I have defeated Mewtwo in Pokemon Stadium using a Chansey, and only a Chansey.

High HP plus bide/counter/other HP-damage/return based attacks will pwn Mewtwo, as Chansey buffed up can withstand a Mewtwo attack or two.

You can one-hit KO just about any pokemon with the Chansey/Blissey 'mon, assuming you have a total moron playing against you (AI). I do that sort of thing for the lols.

Yeah, I put a lot of thought into my pokemon selection, and then all my mons were wiped out regardless. Meh. Should have voted for Seon, didn't pay enough attention.

I told you guys I'm not ATPG right now, I'm at 10% of where I usually am due to my hosting and RL.

You said " Most of you noticed your odd victory condition: “Survive the tournament”. Not “win”, but “survive”."

My role PM, and several others said Win. The fact that some said survive did make it more balanced, but I think a few more needed to say Survive for it to be balanced.

Edit: Just checked. Only five players had Survive the tournament as their VC, 11 had Win, and Mewtwo had his own. I would also say that for intra-townie balance in the event of Mewtwo's defeat, Red and Blue should have been two of the ones with Win rather than being 2 of the 5 with survive.

I've never seen Chansey or Blissey one-shot anything since I first played the game in 1997, so that's pretty impressive.

I did the very same, spent about an hour or so scrutinising my lineup; difference between us is that I wasn't wiped out by a 680 BST legendary... :P

It's not actually that impressive. Chansey/Blissey have an acceptable/moderate special defense stat, and the most extreme HP advantage out of most pokemon of that generation, still do in fact, iirc have a good HP stat compared to basically all other pokemon, unless I am mistaken.

The thing is, those pokemon can easily have several times more HP than Mewtwo himself, and when get hit by an attack by Mewtwo or any pokemon, their low/mediocre base stats but high HP allow them to survive it, and take several hundred HP damage in a hit. They then return that same amount of HP damage to their opponent, who has considerably less HP.

It doesn't matter what your defense stats are, if you lose 400 HP in an attack from Chansey. It's a trick, yes, but it's an effective tactic against a player that doesn't understand that Chansey is a heavyweight when it comes to HP-based counterdamage. You don't need to have any impressive base stat besides HP to perform the tactic, and it is always effective unless the enemy is intelligent enough to choose a suitable counter strategy, of which there are several, but the AI doesn't understand strategy.

It's just a cheap trick anyway, but it's ever so satisfying.

!!!!!

This is actually a major oversight and mistake on my part, that I didn't even notice until you mentioned it there.

They were all supposed to say survive. In any case, that's how it would have worked, regardless of what it actually said.

The "Win" victory conditions were likely left over from an earlier version of the role PMs that I forgot to correct.

You have my apologies for that; it likely changed the way you played the game, and it was not intended.

There is a major flaw to your plan, and it is called Hitmonchan.

My possible choices

Pokemon
Gardevoir - Psychic type
Magnezone – Electric/Steel type
Altaria – Dragon/Flying type
Delcatty - Normal type
Roserade – Grass/Poison type
Walrein – Ice/Water type

Bold means the ones I picked. I basically chose the types that had less weaknesses

There is a major flaw to your plan, and it is called Hitmonchan.

Like I said, there are counter-strategies. Although, to be fair, Hitmonchan would have difficulty one-hit KO'ing a buffed up Chansey, especially a Blissey. If Mewtwo can't do it, even the fighter advantage isn't good.

If you said someone with a higher overall strength, perhaps the most powerful fighting type in the games, then maybe. But a fully-buffed up Chansey or Blissey can withstand a pretty incredible hit of almost any kind at least once, not counting the one-hit KO moves and superpowered 150-strength or above moves.

And I have now officially become a pokespam. Time to end this conversation...

Hi Jump Kick has 130 power. That and x3 from STAB and Super Effective could definitely 1HKO a Chansey.

You know, assuming it doesn't miss.

Except for High Jump Kick you would need Hitmonlee, not Hitmonchan. So sorry, Double A. :clown:

If you could somehow harness all the nerdliness in this thread, you could probably destroy the earth.

Wasn't that the basis of the machine that was used in the first Council of Villains game to destroy Sephiroth?

That WAS how it worked, right???

We need the extra dose that is Yu-Gi-Oh! in order to destroy everything, I'm afraid.
However, I don't recall any characters from that thing in the CoV game, so thank goodness.
We'll just have to settle for world domination, I guess.
