Myth Nightbringer I can continue with egypt, will play when able but my sister just got hospitalized ( brain tumor ) and i prioritize the TWC prior among the non vital things.
She is quite alright if you wonder, and a champ at that. Yesterday she was terrified as she thought she was having a stroke but now she's a pillar, me being very much more afraid^^

With luck its "just" the tumor having spread from her hands to the back of her skull or something unrealistic, Will take a look at the Sword and Cross but i do not think i will be joining.

Lets make sure all the normal players ares still here, since we are getting this rolling again. If not, you can take over one of them, otherwise, its still pretty early in the game so I could probably open up another faction.

Lategame is not realy feasible when we're talking hotseats. Between the two I'd chose venice for an autoresolve game in vanilla. Heavy infantry are the way to win AR fights.

Well, I am currently in the process of killing both of those factions (Turks and Venice), and have already taken some settlements from them, and mithridate has taken some from Turks, so I would be cautious on either of those unless you want to start off in a really tough spot.

I would suggest Moors maybe, or Sicily or Milan.

I'll take Milan, for Italy!

(Since crusading is illegal what do you do if an ai faction calls a crusade? Do I ignore it and take a hit?)

You have to autoresolve vs humans and that's what really matters.
