I got a taste of power being a Content Manager, and I liked it. Now, Admiral GeneralHankerchief and I are going to be launching a pirate ship filled with the yarringest pirates of all time toward the Total War Center. We shall take their doubloons, harpoons, and pantaloons. We shall hoist out flag proudly over their barely-floating hull. We will dock in their harbor and drink all their ale!
But it wouldn't be a very good secret operation if I told you all about it, so I'm afraid me lips are sealed. Yarrr.

Askthepizzaguy
06-22-2011, 05:38
Okay.
I have a game design thrown together, and it should be interesting. I have no idea how this is going to go, but, I do believe all sides are balanced. It's not a fancy or complicated game, but, it's not just a standard town versus mafia setup.
Town (versus) Cult (versus) Cult.
If the Cult Leaders are destroyed, cultists revert to their original alignment.
Regular townies can win with either cult.
Town will have incorruptible members who cannot be converted, their goal is town victory only.
Cult leaders cannot be corrupted, their alignment will always remain the same.
Cultists can be re-converted to a different alignment.
It will not be known to the converter whether or not conversion was successful.
Failed conversion does not reveal who tried to convert you.
Every round, someone will be lynched.
No Lynch is not an option.
Abstain votes are legal as long as there is at least one person voting to lynch.
Quoting/copying/pasting your role PM is not allowed.
Revealing who you are and what your goals are, publicly, or privately, is legal. It may not be wise, but it's legal.
Cult leaders will be granted cover roles. Mass reveals will not solve the game.
Alignment will NOT be revealed upon death.
Dead players cannot vote or perform any actions.
Dead players may not reveal their alignment or previous actions.
There may be other roles in the game besides basic townies and cult leaders.
Voting procedure:
Vote: Abstain
is legal when someone else has voted to lynch a player.
Vote: Player
is considered a legal vote.
Unvote.
is considered a legal way to change your vote to an abstain. This will not be counted if everyone else has abstained.
Unvote, vote: Player
is considered a legal way to switch votes.
Endgame:
When all players who can be converted have been converted at least once, the remaining Cult Leaders can choose to murder instead of converting someone.
They can convert instead of murdering as well.
This will continue until all Cult Leaders have been destroyed, or only one Cult remains, with enough votes to win outright.
Okay, that's the setup. Comments? If you guys think this one will be lame, I'll scrap the idea and we'll do a basic vanilla GH-style game.

Just a preliminary note to say I'll be inactive for the larger part of the weekend (working off GMT time), I can make anything on Friday morning and then Sunday night, but nothing inbetween.
That is all.
Heh. Completely loony-tunes.
It will not be known to the converter whether or not conversion was successful.
Failed conversion does not reveal who tried to convert you.
But a successful conversion does reveal that? Doesn't make sense with the other rules, but that's what's implied.
TheLastDays
06-22-2011, 15:10
Well someone's gotta know when a conversion is succesful and the converted must know who his boss is, right?...
although that's weird... because if getting converted again he'll know who his boss was ^^ and it'll be pretty easy for him to kill him off
That's what I mean. Both by its not making sense with the other rules, and by the setup being loony-tunes.
Askthepizzaguy
06-22-2011, 20:47
But a successful conversion does reveal that? Doesn't make sense with the other rules, but that's what's implied.
No, conversion or failed conversion both do not reveal who the boss is.
The boss can send instructions along with the conversion message, anonymously, through me. After that, they'll have to contact the convert themselves for further instructions, which as the rules imply, is risky.
That actually does allow a successful recruit to identify themselves as having been recruited, if you think about it.
TheLastDays
06-22-2011, 21:57
So success or failure of conversion only depends on whether the one to be converted is a convertible towny or not?
Also, just to be clear, the cult bosses will never know if any of their recruitables has been reconverted to the other cult?
Will they get the anonymous conversion message if conversion was not succesful?
And how will the cult bosses know when every recruitable person has been recruited at least once?
Askthepizzaguy
06-23-2011, 03:08
That actually does allow a successful recruit to identify themselves as having been recruited, if you think about it.
Yes, and it also allows an unsuccessful recruit to identify themselves as having been recruited.
So success or failure of conversion only depends on whether the one to be converted is a convertible towny or not?
Success is automatic if the target is convertible.
Also, just to be clear, the cult bosses will never know if any of their recruitables has been reconverted to the other cult?
True dat.
Will they get the anonymous conversion message if conversion was not succesful?
Yes.
In other words, Cult Leaders may try to recruit people, but they will never know for sure if they've been converted and are trustworthy.
And how will the cult bosses know when every recruitable person has been recruited at least once?
Because I will know, and I'll tell them.
Oh, ok -- the previous comment implied only successful recruits would get the message; now I see.

I really regret not having a game idea already designed for that one. It seems I have actually gone through my massive list of game ideas from like 2 years ago and gotten them all done or scrapped the bad ones at last.
I bet if I had something awesome planned, advertised, and invited people, I could push 50 participants over there.
Looks good, sort of like a mini-CoV III.
(Because the first thing that pops into my head is always how I can selfishly relate things to my own games :clown:)

In the beginning....
There was a continent surrounded by a nameless sea. The people of this land existed for countless generations, and they were nothing more than a bunch of disorganized tribes constantly warring with one another over territory. The cheese-lovers would be constantly squabbling with the wheat farmers, and the tomato growers would complain that their land would be trampled on by the pig farmers. After several long and bloody wars, the land had been torn apart. None of the tribes could make enough food to feed themselves, so they were forced to rely on trade... and they soon found that the separate foods they all enjoyed actually tasted quite good when mixed together and baked in an oven.
And so, a new religion formed... and it spread throughout the separate tribes.... and they soon formed the Order of the Pizza-Eaters. With their new way of thinking, and their cooperative, egalitarian philosophy, pizza reigned supreme over the land.
Get it? :eyebrows:
But something strange is happening in the Crusty Plains. Some of the common folk are insisting that Pizza is an impure food, and that there is a much better food that should be eaten. The Order of the Pizza Eaters has dispatched someone to investigate the heretics and put a stop to them.... but it might already be too late. A rival religion, whose teachings defy the Order, can only mean one thing: a holy war is about to begin.
Who would prevail?
We shall soon find out.

Okay, lets try to figure out what the team distribution will be.
Obviously there are cult leaders and (per the game rules) at least 2 cults. The rules also mention other roles that aren't townie or cult, so maybe a serial killer or the like. That leaves 14 other people to account for. 14 v 2 v 1 seem kind of long odds for the cult and the serial killer. Unless the cults start with organic members other than the leader which would change the composition to who knows what. For example, are both cults equal or do they get specific talents?
Since cultists revert back to original cult after the (new) cult leader dies, I see a lot of misinformation getting thrown around when a cult leader gets lynched since his alignment won't be revealed but the remaining cult will regain members. I would say the most dangerous time in the game for townies will be if and when a cult leader is knocked off because of the sudden mass shift of members into one cult.
I think you're assuming too much; cults almost by definition begin with just the leader.

DAY ONE
The Pizza-eaters gathered together, and began accusing one another of being heretics. The local magistrate was overseeing these events, but the crowd had obviously gone mad, and some began accusing the local magistrate himself.... the one known as Askthepizzaguy.
The charismatic leader of this group was a General of some sort (nothing to sneeze at!) and as such, he held powerful sway over the others. Soon, they began to follow his lead... and a small gathering of peasants surrounded the magistrate. One of the peasants stepped forward.
issaikhaan: "It's you! You're the heretic among us, pizza man! I know this because you have a dark and scummy past, and you like to melt the minds of mortal men with maddening plot twists! You, magistrate, are the corrupter of the people!"
Askthepizzaguy: "Is that so?"
issaikhaan: "It is so!"
Askthepizzaguy: "Are you sure?"
issaikhaan: "Quite sure!"
Askthepizzaguy: "Are you absolutely positive?"
issaikhaan: "Never been more sure of anything in my life!"
Askthepizzaguy: "WELL YOU'RE WRONG!!!"
And so, the magistrate pulled out a revolver, and fired it at issaikhaan.
*BANG*
Askthepizzaguy: "THIS IS FOR GREATERKHAAN!!!"
And the magistrate fired again.
*BANG*
Askthepizzaguy: "THIS IS FOR MAKAIKHAAN!!!"
And the magistrate fired again.
*BANG*
Askthepizzaguy: "THIS IS FOR SEIREIKHAAN!!!"
And the magistrate fired again.
*BANG*
Askthepizzaguy: "THIS IS FOR SHINSEIKHAAN!!!"
And the magistrate fired again.
*BANG*
Askthepizzaguy: "THIS IS FOR YASEIKHAAN!!!"
And the magistrate fired again.
*BANG*
Askthepizzaguy: "THIS IS FOR ISSAIKHAAN!!!"
And the magistrate fired again, but nothing happened. Everyone stood there, wondering what was wrong.
Askthepizzaguy: "Hold on, hold on.... stupid revolver. I have to reload...."
Everyone, including 'khaan, waited patiently for Askthepizzaguy to fumble through his pockets for a box of bullets, and clumsily load each one into the gun.
Askthepizzaguy: "THIS IS FOR ISSAIKHAAN!!!"
*BANG*
Askthepizzaguy: "AND THIS IS FOR ME!!!"
*BANG*
Everyone waited for 'khaan to fall over dead, but he just stood there. In fact, he seemed in good spirits.
issaikhaan: "Well, your aim could use some improvement, it seems."
Askthepizzaguy: "Fine.... have it your way. Guards! Take him away! He's a blasphemer, spreading vile lies about the wondrous Pizza!"
Without further ado, several heavily armed guards took issaikhaan away to be tried for heresy. Bad things happened to 'khaan.
Terrible things!
And then he died and stuff.

How many credits will we get at the end of each night phase and how much does it cost to use my item?
I'm guessing the two factions are pizza delivery chains. The serial killer role is probably either an armed robber named Tyrone or an unchained pit bull named Stonewall in a trailer park. (both true stories, I worked "in the business" for many years.)
Askthepizzaguy
06-27-2011, 12:18
I have been attacked by unchained pit bulls just hanging around in people's yards unattended after their owners ordered pizza.
I should have the legal right to drive my car over their dog and straight through their living room whenever that happens. I would, with pleasure. The stupidity of the average human being is astounding to me, and stupidity should have consequences.

Hows about wheeled toys (and other hazards) on dark porch steps and no one turns on the freaking porch lights.
Or snow drifts that are so high they cannot open the glass outer door, so they say they need to cancel unless you can help them clear the sidewalk (with no tip afterwards)
Or husbands/kids/friends who get the money from mom/dad, wait for payer to walk off, and then they pocket the tip right in front of you. One dad left me a check with a tip to order for the kid what they always order, and the little tart babysitter asked for the difference back in cash. I told her only if she showed me her breasts.
My personal favorite is Have-The-Baby-Pay-Because-its-cute-and-i-wont-feel-guilty-about-not-tipping customers.
But I really loved that job for a while, until we got a new owner. Lots of smokeouts in the walk-in cooler, late night parties with the other chains disgruntled employees and having sex with girls who smell like pizza. My only regret is that I never got to shoot anyone.

NIGHT ONE
The peasants gathered together in the morning, to find Askthepizzaguy weeping uncontrollably. One of them approached him and asked the magistrate guy what was wrong, to which the magistrate replied:
Askthepizzaguy: "You made me kill him! You people and your voting.... I didn't want to kill this man, for he was the prettiest one among you. And now look at him.... look at his beautiful face...."
Askthepizzaguy scooped up an unrecognizable mess of dirt, blood, and fleshy bits from the ground.
Askthepizzaguy: "Even now, in this state, he's still the prettiest one here, besides me of course. Now, find me a heretic, or you'll soon find yourselves splattered on the ground next to khaan."
Askthepizzaguy pulled out yet another revolver and waved it around at the peasants to encourage their participation.
Askthepizzaguy: "Also, nothing happens if you try to lynch me."
Pizza waved the gun at GH.
Askthepizzaguy: "I unclog my nose in your general direction. Let the accusations commence!"

Which case are you referring to? Secura's or yours?
Personally I don't think there's a better case than GH's. Even if the setup makes it possible for a bad guy to make such a claim, I'm not seeing why he would choose to do it so early. My guess is that he really has information about Captain Blackadder.
And like Renata said, CB should have been more aggressive in his reply, if he really was Town, because in his eyes the accuser should be misguided. Yet he's not voting GH, not even voting anyone. Why is that so? I think he knows that he's been caught, and there's not much defense to be made.
TheLastDays
06-29-2011, 21:55
Do the rules forbid quoting things from anywhere private? (If so, can we paraphrase things?) That would explain GHs behaviour if he's seen something there... if it's not that, his case might be good but from what's in his post it's nothing
And I was referring to my "case" which can't really be called a case, I was just pointing out that GH's case as it stands is not much more... I'd still like to see some explanation for it... and even though it doesn't really do anything I think I'm going to pressure... unvote, vote: GeneralHankerchief
GH's case holds a lot more than a random accusation because he's putting himself in the spotlight and will become a target for the mafia if he's telling the truth. Such a *strong* case is rarely available on Day 2, why do you hesitate? It looks like you're pushing to get more information from GH, when there's no real need for it. If GH is making a play, we have time to catch him later, particularly if he's still alive when he shouldn't be.
TheLastDays

My question is, what reason does he have to withhold the information that leads to his vote if he's an honest townie?
I'm not hesitating, my vote isn't needed on the CB-wagon... I'm trying to pick up some other hints and put pressure at other people...
Also how does he make himself a target in a game where the Mafia will not be able to kill him for a while?

We cannot be sure how long it will be before the mafia can kill, but at this point GH may very well be their first victim if he's truthful, thus yes he'll be a target, albeit perhaps not immediately (or perhaps yes, what do we know of the mafia abilities anyway?)

This post implies three things; that you skim-read Ibn's post (how does one skim-read a sentence?), that you believed he was making a good point and that you joined him in voting for GH. It does not imply that your vote was randomised; au contraire, in fact.
ATPG doesn't like investigators so I doubt their is one in the game.
It's true that Pizza isn't too fond of investigators (and roleblockers, killers...) metagaming him, but that doesn't mean that he wouldn't use them in his own games (wasn't there an investigative role in Revengening 2?); my guess is that they'd be in a reduced capacity though, probably scanning for something like susceptibility to recruitment rather than outright alignment.
Which means that he is a cult leader that attempted to convert me and failed. This makes me think I might have a hidden ability on that front.
Unfortunately, that isn't possible, because the rules state the following:
It will not be known to the converter whether or not conversion was successful.
Only GH knows what his reasoning was for your lynch.

That's the second time you're pushing for GH to reveal his information. While I have difficulties seeing a scummy motivation for him, to make this move on Day 2, I don't for you. Askthepizzaguy: "Okay! Who is guilty of heresy this time?"
They looked toward their leader, General H. It seemed that Generals A through G were complete failures. Perhaps they were unprepared for leadership. But General H knew all about preparation. That's why his nickname was..... Hanky?
General Hanky: "General says do the Bartman!"
And it was so. They all did the Bartman.
General Hanky: "General says he's innocent."
And it was so. They all nodded in agreement.
General Hanky: "General says he's not a heretic!"
And it was so. They all nodded in agreement.
General Hanky: "General says that Mister Stuka will move his vote, and let me live!"
And it was so. Mister Stuka did exactly as he was told.
Askthepizzaguy: "You're freakish, I just want you to know that. People say I can make people do what I want, but you.... Hanky, are something else. You are the man who stares at goats."
General Hanky stared at a goat, and made it explode. Everyone applauded.
Then General Hanky stared at Mister Stuka, and he was blown into smithereens.
Askthepizzaguy: "Okay everyone! The sun went down a long time ago, and that means it's almost time to wake up and do this again. Get yourself about five minutes of sleep, and then I'll be in to wake you up with a garden hose."

Your vote feels a little lazy and seems to lack any real conviction this time around; you accuse GH of being disruptive to the town's cause, but he only seems so because you're allowing his behaviour to distract you.
Lynching GH isn't going to result in him revealing his reasons for the Blackadder lynch, and in a game with no reveals we only have Blackadder's word that he was innocent, which begs the question of what you hope to achieve by lynching GH? Heck, I'd also like to know what it is that GH would have to gain by getting Blackadder lynched when he could've employed that tactic against someone like Renata or Romanic?

Plus you're now voting classical_hero without giving a reason. Why?
It's not so much about being completely satisfied with an answer than about getting a bunch of answers. Sometimes unvoting someone can be as effective as voting for them, I got my answer after I unvoted him. You're right, he should have an answer. That he doesn't have an answer is also an answer.
Plus, I wanted to support Secura's argument by putting more pressure on classical_hero and since I was at work I wasn't sure when I'd be able to post again. Unfortunately he hasn't answered, although pressured.
Now I'd like to know why you seem so intent to critique my votes? IMO they make sense and I'm trying to do something at least.
Believer, you had PM conversation with TheLastDays?
No, he did not. That's another GH-like argument he's pulling off there.
Now I'd like to know why you seem so intent to critique my votes? IMO they make sense and I'm trying to do something at least.
I've said why I critique your vote:
1) Your vote on Ibn is fine, but the unvote is strange, given his answer.
2) Your vote on CH was unexplained.
But if you were asking why I critique your votes then I'll reply that I am looking for scumbags. What kind of question is that anyway? :smug2:
As for why Believer moved his vote, I asked him to, to pressure you, and also see how he would react. I don't have an explanation. We lynch people in cults, therefore, when I decide to lynch someone, I will say I think they are in a cult. There is nothing I have on Believer that I don't have on every other person in this game, as I can't scan, haven't had PMs with people and haven't been recruited (yet). Based on the timeframe and number of night, each cult should have had 3-4 people now if they started with just one, assume 1 or two have been lynched, that means town is greatly outnumbered right now.
so yeah, Believer is in a cult.

I haven't lied about anything. Refer to this by Romanic:
As for why Believer moved his vote, I asked him to, to pressure you, and also see how he would react. I can't say that I liked his reaction, as he started on the defensive, stating that I might be a cultist trying to trick him, but he eventually did it. I never stated that I was in contact with TLD.
We lynch people in cults.
so yeah, Believer is in a cult.
Seeing the rules of the game, cultists should be the best townies around. If you suspect someone is a cultist you can be pretty clear that person is your best friend, since he will most likely be gunning for his own cult leader.
Why?
Once his leader is dead he will revert back to his original town alignment. Looking at this setup it's easy to see that a town victory is easier than a cult victory. So no, I don't think we should lynch people because they are cultists. Cult leaders, definately.
With all this said and your logic flawed; I am not a cultist and neither am I a cult leader.

DAY FOUR
The assembled peasants grumbled at their shoddy treatment, and began accusing one another of being a heretic. The discussion was light. People seemed to be pointing fingers without much reason. But soon, a large group pointed their fingers at one man. And that man was a Believer.
A Believer in what? Voodoo? Faeries? Love at first sight? Or perhaps he was a Believer in some foul, dastardly, un-Pizzalike religion!
Askthepizzaguy: "Is this him? Is this the guy?"
Several folks looked at GeneralHankerchief, who nodded.
General Hanky: "General says Believer is guilty."
Believer: "I'm not a heretic, I'm not a heretic! I'm a true Believer!"
Askthepizzaguy: "It doesn't matter, Believer man! It doesn't matter! For you have crossed the line, and defied the word of Generalissimo Francisco Frankerchief!"
Major Robert Dump: "Actually, now they're playing Major Robert Dump says."
Askthepizzaguy: "Are they? Are they? Or are you just a puppet of the General, an underling, sent in his stead? Will you die in the line of duty, just like the Captain before you? And where did you all get these military ranks? You're just a bunch of silly wheat farmers! I'm out of it for a little while and everybody gets delusions of grandeur!"
Major Robert Dump: "................Dump says he's guilty! DUMP! DUMP! DUMP!!"
And so, the crowd grabbed Believer, and dumped him unceremoniously in the wheat thresher.

I don't believe you. Clown britches are a one-way ticket to adult-oriented good times.

The real reason I voted Believer was because he beat me at chess :stare:

Tis a line from one of the greatest songs of all time, by the legendary GWAR, so yes good times abound but one can still be a virgin. It also reminds me of a job horror story, but I shall put that in the proper thread

I expect everyone to vote during the day, that way we can lynch bad guys.

You're just digging yourself a deeper hole. People know I'm innocent.

I'm not digging anything and I never said you weren't innocent, and my entire case on you was based on a post you made in jest, which is about as solid as GeneralHankerchiefs case for people to lynch Blackadder "because he said so." As a townie who has been left out of all sort of collusion between you and your scheming "townie" homeboys, I don't know if you are innocent or guilty, but I do know this: I am a townie, and better you than me, and I'd be willing to bet that some of your homeboys are cultists.

My homeboys consist of Romanic, which was the reason I voted TLD. I never talked to him earlier in this game. And Renata, which I haven't seen online for several days and therefore hasn't talked to. That's all, if you don't want to count ATPG in.
Question these two if you want to question my "homeboys", because these are all I have.
