i was just considering something lately wouldn´t it make more sence for the steppes to be 1 single province with alot of forts scatered all over
if one could atribute x amount of mnai for every fort hold in the steps and make the province capital unconquerable it would probably represent the steppes way of life better
also nice greek cities like olbia or tanais would/could still be kept just without a large province attached to it
if for instance it was possible for a faction to start without a capital or any city just steppes forts the upkeep could/should be modable into just 1/4 of a regular faction upkeep and ofc governing expenditure removed from the finances
also the forts would also have to be moded so they look like a steppe camp without walls
just something i considered to allow for more provinces where they matter (yeap you´re right in the seulekids heartland)

I don't know if the rest can be achieved, given the system limitation, but this one I'd really like to see it...
Maybe coupled borders and rivers could "force" the AI to raid the hinterland; also good relationships might keep a longterm trade with the greek cities...
For example the Sarmatae moving towards the Getae, or the Romani to Narbo instead of Massalia...

The steppe factions would lose access to their buildings and recruitment would have to be done through mercenaries which imposes limitations on unit textures , so it is not something we would want to do.
We have reworked the coastal provinces so that they don't have huge areas of steppe attached to them though.

I have speculated ignorantly about a similar approach with island provinces in a sea of steppe, but I guess there's only so far you can torture the engine. Once again its clear the solutions have been thought through whuich is so satisfying to see.

Rapt with this tidbit, I used to worry about the massive hinterlands behind Olbia and Tanais. That map preview will be a corker when it comes: I guess it'll be a later one because its so juicy.
Well Tanais isn't even a settlement any more, so need to worry about it's hinterland. :clown:

speaking of permanent forts as settlements, are the fortsassettlement replacements able to me retextured? or is Babylon (or was it Seleukaia) going to be a medieval fort due to this that or the other thing?

thanks for the reply bobbin and it´s nice to know that if you take a city bordering the steppes you won´t have a large region to have to put 5 diferent towers around (so that each tower covers 2 others in a chance of a rebel stack taking one) and keep it garrisoned with excessive units so you can go around horse chasing with your infantry against steppes horse archers eleutheroi or otherwise

I'm not sure what your talking about there.

bobbin someone said that babylon would become a permanent stone fort since seleukeia would be the only province capital and historically what the team divided into 2 regions was only 1 satrapy so if we can better represent babylon as a permanent stone fort (maybe modable to allow for half a stack to be stationed there without upkeep to represent its historical importance if possible)
so those of us who where here in the last 2 years have lived under the impression that babylon would be a single permanent stone fort and no longer a city and a diferent province from the seleukeia one
thats my best guess :P
Thats not a decision I'm aware of, right now the cities are as they are in EB.

i was discussing the textures of Permanent Stone Forts on campaign map so they aren't medieval forts/castles/ but look like settlements. I've seen the previews showing that Proper cities can be altered, but wasn't sure if that extended to Forts as well due to whatever CA has going on in the background.
My example was Seleukaia because i was under the impression it was going to be a PSF, but it extends to any settlement as fort.
Yes, we can and will change the strat map models of PSF's, Seleukeia certainly won't be a PSF though.

I would like to see Ctesiphon as PSF just opposite to Seleukeia for roleplaying purposes.
She (seleukeia) had 600.000 souls it would be madness to omit it.
