexander.Instructions for both the Rome: Total War and the Rome: Total War - Alexander versions are contained either, in the ReadMe file (JRTWEBMMP ReadMe.txt and JRTWAEBMMP ReadMe.txt respectively) in the Installation section. Or within the executable, in the same section in the readme within it.
Unfortunately, this mod is Not Save-Game Compatible, and very likely that newer versions will not be either with the old ones, or on themselves.
Unless expecifically stated, The newer versions will be fully compatible, but you will still need to restart your campaign.
The file is an executable (.exe) and is 113 MB for the Rome: Total War current version (v. 1.0.2) and 148 MB for the Rome: Total War - Alexander current version (v. 1.0.3).
Download links are in the post below, or you can go to the downloads page on my website (https://jebmmp.jorellaf.com/downloads/).
This page will be automatically updated with each new version, so stay tuned to it

There is a serious problem that causes lots and lots of CTDs, it's the New Quotes and a Watchtower Village Mod error I made, they have some issues that cause CTDs, so here is the fix. MUST HAVE. Just extract it into your RTW folder (e.g. D:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War).

I might try this later, looks really impressive! :2thumbsup:
A small n00b question though; Installing this doesn't in some magical way mess with my RTW-exe EB files, non?
Yes it does, you can only play with alex.
I'll try to make an installer for RTW only, today
~Jirisys (and correct some typos, such as screwing up Jarardo's name :clown::shame:)
I would like to ask for Konny's Trait changes mod to be able to be played (with this mod and without CTD before starting a campaign)
And also V.T. Marvin's Spoils of victory.
New Alex version and RTW version is up :D
Not to degrade his work (It's awesome and maybe i'd never be able to do it) but Atraphoenix is very sloppy, he copies all the folder, so I don't have the time (or patience) to eliminate those files not necesary to work and have less file size, so it's a little bit (a lot more) heavy in sizes thanks to his mod's contents)
~Jirisys (I'd like to reccolect many other great mods:grin:)

Dowload Europa Barbarorum Mega Mod Pack v. 1.0 for EB 1.2 © now and get a free pair of stockings!
Limited offer
Seriously though:
I'd dowload it if it wasn't for my Makedonia savegame; along with my EB data file which I've edited, which my Makedonia campaign gaming experience somewhat depends upon.
So fellow orgah members please do try this out, comment etc. Let us not allow jirisys efforts go unnoticed.
Hey there guys, I just created an account here exclusively to comment on this thread! So good job! Now why I did that was to suggest uploading this mod to the Total War Center, it seems that most of the traffic still coming through EB is there and this mod could get a better recognition if more people got at it.
I also wanted to say that I seem to be having some issues with the Alex version. Im redownloading and installing the mod, but I got errors that wouldnt leave about my export descr_buildings file concerning the legions. I even went in to delete all referances from them and then I got errors about a reasorce not being found in the same file. The only other slight minimod I use is the new textures for the battle maps and those are simple graphic swaps not affecting the buildings file at all. Hopefully reinstalling the mod will help, but it was a really wierd thing. I got it to run once, started a campaign and exited jsut to create a new Map.rwm file, and then it crashed on the first loading screen with those errors all other times. Ill check back in if reinstalling doesnt fix it
Ok it turns out that if you even touch the trivial script after this is installed it breaks it. A reinstall of the mod fixes it again though so thats good. Unfrotunatly this mod turns on minimal UI and I have no means of turning it off. I cant stand minimal UI personally and even though it appears to be turned off in ever preferance file I can find in the entire Rome folder, it still is on in EB. A way to fix it would be greatly appreciated as its already off in the trivial script and like I said, I cant even touch that of the game will crash at startup.
Sorry to make three posts in a row, but man... I just started a campaign with this as my only active mod for EB. Movement points are destroyed, like compeltely destroyed. And I dont mean no one has any, every single unit can move MASSIVE distances in a single turn. In fact they get to the edge of their green movement zone (which is already huge) and then they can keep going for nearly 2 times the original giant movement zone. My elephants at the start of the Carthage campaign could walk to Rome in a single turn. My general in Sidon could move within 6 tiles of Babalonia in a single turn. It is the realist movement mod but I NEED a way to turn it off, would installing the backup descr_character text from the mod itself remove it and still be compatible with this? I dont care if realisicly a roman army with fully paved roads could move very far away in a few months, the whole series of Total War tries to balance gameplay with history, and that crushes gameplay completely.
Hello, glad to see you are here, First off, you turn Minimal UI off or on on the preferences.txt in the Rome - Total War\EB\preferences\ folder, in the section MINIMAL_UI=TRUE change it to FALSE.
Second, to turn off the Realistic Movement mod, just go to you descr_character.txt on BOTH EB\Data\ and EB\sp game edu backup and change the line "starting_action_points 260" to "starting_action_points 80" and that's it.
I'll post it on TWCenter right now. Thanks
EDIT: As a side note, I'd recommend not touching any files of a mod without either:
a. Asking to the modder which files you would need to edit and how.
b. Having a very detailed ReadMe on EACH of every single mod (and file modification). Or.
c. Having advanced knowledge of text modding.
It has happened to me, a reason why I can't put some mods in.
~Jirisys (Any other questions?)
Ah thanks a bunch mate. I finally got everything working up to snuff with all changes I wanted. Thanks for the help and more importantly the kickass mod!
You know it, although... I'd recommend using your campaign as a test drive, because more and more versions will come up... Just to taste the awesomeness of this mod, until I stabilize it's development.

Sounds awesome Jirisys. Looking forward to use it later :D

you better. I'm getting tons of CTDs =/. That said, it's a novel addition and a fresh change to the EB experience.
Is there any particular ocurrence to this?
I might check the files right now to see if there's a problem with them, cause they work fine with me :inquisitive:

random ones that happen at the ends of turns....very frequent end of battle CTDs...all annoying and frequent. I'm talking about them happening almost every several minutes/turns. The longest campaign I've managed w/o a CTD thus far is pontos: at around 263 BC
I'm uploading a new version, maybe It will erase some bugs; by the way, do you use the Alex version or the Rome: Total War version?
~Jirisys (Give me the details like you would to the EB Bug reports)
Version 1.01 for JRTWEBMMP and 1.02 for JRTWAEBMMP are up.

Ok I installed the mini-mod pack a while ago, and I put this on top of there, and it seems to work fine except a few CTDS which other people already reported without using the mini-mod pack.
The most frequent CTDs are actually when I'm going INTO a battle though. Could it have something to do with having RS2 environments? Because I do. Other than that, the only CTDs I get are the pretty standard after-battle crashes, which I think everyone probably gets at least every once and a while, and the rare (every 10-20 years) crashes after/before a turn.
I think yes, RS2 env and other texture altering mods most likely cause Pre-Battle CTDs...
I cannot assure the stabily of this, as mods always push the limits of EB to it's max and since EB itself pushes RTW's to the max, then the result is pretty much desktopy:clown:
~Jirisys (However, I assure myself to test compatibility and stability beforehand)
I noticed more CTD's than I remember having with vanilla EB while playing as Rome and Makedonia. Happens most frequently when ending turns or loading a battle.
However, playing as the Casse I cant get past turn 2 without it crashing. It just crashes at any time during turn 2, just on simple things like moving some troops or changing a tax rate.
I've just downloaded the new version and will see if it makes a difference.

Ok, well I installed the update, (1.01) and it works much better, I can sometimes go 15 turns or more without a crash, (which is basically how my game always is) so that's good. However, I think I found a weird bug, that can only have been caused by this. It was roughly 250 B.C., and I find a Carthaginian General named Bisaltes, who was 27 years old at the time. He had the Biography trait of Hamilcar Barca. Now, perhaps Bisaltes is Hamilcar in a devious disguise, because Hamilcar should be about 27 in the time that I am in, however I doubt it. I only mention this here because I know this mod affects quite a few traits, and it is conceivable that some traits got misplaced.
It's working better on the new version as Casse. Haven't crashed so far and it's running smoother. When I played previously I did revert the movement to normal but will keep it in this time and see how it changes things.
By the way I noticed with this new version you've set the preferences.txt to be in minimal UI by default. I think most people who download your mod will find this extremely confusing, as their first experience will be entering battle and no longer having the ability to issue the essential commands that they are used to having on their screens.
Personally I click on the screen to change run speed, take men off battering rams etc and I've never used minimal AI before so basically had to cancel my battle, quit the game and go change the preferences so that I could keep playing. Considering that having minimal AI is a purely cosmetic thing that most people arnet used to I think it's better to have it off by default.

I agree, it can be confusing, but as far as I'm concerned, I never knew minimal AI was an option, now that your mod had it activated, I love it!
And it's fairly easy to use the EB Configuration to switch back.
I just edited several traits, never touched the Biography ones. I'll take a look at the descr_strat.txt to see why that happens.
Thank you, I may release an update sooner than expected if there's a problem.

Yes, I know it's confusing, I'll edit it, anyhow, I think the problem was that AutoSave was turned on, and since saving before a battle is very buggy, this just made a full on destruction of the game. Hope you keep me posted tho

Yes, but I might add it to the recomendations section of the ReadMe, in any case; you could just edit your setting, and backup the preferences file, so that you may replace the one included with the installer.

jiri, I may be misstaken, but your OP earlier said something about the City Mod and Alex.Exe nightbattles being non-compatible. Perhaps it can be included as a RTW.exe only mod?
Yes... Didn't think about it, since at first it was Alexander only

Okay, I have decided to switch my game from RTW.exe to Alexander. Do I need to install Maximus' mod from his thread, and THEN this, or is that mod 100% included in this modpack?
If you mean EAEM, then I might reccomend you don't do it unless you modify the files already present in my mod pack, if you mean the mod where you can simply use the Alex engine to play EB, then It's fully inside.

Ok I DID mean EAEM, I wasn't very clear. I can live without that though, if I can have all these cool mods. It's working fine so far, now that I've been using alex.exe.

Well I have never not gotten after battle CTDs, I just learned to live with them, but they're only about one every 6-7 battles (which still sucks, but whatever EB is too good not to play). But yeah I started noticing mid-turn crashes too now, when I move around the campaign map, it'll randomly crash, and also Nautius, the general near Carrodunum is spawning 10 different copies of himself, and when there's too many I have to send a general to Carrodunum to kill them all with auto_win attacker or my game crashes whenever I scroll over that area. The problems with the campaign map seem to be in central and northern Europe, I haven't noticed any problems with a Hayasdan campaign through all of Persia + Anatolia, but my Arverni Campaign got annoying really quick, and I just had a crash with a new Casse campaign scrolling from Ictis in cornwall to the city north of my starting city. Weird stuff. I have this modpack, RSII battle environments, (they are way too good looking not to use unless I really can't) and I'm using Alex.exe.
I also get a rather rare (once every 20-30 battles) crash when I'm starting a battle, probably because of the battle environments, but I can deal with that. If you think the battle maps could be causing the problems when scrolling over the map, I can re-install without them and see if that helps, but I can't see how that would make a difference.

I'll play a campaign with the arverni or the swebozes and see how it turns out. Maybe it's the RSII env. But I've been moving with and without fog there several times and nothing crashes.

No the crash with the casse was in summer 270, lol. It's probably something wrong on my end, I also use windows 7 64bit so that might have something to do with RTW's instability, a lot of XP games have problems like this on here.
In fact if it can't be fixed I can still play, I barely play Celts anyways, so the only faction I'd really miss out on would be Sweboz, but that's mostly fighting eleutheroi, and their armies always leave the cities with only 2 units, so beating them in the field is pathetically easy, and then I just take the city. I mostly play nomads or easterners/greeks, so I don't really see myself viewing central europe or britain that frequently anyways.

...perhaps my win7 64bit may have a hand in it then.... even so, it's a nice mod, and I am loathed to not be able to play it due to frequent CTDs.

I got the crash, on Africa, not the baltic.
Maybe It has something to do with the RS2 env?
I guess the problem is if you use the Continue Campaign button instead of loading the campaign. Or maybe 2 years, 8 turns.
Well no CTDs until the end, when I tried to exit the game. Maybe aerial map changes are too heavy and it makes it crash. I'll try without the RS textures.

I got rid of the RS II BATTLE environments, and just have the aerial RSII map, and I haven't crashed when scrolling around Germany yet, at 255B.C. with Sweboz. And my battle crashes are way down, to once every 10 battles or so, instead of like once every 5 or less.
Maybe the RSII battle maps are incompatible, or just too much strain going from them to the campaign map/vice versa, since with the RSII battle maps I was also getting crashes before battles, and I don't without them, only after.
I noticed a possible problem with traits, not sure if it's caused by this but a lot of umlauted/accented/rarely used (like þ, ð and ö) letters are just question marks instead, but about 10 minutes in the export_VnVs file finding and replacing missing letters fixed it right up.
Wierd, I used the original Alex EB eV.txt Do you have a copy I could see?

Just to mention something we've found with RS2....if you use something called a Large Address Aware patch which I can't include more information about but is available if you google it, we've found that we get no CTDs (unless the campaign is running for a long long time without reloading) which tells me that the battlemap environments are more resource hungry (which we know anyway) and that RTW doesn't interact very well with the operating system when more memory resources are required.

Hi,
got a strange problem with this modpack together with the CityMod.
You all know the City Mod. I changed the descr_regions.txt so that Capua can become "huge" for MoT.
After that, deleting the map.rwm to get the change to work, i wanted to load my savegame (or start a new campaign), but what follows is a CTD.
I changed the descr_regions.txt back to default, deleting map.rwm, and everything's fine.
Never had this behaviour before. Why is a correct change of the descr_regions.txt causing a CTD?
Another suggestion: What about making an install-progress where you can decide which mod you want and which not.

Hi just wanted to say great mod compilation.
But I was also wondering how do i use the romani in custom battles? When using unmodded EB i would use the multiplayer shortcut and then the hastati, principes etc would be available. But atm all i can use are the mercenary units. Any ideas?

Replace the Export_Descr_unit.txt in the EB\Data\ folder with the one in the EB\mp game edu backup\ folder and when you're done, replace the one on the EB\Data with the one from EB\sp game edu backup\

Wow that was quick, Thanks :)
Unfortunatly that didn't work. I got an error on startup, saying that there was an unknown unit legio I. If there is no fix for this its not the end of the world or anything I can still play the campaign.
Oh! I know the problem... I think... You installed 1.03 the first time or after 1.02?
~Jirisys ()
I installed 1.03 for alex.exe on a fresh install of eb 1.2.
Then I might need to modify the multiplayer part... :sorry:
~Jirisys (However it will be a loooong, loooooooong time)
I'll make a seperate install for custom battles and multiplayer until its fixed. Thanks for the help
Just curious, but would it be possible to add a checklist for which mods we'd like to install when we run the installer? I think the sheer amount of added material is messing with my game, causing CTDs far more frequently than they used to happen (mostly before or after battles and when I try to load a savegame). I would like to experiment with which files are installed without having to take the time to DL every single minimod.
I haven't tried installing this on top of a clean install yet. I installed over Lz3's mini-mod pack so that could be the issue, but idk.

Lol, do you think it would work with BI too? Although I probably shouldn't try, EB never works when I install BI in there.

I don't know, try using the RTW pack on BI, Since it's the same files it SHOULD in theory work.
~Jirisys ()
well every time I try installing EB at the same time I have BI installed, it instantly CTDs before the main loading screen comes up. So something's wrong with one of the two, and idc which lol. So I'll test the main, clean RTW.exe I just installed last night (with a nice bit of panicking because my disc wouldn't work) and see what happens.
EDIT: Seems stable so far. I had a bit of a rage attack when I tried playing out a battle as the Casse and the game froze. But the Makedones are a good substitute :D
Sounds like a great pack mate! Great job! I've been looking for something like this, to simplify the setup. I'll give it a try right now

Got a crash in 251 BC on Lustonnan's turn. Lots of units including all horses don't properly work unless the graphics are set to "low". I'm not sure if this is caused by the mod but any tips?
Edit:Used FD to take every single Luso city, it ceased crashing on their turn but then it crashed on the Eleutheroi's turn.
Hmm, I like that the pack puts all the mods together, but after playing for almost 2 weeks, I am very dissapointed by the number of CTDs after battles. Basically every second battle will have a CTD which is far more often than the vanilla EB, based on my previous experience. There are quite a few CTDs before starting battles or when loading, but not as many. I am using Alex and playing with Romani in VH/H. Any suggestions?!

No, I think you might have a corrupted EB install because it works fine on mine and it doesn't alter neither horse models or their skins.
It's not my fault, most likely an Eleutheroi city is revolting and it causes the CTDs... It happens sometimes with EB, there is a link on bovi (bovi? I think it's bovi's) signature on how to resolve it.

Yes, it is a problem with mods, you can either have some possible solutions:
Run EB alone without any background program, play it windowed, play with the campaign map zoomed out, set core afinity to any other core (task manager, proceses, right click, set affinity, unmark your first CPU)
Also, buy more memory. I have the same problem too but I have to swallow it sadly.

It turned out the Eleutheroi's turn crash was caused by "Nautius" constantly responding in around Eburonum because there were two Casse armies just standing around in the area without attacking or going away, so I had to bribe them, conquer the settlement, kill Nautius 2 and 3, and give the settlement to Aedui. Then about 5 turns later it crashed on Sweboz's turn and I gave up and made a new campaign.
I don't think the horse or Pezhetaroi skins are because of a bad install because on low and medium horses appear and at low the pezhetaroi appear. I'm guessing it has something to do with shadows or anti-aliasing, so I'll have to look at that. Oddly it works perfectly on Medieval Total war, not sure about Vanilla RTW.
Anyway, I only posted here because while I was pretty sure it was an EB thing(the crash was confirmed to be that) I thought I should post here because my version was modded with yours and the bug report people wouldn't take it.
Edit:Now I'm having a very odd bug that's only happened in recent turns. If I hover the CURSOR over the Alexandria-Margiane and Baktra border the game randomly crashes. Could this be related to the lack of borders?
Edit:2 This doesn't seem to happen anymore...odd.
Qn Jirisy,
I think everything is working (since I get the increased movement and new splash screen ( :) ) but when do the new ancilliaries appear (eg for KH?).
Thanks

It should only take a few turns, that's all it took for me.
Jirsys, I decided to try your Mega Mod Pack for EB 1.2 for RTW Alexander. Wow, Atraphoenix' Realistic Movement Mod really speeds up the game. But I have some issues technical and game-play.
1. Can't launch the game with the Trivial Script links as it seems to be looking for the RTW executable as with the Alexander CD loaded it's saying it's not the right CD. Any idea how to fix this?
So I'm running the game by a direct executable link.
Running a KH campaign and it's Summer 270 BC and I've blitzed around the Aegean Sea and taken Krete, Peloponnesos, Thessalia, Makedonia, Odrysai, and Chersonesos Thrakia. Pontos didn't like that last one and I couldn't get them to agree to a ceasefire (unlike the many ceasefires over their attacking Sinope and Trapezous, which I milked for 1000's of mnai), so I finished the season by taking Bithynia from them. (Should have passed up Byzantion and killed off Makedonia by grabbing Lesbos.) Starting to run out of rope taking 7 provinces in 10 turns.
2. I allied with Eperios who have spread up into Illyria, taking Dardanoia and Dalmatia and are currently eying Thraikia Hypertera and Scorcouw. I expect them to come to blows with Getai. Normally it takes longer for Eperios to grab this much real estate. Is it Pyrrhos and Atraphoenix' Realistic Movement Mod or my alliance with them or both?

Both, wait till you see the sauromatae or hayasdan come to action. Also the fact that they are not wasting resources with a war against makedonia. My main powers in my game are Pontos, Hayasdan, Sauromatae, AS as usual, and Pahlava/Saka.

Hi Jirisys,

First impressions after playing a bit with ALX.exe and the ALX MEGA pack :
It seems that the game is much more unstable than before ( RTW with EB 1.2 on ) , I had frequent CTD's , including the well known after battle CTD and new , seemingly random ( to me at least ) , CTD's on the campaign map .
The order I installed the files was :
Total War Gold
Alx add-on
EB1.1
EB1.2
MEGA pack for Alx
If there's anythings specific I can do for you , concerning playtesting , let me know , I won't mind for a bit I guess . I should inform you that I have no modding knowledge and/or computer skills so I can't really say I'd be useful .
Still , it's a nice initiative of your part , keep up the good work mate .

I wouldn't bet my life on it, though look on the bright side, when you should be working, frustrating yourself with the crashes makes you get to your job more quickly :laugh4:
~Jirisys ()
Heh , ditto .
Let's hope that eventually a more stable version will come up , since I do believe that most of the contents of the MEGA pack are more than a welcome addition to the supreme mod that EB is .
Again , thank you for the time you put into this .
Cheers .

About the CTDs when scrolling: it happens when you pass the cursor over rebel "towers". You have one such near casse in the province of modern Wales if I am not mistaken. Just conquer it quickly and the crashes will stop. Also you have one such near Kangha with Baktria.
Also how to get rid of the floating banners on the battlefield. It annoys me a lot. I tried to change the preferences file to false, but did not work.

Hi Jirisys,
The post battle CTD is a real PITA. My error reads in part (when you check the details screen in the error report) "offset 00acae67". No idea what it means but it is the same error I get when I get the occasional pre-battle CTD. Maybe a Windows guru can explain it! I am using potatoheads suggestion regarding setting core affinity and as you sugggested in that post, using core 1 instead of core 0. I am also using the large address aware extension for the RTW-Alex exe file and 3Gig switch for my Windows xp sp 3 system. I have 4G RAM. FWIW I think your Mod is great - that's why I am persevereing with it :) but the CTDs are still a real problem.

It has it, but only the water. Texture is fine. Battlemap is too ustable, crashes every 3 battles
~Jirisys ()
Hi Jirisy,
I went back to no Large address aware and no 3Gig switch and this greatly reduced my post battle CTDs. Still getting a few pre-battle and other random ones. Especially noticeable is the CTD on clicling "Continue campaign"...
Having said that I really like the mod :balloon2: so if you have any ideas about some of these CTDs please let me know and I can test therm.

Hello I like the mod, and it seems to run alot smoother than regular EB does. But there is something weird going on with the eleutheroi AI. Most of the Eleutheroi cities appear to empty themselves of their armies leaving the general unit alone and walk around the countryside. This makes expansion occur way to fast.
I was playing as Macedon and after destroying the Koinon Hellenon I made peace and alliance with Epirus. Immediately they blitzed through Eastern Europe, I saw Pyrrhus besieging Ak-ink alone, versus the Barbarian general. He won and by now I think Epirus is bordering the Boii, who for some odd reason don't have a deathstack that I can see. The Getai expanded straight north and took Bastarnoz very early. When I started expanding north the Eleutheroi had a few weak armies wandering leaderless and I could quickly conquer all the cities in about three turns.

Yep, this happened to me too when I had this installed. I recently had to completely re-install EB, and it doesn't happen now that I don't have this modpack installed. Some mod is/was making all the Eleutheroi armies wander around with only one unit left inside the cities.

Hello,
1. I just downloaded the mod and it runned fine firstly, but then i had several CTDs. I have read about this in first pages and i saw that you are working to fix that. It happends to me sometimes when I try to load Autosaved savegames, and also before and after battles(playing Makedon and Romani).
2. I dont know if it has something to do with that, but I installed Rome + BI + 1.5 + EB1.1 + EB1.2 + Megamod, so no wrong steps right?
3. I also read about minimal AI, what does it change during game? I dont understand it(sorry) :wall: .
4. Did you modify the mining income thing? I feel like Im earning so much less
Thanks for trying to solve this
Anyway, nice mod :crown:, I really liked the movement points increasement, and the trait changes(get some stars of command in H or VH difficulty, and the baktria thing you explain on description).
It would be insane if you could make AI to recruit more cavalry, because when I fight them, its armies are like 15 infantry 1 cavarly(general) most of the times.

Well, I have a 12 turn per year script implemented in my own JAEBMMP game (without the realistic movement ofc) and it makes the game a lot better. PM me if you want it

Hey there Jirisys! First of all I would like to thank you for upgrading my already great EB experience with these fine mods, besides a small movement bug (my diplomats could traverse all that way from Baktria to Alexandria in about 3 turn ... :D) I recieved no CTDs, and upgraded the overall experience. Now onto the matter at hand: I enjoy EB: Alex with this mod alot due to the better battles (in my opinion) vs BI which has ofc the advantage of night battles, and the AI seems to prefer naval invasions (which is very intresting regarding a Rome vs Karthadast war some 15 years into the game with Karthadast transporting 4-5-6 half stacks of troops to my defenseless main cities [due to the legions conquering Illyria and Massalia, coastline of Iberia]), however when playing with Alex the AI exhibits small to none intrests in landing armies in my homeland, whilst fighting my main armies on their colonial turf, this factor reduces the challenge Karthadast gives early on to the Romanii in my opinion. Is there by chance a way to make this mod work with BI? (I have seen that you wrote no mod is being planned for BI being so RTW and BI have much in common) however, is there perhaps a way to make it work with BI regardless of CTD spams? Which I am willing to risk, just to enjoy the great work you and your modding collegues have exhibited.
Thanks in advance:

Well you could. Simply install the RTW (not alex) mod. Make a shortcut for BI with the mod (like the alex shortcut) and that's it.
Now that the shieldwall ability is in BI; I reccomend you edit the EDU adding it to the hoplites and whatnot.

I have, out of curiosity instantly ended the turns for 15 years the result is that Karthadast has now taken all of Macedon, and is planing on taking Byzantium, (having an alliance with KH)) ;= due to these events, I think I shall for the sake of save file compatability play this intresting episode of fictional history.

Just wanted to tell you how much I've enjoyed your mod. I've had one of the most fufilling Epirus campaigns in a long time.
For instance I was able to maintain peace with the Getai for nearly 90 years, while sharing borders with them at several places. Only after my armies had conquered as far as Persepolis did they attempt to backstab me. I very regretful backstabbing I might add.
Also something very strange (and awesome) happened to me in the Anatolia area. I had been at war with the Ptolemies for quite sometime, they had a strong presence in the southern part, while Pontos controlled most of the middle. After declaring war on Pontos I was surprised to see Armenia send a FULL stack to declare war on me near Nikaia. They marched through Pontic lands either to honor they're alliance to the Ptolemies or to stop me from picking on they're neighbors. Either way I had oh @#$% moment which is very nice.
I was so excited I saved pictures if anyone is interested!!! haha
The only problem I have with this mod is the additional movement points that everyone has. I find that it is far easier for the player to take advantage of this than the silly AI can. Whereas I can attack cities deep in enemy territory, the AI it seems will always march to my closest city, wasting the potential they have. Anyway its something that I've easily changed back and I do understand the realism that is intended.
Also I do not find the crashes is this mod to be much worse than an unmodded EB. I even play with the RS2 battle environments added in myself. Patience is a virtue and requirement for this game anyway, regardless of the mods added.
Thanks so much for your awesome mod and the same to all the creators of the mods you included. Keep up the excellent work.
You can, just ask me for my 12 tpy mod, which has original movement but with added turns. Too fun for blitzers though.
Or you can just simply go to \EB\Data\descr_characters\; and in the beggining you will find something related to movement points that has 260 as value, just change it to 80 and that's it.
However with both methods, you need to restart your campaign for it to work.

~Jirisys ()
Jirisys, your tip about running it in Window mode has reduced the CTDs AFTER the battles by 5x at least, I would say! It did not solve much of the CTDs BEFORE battles. But it makes the game run slower. I have 4 GB of RAM. Do I really need more? Now the affinity part, can you explain that? What is that setting really doing? Should I change it only for the EB/Rome process?
Thanks!

Well, then your video card is not that good. I have the same 4GB and cruddy gpu. Well. Go to task manager, processes, right click on Alex.exe or RTW.exe (whichever you use), then go to the "Set Affinity" option, and uncheck Core0 if you have 2 cores.
Only the EB/Rome process. It helps to reduce memory leaks, but it will run slower.

Hey man, first off let me say that this mod pack look quite epic, unfortunatly it doesn't seem to work for me.
I have RTW 1.5 with EB 1.1 then EB 1.2, I then download your RTW.exe mod pack and install it, I then play the game and absolutly nothing appears to have changed, it's just the same old 1.2 EB
Have I done something wrong?
That's weird. I will look on to it.

It is due to the increased movement- they slave faction tries to combine all its armies together, even if it means abandoning all their cities. They are more likely to try this kind of stunt if it is possible to reach multiple settlements in one turn, the AI generally doesn't like to make moves that would take more than one turn to complete.
Forget every I have said about this not working, I am just a silly, silly person.

While it may look weird IMHO it makes the game more interesting: Less sieges and more field battles =)
Btw, jirisys, some time ago you talked about implementing the victory conditions submod in your pack, have you dropped the idea? Does it realy works? I would be nice to see ai rome not completely ignoring italy and sicily for once.....

I should also remove siege equipment, it's so unrealistic.
Ah yes, I was in the process of it, recoloring the VC ingame maps while listening to Les Luthiers, but I lost the files when I deleted an RTW install. So I got annoyed and dropped the whole thing.
They do work, albeit to an extent. I was looking at how to make the mods choosable, instead of just installing them all, so I can add my 12 tpy script and traits, but also add city mod if you're not using alexander, etc.
So if I decide to work on an update, I'll do it from scratch, and it will be awesomer and stabler.

You probably forgot to ask me about this. I released my sub-mod compilation pack a while before you released yours and although mine is modest, I try to give people options by allowing them to choose at install-time which mods they wish to install. It's a good idea that Paul D brings up so if you still want (both Paul D and Jirisys) I won't mind setting up the proper installation code for you guys, when I have time, obviously.
Hello.
I thank you all for your kind support with this pack, I know it is very buggy and annoying to install but no worries.
Right now, I am currently creating a new one from scratch, with all of these mods, and even more. Including:
Victory Conditions (with accurate maps!).
City mod.
Allied Legions.
Traits and Ancillaries fixes.
EB Online 2.1 EDU. (Waiting for the 3.0)
A trivial script configuration that lets you start even from BI or Alexander automatically!
Grammar corrections.
Some Unit image changes (adding a small image to denote Mercenaries and AOR).
light_spear bonus corrections.
12 Turn per year script.
6 Turn per year script.
My EB intros.
RSII Environements.
Trait changes (cursus honorum).
And... To top it off, you will get to choose which mods you want to have!
Of course this will be a long process since I plan to pack all the different file versions for every mod combination (that overlaps of course) and using NSIS to make the installer.
So of course, it will be a hard process to make all these changes, and my ability with NSIS script is very small. So I would be glad if anyone with experience modding would help ease up the process a bit. I plan on releasing the pack no sooner than January, or even February. I will have to buy a video card in order to re-make my intros with higher quality, so they will look even better.
Nonetheless, if no one is able or wants to ease the payload a bit, I will still keep on giving you what I find and helping your EB experience renew itself once more.
Regards.

The more submods you have the more CTDs you get good luck....
I know, that's why I'll let people be able to choose now which mods they want .
Also, there's a difference between altering a few images and changing a few scripts, and altering the environments. That's why I'll do all the changes by hand for those big mods. Besides, I'll bug test it more than I did last time.
Some mods might not be compatible with each other, so if one is selected, the other cannot be selected.

Ah, multiplayer. That's my department. If you wish to play online, you must revert to original formations. If you don't, you'll get desynchronization errors.
EDIT: Wanted to mention that you can play online with a formation mod only if your opponent uses the same formation mod. Our online community as of yet uses the original formations. This is because we don't need formations (since we don't use group+formation buttons, and we don't face computers).

I love the mod, not so much the CTD's. The quick movement is awesome, I've never found a reason to dislike it the AI has not done any wierdness with it of note in my games. I hate the villages, much prefer easily seen towers.
So much for a prologue. Now I'm six weeks late seeing the Jirisys announcement.
My advice: DON'T!!!!!!!
Doing a v2.0 just compounds the EB problem. The designers loved their product, wanted more and better. So out came EB II announcement. Years have passed and EB sits neglected, buggy and unimproved and EB II seems no closer to release than when it was announced. Modders are being forced to fix EB but the nature of the beast means new problems arrive when mods created.
Instead of diving in to bigger and better work with what you have. Take the Mega-mod, fix any grammar and scripts and add the mod selection. Once this works then add more, alter the engine etc. Incremental changes will keep your fanbase. Dropping this for a Super-Mega-mod risks losing your fans to something else that comes along.
The best analogy I know of is SILENT HUNTER III. Lots of mods. Then Grey wolves team came along and modded it, they added incremental changes with occasional big updates. They have the best subsim going, haven't had CTD in years. However with SHIII fixed GWX team set their sights on SILENT HUNTER IV. They found their team was gone; life, jobs marriage had depleted them so they closed down. I fate I fear of EBII. Your problem is opposite as a 1-man operation it could take you so long to get it right, we're all gone when your ready.
Thanks,
Steve Cabral
Very good points Steve. I agree with you.
Problem is that the mega mod was compouded by hand and into a single version. Meaning I cannot take a mod out without re-making the whole thing.
That's why I asked for help. I will take into account what you said.
So, I'm releasing these semi-complete mods that I had stored for the whole release.
They are 100% compatible, just paste it into your RTW\ folder.
First. Victory Conditions images for the Victory Conditions mod. (I've altered the VCs a tad, but it's fully SGC).
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ce2dab4/n/Victory_Conditions.zip
Second. The Epilektoi Hoplitai Voice Correction (No longer do they say "Thorakitai Hoplitai", but "Hoplitai")
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ce2df07/n/Epilektoi_Hoplitai_Voice_Correction.zip
Third. New Jirisys Intros (Optional, they look awful, too slow fps. Weird. In any case, here they are)
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ce2d35c/n/Intros.zip
Fourth. Trivial Script for Alexander with updated EBO 2.1 EDU (Yes! You can use Trivial script to access Alexander now! Only detail is that if you have changed the EDU or Map.rwm, you paste it into EB\sp game edu backup\, otherwise, the JEBMMP default files will be placed)

After a CTD the other day and CTD getting back in EB I instead took a shiny new U-Boat out for a spin. After getting sunk I re-tried, and got in, so was system CTD not EB's. However I remembered this while sub-ing.

Hopefully this will help.
Jase Jones invented a Generic Mod Enabler for Silent Hunter. Apparently it works with TOTAL WAR. So in theory one could load a GME, then fill it with mods and players then get to pick and choose. You can even contact Jones to discuss a project, though he is apparently curt & mercurial from what I've observed from a great and silent distance.
When one downloads GWX a GME with 10 or so optional mods comes with it. This means a Jirisys mod would include the intro screen, patches and other items you want standard with other mods in a GME i.e. like movement. villages, water(I like that one a lot too) new stuff etc. This might allow you to move quicker and not 're-invent the wheel' so to speak.

Oh, wow. Many thanks Easterner. I wish I had enough time to work for this. With the work I have to do for my colleges, AtB, reading some history books, etc. I have little time.
In any case, I'll try to work as much as I can.

There is no such thing as "original formations installer" IIRC.

There is an installer that installs the original formations that come with EB v1.2. The download in the original thread isn't available anymore, but I have the installer in my external hard drive. Give me 36 hours max and I should have it to you.
Sorry for posting a little later than promised. I forgot to do this earlier. Here is an installer that will revert your formations to original EB formations. Good luck.

I don't know, but for me, this is a Full-of-CTD mod, and I discourage its download. I can't pass to a 3rd turn without getting a permanent CTD (and I installed it in a fresh EB installation). I'm reinstalling EB (since I alreay have reinstalled RTW) to see if that's the problem (but I think it is not).
Hope this solves the problem, because this is a very useful add-on
A particular CTD I got, happened when I was scrolling through the campaign map near the zone between Tripolitania,Cirenaica, and AUgila, is this "normal"?
I could attach my savegame if that could be useful,
greetings :)
EDIT: Loved your romani video! ;) a very inspirational intro to start building the Imperium Romanorum!
Quite right,
Could I humbly request that you make your corrected script file available for use with your mod pack please :hail: Jirisys?
Thanks

I added the separate mods on the second post, and I posted the corrections for the EDA and EDCT.

Hi Jirisys,
Thanks for uploading the script fixes.
I have tried using your mod (Alex version) but there do seem to be a lot more CTDs.
Some on mid enemy turn, seome if pressing ESC when the movies are playing and others when scrolling over some parts ofthe map. These are in the early game (in the first five turns) and on a clean new install.
The good news is that the installation itself was painless - but the CTDs make it just not worth the candle.
This is a real shame because I very much appreciate you taking the time and effort to put these popular mods together.
If I could narrow down what was causing all the CTDs I might be able to get a game running (after all, it could be just one little thing causing all the trouble) but I can't pin it down.

Hi!
I have, with a lot of patience and many, many dozens of CTD's, reached 170 BCE. Polybian and Marian reforms triggered as expected.
Although it has been a rough sail, to say the least, it has been well worth it. I have had a very good EB experience. So thank you Jirsys! In spite of its shortcomings, I have really enjoyed the mod. I will continue to push on (and though CTD's ;)) as the Romani.
For anyone who wants to give it a shot, my advice is to quicksave (ctrl S) often, both during and at the end of turns. And if you are attacked during the AI's phase, save through the menu (ESC - save game).

The other is for Silent Hunter III with 24 mods of which 9 are activated. 3256

The problem with that is that it can't handle two mods to alter the same file, it just replaces it.
Also, it needs to be installed apart from the EB mod pack.

Just paste this file in your RTW folder. NOT YOUR EB FOLDER. Your RTW one, where RTW.exe is in.

I'm having that problem too. It can be a good idea posting that archive in the main post, just in case someone else had that problem. And please, can you upload it to another page? Filefactory don't let me download the file... :( (well, probably this is a problem of filefactory. I'll try again later, or tomorrow)
Another problem that can have to do with this, is that in the battle map there is no red border. I can live with it, but it would be great to fix it.
Greetings, and thanks to all team for all the EB mods (that's my first post, I had to say it). xD

So I was thinking, what do you guys think if the mod pack had it's own separate forum, where you could flood it with bug reports, and a odd mod suggestion. Plus some advances made in the JEBMMP 2.0 made by me. Of course, the most important thing, you could help me with some things and you would be immortalized in the game's and mod's credits.
Now, if that would be fruitful, is another thing.
So I'll make a poll, to ask thine opinion, I want you to answer it now. Yes. Now.
Ok, so I'm not gonna make a poll, you can stop wondering why in the hell there isn't any poll on this thread. I didn't make it. There.
I just want you to answer me if you think this is a great thing and could be useful, or it's just a delusion of grandeur because I could install phpbb3 in a website successfully.
Just say what you think about this new idea I had.
~Jirisys ()
This thread is only 3 pages long. Would you bring the mountain to the donkey, or ride the donkey to the mountain? Similarly, would you build a forum for a few handfuls of posts, or would you leave them where they be?

Spare me the pleasantries old man, as it is clear you have not seen the greatness beyond your eyes. You are as uninformed as a blind man describing a landscape. You have not measured the entire span of my kingdom, only what borders you are aware of.
In all seriousness now, the TWC thread has 14 pages, add to that the PMs that I receive. Not something impressive at all, but much larger than what you implied.
That is why I doubted the fruitfulness of the whole thing, and why I haven't made any rash decisions yet.
Also, I added some new requested fixes.

Hello there Jirisys. Your phalanx mod also gives the short_pike attribute to phalanx units with 2 weapons correct. When I did this, the unit often glitched and would never use the 2nd weapon. ie. Babylonian Heavy Spearmen with the short_pike attribute would always use the spear and never use the mace. Does this still happen or did you find a way around this problem?

After playing quite a few hours (about 40-50 I believe, thanks to a few free days :2thumbsup:) with your patch installed I can happily confirm that there is a significant increase in stability.
Infact I didn't have a single crash in all those hours (even when I fought 4 battles - 2 of them ending with heroic victories and the capture of a city - in one AI turn).
Splendid work!
Installing Hannibal Smith's RS II environment as a final step in the installation (after the patch) seems to work without problems so far.
The AI is a lot better.
Playing a Hayasdan campaign at the moment and been allied to Pahlava from start. Now it's 206 and the alliance still holds - despite the fact that we share a rather long border for some decades already.
Overall there is no steamrolling faction yet (except Hayasdan - I own most of Asia Minor and Syria/Mesopotamia by now) and only one faction was destroyed (Lusotannans made the grave mistake to attack the Kart-Hadastim and paid for that - they had no chance against the african phalanxes).
Another thing I can confirm is not as splendid though: the Romani just reached the Marian reforms and checking their new MIC's in Italy didn't show any of the RS legions.
I personally am perfectly fine with that (since I'm not too fond of those dozens of different legion units) but some others may consider this a bad thing...

Alex version, yes.
And yes, the MIC's are upgraded - they have to be since there are 2 MIC's in each city. A Polybian one (that gets demolished by the script each turn and repaired by the AI) and a Marian one.
Unfortunately the script can't really destroy the Polybian MIC's. The huge amount of money needed to repair them each turn seems to be the reason for the sudden death of AI Romani in so many campaigns.

That should be resolved, since they will repair them, they should just upgrade the Polybian MICs, still being able to recruit polybian soldiers.
I mean, the polybian MIC should not be scripted to be damaged. It should just be upgraded.
Unless I just don't know the Roman MICs.

No, that's no bug in your mod, it's the way the Polybian -> Marian reform script works.
Even in a completely vanilla EB 1.2 you will find 2 MIC's in each province within the Polybian AoR after the (EB) Marian reforms, the old Polybian one and a newly spawned Marian one.
All settlements outside that area get a Marian MIC level 1 spawned when captured.
A player just destroys the obsolete MIC's in the italian cities but the AI unfortunately isn't able to do so.

No, I knew it wasn't a bug. I thought that Polybian and Marian MICs were the same, like Camillan/Polybian.
So why is it so expensive to repair them? And does it do that every turn?
~Jirisys ()
Shadowwalker
01-31-2012, 22:40
So why is it so expensive to repair them? And does it do that every turn?
(1) The damage dealt is 100% so you basically pay the same amount for the repair as if you'd construct it anew. (I'm not sure if this is really the case - maybe it is "only" the price you get for destroying the building. But even that would be 5000 Mnai for a level 5 MIC.) There are 9 or 10 provinces which can have a polybian MIC. And the AI tends to have them upgraded to level 5 by the time the Marian Reforms happen ....
(2) Yes, the AI seems to do it every turn (if it has enough money, that is), as far as I can tell it even neglects new constructions (at least a few process_cq tests back in vanilla EB seemed to hint for that, since there never was a building in the queue).
I also assume that this huge expense is part of the reason for the mass recruitment of Vigiles instead of legionaires (although the stat/cost ratio has a major influence too of course).
Wouldn't it be better to damage it 1%? Since that still disables recruitment, but without the massive cost for the AI.

I'm inclined to agree but I have no idea about R:TW scripting.

Hi, I tried your mod pack for the first time and I wanted to let you know that I ran into an issue with the "Traits and ancillaries correction". When I have installed it, I always run into a CTD somewhere in between turns after I complete my second turn. I tried different factions and running it with or without the script activated, but it is always the same. When I revert to my backup, it works though, so I believe I can exclude any other causes (yes, I make Backups and run tests for every fix I install).
Edit: I'm using the Alexander Version.
You used a new campaign, I imagine, just for testing?

You used a new campaign, I imagine, just for testing?
Indeed I did. It was always the second turn in the campaign after which it crashed.
I considered a corrupted download, but I still get the same results after a redownload. I have the CTD fix installed and from the compatible mods and requested fixes I only used the victory conditions (well, and the traits and ancillaries correction, which is the reason I'm here).
I'm currently just playing without the traits and ancillaries correction, so it isn't any life or death situation.
Heya, just installed this and noticed 2 problems.
1. Generally portaits were good except for one. My heir as Arche Seleukeia was wearing something which to me resembled a native american atire?
2. The watch-tower/town seems to cause CTD when I mouse over, what's causing this? (After building one that is)
Well, I'll look into that. Hopefully it's an isolated problem.

The first is a mod, and it's a mix of the greek and eastern portraits, because, they were eastern and hellenic.
The second can be fixed, just download the huge red letter fix in the 2nd post.

Hi,
the link for the fix for your mod pack leads to file factory which does not let people download it until they become premium.
They have a neat little pickup line about all free download slots being taken:)
Could you possibly post a different link?
Yes, been getting that a lot from TWC.
Guess I'll have to move away from FileFactory.

~Jirisys ()
Great, thanks!
BTW, could you post the 6 TPY mod you mentioned?
Is it compatible with the megamod?
Sure, but it's not for the mod pack, and not today.
At least not the 1.x versions.
~Jirisys ()
Question about the installation (using Alex)... you say not to start through Alex's link but to create your own link and edit the properties... but to what?
clarification:
DO NOT open EB through ANY shortcut. YOU MUST EDIT IT'S PATH AND STARTUP TO YOUR OWN ONE (***or just create one from your rometw-alex.exe and add the modifiers to that one***)
What modifiers?
In the second post, there's a submods that says "Trivial Script for Alex". If you install it, you can run it from the EB link made for 1.2.
Modifiers are the "-ne, -nm, -noalexander" things you put in the shorcut's target path.
~Jirisys ()
Aah thankya!
Errr ah got a non filefactory mirror?
Working on it. Care to wait for a day?
~Jirisys ()
I have a choice?
But no, I don't mind :laugh4:
::edit:: When I try making a shortcut myself (with EBfirst and then your mod installed into regular RTW directory) and add the arguments you posted (-ne, -nm, -noalexander also tried it without commas, and also tried just -noalexander by itself, makes no difference), I start Alexander and get the error "failed to read censored word dictionary file: data//chat_filter.san" if I start Alexander by itself with no arguments it starts jsut fine, but just vanilla Alexander.
I guess I really don't get how to install this. I've installed your mod into the RTW directory, and it's definitely overwriting the RTW/EB abd RTW/data files, so I'm sure I'm installing to the right location. I'm using the arguments you posted, and it's not working. Not sure what I'm missing here
I reinstalled EB before trying to install this mod. Currently reinstalling Alexander even tho I've never touched it before.
::last edit i swear:: AH well your mod for plain ole rtw/eb works fine. THanks for the hard work!
All submod links now on ifile.it.
Hopefully there will be no more problems
Blooo
The problem was that you added the right arguments, but you might have downloaded the RTW version, not the Alex one. That's why it couldn't find the chat_filter.san file, since it's included in the Alex version.
~Jirisys ()
Thanks for fixing the links!
And I had first downloaded JRTWAEBMMP1.03.exe, that's for Alex as far as I can tell. Only after I couldn't get it to work did I download JRTWEBMMP1.02.exe for plain ole RTW.
Trivialscript thing didn't work, oh well, guess this just isn't going to work with Alex for me.
Thanks for your hard work again tho, enjoying 1.02!

I have really no idea what you have did with your ctd fix but even after I have added RS2 Environments upon your pack it takes around 3-4 hours before my alex version crashes.
The Watchtower village mod error that you told me about caused the hover over map errors.
The New EB 1.2 Quotes from the EB Team made it crash on loading screens (which is not a problem of the mod, it seems even with vanilla EB it crashes) (Which may have been due to some index errors I pointed out, but never really tested it).

hey jirisy, good to see youre still keeping an eye on this thread despite its age, i read earlier in the thread you were looking for a fix for the village mod? i just did a clean install of your modpack and the villages show up as towers, despite when i mouse over them it says "village" any idea why?
Very weird, that is an installation problem, it seems the mod files didn't copy at all, so you are getting the default ones.
Try Installing over the last install.

will that affect my save game tho, + other mods that i installed after megamod pack?
Hopefully not, just in case, make a backup.
Other mods? Certainly.
You could also just look at the Village Watchtower mod thread (linked in the first post) and try to make it yourself.

Hello Jirisy,
How can i revert your Polybian Triarii and Pedites Extraordinarii Unit Size Correction? I have tried it in the export_descr_unit.txt alredy, but it does not work. Unit size turns from 40 to your 20 automatically. Do i have to modify another files, too?

New submod section added to this EB submod, so you can mod mods, while your mod your mods.
Second post, near the end of the post.

Jirisys how can i fix the problem that the Eleutheroi take all they stacks and leave one single unit in garrison?
That is due to the "Realistic movement" mod. There's a fix in the second post, section "Requested Fixes", look for the one for the mod.

Hi Jirisys,
First of all thanks for your mod - the new fix makes it 10x more playable now. I have two questions: will Hannibal Smith's RSII textures work on top of an already installed ALX Mega Mod Pack? Also, as people have been reporting fullstacks moving out of cities with the Realistic Movement Mod, would you recommend playing with this mod activated or no?
Thanks

Some people have said that it does work, but I reccomend backing up your files before you try.
Well, whatever suits your need. Do you want fast campaigns and not taking 10 years to go from Italy to Persia. Or if you want a slower campaign. Whatever suits your taste.

Just wanted to say thanks for your work in helping us enjoy our game even more.
No questions. No complaints... not yet anyway :)
Seems to work fine with steam. Looking good so far.
I did rage quit when an enemy general (Hellenic bodyguard cav) refused to die while being surrounded by 200 hoplites and cost me the battle. Is this supposed to be normal?

For EB? Yes.

They are 100% compatible, just paste it into your RTW\ folder.
First. Victory Conditions images for the Victory Conditions mod. (I've altered the VCs a tad, but it's fully SGC).

Sorry if I'm a little daft but I can't see a Victory Conditions mod in your list-of-mods.
Is such a mod included or will I have to get said mod from elsewhere (also, where do I find it? Is it the one talked about in this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?86313-Win-Conditions&highlight=victory+conditions)
It is included in the separate download, not the actual mod pack, so you don't need to get it elsewhere.

May be I've missed where this problem has been fixed, but I can't start a new campaign:
I click start new campaign and a box comes up telling me to select an item from the list...
I've had EB running on the Alexander engine about a year ago no problem, and I've come back to it and would like to try your mod, but I can't start a game.
*Installed mod on clean install of RTW, Alex, EB 1.1, then 1.2, then fixes plus CTD fix.
Ideas?
The link to the must have fix for the new quotes and watchtower village mod is broke...
Has the fix been updated into the main download?
It's not broken for me.
Not yet, I've been incredibly busy.

Sorry Jirisys total error on my part didn't realise how filecloud worked... I requested the download ticket and I've got the files fine!
Thanks for this great mod bundle!

I have a bit of a problem with the mod during battles. I don't know why, but on the batlemap, after I hit start deployment (or whatever the name is) the camera starts to drift slowly off the map. If I hit a moment key the view changes to a blue sky with intermittent flashing images of one part of the battlefield, seen from high above. I cannot bring the camera back to the map using movement keys, and if I click the general's portrait or double-click a unit, it crashes.

That is the weirdest bug I've ever seen. And I have no idea how to solve it or replicate it.

Well, I've actually managed to fix it and it seems it was my mistake to begin with that caused it.
First, this is a video of the bug in action. I made it just in case you didn't believe me. I was after all the strangest bug I've ever had, too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nv85P7hhrdg&feature=youtu.be
Now for how I got rid of it.
I'm playing the game with Alex.exe and trivial script, and each time I started up the game I got this error message:
https://i1336.photobucket.com/albums/o651/cezar_dan/Errormessage_zps9dfc79bf.jpg
At first I just wanted to copy the missing files from my EB folder, but then I thought that maybe the missing files were different from the ones I already had. So I though that copying them would only hide the error message. Apparently I was wrong and one or all of those files were somehow responsible for my bug.
EDIT: Never mind, it's still there :sad2:
Copy those files from your EB\Data folder into the \sp game edu backup and \mp game edu backup as well.

Hi Jirisys,
Thanks for the mod. I did a whole bunch of things to mine back in the day but I did it all by hand like you, now I just need to install your mod and I get what I did and then some. Very useful. The only thing I add on top are Darth Stalin's texture models for the Imperial Romani troops (not that you really see them in an average campaign). I wished to see if I got them working or not, but unfortunately playing a custom game is faced with a significant problem as mentioned on page 2 by Mukai:
After replacing the SP EDU with the MP an error on startup reads "Script Error in eb/data/export_descr_buildings.txt, at line 7448, column 45 Unknown unit type specified: legio I germanica"
I'd fix it myself but I don't know how you wove all of these mods together and frankly so long as I can play the campaigns I'm satisfied. You mentioned that you "might need to modify the multiplayer part" and that it would take a while. I've tried both the MP EDU that came with your mod and the trivial script update, neither work, same error. There was also a significant size discrepancy between the two (200kb to ~400kb), which I thought was curious. Thoughts?
The problem is that since you renamed the entry from the export_descr_units, the buildings (barracks) still have the name from the old one. So either rename it to how it was in the export_descr_units, or change the name in the export_descr_backup (and export_units in the text folder if you want them to have descriptions).
~Jirisys ()
Sorry Jirisys, but that was just gibberish to me. It gave me enough of a clue to go poking around in the EDU for the legion names, however, and I discovered that the problem was quite simple. They were missing from the multiplayer EDU. A simple copy and paste later and voila, it worked. I've uploaded three versions.
One for a 'vanilla' install of your mod; one with Darth Stalin's models integrated; one for the Trivial Script that you released.
I've 'tested' the DS version (i.e. the models came up fine in a custom battle). I'll let other people test the alternative versions, but I'm pretty confident there should be no trouble, though I'll keep an eye on the thread in case it proves otherwise.
The image below provides some proof. Cheers.

From the looks of things, the bug has nothing to do with this mod. I did a clean reinstall of the whole game and it seemed to pop up in plain EB as well. I can't rally explain it since I had EB on this computer years ago and it worked normally. All I've changed in the mean time is adding some extra RAM's. Fortunately in most battles it's just some drifting of the camera to some random location.
Can anyone help me installing this mod on RTW Alex on steam? i cant seem to make it work,
You need to set the launch options for it to work. Right click the game in your library and go to properties, then 'set launch options' to this: -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander
Should work. Add -ne in there if you want to play in windowed mode.

Well, believe it or not, I've managed to figure out what caused that bug. It seems that watching the general's speech at the beginning of a battle (with all the jumping between angles) somehow confused the camera. If I just skip the speech completely it works exactly as it should. I actually kind of liked listening to the Roman speeches, but it's a minor loss.
Hello, love this mod and also this submod, but I am having a problem with the camera. In the regular EB, whenever I double click a unit card, it would slowly pan the camera to the unit. If I moved the camera during the process, it would snap instantly to that unit, saving me time when I check different areas of the battle. Well, then I tried this submod, and now whenever I try to do that, the camera just jerks back to wherever I had it originally before I double-clicked. Is this normal? Can someone help?

You are probably running EB on the Alexander engine. Alex does not insta-pan. Rome does. This is outside the scope of any mods, or sub-mods.

Yes, I meant to reply with this information but I guess it escaped my mind. Thanks V.

Hey guys running the mod and loving it!
I'm playing AS and finding the "not in his satrap" trait very annoying to manage as the penalties are pretty grim for this and I've no way of know how to get rid of it! Any advice?

Ah, okay, thanks for the info, I found that the Total War cam does instapan, so I'll use that instead.
Another question, how can I do the configuration for this mod? Do I use the one the mod originally came with?

Like no arrows under the troops, no movies, and the things like that.
Like no arrows under the troops, no movies, and the things like that.
That is specific to the game engine, not this sub-mod or EB itself. If you are using the trivial script that comes with EB, you have options there. If not, you can change the preferences.txt file. Search for it inside the EB folder; if I remember right, it's in [rome]/eb/preferences/preferences.txt.
