Askthepizzaguy presents: a game of cold-blooded murder
~~~
Mafia for 20+ players
The rules: There are 20 of them. You should probably read them all.
1. At dawn of the First Day, someone will be murdered cold and dead. This person becomes the game Moderator.
2. From then onward, each active living player will attempt to solve the crime.
3. At the end of the First Day, and each day thereafter, one person will be accused of the crime, and sentenced to death.
4. The accused will be determined by a vote. However, and this is very important- a majority is required to lynch anyone.
5. Whoever reaches the required vote total first is lynched. That means the first person to receive the votes of at least 50% of the remaining players will be executed immediately thereafter.
6. No vote switches are counted after that threshold is reached.
7. Unlike standard mafia, the Day will continue until the 50% threshold is reached, or until the game moderator has determined that there will be no voting majority and enough time has elapsed. There will always be a 24 hour warning before any such judgment of the moderator.
8. In the event the moderator determines there will be no voting majority, either the lead candidate will be executed, or something else entirely will happen at the moderator's sole discretion. That something else will be cruel and delightfully unfair. You have been warned.
9. And the Dawn of the Second Day, it will be clear that, regardless of the events of the First Day, there is at least one guilty party remaining alive. Furthermore, during the night, it is entirely likely that the killer or killers will strike again.
10. It is legal for the guilty party to choose not to murder.
11. It is legal for any player to abstain from voting.
12. It is legal for any player to vote for "No Lynch" at their own discretion.
13. Legal votes must be bolded, and include the word "Vote: " before the target's name, i.e: Vote: Askthepizzaguy
14. It is generally a good idea to actively participate in some fashion, such as discussing or voting. Otherwise cruel and unfair things may happen to you at the moderator's sole discretion.
15. That being said, there is no forced minimum activity requirement or publicly known threshold for booting inactive players. That person that seems inactive might be guilty and just laying low. You have been warned.
16. During the night, the thread will be locked, and there will be no discussion. Most people cannot solve crimes while they're sleeping, and it hasn't occurred to you to sleep in shifts. The guilty parties have grown quite comfortable with murder and can get in a full night's rest even after murdering someone.
17. The innocent team is also known as "Town" but will probably not be referred to as such, ever, during this game.
18. Guilty parties are also known as "Mafia" but will probably not be referred to as such.
19. Play continues until Town has eliminated all threats, or the Mafia controls a 50% stake of the vote, thus robbing anyone else of the ability to lynch them. Either condition ends the game immediately with a victory for one side.
20. It's not personal, it's just business. If you can't be nice, at least be professional. Remember that it is only a game, and it is a game of lies, backstabbing, and murder. Be sure to take it all in stride. Personal attacks will be warned off. Disruptive players will be booted. And also remember: HAVE FUN!
If I may correct you, my dear sir, 'thus' is an adverb in its own right, so, adding the '-ly' subject is completely needless and creates a nonexistent word.
I do declare that this proposed game of 'murder' might be interesting of course. Jolly good show, what?
No, you are mistaken.
"Thus" is a verb. "Thusly" is clearly an adverb.
Noun forms include "thussion", "thussitude", and "thusburger".
Don't get me started on the English language.
Historic = adjective.
Historical = adjective.
Therefore, which suffix makes it an adjective? -ic? -ical?
Buffoonery.
If it is in the dictionary, it's a word now. Why? Because it's in use, unlike thousands of other words in the dictionary that no one ever really uses, and the definition is publicly known.
Because language is evolving, it doesn't have many defined or permanent rules. But one of them is, if I can find it in a dictionary, and people use it as a word, it is now a word. That's it, folks.
"Ain't ain't a word."
Except now it is (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ain%27t). Suck on that, English teacher.
Ferret
03-30-2013, 12:51
I am in agreement with this argument.
The purpose of language is to convey ideas and feelings, if we are able to do that clearly and effectively then the words or grammar used are inconsequential. As long as people understand what you are trying to say, then it is correct.
Having said that if you dare to confuse 'your' and 'you're' I will never forgive you, because I am a hypocrite.
The thread title says "A Game of Cold-Blooded Murder [Sign-ups OPEN!]"
Yes, indeed, "Sign-ups OPEN!"
It even has an exclamation mark and the word open is written in capitals to stress that sign-ups are open.
This is misleading publicity which is punishable in 5.875 different countries. Among the punishments we find: death by hanging, death by electrocution and being forced to eat mayonnaise with fries (allthough I don't understand why the latter is seen as punishment, since surely, nothing goes above fries with mayonnaise and a good pint of Belgian beer).
Therefore, there are only two alternatives: either you let me in or you undergo all possible punishments for misleading publicity, starting with being cut in 378 pieces, like they do in the non existing country of Burgbawahaha.
You're late to this particular party, and not fashionably so.
Besides, you wouldn't want to be caught dead with this group, a most likely outcome should you join it.... and painfully so. You are about to enter a place where fairness and the rule of law have no meaning. An ignoble end for the chief executor of justice and administrative duties such as yourself. Are you prepared for the depths of torment and despair you're about to feel? This is less a game of mafia, and more of a sadistic laboratory, to test the patience, will, and reasoning ability of those who will almost certainly not survive the tests. Many will enter the rat's maze, and few will find the cheese. Most will be torn to shreds by the cat.
I grant your request to enter. But you can never leave.
The game has begun. Please begin by noticing your environment.
You are locked together in a filthy metal container with artificial lighting at the top. You are given written instructions that one of you will die at the end of this day, and the choice of who plays the victim remains up to you.
The method of execution remains up to your captors. And they will be watching you very closely.
Listen to me.
Name changes are for weaklings. Unless you cut off part of your own name. I know this strong and brave guy, who was once known as AndresTheCunning. In a moment of bravery, he cut off part of his name with a rusty knife and now he is known as Andres.
There was a weakling who had been watching brave Andres. He wanted to appear brave as well, because surely, only the brave are sure to be innocent. Weaklings on the contrary, are those who sneak around at night to kill people.
The weakling who had been watching, was johnhughthom. He really wanted to be "john", "hugh" or "thom" but he was too much of a coward to cut off part of his own name, let alone with a rusty knife.
So, he simply changed it to townhughthom. Instead of being a brave man, he choose the cowardly route. Therefore, he has to be guilty.
Checking in. I'll do my best to do so at least once every 24 hour period.
Reminder to all, check the rules of this game, read them carefully. You'll want to create a voting majority (50%) on a candidate to force them to die.
If no majority is reached, and there has been no voting activity in the past 24 hours, a 24 hour warning will be given. After that, regardless of activity, the round will end 24 hours from the time of the warning.
Therefore you can extend the round at your leisure, simply by voting. You can also suffer a lynch with less than the majority if the voters all seem to be settled on their choice, due to lack of vote movement.
Second: Given the particular warnings we have had about not reaching a majority before the end of the round, it is best to reach a majority. The way I see it, if random, negative, consequences attend a failure to heed the hosts' instructions they will not affect mafiosi. Since R1 lynches are random at best, since a clear favourite, JHT, has been established, it only makes sense to comply with Chaotix's warning... :end:
i want you to drag our newest toy outside of the playpen/
I claim credit for the townhughthom lynch. Makrell and Zack are both townhughthomlynchleaderimpostors!
I am the only real leader!
And you shouldn't fear somebody writing in red letters. I have my name in red letters! All those writing in red letters are wannabe Andreses. Weaklings. They are as fake as my breasts!
Listen to me.
Name changes are for weaklings. Unless you cut off part of your own name. I know this strong and brave guy, who was once known as AndresTheCunning. In a moment of bravery, he cut off part of his name with a rusty knife and now he is known as Andres.
There was a weakling who had been watching brave Andres. He wanted to appear brave as well, because surely, only the brave are sure to be innocent. Weaklings on the contrary, are those who sneak around at night to kill people.
The weakling who had been watching, was johnhughthom. He really wanted to be "john", "hugh" or "thom" but he was too much of a coward to cut off part of his own name, let alone with a rusty knife.
So, he simply changed it to townhughthom. Instead of being a brave man, he choose the cowardly route. Therefore, he has to be guilty.
Vote : townhughthom.
I have an idea for tonight's playtime/
I want you to do the following/
....
Throbbing pain. Dizziness. Nausea.
The young man came to in the middle of a cage, suspended somewhere. All around was impenetrable darkness. His head pounded. He didn't even remember falling asleep.
His body ached. He had no idea why he had been captured, or why he was being tormented. He noticed that he was somehow separated from the others. He felt utterly alone.
Somewhere from the darkness, was the sound of a plastic switch being pressed.
click to play
<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mIBTg7q9oNc?feature=player_detailpage" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="150" width="150"></iframe>
It sounded like a cassette player being switched on.
From what had to be an ancient speaker, the sound of Johnny Cash began to crackle.
As Autolycus stood in his tiny cage, he thought of trying to escape, even though he was disoriented. He began fumbling in the dark for anything, a latch to release himself, or perhaps a bit optimistically, the keys to his cage.
After several moments of the haunting music, a blazing bright light flared before the young man's eyes. He nearly jumped out of his skin.
It seemed that there was an object completely surrounding the cage, which had suddenly ignited in a blinding flash. It happened too quickly for Autolycus' eyes to adjust. At least now he didn't have to work in the dark.
At the second refrain, it seemed that another object had caught on fire. From what Auto could see, his cage was suspended in the middle of a hoop that was made of very combustible material. Not just one, but several hoops, which seemed to be just close enough to one another to burn in sequence.
As each hoop began to burn, it would ignite another one.
Autolycus couldn't see much else, but he did find that his cage was locked by a simple three tumbler combination lock. It was a small possibility that he could simply guess the combination and escape.
He began frantically spinning the tumblers, trying as many three digit combinations as possible. Meanwhile, a third ring caught fire, and then a fourth.
It was getting very hot inside the cage. Autolycus was sweating from fear and from the intensity of the flames. The blinding light made it harder and harder to see anything.
Frustrated by the lack of progress, and desperate to escape, Auto began to rock the cage back and forth, trying to dislodge the cage from within the inferno that had now completely surrounded him. All this seemed to do was move the cage even closer to the fire, and the heat was intolerable.
As his cage swung, he returned to the tumblers. He could barely hear the sweet soothing voice of Johnny Cash over the roar of the flames. The smoke was now stinging his eyes, and he was having difficulty breathing.
He must have tried fifty different combinations in the span of the next minute, to no avail. His head was throbbing, and he could barely stay awake. Only his racing heart was keeping him alert.
The inferno was now so hot, that his skin was beginning to blister. The cage was getting too hot.
Suddenly, material lining the outside of the cage caught fire in one terrible instant. The cage itself was now burning.
Autolycus screamed in terror and pain, shouting for anyone who could hear his cries.
Someone definitely heard his cries for help...
and We enjoyed watching him die/
....
Gas filled the chamber where the victims were assembled. Someone among them was the killer, and had already taken the antidote.
Soon, all but one were completely unconscious. The one left standing began to drag two bodies outside of the holding chamber.
........
Jarema woke, feeling terrible, throbbing pain in his head. He was standing in a dimly lit chamber, atop a metal grate. This new chamber was very small, with smooth sides. It seemed as though it were some kind of massive, industrial-sized machine. Jarema heard noises up above him.
"Hello? Is anyone up there? Please help me get out of here. I'm too pretty to die!"
Instead of a verbal response, Jarema could make out two dark figures standing above him, their faces hidden. They were pulling some kind of tube over the side of the machine, and letting it hang down into the chamber where Jarema was standing.
Jarema looked all around to find any way of climbing out, but the walls were too smooth. He looked down at the metal grate, and it was too small to fit through. It also didn't seem to be any way out, there was nothing but blackness below him, as far as he could tell.
Within a few seconds, something started pouring out of the tube. It was some kind of opaque, white-ish thick fluid, and it began draining into the chamber, and collecting below Jarema in the darkness below the grate.
A loud snapping noise was heard, and the sound of a gas heater being lit echoed throughout the chamber. Jarema knew that this was going to be bad, whatever it was.
"Please? Can anyone hear me? HELLO!!!! I'm trapped down here!!!"
Jarema felt the air in the chamber getting hotter. Quickly, he reached his hand into the falling white fluid, and got a bit of it on his fingers, just to see what horrible torture he was about to endure. He had a macabre sense of curiosity like that.
It didn't sting his hands, and it was neither not nor cold. It just seemed to be thick and oily. He probably could swim in it, even if it kept filling the chamber. He didn't think they were trying to drown him.
The chamber continued to fill, and Jarema frantically tried to make enough noise that someone could hear. But there was no response, not even from his captors.
Soon, the oily substance had filled the bottom of the chamber, and was now flowing through the grate. He was standing in it, and the chamber continued to heat up.
Jarema tasted the oily substance. It was unmistakeable... this was vegetable shortening.
It soon dawned on Jarema what was about to happen to him.
"NO. ANYTHING BUT THAT. PLEASE..... PLEASE!!! JUST SHOOT ME NOW!!!"
The oily substance stopped flowing. It had only filled the chamber up to his ankles. Jarema had a moment to think, and perhaps someone was about to rescue him.
The tube retracted, and no more shortening filled the chamber. The vegetable shortening continued to heat up, until it was too hot to touch. Fortunately for Jarema, he was wearing boots, which provided some protection against the heat.
Jarema couldn't walk around the chamber without getting hot oil inside his boots, so he stood absolutely still, and continued yelling for help. Two figures re-appeared above his head, and he called out to them, pleading with them to let him go. They did not respond.
The oil was now boiling hot, and the boots were beginning to melt. Jarema screamed and screamed, but there was no answer.
The material began to shrink in the intense heat, and it stuck directly to Jarema's feet. His feet were now burning, melting, and filling him with unbelievable pain. And yet, he could do nothing, because the sides of the chamber were too hot to touch, and if he moved or lost his balance, he would feel even worse pain.
He heard screaming, the kind of screaming that he never heard before. His mind went blank, all there was inside his mind was this loud, reverberating scream. It was his own voice.
The pain was unimaginable, and his legs were buckling from the shock. He couldn't continue to stand for much longer.... and death was preferable to even one more second of this torment.
But he couldn't let himself fall in.... he couldn't imagine what that oil would do to his hands, or his face.... so he stood as long as he could...
Until he could stand no more.
His legs lost their strength, as his ankles went completely numb. He fell in the hot, boiling oil, and began to fry while he was still alive.
and We enjoyed watching him die/
rickinator9 began to stir. Like the others, the first thing he felt was a pounding headache. The sleeping agent was definitely not intended for human consumption. It felt like ice picks had been shoved into his temples.
He found himself laying on a table, facing up. His body was pinned down tightly with thick wires, and he couldn't move.
He tried to turn his head, but the wire across his throat made that a very uncomfortable proposition. He was able to sense someone else in the room with him, though the room was only lit by a faint red lightbulb.
He couldn't see much, but he was able to see that there were several dozen thin metal cables running across the ceiling, leading to a machine to his left which was connected to those metal cables, as well as the thick wires which were holding him down. He followed the cables on the ceiling and he saw that they led off into the darkness to his right, where he heard what sounded like a person moving around.
"Hello? Who's there? Please let me out of here. Why are you doing this to me?"
There was no response. Instead, there came the haunting sounds of a music box being opened, and it began to play strange music.
rickinator9 could feel his heart racing. He couldn't free himself at all... there was no chance for escape.
He was not afraid to die, but he could not help thinking of those he would leave behind. He was sorry he could not tell them good-bye.
<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/JCtgTpxgwjc?feature=player_detailpage" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="150" width="150"></iframe>
Someone began playing the piano along with the music box. With every note, a key was pressed. When a key was pressed, the corresponding wire would get tighter. The keys were connected to the machine which controlled the wires holding him down.
The haunting music played, and the piano wires across his body got tighter and tighter. They began to dig into his skin, and soon, rickinator9 was a bloody mess.
Tears rolled down his face, alongside the blood.
The wires kept getting tighter and tighter, and one repetitive note that played over and over again seemed to be connected to the wire that went across his navel.
Soon, it dug all the way through his stomach, and Rickinator could no longer breathe. The pain was unbearable.
But mercifully, the wire that ran across his throat has also done its job. It stopped at Rickinator's spine.
and We enjoyed watching him die/
He is inactive in most of his games here, and I don't think he has posted anything since his in post. If he is not mafia, at least we get rid of a deadweight, inactive, no help townie. We need a majority, and I think we should all vote for him, while it is still early in this game. Then we can see what happens in the write up when we do reach a majority.
Gonna be honest: it's been a while since I've played a mafia game with no reveals, and I'm currently clueless as to what strategy, if any, we should pursue. Is it safe to assume the write-ups are leaving clues? Music and sadism are obvious themes, but I don't see how that helps. So far, music has only factored into night kills.
I assume there are some power roles amongst us. Unfortunately I'm not one, but I would suggest you guys take a chance and reach out to one another privately, form a network, try and get some information to those who can use it. I'll be happy to be a part of it, but I can't offer much more than my pledge of innocence. So having said that, I suggest you power roles reach out to someone other than me, and see what you can figure out.
I can understand exactly why edse acted - anyone killed at random by the behest of Chaotix will not be the guilty party; even if an individual is randomly waggoned for no good reason there is the, admittedly small, possibility of landing ourselves the culprit.
Furthermore, with no official 'WoG' rule there is the possibility that Caius is lurking, hoping this will all blow over...
Possibly - personally I doubt that we can read anything into it at this stage.
To state: 'I shall do this to be cruel and unfair' and then do something else instead fits into the category of being 'cruel and unfair' as a general rule. In fact it is more cruel and unfair by virtue of subverting expectations. This seems a more likely motivation for Chaotix than 'saving his own man'...
Give me one reason why I would defend first edse, then Elite Ferret. Unless you accuse the three of us being in cahoots.
You want a reason for 'facetious'? (1) I like the word; (2) to see whether you'd jump... you jumped.
As scum - you know that you might easily trust in 'the town as a collective', as - at present - town appears to be nothing more than a group of scared and clueless people huddled together at the mercy of some horrible psychotic - befuddled and un-manned by the lack of reveal/only dead are townies thusfar. Some players show typical scumtells in their normal playing style and are easy to make a case against to get them lynched. When I'm scum, I pick "easy" targets myself to build a case against and get them lynched in order to appear townie.
Just like with edse, I can't really lay my finger on it, but the way you (over)react on Curio's posts bothers me. That in combination with this post:
