Sorry Beefy, org was screwy when I was sending the results, yours must not have gone correctly. I'll send it again now.

Okay, I am going to take a huge leap and risk a whole lot of everything on a hunch. Because I have gigantic diamond ones.
I am being blackmailed by folks who suggest that they are from Internal Affairs. They have sent me "evidence" that they claim they will use against me if I do not uncover corrupt cops among the ranks here.
However, the evidence doesn't seem familiar to me, and that's why I'm acting on my hunch.
I wish to submit this evidence. I believe it comes not from Internal Affairs, but from the criminals in this game. If we examine this evidence for fingerprints, or evidence of forgery, or other types of analysis, I would be willing to bet my box of 12 donuts that I have for breakfast every day that we find a substantial lead on what we're supposed to be doing. I bet it leads directly to people we're trying to catch anyway.
Further, I've made no progress on uncovering corrupt cops and I don't believe I will be able to succeed in this.... "mission"... in time to satisfy these thugs anyway. So, at this point, I've nothing to lose but my career.
I am willing to risk it all. This is phoney baloney scummery, and Pizza says examine the stuff they're trying to blackmail me with for clues and/or leads. It can't hurt.
Who should I take this to?

I've been told you're the man to examine the evidence. I trusted you with my life, I'll trust you with my supposed dirty laundry.
Find the criminal scum. I swear they are behind this, or my name ain't Rocco.
Blackmail?! Corruption?! Here?! But we're the police! This just doesn't make any sense. I thought we were the good guys; I thought we enforced the law. Now my world's turned inside out... How do we know who to trust? Can we trust each other, or our superiors, or neither?? I don't know what to do.

Aside from the overacting  I would suggest if we can conclude that I'm being blackmailed by the Robbers, there are no corrupt cops, and that this whole thing was a wild goose chase to get me to avoid my policeman duties and to undermine the efforts of our entire team when we begin accusing one another.
I blame Sasaki Kojiro for all this. Or GeneralHanky. he would be that devious.

They haven't been playing games lately. I bet they're both behind all of this!
(Pizza -- take it to Skooma, obviously, unless it's not that sort of evidence. I'll look at it in that case.
@ All: I'm going to be ten times busier than I thought this weekend (now to Monday) so won't be able to cover for your orders if you don't send them. Please do. Suggestions:
Skooma -- look at Double A's car, check if there's any paint from the criminal's car left behind or anything
Chimpyang -- he's your catch; interrogate the mugger (unless the rules say only detectives and up can do it, I haven't checked. If so, it's Flax's turn.)
B_ray -- go look for witnesses to yesterday's Gotham Heights mugging, see if they saw anything useful
Everyone else is on his own, but please tell me afterward what you did and what the results were.)

Tunney hands in his report:
As you are sitting in your car you spot Frankie Squilacci. Following him you see him walk into a bar. You follow him in and sit at a corner, nursing a beer for an hour. He leaves for a few minutes, and just as you get up to follow him he comes back. After a few hours he leaves and goes home. It seems you wasted your night.
Askthepizzaguy

Well, unless I'm being blackmailed by a random carjacker.... I'd say there may be other criminals out there with an anti-Rocco agenda.
I'd like to hear what Dashwood has to say about his chat with our detainee. He's still here; that's probably good.

Yo.... we should begin to organize our efforts for the next phase immediately.
We caught Winston Hughes, now what do we do?
Further, we should assign patrol routes.
Stale coffee is nasty, though. Mix it with cigarettes and it's the smell of the teacher's lounge at my unlamented high school. *cringe*
Patrol routes will be assigned today for maximum coverage; any patrol officer who has a specific clever idea is encouraged to contact me.
Sergeant, please spend some time having a chat with Winston Hughes. Maybe we can make it stick this time.
Someone will need to question witnesses at the site of the Winston Hughes mugging. Volunteers?

I had a plan for this game which would have seen a few boring phases to get people used to the mechanics, then around phase three or four things would have ramped up. This needed new players joining which didn't happen unfortunately so it's kinda meandered with nothing happening really. I have altered things to work with the fewer players I have. I am busy this weekend and was hoping to end this phase now and have a longer phase next. The robbers have a few changes to get used to, and the cops don't really have a plan so I'll extend the phase over the weekend to try to get a bit of discussion going. The game will liven up, I shouldn't have let it go so long without change. :embarassed:
I'm confused. What exactly do we need to be doing right now? I've already sent in my actions.
johnhughthom
05-17-2011, 12:13
I'm confused. What exactly do we need to be doing right now? I've already sent in my actions.
I have less than half the cop orders, and missing some robber orders too. The game really needs as many orders as possible to work.
Askthepizzaguy
05-17-2011, 12:16
The cops really need someone who can step up and organize their efforts, like others have done in certain mafia games I won't mention explicitly.
I have said it before, I can't do it this time because I have so much else on my plate. I just dropped from a game at TWC.
Anyone, really, who wants to do organizing en masse for the cops should do so. It might help to look at the list of active cops and the map, and just assign random patrols, then send a PM to everyone involved, separately. That would be enough to at least give the robbers a challenge of some kind. And specific cops with special powers can decide what to do on their own.
It's basic stuff, but it's more work than I can devote presently. Anyone?
Not good at the planning side. I still haven't been told that area I should patrol. :P
Askthepizzaguy
05-17-2011, 12:20
Not good at the planning side. I still haven't been told that area I should patrol. :P
When all else fails, send in a default order, to patrol a random area. It could take 5 minutes to go to random.org, enter the list of neighborhoods, get one and then send JHT the order.
Everyone should be doing that every round until they get instructions from the leader.
johnhughthom
05-17-2011, 16:18
Should we select a new Sergeant and Lieutenant? When Renata and Stildawn were sending in group orders I could apply those when people failed to send their own, I haven't seen Stildawn for a while and Renata seems to have lost interest.
johnhughthom
05-17-2011, 21:15
I kinda have. Sorry. :(
No problem, it's totally my fault. I let the game drift when I should have taken action to liven it up, no hard feelings.
johnhughthom
05-17-2011, 22:35
Okay, I don't think Renata is alone on the cop side, and I seem to have lost a robber too. This game was only ever going to work with high participation and it's hard to get the interest back once it's gone. I pretty much assumed that a few mechanics would have been used more than they were, the detective informant ability for one. Informants would have given much more useful information the more money they got and they longer they were employed, with some randomisation. There was a $1000 a phase budget but only $100 here and there was used, I never really understood that. Skooma's role should have been more useful, one of the game mechanics was two dice were rolled for each player to determine their "luck" that night, Skooma was incredibly unlucky, I considered rerolling once or twice... I also expected the robbers to work together more than they did, most of the jobs they planned were solo. I'll make a lot less assumptions for any future games.
Anyway, the basic plan for the game was after a few phases a new player would have joined as the missing mafia don from the newspaper reports, giving the robbers a massive cash boost and a new objective, take over or eliminate the cops. I actually did get Winston Hughes to take this role after he was arrested, but it was clearly too late. The other robbers were Twilightblade and Diamondeye.
Thanks to everyone for taking part, sorry it didn't work out. I have three games of this type planned, this was probably the most complex, so not really the best to try first. I'll be opening sign ups for Crusader Kings soon, check the Gah thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?129450-Large-mafia-game-Crusader-Kings-Mafia) if you are interested.
Oh, well, it was just fun while it lasted. :) Sorry it didn't go better. It would have been good if each team had some way to privately communicate without having to use PMs, so that everyone could be on the same page. I'm not sure exactly what Quick Topics are, but I get the impression they are designed just for this purpose. Was there one that I didn't know about?
Askthepizzaguy
05-18-2011, 03:27
