Tonight the Republic falls once more. This noble experiment with the return to the republic was a failure. Time has shown that the republic cannot live when their are powerful men who wish for its destruction. Today the republic dies the final nail in its destruction will be the death not of a paragon of Roman Virtue but by a new man who 100 years earlier would have being counted amongst Romes enemies his name is Vindex (Classical Hero).

Before he is to be killed Vindex asks for the chance to give one final speech where he intends to speak of the Rome that will come. Vindex called together the Gauls, who had suffered much by the numerous forced levies of money and had suffered at Nero's hands. And ascending a tribunal he delivered a long and detailed speech against Vespasian, saying that they ought to revolt from the man who would be emperor and join the speaker in an attack upon him, "because," as he said, "he has despoiled the while Roman world, because he has destroyed all the flower of the senate, because he debauched , and does not preserve even the semblance of sovereignty. Many murders, robberies and outrages, it is true, have often been committed by others; but as for the other deeds committed by Vespasian, how could one find words fittingly to describe them? I have seen him, my friends and allies -believe me- I have seen that man [...] in the circle of the senate, that is, in the orchestra, sometimes holding the sword and dressed in the clothes of a general, and again wearing in general-soled shoes and . I have often heard him , play the fool, and act in battle. I have seen him in chains, hustled about as a miscreant, heavy with child, aye, in the travail of childbirth - in short, imitating all the situations of mythology by what he said and what was said to him, by what he submitted to and by what he did. Will anyone, then, style such a person Caesar and emperor and Augustus? Never! Let no one abuse those sacred titles. They were held by Augustus and by Claudius, whereas this fellow might most properly be termed Thyestes, Oedipus, Alcmeon, or Orestes; for these are the characters that he represents on the stage and it is these titles that he has assumed in place of the others. Therefore rise now at length against him; succour yourselves and succour the Romans; liberate the entire world from his future rule!"

However this speech is too little too late now the Vespasian factions far outnumbers the senate. He is shouted down and is not allowed to finish before he is taken out and killed. With the death of the consuls of the day one figure stands up and proposes that Vespasian the only man of worth left in Rome be declared dictator for life and Emperor of Rome to deal with the forthcoming threats. As the rest of the senate stands in worshipping the new Emperor two men have tears in their eyes for they know they have lost. One man is the man that lead the new republic Rufus the other is a man who in other circumstances would have being one of Vespasians greatest friends Nerva. As Vespasian smiles in the greatness of his victory the it is final whilst he has lost one of his sons in this fight he still has he greatest ally still alive and standing with him plus he has other children. Today is the dawn of a new age, the age of the Flavian Dynasty has begun

Please tell me how. I need to get better...

Both the new guys did well. I was very surprised that you two trusted me on that final day. Especially when I read Monty's comments about how he's a last minute voter, I was so nervous...

I did tell you guys that one day I would be scum, and then you'll be right if you put a case on me. But no-one ever did. :D

Feels good to finally get a scum role. Thanks Khaan for being a gret help, and Captain Blackadder for hosting, I quite enjoyed this.

I actually said this to Montmorency a day or two ago:

I've said that I don't suspect Visorslash, that's not entirely true - I've had a feeling about him from the start, and if there's 3 mafiosi remaining my money is on him, MRD and Khaan.

But then two consecutive posts made me change my mind. Classical voted for autolycus completely out of the blue, and you asked "Classical, why Autolycus" which seemed very townie to me for some reason. From this I figured classical_hero must be mafia, and since MRD was obviously scum (I maintain it was his own fault he got lynched :laugh4:) and I had strong suspicions of Khaan, I figured you must be a townie. Good logic, eh?

Interesting. Is there a serious reason why every dead player wanted Khaan dead, and why you had suspiscions of him?

As to Khaan, personally I felt he was playing things very safe - only really posting to post his votes (except for that conversation with ATPG, but you guys tell me that's normal). Funnily enough, the dead players were one of the main reasons I didn't vote Khaan - I figured that if they all wanted him dead so badly but couldn't find any evidence to support this, maybe I was mistaken about his guilt.

Ishmael
08-07-2011, 00:42

I singlehandedly doomed the town with my cases against dump and classical (which I propounded to Ishmael and visor in PMs)!

Ah, what a fool I was, thinking that if one of the two were Mafia I could handle them the next day. But the whole time, I wondered if my continued survival were not due to my usefulness to the Mafia. Well...dem's the breaks I guess.

You guys should have kynched me Day 3. :shame:

Monty, if I can call you Monty, your efforts to lead the town to glory were not in vain. It is the effort that counts, to me.

I made very little effort this whole game, even though my suspect Khaan was correct. If I was joking about Khaan I wouldn't have pressed so hard for him on the final round. So, because I didn't put out the effort, to really explain why I felt I was a Khaan murder choice, nobody listened.

I don't mind honest attempts to win the game even if you fail. Keep at it. You can only improve.

Hehe

Aside from you not being able to detect sarcasm even if it slapped you...

As for making votes without making cases: there were no cases to be made, other than the dead telling us to lynch Khan. If I have no case, it is no better to grasp at straws and try to pull something out of my rear, because it all ultimately ends up being random. That's how mafia is. Sometimes you just gotta lynch a guy. Obviously, for those who were making far-fetched cases in order to justify their votes, well, that didn't work out so hot.

Well played by Visor though, when we were accused of being in cahoots. That was simple bad luck on my part.

In fact, judging by this whole scenario the latter seems more likely. You're terrible judge of character. The whole point of mafia when you are mafia is to get the town to think you are one of them, so deception is the key to mafia, so I would not blame you for the loss, since getting the mafia can be tough.

Also, about your posts in the QT: I'm not offended at all, no worries. For what I care, the worse your opinion of me is, the better

You are the most wondrous sort of man whilst others in your position used it to make large amounts of money for themselves you have done no such thing. You have being completely honest in your dealings and have being fair in all of your actions thus far. With the death of Nero you became one of the most powerful men in Rome however you choose to give up this power like Cincinnatus and have returned to your humble home ready to defend the Republic that you love once more.

Objective. To defend the Republic against all threats.

Epicharis

Hail Epicharis. You are Epicharis last name unrecorded one of the bravest women that Rome has ever seen and a key conspirator behind the Piso Conspiracy. Whilst the other members of the plot were vainglorious and ineffective you were decisive. It was you that caused Nero to die and you restored the republic to the honour it once had. You are now a few years older but also more experienced in age and in mind.

Vindex

Vindex was powerful in body and of shrewd intelligence, was skilled in warfare and full of daring for any great enterprise; and he had a passionate love of freedom and a vast ambition"

You are a great friend to those you likes but if someone displeases you then they should look out, for the power of the Claudii will soon be upon them. You also has the slight feeling that everyone is bellow you in status you think that compared to yourself everyone is homo novus. You are part of the greatest of all of Romes Families the Claudii as one of the most ancient of all families you feels the pressure to live up to your forefathers. To go to the Claudii family tomb is to see the history of Rome there have being twenty-eight consulships, five dictatorships, seven censorships, six triumphs and two ovations before you came into this world and you needs to equal if not be better then those that came before you. Your teenage and early adulthood was spent studying rhetoric, but not for the Curia, but for the Basilica, where you were taught to argue logically, clearly and emotionally, the audience being sometimes more powerful than the judge. Since returning home the last time, you decided to enter politics and attempt to bring reason with you Brought up in a family that sneers at the patricians for their arrogance, you fail to see the same flaw in yourself. Your family own several lands and mainly deals in olives. As a novus homus you are not the most respected man in Rome however with your bravery defending the republic you have a great chance to become a much greater man.

Objective. To defend the Republic against all threats.

Decimus Claudius Ingenuus

Hail Decimus, Born in the regions south of Palermo, you were one of four boys of a well-off family. Your father (Vatinius) and mother (Domitilla), who cherished you, sent you away early in your life to learn in the finest school they could afford. You learnt much in your years at the academy, but unlike your peers, did not grow arrogant and self-centred. You were kind to those less fortunate than yourself, and taught what he learned to those seeking knowledge including your own slaves so that you could have someone worth talking to. You grew fond of books and the company of friends, and will have either at hand at a moments notice. Due to your gregarious ways, you soon found yourself well liked among the upper class, and when you travelled to Rome, even more so. Public speaking was something you excelled at, and you soon gained renown as a wise counsel. At the age of forty-five, you became a senator, and vowed to improve the lives of your countrymen.
