The sun was setting in Cerulean City (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyySK_DaKrU). It had been a beautiful summer day. The air was warm, and the sky shaded with yellows and oranges and pinks, the same colors bouncing off the sparse clouds and creating a beautiful mosaic. Light sparkled off of the clear, blue water that surrounded the town.

Such a day was typical of Cerulean City. But this was not any typical day. On a small island slightly downstream, the mysterious Cerulean Cave was surrounded by a foreboding atmosphere. Since the sun was setting behind its only entrance, one could scarcely see three feet into the dark, dank cavern.

Off in the distance, a silhouetted figure approached the cave from the sky. It was moving quickly, and as it came closer and closer, it was visibly larger than a man. Soon enough, the large, winged creature landed just outside the cave, gracefully enough that one who was not listening might not have heard it. Off of its back jumped a smaller, human figure. The human held up a ball, and with a pulse of red light, the creature disintegrated, returning with the light back into the ball.

The trainer reached into a pack, pulling out a folded up letter. After glancing at the cave entrance, the trainer looked down at the letter and re-read it:

Dear Trainer,

After much consideration on your skill, record, and reputation, you have been determined to be one of the most powerful trainers in the entire world. We have selected you, along with sixteen other qualified master trainers, to compete in the Pokemon World Championship Tournament. The winner will be crowned the World Champion, and be recognized as the most powerful Pokemon trainer in the world.

The tournament is being held at a brand new stadium built in the depths of Cerulean Cave, long known for the frighteningly powerful Pokemon that live within. Getting to the bottom will be a test of your strength and resolve, and when you arrive you will have proved yourself worthy to compete.

The structure of the tournament is unorthodox, and designed to test a trainer’s skill and ingenuity both on and off the battlefield. Trainers are encouraged to bring a full team of six Pokemon to Cerulean Cave. Once at the bottom, however, the trainer must select only three to compete, and the rest will be confiscated until the end of the tournament. It is therefore important that the team chosen be balanced and able to handle all kinds of opponents.

Instead of a bracket structure, trainers will vote to decide who among them will battle every day. The two trainers with the most votes total will be chosen to duel. Trainers will battle until all of their Pokemon faint. No substitutions are to be made between rounds, and Pokemon that faint during duels are not to be revived or used again until the end of the tournament. If a trainer loses all three of his team, than that trainer is considered eliminated and his/her vote removed.

As a last resort, if the trainer is determined to be playing unfairly, a unanimous vote on that trainer (excluding the trainer’s own vote) will remove that trainer from the competition without a battle.

Please make your way to Cerulean Cave by the first of April for the start of the tournament. Remember, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The World Championship title is granted for life, and it is unlikely that you will be able to participate in another competition of this caliber during your lifetime.

There was space for a signature at the bottom of the page, but it was left blank, probably as a mistake. The return address was for Cerulean Cave, but there was no name given there, either.

The trainer folded up the letter and put it away. After checking to make sure six Pokeballs hung around the belt, the trainer looked up toward the ominous cave, and began walking towards it. When the trainer stood directly in the entrance, staring into the darkness, suddenly a pair of glowing eyes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMkIvjxONbU) stared back.

The trainer tried to reach for a Pokeball, but felt a strange force preventing any movement. A deep voice spoke, not through the air, but directly into the trainer’s brain.

“Welcome. You just happen to be the first one to arrive. I’m glad it was you… yes, I’m sure that you will work quite nicely.”

Out of the darkness stretched an otherworldly hand. It was a pale, purplish color and had only three spherical digits on its end. The hand crunched itself into a fist, and the trainer felt an excruciating pain, and yet could not scream because of the force holding the trainer’s muscles tight. The trainer blacked out.

Mewtwo's Retribution

This is a game with something of a unique set-up, much of which will be unknown to the players throughout the game. The rules are mostly explained in the opening write-up above. Private communications are allowed, reveals are allowed, screenshots are not- basically, standard rules apply. There is not much that can be done to break the game, as the set-up, though unique, is also simple.

You don't need to be familiar with the Pokemon games to play this, but it is certainly helpful. For those less knowledgeable on the series, bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net (http://www.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net) is an excellent source of information, and I will provide essential links myself in the role PMs.

I'm looking for 17 sign-ups. This can be a very fun, interactive game if everyone participates. It is both mafia and a competition.

As for Kyurem... unfortunately for Fluffy, I had this game all designed before Gen V came around, and so there are only characters from the first four generations in this game. Not to mention I don't have enough space for characters to fit them in!

Before things get started, I've got a question. Does the [Council of Villains] subtitle for this thread/game indicate anything that I ought to be aware of? I Googled "council of villains" and the first two results were threads of previous Mafia games started by Chaotix. I read the OP of both, but didn't see much in common, apart from being very character oriented. I'll try to read the summaries for both games by tomorrow.

Also, please be patient with me, as I've only participated in one Mafia game, back in 2006, and things were fairly basic back then. :kid:

Also, what level are they all? And TMs?

Night 0

As night fell, the seventeen master trainers began to arrive. They all entered Cerulean Cave (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfuEoBvJ4hw) and cautiously started to make their way through, navigating the confusing tunnels and battling fierce wild Pokemon.

When they reached the center of the cave, several small doorways opened up into a massive arena, carved straight into the stone wall. There were several large computer screens outside the arena, all attached to strange devices that looked like they were designed to transport Pokeballs. Each computer screen read, in large print:

GREETINGS, CHALLENGER. THIS TOURNAMENT IS SET TO BEGIN AT 12:00 PM ON APRIL 1. PLEASE DEPOSIT THREE POKEMON BEFORE ENTERING THE ARENA.

The trainers discovered they could not enter the arena until they dropped Pokeballs into the machine slots. The night stretched on as each trainer carefully decided which team members to use.

His pokemon choice is likely a joke, as it seems only the type of the pokemon matter here, which leaves him vulnerable to anything that's good against psychic, and then of course the fact that those are all legendary/rare. That team would actually be kind of bad in this game, ironically.

Did Warman get banned? Again?

I've just about had it with him getting banned during my games. He didn't even send in his team of three. I'm replacing him with either Beefy or Yaropolk, whoever responds first.

I am also waiting on Rebel Jeb's team of three.

Night 0 will end in one hour, and I'll try to have the write-up posted; I doubt it will be long. In the meantime, whoever replaces Warman is going to have until the end of this day phase to choose their team.

Everyone else needs to give me an order by the end of the Day phase if they have not already.

EDIT: Yaropolk has replaced Warman. I'm working on the write-up currently.

Night 0

Outside Cerulean Cave, the night was crisp and clear. Light from the moon and nearby city made it just the right level of light for someone to sneak around (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMtf-Ubn53A) unseen, yet see what he was doing. Occasionally the rustling of bushes or the shuffling of feet could be heard, but all of the trainers were too deep in the cave to know about anything happening on the outside.

Suddenly, three cloaked figures zipped over to the mouth of the cave with several contraptions in their hands. Working furiously for about thirty seconds, they then leapt away when they were apparently done. They stood admiring it for a few seconds, when a passing park ranger noticed them.

“Hey! What are you troublemakers doing?”

“Did somebody say trouble?”

The three cloaked figures trembled with excitement, and in a flash threw off their disguises.

With a glint in their eyes, the Team Rocket Trio began their infamous motto (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p09hhXbsB9c).

“Prepare for trouble!”

“And make that double!”

“To protect the world from devastation!”

“To unite all peoples under one nation!”

“To denounce the evils of truth and love!”

“To extend our reach to the stars above!”

“Jessie!”

“James!”

“Team Rocket will blast these twerps at the speed of light!”

“They’ll surrender before they can even prepare to fight!”

“Meowth! That’s right!”

With that, Team Rocket’s treacherous plan was revealed. Set up in front of the cave entrance was a massive pile of explosives, which led to a detonator right in front of James.

“Wit all dose twerps stuck down in da cave, dere won’t be nobody to stop Team Rocket anymore!”

“You might say they’ve got a rocky road ahead of them! Ahahahaha!”

“Just hit the detonator already!”

James threw the switch, and a huge explosion shook the ground. When the dust cleared, the mouth of Cerulean cave had been entirely sealed up with massive boulders. The painful screams of the Pokemon and trainers below were muffled by tons of solid rock. No one would ever know they were down there suffering.

Team Rocket rejoiced, laughing since for once their plan had actually worked. Now nobody would be able to stop Team Rocket! They would rule the world!

TEAM ROCKET VICTORY!
APRIL FOOLS!

What actually occurred was as follows:

James threw the switch, and absolutely nothing happened.

“What’s going on?”

“All of our bombs must be duds!”

“That’s not possible! Get those bombs over here and have a look at the fuse, James.”

James did as he was told and moved the bombs closer to Team Rocket and away from the cave. Sure enough, when he checked the fuse, it was simply not connected properly. James re-connected the fuse, threw the switch, and beamed proudly.

“There! Now they should explode any second now.”

“You idiot! We’re standing right next to them!”

The bombs now exploded properly, engulfing Team Rocket and entirely missing Cerulean cave. In a puff of smoke, Team Rocket was sent flying high into the air.

“Looks like Team Rocket’s blasting off again!”

“I wish we got more than just a cameo in this game!”

The blast sent the trio far off into the distance, where they disappeared with the twinkle of a star. The park ranger just stared with a confused look for a minute or so, and then left.

Inside the cave, all 17 competitors had successfully entered the arena (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j558QfDYHhc). When the clock struck 12, a strange voice boomed across the stadium, sounding like it was coming from a loudspeaker- but there were no loudspeakers in sight.

“I welcome you all to the Pokemon World Championship Tournament. I know you are all eager to begin. So without further ado, let us begin the voting to decide the first duel!”

That is correct. You can choose the order that they battle in up until the end of the phase, and once the phase ends I implement that chosen order in the battle.

I apologize that the write-up is taking so long; I am trying to make it exciting and I have to get back into the rhythm of doing them every day.

Day 1

The seventeen trainers all cast their votes to determine which two of them would battle first. They submitted their votes into the same electronic machines that had received their other three Pokemon earlier that day. When everybody was finished, the booming loudspeaker-voice was heard again.

“Greetings, trainers. The votes have been tallied, and the match for today will be between Gold, the Johto Champion, and Cynthia, the former Sinnoh Champion! Gold, please proceed to the red corner, and Cynthia to the blue corner.”

Once the two trainers were in their places, the announcer spoke again.

“Make your preparations for the battle now.”

Gold was eager to begin.

“I’m ready now! I hope you’re prepared to lose!”

Cynthia remained cool and reserved as usual.

“Well, at least you’re enthusiastic. That should make this battle interesting, if nothing else.”

“Let the battle begin!”

“Go, Scizor!”

“Lucario, take care of this!”

The two Pokemon stood in a fierce standoff (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZv5NzYzAgw) for a few seconds. Both had strong defensive qualities due to their Steel-type, so this was sure to be a long, protracted battle full of brutal blows.

“Use X-Scissor!”

Scizor suddenly charged forward at blinding speed, and before Lucario could react, it slashed the other Pokemon with its scissor-shaped claws. Lucario was hit hard and thrown backward, but it landed solidly on its feet, without showing any signs of wear.

“Lucario, hit it with Force Palm.”

“Scizor, block it!”

An aura of energy surrounded Lucario’s fists, and it began thrusting them forcefully at Scizor. But Scizor, directed by its trainer, was blocking the strikes wherever they came. The attacks were still doing damage, though- it was clear Scizor could not keep this up for long.

“No, Scizor. Use your claws!”

Now Scizor caught Gold’s idea. The next time Lucario thrust its fist, Scizor clamped down on it hard with its pincer-claw. Too late to react, Lucario thrust with its other fist, and that was caught in Scizor’s other claw. Lucario winced with pain as the Bug-type continued to crush its paws.

“Now throw it Scizor!”

Scizor did as told, and swung Lucario off its feet, proceeding to toss it over its shoulder. Lucario made a rolling landing and quickly got back to its feet.

“Hang in there, Lucario!”

“Scizor, use Metal Claw!”

“Fight back with Force Palm!”

Scizor’s claws and Lucario’s fists rapidly clashed back and forth. Neither was able to score a direct hit. Soon, Scizor found an opening and grabbed Lucario’s fist again.

“Lucario, use Low Kick now!”

While its fist was caught, Lucario swept low with its leg, knocking Scizor off-balance.

“Force Palm now!”

In the split second when both of Scizor’s feet were off the ground and it was about to fall forward, Lucario smashed it in the face with its free hand. Scizor was sent flying and landed hard on its back.

“Scizor, you gotta get up! Use Agility!”

Scizor began zipping towards Lucario again with incredible speed.

“Now use Iron Head!”

Scizor angled itself sideways and shot forward with its wings, both feet off the ground.

“Lucario, Counter!”

Lucario grabbed Scizor as it approached, moved out of the way, and threw it straight back into the ground. Scizor was dazed and slow in getting to its feet.

“Finish it off with Aura Sphere.”

Lucario held both its hands together, spaced slightly apart. In the gap between, a ball of glowing blue energy formed, growing larger and larger. Scizor was still struggling to its feet when suddenly Lucario launched the ball. The Aura Sphere struck Scizor straight in the chest, and the force of the blast shook up a dust cloud. When the dust cleared, Scizor was on the ground, unconscious.

“Scizor is unable to battle. Lucario is the winner!”

“Aww… return, Scizor.”

After a brief thought Gold had decided on his next Pokemon.

“Go, Mamoswine!”

The giant, lumbering Pokemon roared as it was released from its ball. It began getting ready to charge with its deadly tusks. Lucario was not intimidated, however, and struck a fighting pose.

“Don’t give it a chance, Lucario! Aura Sphere!”

Lucario began charging up another Aura Sphere. Mamoswine was powerful, but not fast enough to hit the smaller Lucario before it released its attack. Gold was thinking on his feet. As soon as Lucario shot the Aura Sphere, Gold shouted.

“Mamoswine! Use Blizzard to send it back!”

Rearing back, Mamoswine blew a chilling wind with all of its might. The force of the air blast was enough to slow the Aura Sphere to a stop, and send it hurtling back towards Lucario, whom it struck with tremendous force. Lucario was knocked to its feet.

“Lucario, get in close and use Force Palm!”

Lucario got up and began charging towards Mamoswine, with its fist reared back.

“Stop it in its tracks! Earthquake!”

Mamoswine slammed a heavy foot on the ground with such force that it began to shake. Lucario was thrown off-balance for a split second, and during that time a thin fissure shot straight from Mamoswine’s foot to Lucario. When it reached the Pokemon, a spike of earth shot up from the ground, striking Lucario and sending it into the air.

“Now, use Giga Impact!”

The mammoth Pokemon charged forward, building up incredible momentum. As Lucario was falling back to the ground, Mamoswine struck it with all of its might. Lucario was sent careening straight into the wall behind Cynthia, hitting it hard. Lucario dropped to the floor, unconscious.

“No! Lucario!”

“Lucario is unable to battle. Mamoswine is the winner!”

Cynthia lost her composure, but it was only for a split second and barely noticeable. She returned Lucario without a word and made her next choice.

“Let’s see if you can handle… Garchomp!”

The Dragon-type Garchomp was known for its ferocity, but under the control of an experience trainer, it was even more deadly. This Garchomp burned with cold rage as it stared at Mamoswine, not unlike Cynthia herself when she was angry.

“Hit it with a Dragon Claw attack!”

“No problem. Counter it with Ice Shard, Mamoswine!”

Garchomp tried to strike at Mamoswine with its razor-sharp claws, but in a moment of unlikely speed, Mamoswine coated its tusks in ice and rammed the dragon, dealing a super-effective blow. Garchomp was knocked back by the force of the attack.

“This is a mismatch, Cynthia. Your Garchomp won’t stand a chance against Mamoswine’s icy attacks! You should’ve known that! Mamoswine, use Blizzard!”

At close range, Mamoswine whipped up a devastating blizzard. The vortex of snow and ice enveloped the entire battlefield, obscuring both Pokemon from the view of their trainers.

“Garchomp! No!”

When the snowstorm cleared, Mamoswine stood triumphantly over a Garchomp that was nearly frozen solid.

“Garchomp is unable to battle. Mamoswine is the winner.”

Cynthia’s eyes burned with cold rage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whX6TVUDF-E) and determination, much as her Garchomp’s had moments before.

“Return, Garchomp… Go, Spiritomb!”

Spiritomb was the oddest-looking Pokemon yet. It was surrounded by a creepy aura, and occasionally the mists swirling around inside its orb looked like faces, screaming silently for release.

“Spiritomb is both Dark and Ghost-type, so it has no weaknesses at all! You won’t be able to pull another trick like that. And what’s more, my Spiritomb has a few nasty tricks of its own… like this! Spiritomb, use Curse!”

Spiritomb let out an ear-splitting scream, and some of the swirling mist inside of it left the orb, and proceeded to shoot straight at Mamoswine. The giant Pokemon flinched, but the swirling spirits did not hit it; instead, they swirled around Mamoswine’s head, draining its life force and filling it with negative energy.

“Mamoswine, use Earthquake!”

Though in pain, the Mamoswine did as told, and shook the ground by stamping its feet again. Spiritomb rocked around, taking damage but always landing back on its pedestal.

“Torment it!”

“Earthquake again!”

When Mamoswine tried to create another earthquake, the spirits surrounding it viciously attacked it, only backing off when Mamoswine stopped. Mamoswine was so disoriented by the pain that it couldn’t use Earthquake again.

“Fine, then. Giga Impact!”

Mamoswine charged straight at Spiritomb, getting ready to hit it with full power. As soon as it reached Spiritomb, however, the ghostly Pokemon faded into nothingness, allowing Mamoswine to pass straight through and trip, hitting itself on the ground.

“Time to end this, Spiritomb. Use Dark Pulse!”

Spiritomb reappeared, and dark energy began welling up inside of it. It was preparing to release all of that energy in a huge burst.

“Not so fast! Ice Shard, now!”

Before Spiritomb could release the Dark Pulse, Mamoswine struck it head-on with icy tusks. Spiritomb was launched into the air and landed with thud on the ground. The dark energy from its attack, unable to be released, ate away at Spiritomb itself. The spirits faded away, including the ones around Mamoswine’s head. Mamoswine itself looked about to collapse from exhaustion, but it remained standing.

“Spiritomb is unable to battle. Mamoswine is the winner! Cynthia is out of usable Pokemon, so Gold is the winner of this battle!”

The two trainers recalled their Pokemon, then walked forward and shook hands. The audience of fifteen applauded the outcome of the battle.

“Cynthia, you have been eliminated from the competition, but that does not mean you are done participating. We insist that you stay to watch the rest of the tournament unfold. There are sure to be many exciting battles left! As for the rest of you: you must all vacate the arena for the remainder of the night. There are sleeping quarters for all of you near the side exits, or you may wish to continue training in Cerulean Cave. Have a good night, and stay safe…”

Night 1

As night fell, the trainers inside the cave went their separate ways. While they could not tell the time by the absence or presence of daylight, they were all feeling tired after having ventured to the depths of the cavern to find the arena. Some found a place to sleep, while others, excited, tried to stay awake and train or strategize.

Nurse Joy was sleeping in the quarters assigned to her.

She had known that the other trainers in this tournament were going to be powerful, but she had not known just how good they were until she watched the battle that day. She wondered if she would be good enough to keep up with them. She would soon find out.

A trainer, obscured by the darkness, broke into her room with a loud clatter, startling her awake.

“Defend yourself!”

The trainer threw a Pokeball (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48S_q42YQkw) into the room, and a fierce-looking Zangoose popped out. Joy screamed, then reached for a Pokeball of her own.

“Go, Togekiss!”

“Zangoose, Slash attack!”

Zangoose screeched and, using its razor-sharp claws, slashed viciously at Togekiss, who was unable to maneuver away in the close quarters.

“Togekiss, use Aerial Ace!”

Suddenly, Togekiss zipped up over Zangoose’s head, spun around, and smashed it in the back. Zangoose stumbled and fell to its knees, but quickly jumped back to its feet. Before it could attack again, however, Joy had fled from her room with Togekiss fast behind her.

When Joy and Togekiss reached the arena, it was no longer lit by electric lighting. The mysterious trainer and Zangoose were close behind, and began to continue the battle in the larger space.

“Zangoose, use Crush Claw!”

Zangoose now charged at Togekiss with incredible speed, and attacked it with powerful stabbing motions from its claws. Togekiss was hit again and fluttered backward.

“Togekiss, stay in the air! It can’t hit you there!”

Togekiss quickly took to the skies, soaring around the high ceiling of the arena. Try as it might, Zangoose couldn’t reach Togekiss at that range.

“Never mind the Pokemon! Just get her!”

Menacingly, Zangoose turned its gaze on Joy, and began striding towards her, claws outstretched. Panicking, Joy screamed to her Togekiss.

“Use Air Slash, now!”

Togekiss took a sharp nose dive and flew low, zipping around Zangoose. It whipped up a fierce air current that tore away at Zangoose, who was knocked on its back.

“Psychic attack, now!”

As Zangoose was struggling to get back to its feet, Togekiss’s eyes began to glow with psychic energy. Zangoose was lifted off its feet by telekinesis, and thrown backward, far enough that it crashed into its trainer.

Momentarily safe, Joy rushed over to her Togekiss and hugged it, trying to calm herself down. When she looked over to find the mysterious trainer and Zangoose, however, both were gone.

Maxie had ventured even deeper into Cerulean Cave, and had found a small alcove that he liked.

Maxie really did like Cerulean Cave. It was dark and earthy and reminded him very much of his own secret hideout in the Hoenn region. The only problem was all the water. The water polluted the purity of this cave, which probably even had open magma vents before it was flooded. When Maxie won this tournament and made this cave his new secret hideout, the first thing he would do is get rid of the water. But he hadn’t won yet.

“Go, Persian!”

A shadowy trainer had invaded the privacy of his alcove and was challenging him to battle. There was only one proper response (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ch_puCeHPYk).

“Camerupt! Crush this fool!”

Persian and Camerupt faced each other, each glaring fiercely at the other. Camerupt was much larger, but it would also move much more slowly.

“Camerupt, crush it with Earthquake!”

“Persian, Bounce!”

Camerupt slammed the ground with its hooves, causing the ground to shake, but before Persian was affected it had leapt high into the air. Persian came down with its front claws outstretched, scoring a direct hit on Camerupt’s face. The great Pokemon roared with rage.

“Now, Night Slash!”

Persian blended into the shadowy folds of the cave. Camerupt looked confused as to where to attack next, and before it could react Persian jumped out of the shadows, slashed at Camerupt, and returned to hiding. Maxie was getting frustrated.

“I don’t have time for this nonsense! Camerupt, finish this fool with Overheat!”

The volcano-like protrusions on Camerupt’s back began glowing with heat. Camerupt roared as it kicked its heat-producing ability into full gear. In the small room, the devastating heat wave spread quickly, inducing burns on anything inside it. The shadowy trainer stepped back into the doorway, while Maxie was adapted to such heat and could withstand it. The Persian, however, screeched in pain, fell out of its hiding place, and fainted. The trainer recalled the Persian and left without a word.

Silver was wandering through a series of narrow corridors, restless as usual.

He had noticed somebody following him and had deliberately led himself to a dead end. When he reached the end, he turned around and sure enough, the dark figure threw a Pokeball.

“I challenge you! Go, Blissey!”

If Silver weren’t so humorless, he probably would have burst out laughing. Instead, he gave the trainer a scathing look (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTJrmc-RXzo).

“THIS is what you’ve been stalking me for? Are you serious?”

“Well? Aren’t you going to defend yourself?”

Silver snapped his fingers, and a second shadowy figure slid down out of the ceiling, behind the first shadowy figure and the Blissey. It cackled loudly before revealing itself.

“You were saying?”

The startled trainer and the Blissey tried to escape from Gengar, but it pinned them down with a Mean Look.

“Now, Gengar, use Hypnosis!”

Gengar stared at Blissey as its eyes became a swirling, hypnotic pattern. The trainer could only watch helplessly as Blissey fell under a deadly sleep.

“Dream Eater!”

Now Gengar began to drain the life force from Blissey. Though sleeping, pained expressions crossed its face.

“This is taking too long. Give it a Nightmare and let’s get this over with, Gengar.”

The pained expressions on Blissey’s face now changed to abject terror. It squealed and rocked in its sleep, as Gengar continued to cackle and the horrified trainer could do nothing but stand and watch. Eventually, the Blissey’s nightmares stopped, and it passed out completely.

“Take your weakling Pokemon and get out of here. Don’t bother me again.”

Released from the Gengar’s gaze, the trainer recalled the Blissey and ran as quickly as possible down the tunnel.

The next morning, all of the trainers returned to the arena, which was lit up spectacularly once again. Several of them reported having been ambushed in the night, but they were all able to defeat their unknown assailants. They began voting for who should have the next battle.

We need to have an opponent for chimpyang. Renata, up for it? You handled your Pokemon well yesterday, so I would say you have a decent chance of handling chimpyang. Then again, perhaps we do want to see more people's Pokemon to see who was responsible for last night's attacks (given that I was one of the ones attacked it would be nice to see who owns that Pokemon). But perhaps the reason such weak Pokemon were used for attacks means that they are using Pokemon outside their duel line-up for night attacks.

This is scummy. We all know what pokemon she has, since I have 3 to her 2 and I can look up their types. I can tweak my setup to guarantee a win (almost). Uh, my understanding is that 3 is all way have, period. The original 6 was just a pool from which we chose the 3 we wanted to keep for the rest of the tournament.

I did not vote for her, I simply asked her if she was willing to fight again, seeing as yesterday went well. When ATPG seeked the nomination, I voted for him.

Day 2

The trainers all cast their votes once again, and as soon as the outcome was determined, the loud, omnipresent voice spoke once more.

“Greetings, trainers. Today, the competitors you have chosen to do battle are: Pearl, Champion of the Sinnoh Region, and Ruby, Champion of the Hoenn Region! This is sure to be an exciting battle! Pearl, please proceed to the blue corner, while Ruby goes to the red corner.”

Pearl was nervous. She was an excellent Pokemon trainer, but she had only battled a Champion once before, and it happened to be that former Champion who was crushed in the opening round of the tournament.

Ruby, however, was eager and ready to fight (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEwAPnIev38). Without waiting for the announcer to speak again, he tossed his Pokeball into the ring.

“Go, Magcargo!”

Pearl quickly psyched herself up for the battle and sent out her own Pokemon.

“A fire-type… then I’ll use Empoleon!”

It was too early to tell, but it looked as if the match were to be rather one-sided. Magcargo’s strength lay in its durability, but all that was lost battling against a water-type opponent. Empoleon was faster, stronger, and had an obvious type advantage.

“Magcargo, use Stealth Rock!”

The snail-like Pokemon made a gesture with its head, and about half a dozen rocks dislodged themselves from the walls, levitating quickly to the edge of the arena. The stones then dropped in their place, and did absolutely nothing. Pearl and Empoleon looked wary for a moment, but seeing no danger, they continued.

“You wasted your chance. Empoleon, use Hydro Pump!”

From its mouth, Empoleon launched a massive, powerful jet of water that struck Magcargo right in the face. Unable to move quickly enough away, Magcargo withered under the powerful blast. When it stopped, the poor creature was barely able to hold itself up.

“Hang in there, Magcargo! Use Lava Plume!”

With surprising agility, Magcargo shot a jet of magma at Empoleon. The penguin Pokemon tried to dodge, but the blast grazed its steel-tipped wings, and it roared angrily.

“Finish it off!”

Empoleon leapt into the air and shot another Hydro Pump at Magcargo, crushing it into the floor of the battlefield. Magcargo could take no more, and fainted from the attack.

“Magcargo is unable to battle. Empoleon is the winner!”

“Good job, Magcargo. Return!”

Ruby looked as if he had known the outcome of that matchup before it had started- and he probably did. Now, however, a devious grin crossed his face as he tossed in his next Pokemon.

“Go, Manectric!”

Now it was Ruby who was to have the advantage. The electric canine’s attacks were sure to deal a lot of damage to Empoleon.

“Manectric, start charging up!”

Manectric stood in place and started to crackle with static electricity. Soon it began to glow, but it wasn’t going to be left alone.

“Stop it, Empoleon! Use Flash Cannon!”

A beam of light shot from Empoleon’s mouth at… well, light-speed, striking Manectric and knocking off its focus.

“Use Agility! Keep charging and don’t let it get to you.”

Empoleon attempted to fire another Flash Cannon at Manectric, but this time it moved so quickly out of the way, it almost appeared as if Manectric were teleporting. Try as it might, Empoleon could not hit Manectric, as it just kept dodging out of the way, all the while charging up with more electricity.

“Hit it with Aqua Jet!”

This time, Empoleon coated itself in water and lurched forward, sliding along the ground at a pace it could never reach by running. When it approached Manectric, the Pokemon agilely zipped out of the way again, but Empoleon changed direction just as quickly. Catching Manectric off guard, Empoleon slammed into it with a full-body tackle, catching its side with the trident-shaped horns on its head.

“No! Manectric!”

Manectric looked hurt, but it was far from finished, even though its concentration was broken. On the other hand, Empoleon, who had come into contact with the static field around Manectric, was paralyzed and having trouble getting back up.

“That’ll have to do. Use Discharge!”

Manectric released all of the electricity stored inside it in a massive, radial blast that engulfed nearly the entire field. Empoleon, covered in water and just a few feet away from Manectric, took the full brunt of the attack and was electrocuted devastatingly. When Manectric was done, Empoleon had been knocked unconscious.

“Empoleon is unable to battle. Manectric is the winner!”

Pearl looked especially worried now. She took a moment in choosing her next Pokemon, but when she was ready, the façade of fearlessness was back on her face.

“Return, Empoleon. Go, Vespiquen!”

As soon as the queen bee came out of its Pokeball, the rocks that had surrounded the field all began stirring. One by one, they smashed into Vespiquen before it could even put up its guard. By the time they had finished, Vespiquen already looked in worse shape than Manectric.

“Oh, no! Vespiquen, you’ve gotta heal yourself! Heal Order!”

Hundreds of tiny bee-like creatures flew out of the honeycombs on Vespiquen’s abdomen and swarmed around it. They began repairing the damage that had been done to the queen.

“Don’t give it a chance, Manectric! Thunder Fang!”

Its jaws crackling with electricity, Manectric surged towards Vespiquen, who was temporarily unable to move. Running into a leap, Manectric clamped its jaws tight around Vespiquen’s midsection, and overloaded its body with electricity through its sharp fangs. Vespiquen made an unpleasant sound that was conspicuously reminiscent of a scream. Many of the bees surrounding them were zapped and fried by stray bolts.

“No! Vespiquen!”

As Manectric released its deadly grip, Vespiquen collapsed to the ground and did not get back up.

“Vespiquen is unable to battle. Manectric is the winner!”

Ruby looked smug as Pearl returned her fried Pokemon to its ball.

“Well, that was quick.”

Pearl closed her eyes, calmed herself, and threw her third Pokeball. A majestic creature with rich, black fur materialized on the battlefield (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1hBm4LRZRw).

“Luxray, use Wild Charge!”

Its fur beginning to bristle with electricity of its own, Luxray charged fiercely straight towards Manectric. One of the fallen Stealth Rock stones hopped up and struck it in the face as it passed by. This only served to enrage Luxray, however, and it roared fiercely and doubled its pace.

“Manectric, use your Agility!”

Manectric tried to run away, but Luxray gave chase. Luxray soon caught up to the already-tired Manectric, and once in range leapt straight onto it with a full electrical aura surrounding it. The two electric Pokemon fell into a tumble and wrestled with each other for a few seconds, but a slightly winded Luxray emerged on top. Manectric struggled to break its adversary’s grip, but Luxray was larger and physically stronger.

Now it was Ruby who started to panic a bit. He quickly thought back to all he had studied about the Sinnoh region’s Pokemon, and found the one advantage he needed.

“Manectric! Use Discharge!”

Suddenly, Manectric exploded with electricity, much of it building off of Luxray’s power as well. Luxray was blasted into the air, and landed on its feet, unsteadily, a few yards away. Manectric got up as quickly as it could.

“Luxray, use Crunch!”

Luxray sprinted into a fierce charge heading straight for Manectric again. Another close-quarters confrontation would be disastrous to Manectric.

“Manectric, you can’t let it get near you! Use Discharge and Agility, just don’t let it touch you!”

Manectric and Luxray now engaged in what was essentially a game of cat and mouse- or rather, very large cat and dog. Luxray chased Manectric, but after being itself winded, it could not keep up with the lighter, faster Manectric. Whenever Luxray cornered Manectric or got too close, Manectric would respond with a wide-reaching Discharge to keep it back. As Luxray was only able to release its electricity effectively at close range, it was unable to land a concrete attack on Manectric. It soon began to tire out.

“Luxray, you’re going to have to charge through its attacks! It’s the only way! Wild Charge!”

“Manectric, start charging!”

Luxray bristled fiercely with electricity once more, and began another sprint towards Manectric. Manectric stood its ground, charging itself up with power. As soon as Luxray was close enough, Ruby shouted.

“Now, Manectric!”

Manectric discharged the electricity it had stored, and continued to hold out the field. Luxray, following orders, charged straight into the field and kept moving. Luxray still had several yards to go, though, and it began to move slower and slower, till it was finally struggling to even step forward through the devastating blast of electricity.

“Keep holding!”

Manectric was clearly straining itself to hold out the field. After a second or two, it shorted out, unable to fight any longer. But the damage was done. Both Pokemon were so exhausted they were unable to move. They stood in a standoff, panting heavily for what seemed like hours, though it amounted to less than a minute. Finally, Luxray capitulated.

“Luxray is unable to battle. Manectric is the winner! As Pearl is out of usable Pokemon, Ruby is the winner of this match!”

Ruby pumped his fist in the air and cheered. Pearl looked disheartened, but not completely crushed. She waited until the announcer was done speaking and Ruby had left the field, and then made her own announcement. A giddy, adorable smile cracked across her face.

“Well, actually… I did bring one more Pokemon with me, just in case. I thought it might be useful with all these attacks going on at night and everything! So, it’s really only for my own protection, but I guess if you wanted to battle me again… that would be ok with me!”

The rest of the trainers were dumbfounded as she giggled and quickly left the arena.

It takes 50% damage when it switches into Stealth Rock (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Stealth_Rock), so it only had half of it's HP ready when Manetric attacked; the Garchomp we saw yesterday, on the other hand, had full health and was one-shot by Mamoswine's Ice Shard.

Ironic really, that such a controversial Pokémon (banned in competitive play (http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/garchomp)!) has currently turned out to be the weakest we've seen so far. :P

Not Ice Shard, Blizzard. Packs a bit of a bigger punch, specially when it's a 4X weakness. With STAB, that's a 720-power attack, I don't care how strong that Garchomp was! :laugh4:

So, justified? I'd say so. But do keep in mind that, while I try to stay more true to the games than, say, the anime TV show, I do have to take some theatrical license to make things interesting.

I do enjoy constantly having someone to banter with in nerdy Poke-lingo, though, Secura. Keep it up! :laugh4:

Stealth Rock is Rock. Vespiqueen is Bug/Flying. SR got 4x damage.

Yeah, well, it is Ground/Dragon. Ice does 4x damage.

Pretty much any situation where a move can do 4x damage and has a minimum of base power turns out to be a 1HKO.

On one hand, it defies common knowledge about there only being 3 pokemon that a trainer could select, yet it seems too blatant a tell and surely if Seon was sent to battle again he would be swiftly crushed, unless his last pokemon is like something all rounded (because Seon has one life to lose so to speak, but most others have 3

I agree that having more than 4 pokemon seems weird in Seon's case, but it also seems a bit odd that this would become common knowledge and the result would likely be him simply being sent into the next battle as well, and this time with the odds mismatched against him.

I'm not sure about the significance of it all, but it seems to me like a get out of jail free card that when used turns every other square into a go straight to jail square for your next move.

Which is essentially the same situation as every other more typical lynch survival situation I've ever seen, which is why I hate them so much. If it's a scum, you have to try again, and who knows if the town will retain its resolve for a second day. If a townie -- well really you should lynch them twice, because they were scummy enough to lynch the first time, but if it's wrong you've just spent two days wasting time -- which in turn feeds right back in to the likelyhood of the scum NOT being lynched a second time. It just .. gah. Obey the will of the mob, fer pete's sake.

Anyway -- Seon please explain better.

Excuse me if I sound slightly more quirky Han usual, but I just ha a row with a friend.

Now, about the darn 4th pokemon of mine. Well, I said when I was reading my role PM. This is nice, I get a fourth pokemon instead of three like everyone else! Yeah, cheating for the win!

And then I got selected to battle. Oh darn, I said. But I thought to myself: I have four and he has three. I can handle it. Unless he used an electric type, cutting through both my Empoleon Vespiqueen. Oh hmm...

So when the results were announced, I panicked and contacted Chaotix to change my pokemon battle order. Chaotix, being a man of great mercy, politely replied "sorry man. Already rolled. Oh, and you lost."

So I slinked back and started moping around, waiting to see the writeup to proclaim my death/elimination. And then I looked and saw that my fourth have not been used, and that I was not eliminated. It was a pleasant surprise. Yay!

And then I started hearing things that I should be lynched again. For god's sake, I only have one bloody pokemon left. You people already ruined whatever chance I had in winning this competition. I already explained why I have a fourth pokemon as much as possible. I don't know why I didn't use my 4th. What else do you want from me?

What excuse?

It was in The Settlement (Look it up). The one making the excuse was Andres (Who was my mafia teammate). The game was set up so the town had several classes, which could be largely divided into nobles and non-nobles. By pure luck, until he was found, he had killed 3 townies which were nobles. So he tried using the excuse that he had specific targets, which were nobles. And since he had no beef with the whole of the town, then they wouldn't need to kill him, and since he had a kill ability, from then on, the town could use his ability to their advantage. In good truth, he could (and had to) kill all townies, regardless of whether they were noblemen or not. He actually managed to convince some to spare him, but not enough and he ended up lynched anyway.

Night 2

As night fell, the trainers scattered themselves throughout the cave once again, each finding their own new safe places to stay. After Joy had related her tale of the night before to the rest of them, not a single trainer dared to sleep in the rooms provided near the arena.

Maxie was in a large, cavernous chamber covered mostly by an underground lake.

It appeared as if he were trying to make his Camerupt evaporate all of the water. Unfortunately, it did not occur to him that even if that were possible, the water vapor would have nowhere to go and condense right back into the lake again. Nonetheless, he was making a valiant effort (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ch_puCeHPYk).

He didn’t even notice when somebody threw a Pokeball with a loud splash into the water. That is, until a huge Gyarados burst up from under the surface.

“Well… that’s not good.”

“Camerupt, use Eruption now!”

Camerupt roared, and the water underneath Gyarados began bubbling fiercely. A massive jet of lava spewed up from underneath the lake, striking Gyarados in the face. If possible, Gyarados looked even more enraged than it normally did.

“Gyarados! Use Hydro Pump!”

The mysterious trainer was shouting orders from the other side of the lake, and was obscured from Maxie’s view. Gyarados launched a huge torrent of water from its mouth, thoroughly dousing both Camerupt and its trainer. Maxie returned his fainted Camerupt as he rose to his feet, and tossed out another Pokemon to battle.

“Go! Cacturne!”

The cactus Pokemon looked far more suited to take on Gyarados than Camerupt was. Gyarados was still raging, however, and did not look ready to quit any time soon.

“Use Pin Missile, Cacturne!”

Holding out its arms, Cacturne began firing a barrage of needles at Gyarados. Gyarados didn’t bother to dodge out of the way, but the needles couldn’t so much as scratch its thick hide. Instead, Gyarados was made more angry by the attack, and began recklessly attacking with Hydro Pump. Cacturne, luckily, was resistant to water-based attacks.

“Alright then… try Needle Arm!”

Gyarados had moved close enough to the edge of the water that it was in reach, so this time, Cacturne swung its prickly arm and smashed it right into Gyarados, who roared in pain this time.

“Gyarados, stay out of reach! Use Hyper Beam!”

Gyarados did as told and moved back, all the while firing a devastating Hyper Beam at Cacturne. The blast took a lot out of Cacturne, but it still managed to stay standing. It couldn’t reach Gyarados, though, and the sea dragon was rearing up for another Hyper Beam. Maxie came up with an ingenious idea.

“Cacturne, just jump onto it with your Needle Arm!”

Cacturne got a running start and leapt over the water, reaching out with both arms to grab Gyarados. The needles on its arms dug into Gyarados’ midsection and allowed Cacturne to stay attached, tearing away at Gyarados’ body while at the same time unreachable by it. Gyarados roared in pain.

“Thrash it! Drown it, now!”

It took little encouragement for Gyarados to begin thrashing wildly. Cacturne held on tight, but was being thrown about like a Safari Ranger riding a Tauros. Soon the Gyarados got the idea to go underwater. When Cacturne was finally thrown off, it landed with a thud next to Maxie, water-logged and unconscious.

“Grr… fine, then. Go, Crobat!”

Unlike Maxie’s previous two Pokemon, Crobat had the advantage of mobility, and Gyarados now looked tired out.

“Use Cross Poison, now!”

Crobat secreted a poisonous substance and spread it throughout its entire body. Then it shot with lightning speed at Gyarados, seemingly passing straight through it. It took a moment for the blow to register with Gyarados, and then its face fell straight into the water, not rising again. The trainer returned it to its Pokeball, and Maxie looked triumphant.

“Hah! That’ll teach you to mess with Team Magma! Bahahaha!”

The hidden trainer, not amused, simply threw out another Pokeball.

The Claydol levitated eerily over the underground lake, staring at Crobat with its six eyes. Crobat was slightly unnerved, but otherwise in top shape.

“Claydol, Psychic attack!”

Claydol’s eyes glowed with psychic energy, and suddenly Crobat was flung out of the air and into the cavern wall by an unseen force. Crobat was winded, but not finished yet.

“Retaliate with Air Slash!”

Crobat zipped past Claydol, and an air current ripped away at Claydol’s body, knocking it around in the air.

“Now use Crunch!”

Now Crobat swooped in close and bit down hard on Claydol’s face. It began dragging it around in the air like a chew toy.

“Yes! Submerge it in the lake!”

With a flinging motion, Crobat launched Claydol from its toothy grip directly into the lake below. Once in the water, Claydol was unable to levitate out of it. Oddly enough, it was like a demented sitting duck. The mysterious trainer cursed inaudibly, then shouted a final order to Claydol before beating a hasty retreat.

“Explosion, now!”

Claydol shone with a bright light and then spontaneously combusted, throwing Maxie and his Crobat to the wall and creating a handy cover of steam for the trainer to escape. When Maxie got up, he found his Crobat hurt, but still ok to battle. Maxie swore to himself never to camp out next to water again. He just couldn’t trust the stuff.

Gold was wandering through a series of narrow corridors when he heard footsteps following behind him.

He quickly turned around and sent out his Mamoswine to defend himself. The huge beast was able to fit in the corridor, but it scarcely had and room to maneuver and dodge a possible attack. Gold was hoping simply to rely on durability and brute force (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTJrmc-RXzo).

“Go, Charizard!”

The flame on Charizard’s tail lit up the small corridor adequately enough to see it clearly. This Charizard looked large, well-trained, and incredibly ferocious. Gold twiddled his thumbs nervously. Clearly Mamoswine’s brand of brute force was not going to work on this thing.

“Fire Blast, now!”

As the trainer behind it had planned, Mamoswine had no room to dodge the devastating inferno that hurtled straight towards it. Mamoswine was struck in the face at point-blank range, and was felled almost instantly.

“Return, Mamoswine… Go, Ampharos!”

“Ampharos, use Thunderbolt!”

Ampharos’ own tail lit up the corridor even further, and then proceeded to launch a powerful electric bolt straight at Charizard. At Gold’s direction, Ampharos flooded the fire dragon with electricity, holding the current open for as long possible. Charizard continued to stand still as it was continually electrocuted.

“Enough playing, around, Charizard. Just finish this thing off already.”

As soon as it was instructed, Charizard gave a great flap of its wings, stood its ground, and instantly broke the electric current. It hardly looked fazed by the super-effective electric attack, and with a devious glint in its eyes it launched another Fire Blast.

“Ampharos! No!”

Though Ampharos was certainly much smaller than Mamoswine and might have even been able to dodge the attack, it knew that Gold was standing right behind it. Acting as a barrier to protect its trainer, Ampharos took the full brunt of the attack, and dropped like a fly afterwards.

Anger and fear burned equally in Gold’s eyes as he stood face to face with this extremely powerful Charizard, awaiting his own fate. The opposing trainer did not look as if to have any intent of ending the battle with just the Pokemon. However, just in time, the three of them heard footsteps and shouting coming from behind the mysterious trainer. The trainer quickly returned Charizard to its ball and sprinted down a side branch, disappearing from view.

“Hello there! Are you alright?”

Nurse Joy looked slightly out of breath from running.

“I heard what sounded like a battle, so I hurried over to help… are your Pokemon ok?”

Gold released his Mamoswine and Ampharos to show Joy.

“They’re scorched… the other guy had a wicked Charizard. He was about to burn me, too.”

“Oh, my! I’m afraid even if I help one of these two they won’t be able to protect you immediately. Why don’t you show me your Scizor?”

Gold sent out his Scizor, who was still weary from the battle the day before, while Joy released her Chansey.

“Chansey! Use Softboiled!”

The Chansey set to work healing up Scizor. In a moment or two it was as if it had never lost.

“There! Scizor should be able to protect you now, just in case… though I wouldn’t send it up against that Charizard.”

“Oh, I know that much already! Thanks, Nurse Joy!”

The two trainers went their separate ways.

Some time later, Nurse Joy had found herself a wide-open cavern to rest in. She was wary, though, and quickly stirred awake as soon she heard someone else’s footsteps.

“Go, Togekiss!”

Neither the trainer nor the Magnezone made a sound. Magnezone simply floated ever closer towards Joy and her Togekiss, with a menacing, piercing stare.

“Togekiss, use Double-Edge!”

With blistering speed, Togekiss zipped off the ground and plummeted straight into Magnezone with great force. The attack would have normally inflicted major damage, but Magnezone was made of solid steel. Instead, while Magnezone was thrown off course and crashed into the ground, Togekiss itself looked like it had been hit with a ton of bricks.

“Thunderbolt.”

Magnezone levitated itself magnetically again, and then launched a powerful electric attack straight at Togekiss. Togekiss yelped in pain, and was electrocuted for several long seconds before it managed to break away.

“Togekiss, use Psychic!”

“Thunder Wave.”

Togekiss tried to move Magnezone with psychic power, but it was quickly cut off when Magnezone released a radial electric field that struck and paralyzed it, dropping it to the ground.

“Magnet Bomb.”

Magnezone released a powerful magnetic blast aimed directly at Togekiss. When it struck, Togekiss was launched straight backwards until it crashed into a wall. It then dropped to the ground, unconscious.

“Oh no, Togekiss! Return now… go, Miltank!”

Joy was nervous now. Without Togekiss, Miltank was the last Pokemon capable of defending her… Chansey happened to be more of a lover than a fighter.

“Miltank, use Rollout!”

Miltank got a running start, then leapt forward, rolled up into a ball, and kept rolling, picking up speed. Miltank started to speed around the cavern, avoiding Magnezone at first.

“Careful, Magnezone…”

When Miltank struck, it caught Magnezone from behind. The attack knocked Magnezone to the floor, and Miltank kept rolling, ever faster. Miltank came hurtling back at double speed for another attack.

“Magnet Rise.”

With a sudden burst, Magnezone levitated itself high up into the air, allowing Miltank to pass harmlessly underneath and collide with the wall behind it. Dazed, Miltank slowly started to get back up.

“Thunderbolt! Don’t let it escape.”

Magnezone blasted Miltank with electric current, continuing to electrocute it. Miltank was paralyzed in place and unable to escape. It soon fainted from the pressure. Joy, shaking, returned it to its ball.

“Chansey… do your best.”

Chansey’s cheerful demeanor was replaced with protective anger, but it still didn’t look especially threatening.

“Use Egg Bomb!”

Chansey began to throw fake, explosive eggs at Magnezone, but it was unused to battling and its aim was off. Magnezone easily dodged the attacks and floated close to Chansey until they were face-to-face.

“Thunderbolt.”

A close-range thunderbolt was all it took to send Chansey flying into the wall for a knockout blow. Joy, quivering in fear, returned her last Pokemon. And then… nothing.

The trainer returned Magnezone to its ball, and quietly left without another word. Joy was left dumbstruck.

The next morning, all of the trainers returned for the next round of battles. They talked amongst themselves about the next round of attacks until the announcer began to speak.

“Greetings, trainers. Unfortunately, it seems that Nurse Joy no longer has any Pokemon left to battle with, so she has been eliminated from the tournament. The wild Pokemon of Cerulean Cave can be fierce. Perhaps it is wiser merely to stay in the rooms provided for you during the night. Anyway, let the voting begin!”

I can't think of any other people with Charizards, with the possible exception of Lance, the (former) Elite 4 champion of the Kanto Region, and Clair, his cousin, and gym leader of the Blackthorn City gym in the Johto Region.

There might have been a few more dragon users in the various Elite 4s, but its late, so good night.

I had no idea Seon was talking about a real life row, so I just assumed he was using it as an excuse to make up why he had an extra pokemon (Special Objective/Rivalry with another guy which allows him to have special conditions/etc). Since English is not my native language, I can't promise to completely understand the idiosincracy of every phrase in context.

I got this PM from B_ray two minutes prior to the first night write-up.

In regards to the on-going Pokemon trainer tournament in the depths of Cerulean Cave, I wanted to congratulate you on an extremely impressive win! Also, I wondered if I could interest you in a personal "alliance" of sorts. With only two of your Pokemeon left, the rest of our competitors will likely try to vote you into the next match as soon as possible, in an effort to eliminate you before they have to face the fearsome Mamoswine themselves. Though I'm only one man, I can assure you that I'll do my best to keep others from voting you into a match before the final round, if you can prosime the same for me.

Do consider my offer, and congratulations again!

Me being who I am, naturally my little bat ears perked up. Ooh, flattery and a promise of an alliance that would protect a putative mafia B_ray from the lynch while hurting them not at all as regards me? (I wasn't going to be lynched anyway after diving in headfirst on day one; and knowing my toughest Pokemon, they'd have very good odds of taking me out at night if they were to try.) So I was what you might say, interested. I was also under the impression the PM had been sent after the day had started, with B_ray drawing a vote almost right off the bat, which sort of added to things. (I see now it was actually sent *before* the day started, which if anything is even more interesting. How did B_ray know either of us would still be alive?)

Anyway, while I was still mulling over that, I got this PM from robbiecon:

I could potentially heal your Scizor, as I am Nurse Joy. But it is a one-off healing ability.

I replied that I would appreciate it if he did; robbiecon's return PM, while not committing fully, was encouraging that he would. (Obviously, he did, and it means the mafia will have to attack me one more time than otherwise. Good timing.) However, meanwhile in the thread, robbiecon had suggested I might fight again, I replied to B_ray stating I was OK with a one day alliance to be renegotiated as needed, and by the way, had he noticed that robbiecon was already after me to fight again? robbie being an almost dead-certain innocent at that point, I was curious to see what B_ray would do. He did this, in public response to robbie:

Oh come now, she's already proven herself. Trying to eliminate the weakened players first? I disapprove.

So, more flattery of sorts, plus going after robbie without actually placing a vote, even though the vote he did have (on Seon) he said was only random.

All of this together (plus my near-death last night coincidentally upon the expiration of our cease-fire agreement), would probably have me voting for B_ray today, except for this from last night:

Are we even sure that there is such thing as a scum role in this game?

It almost seems *too* obvious as a post from a mafia.

Regardless, if I don't bring this up now, than I may never be able to, since a lone Scizor doesn't seem very likely to survive against whatever the mafia have left.

I can't tell if this is just naivete or something more sinister, but I think you warrant further scrutiny.

a lone Scizor doesn't seem very likely to survive against whatever the mafia have left.

Jeez, I was almost late to my own lynching. So, there have been some interesting developments since yesterday. I see Renata has decided to make our agreement a matter of public knowledge, which is fine, though I am nearly baffled at the conclusions she draws from it and the other events. Still, I can see how one in her shoes might perceive these events as being somehow related, having so little to go on. And I do appreciate your decision to somewhat uphold our agreement by not voting for me... even though you managed to draw a number of votes my way in doing so. :ahh: I'll still stick to my side of the agreement, though, for however little that is worth at this point...

As the immediate matter of who to vote for, I've got nothing constructive to offer the group. So much suspicion, and so very little evidence. Normally I would turn to a truly unbiased arbiter at this time: The Random Number Generator (http://www.random.org/). But as it stands now, the votes are cast in such a way that I am in immediate peril of elimination through combat. So protecting my own hide will take priority. If I count correctly, Saregona has received 4 votes, myself 3, and Seon 2. So I stand a chance to avoid a certain duel by casting my own vote for Seon.

Just got done analyzing last night's battles (I know, it's been a busy day for me).
There is definitely something strange about that Charizard. Renata's Ampharos should have had a good, bordering on unbeatable chance of victory, since electric is super-effective against flying, and flying is not very effective against electric while fire is only moderately. In fact, chaotix points this out for us.
"As soon as it was instructed, Charizard gave a great flap of its wings, stood its ground, and instantly broke the electric current. It hardly looked fazed by the super-effective electric attack, and with a devious glint in its eyes it launched another Fire Blast."

I think if and when we find our Charizard owner, it will be time for a uni-boot, especially given the "The opposing trainer did not look as if to have any intent of ending the battle with just the Pokemon" clause. By contrast, I'm going to guess for the moment that the Magnezone owner may be a vig, based on the not-killing of Nurse Joy.

If the attackers use up their pokemon and don't have extras, then there's a good chance Maxie's attacker is completely vulnerable if discovered, because he lost two last night and may well have been one of the attackers the first night.

The other question is, we had three attacks both nights. If the charizard attacker attacked on the first night, why didn't they use charizard then? Granted, it's perfectly reasonable that one of the attackers from the first night wouldn't have attacked again, not wanting to risk the loss of more pokemon.

The mafia probably swithed the order of their 3 pokemon, or the have access to all 6 pokemon, meaning the mafia could easily use 2 sets of pokemon, one for night and one for day.
Which means we wouldn't be able to tell who the mafia are by seeing which pokemon they have.

Day 3

That day, many of the trainers were nervous about the attacks that occurred the night before, and many accusations flew around. In a while, though, most of them had calmed down, and they were able to make a decision on the duel of the day. It occurred to some of the trainers that, provided they could defeat the suspect of course, the duels could be used to test whether or not trainers were guilty of attacking at night. When they were finished voting, the announcer spoke once again.

“Greetings, trainers! Today, you have decided that the match is to be between: Red, the undefeated Kanto Champion, and Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket. It looks like this is going to be a grudge match, folks- those two have quite a history. Giovanni should proceed to the blue corner, and as is only natural, Red will take the red corner.”

Giovanni and Red stared each other down from opposite sides of the battlefield. A fire burned in their eyes, and each had an intense desire to defeat the other.

It was rumored that those who he defeated, even the Gym Leaders and the Elite Four, had never seen him speak. In response to Giovanni’s threat, Red selected a Pokeball from his belt and held it out, goading the mob boss. Giovanni chuckled and selected his own Pokemon as well.

“Let the battle begin!”

“Go, Honchkrow!”

Red had chosen to lead off with his Pikachu. It was agile, intelligent, and trained to be frighteningly powerful. None but those who had battled Red before could come to expect the incredible electric potential that the small rodent had. Giovanni’s Honchkrow looked formidable as well, but it would be at a distinct disadvantage.

Without having to be ordered by its trainer, Pikachu launched a powerful Thunderbolt straight at Honchkrow. The blast knocked the bird straight out of the sky. Honchkrow struggled to get back up, but it was strong enough to take to the air again.

“Honchkrow! Use Torment!”

Honchkrow screeched, and emanated a dark aura from its body which passed over Pikachu. As Pikachu tried to fight back with another Thunderbolt, it looked suddenly as if it felt an intense pain and nausea, and had to stop its attack.

“Now use Dark Pulse!”

Honchkrow now began firing blasts of dark energy from its mouth. Though Pikachu couldn’t attack with Thunderbolt, it was still far faster than Honchkrow, and it used its Agility to avoid the attacks.

“Taunt it, Honchkrow!”

Now Honchkrow did as told and screeched in Pikachu’s face as it swooped by, daring it to attack. Pikachu tried to use Thunderbolt again, but felt the wave of nausea pass over it.

“Now, Dark Pulse!”

Honchkrow began readying up for another attack. Pikachu stole a quick glance at Red, who merely nodded at it. When Honchkrow launched the Dark Pulse, Pikachu sidestepped out of the way, and began surrounding itself in a massive aura of electricity.

“Honchkrow, get away! Into the air!”

Pikachu wasn’t about to let Honchkrow escape now. Using Volt Tackle, its most powerful attack, Pikachu leapt high into the air, still surrounded by the dense electrical field, and struck Honchkrow in the chest. The bird screeched in terrible pain, and dropped like a rock again- this time with Pikachu on top of it, surging an electrical current through its body. After what it deemed a sufficient amount of time, Pikachu hopped off of Honchkrow and the aura disappeared. Honchkrow was fried and unconscious.

“Honchkrow is unable to battle. Pikachu is the winner!”

“You’ll pay for that… Go, Nidoking!”

As powerful as it was, Pikachu’s electric attacks would have no effect on the ferocious Nidoking. Giovanni had made the right choice.

As soon as Nidoking was out of the ball, Pikachu charged straight towards it with blinding Agility. It leapt into the air, and began spinning as its tail began to glow. At the peak of its jump, Pikachu struck Nidoking in the face with its Iron Tail attack. Nidoking roared in pain and swatted Pikachu away from it.

“Yes! Use Earthquake!”

Nidoking slammed the ground with its feet, causing it to shake violently. A small fissure shot towards Pikachu, and the earth spiked up underneath it, dealing a powerful blow.

“Hit it with Mega Punch!”

Pikachu tried using Thunderbolt on Nidoking as it advanced, but even against that level of voltage, Nidoking was completely grounded. While it was still in the air, Nidoking smashed Pikachu with its fist, sending it plummeting back into the ground. Red was calm, but the smirk no longer crossed his face.

“Now finish it with Horn Drill!”

Pikachu tried to use its Agility to escape, but Nidoking took its time and caused tremors again, throwing the electric mouse off its balance. Seizing the opportunity it was given, Nidoking struck Pikachu with its sharp front horn. Pikachu collapsed to the ground, unable to get back up.

“Pikachu is unable to battle. Nidoking is the winner!”

Red, still silent, recalled his Pikachu and sent out a new Pokemon, all in the same masterful motion (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDOtEeI8sOQ).

Like Pikachu, Red’s Espeon looked to be trained to be incredibly powerful, and it was fully capable of battling without explicit orders.

“Nidoking, Earthquake!”

Before Nidoking could act, Espeon’s eyes began to glow, and it stopped Nidoking in its tracks with Psychic force. Then it lifted Nidoking into the air, and sent it hurtling into the cave ceiling. After the crash at the top, Espeon sent it plummeting right back down to the floor, followed by launching it backwards into the wall behind Giovanni.

“Gah! How can it be so powerful??”

Nidoking slid down the side of the wall and landed with a thump, too dazed and winded to rise and fight.

“Nidoking is unable to battle. Espeon is the winner!”

Cursing under his breath, Giovanni sent out his last Pokemon, as the smug look returned to Red’s face.

“Go! Kangaskhan! Gwahahaha! I saved the best for last!”

“Kangaskhan, use Comet Punch!”

Kangaskhan balled up its claws into fists, mobilized itself, and started swinging wildly at Espeon. Espeon, who was quick on its feet, managed to avoid all attacks except the last. Kangaskhan caught it in a mistake and smashed it across a few yards.

Espeon looked at Red for guidance, and probably communicated telepathically with him. Regardless of the truth, Espeon formed a Reflect screen in from of it, and the next time Kangaskhan swung by with Comet Punch, its attack bounced straight off of the barrier.

“Fine then! Night Slash!”

Kangaskhan raked Espeon with its sharp claws, shattering the reflective screen and damaging Espeon significantly. Espeon now held Kangaskhan in place with Psychic energy, not wanting it to take another attack. Then, after glancing over at Red, the gem on its forehead began to glow.

“Kangaskhan, you must escape!”

Espeon launched a devastating Focus Blast attack, striking Kangaskhan with tremendous force. It was flung into the wall almost as powerfully as Nidoking was before. Nonetheless, Kangaskhan fell unconscious after the blow.

“Kangaskhan is unable to battle. Espeon is the winner! Since Giovanni is out of usable Pokemon, that means Red is the winner of this battle! Giovanni, unfortunately you have been eliminated from the competition.”

Giovanni was sullen, Red triumphant, and the rest of the group stood in awe of the huge power contained inside Red’s Pokemon. They began to get ready for the night.

Skimmed the thread super quick, didn't see much to comment on, then within the span of a few seconds re-focused my mind onto work, and it never came up again.

On a general (somewhat irrelevant but queer) observation that just reoccurred to me now pertaining to last night phase's write up:

Nurse Joy was clearly engaged by a trainer but the announcer fellow states:

The wild Pokemon of Cerulean Cave can be fierce. Perhaps it is wiser merely to stay in the rooms provided for you during the night.

I'm going to get myself in trouble if you guys keep questioning me. I'm not inclined to give very serious answers.

I was about to post "because Seon is my mafia partner" but I'll be more productive: I didn't have a reason so much as an instinct.

At the moment, B Ray showed up to spare himself, and was a bit wordy about it. It's obvious why he was voting, pure self interest. It doesn't take quite so many words to express that concept, and the smiley faces literally seemed thrown in there to indicate emotion, which is a great way of faking emotions you're not feeling. I used to consider it a better-than-nothing scum tell until people began wising up about that, but B_Ray hasn't been around long enough to be familiar with the SkyNet system.

I don't think B_Ray was mafia just because of his role; we've seen Maxie in the game, he's the Team Magma boss... does that automatically make him scum? You're typecasting based on someone's role, I doubt that this game is going to be as obvious as that.

Since we've seen Red use Pikachu and Espeon (my absolute favourite <3), it's a decent enough guess that he has the team used at the end of GSC/HGSS, which is fairly diverse itself and wouldn't require much tinkering by the host; therefore, I'd expect Saregona to also have Snorlax, Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard.

It's not exactly indicative of guilt, since I've noticed that some of the people who've been attacked and been attacked have the same Pokémon I had, but it's something to bear in mind nonetheless.

Something just piqued my interest when I looked back over the writeup.

Basically, we see Red's Espeon defeat Giovanni's Kangaskhan by using Focus Blast, an immensely powerful Fighting-type move; the problem is that Espeon is completely incapable of learning this move.

Espeon already has a fairly decent attacking movepool that includes Psychic, Signal Beam, Shadow Ball, Grass Knot and Hidden Power; while these allow it to defeat Ghost and Bug types easily enough, it doesn't really have an effective means of covering it's crippling weakness to Dark types and their darn Crunch/Pursuit attacks, a problem that would be alleviated if it had access to Focus Blast.

The reason that this piques my interest is because I noticed that the entranced Charizard managed to shrug off an electric attack during the night phase, something that is entirely outside the realm of it's abilities since such an attack should have knocked the 'zard out; what if the Espeon was similarly entranced and thus was capable of using attacks that it could not usually learn?

I think it's possible we found a mafioso, to be honest; Saregona's weird behaviour, his overly powerful Espeon and the liklihood of him owning the Charizard that attacked last night are all pretty incriminating. It's either that or it's a massive indiscrepancy from Chaotix, but I feel that it's something to consider for the next phase anyway.
