View Full Version : Small Mafia Game Last Chance
Flavour text to come when I come home. Just making the thread so I can get signups rolling.
Game Setup: Vanilla, with a twist. There are 15 players, 10 townies, 5 mafia. Every time a mafia is lynched, the mafia get to make two kills, every time a townie is lynched, the mafia must sacrifice a member to kill one townie. The game is set up around a guaranteed final 3.
For example:
10:5 - D1
9:5 - N1
8:4 - D2
8:3 - N2
6:3 - D3
6:2 - N3
4:2 - D4
3:2 - N4
2:1 - D5
etc.
The game will end after Day 5. The game will be a lot better if you talk a lot in the thread. It is a relatively quick game, with plenty of info on offer. I would highly advise talking a lot in the thread. There will be no private communication except for the mafia.
Rules:
•24 hour days and 24 hour night phases. Phases may be extended if needed and if I require.
•You may not talk after death. You're dead.
•No screenshots, etc.
•You may NOT talk to players outside the thread.
•You will vote for players you want lynched during the day, using the format, Vote: Visorslash. Votes must be in bold to count. If you wish to unvote, simply: Unvote; Vote: ATPG.
•If you are replaced or WOG killed, please do not post in the thread anymore unless it is an apology. If you are replaced by choice, please don't comment in the game.
•Votes that end in a tie result in a tiebreaking 24 round where only the two/three, etc candidates can be voted for. Votes are reset.
•No lynch is not allowed.
•Don't edit posts with votes. I won't count them.
•If you miss two day phases in a row or 3 in total with any reasonable excuse or informing me why you will be WoG'ed. If you do not vote, it is the same as missing a day. No exceptions for role.
•Have fun. This is not an option . If you don't think you'll have fun with this game... don't join it. Nor if you feel you won't be able to participate.
•Alignment will be revealed on death.

“Sir? There’s something you need to see, in the bridge. It’ll be easier to show you… Sir?”
The Captain sighed and got up out of his chair, an old version of the Saturn model he had kept for old times’ sake. It was designed with the purpose to keep the user from becoming too comfortable as to relax too much or fall asleep, yet still having enough cushioning that it wasn’t a chore to sit down upon. He walked through the cabin and down a way until he had reached the bridge. The security officer Jones had a light sheen on his face, he looked worried by something.
“Yes?” As Jones got up and approached the Captain and handed him a few sheets of paper that had technical words of some description on them. “You need to read these. I was monitoring the cameras, and I keep seeing strange things. First I watched as some of the food in Storage A became rotten in front of my very eyes.”
The Captain narrowed his eyes. “A leak in the sealant, surely?”
“It isn’t a leak in the sealing when the food reverts back to its original state sir. Check the logs on the screen, there is something on our ship that isn’t human.” Jones pointed with a shaky arm at the various feeds on the screen.
“Watch this.” Jones rewound the film and played it out over high speed. “I’m telling you, that doesn’t happen normally, I’ve been on hundreds of trips and never seen something like this. Something is aboard the ship.”
The captain rubbed his chin, “You said strange things, what else have you seen?”
As Jones opened his mouth, a female scream was heard. The pair looked at each and ran in the direction of the sound. The hum of the engines and ventilation accompanied them along their journey, as they rounded the hallways of the ship. Suddenly they ran into a very pale, very white Emma.
“He did it! He tried to kill me!” she screamed at Jones, finger raised accusatorily.
Jones stopped abruptly in confusion. The captain looked from Emma to Jones and back again. “He did what?”
“I saw him; he was walking towards me with an axe in his hand. He had a terrible smile on his face and I only stopped him by locking that panel.” She pointed to the closed door on the opposite side of the captain and Jones.
“But… I know that code. If that was me I could’ve unlocked that.” Jones said, face as white as Emma’s now.
The captain raised his hand. “Jones was with me the entire time. He couldn’t have done this. Something is aboard the ship. Call the crew, we’ll assemble in the bridge.”

“Something or someone is amongst us, who wasn’t part of the original crew. They seem to be taking the shape of various objects, one took the form of Jones. Don’t trust anyone. There must be a way to find out who is real and who is not.”
The scientist, David, spoke up, “We could put them into stasis and run a check? They surely couldn’t keep the appearance up forever.
The captain nodded. We’ll throw someone in stasis every day until we get rid of our imposter. We’ll let you out when we them. Secure your rooms, carry protection at all times. We will make it out of here alive.”
With a nod, he dismissed the rest of the crew and began to watch the recordings. They were under siege in their own ship.
Small note: I am not a writer, I do this for fun, don't judge too harshly. :tongue:
I intend for the night writeups to be a lot more entertaining then the day writeups.
Sent out a bunch of invites, if this doesn't start filling soon, I'll close it for other people to host a game.

Well what do you know, actually got the 15 players. Will randomise and start the game tonight.
Roles have been randomised and sent out. I will post a short flavour introduction to the day and then we will begin.
A few hours had passed by before the call sounded. The captain ordered all hands to the bridge. There he sat with a circle of 15 files on the table.
"Read, talk, discuss. We will find this beast. We must choose someone to put into stasis now, whilst we have an advantage."
With a flourish of his hands, the members of the crew slowly approached the table and begin to read.
Day 1 has begun. You have 24 hours to discuss your situation. The round ends at 7:10 PM GMT+10.
Sidenote: You may also vote for an extension of the day if you want, as long as it gets a majority it will be accepted.
You may now begin to talk and discuss.
Okay, the timer is obviously incorrect. It isn't recognising the +10. Therefore just go from what I posted above, 7:10 PM GMT+10 is the phase change.
Timer is looking funny. NaN days, hours, minutes and seconds.

But who would you propose?
Riedquat, BSmith and Sprig should be among the last in my opinion (that I quickly made up). I realise it's hard to not lynch mafia by mistake and that some of the chosen may be mafia but I believe this is close to the winning strategy if just someone would help me formulate it a bit better.

Result: one scumbag dead and two townies in every possible case.
We can either have the satisfaction of knowing we lynched scum, and then having them kill 2 of us off, or we can mistakenly lynch one of our own and then have the mafia sacrifice one of themselves in order to kill another one of us.
As DF has said, end result is the same. 2 townies per scum. The name of the game is to be one of the three last standing.

By this tally, Chief Pappy is lynched.
End of Day Phase 1
Voices were raised, arguments presented, cases examined and in the end, they lined up Terry, otherwise known as Chief Pappy, one of the maintenance crew. The argument was raised that the creature would strike at him first, as he know the workings of a lot of the ship. It won out over the argument to stasis lock Morgan, who wanted to be thrown in there anyway. His reasoning was that if they got it right, he would live, but he had a good chance of dying if they got it wrong. A few people found this suspicious and wanted to freeze him, but he stood firm.
They led Chief to his chamber, where he opened the door and prepared for a hopefully short sleep. "I'll see you guys later." he said nervously.
The doors closed and the glass fogged up. The scanner was showing human readings, normal to his earlier records.
The captain nodded to the rest of the crew, "We'll inspect him and gather again in a few hours. Take a break and we'll meet back here in 4 hours."
The crew walked off in silence.
Chief Pappy was lynched. He was innocent!
Night ends at 7 PM GMT +10, 23 hours and 15 minutes from this post.

End Night Phase 1
Rick 'Rickinator' Johnson left the bridge with no intention of getting any rest. He had to prepare for the alien, as the lead engineer, his knowledge was essential to keeping everyone alive. Booting up his room AI, he loaded his favourite playlist of songs, a mixture of old Earth songs that his father had enjoyed and passed on. As the songs began to play, he started tinkering with the controls for the ship, with the doors, the ventilation, anything that he thought could be used to save himself and the crew.
It was while he was doing this, that Cindy Ishmael Turner knocked on the door. Rick was quite smitten over Cindy, and hadn't yet worked up the courage to ask her for a drink. So when she came to say hello, it was pleasant surprise. He answered the door with an awkward smile and the words flew out his mouth before she had a chance to say anything.
"What can I do for you?" She looked him up and down and smiled.
"I need a hand with something in the cargo bay, one of my boxes won't unlock." she said with a smirk on her face.
Thoughts raced through Rick's head. If that sounded the way he thought it did, this might be his chance. "Sure, no worries. I'll come down now. I'm not doing anything much."
He quickly added the new controls to his suit, grabbed his cardkey and left.

Cindy led Rick down the hallways to the cargo bay, into station B2. "Its the third box on the right, second shelf. I've got something for you when you get it for me."
Rick was slightly confused at that, why wouldn't she wait here with him? Unless... he smiled to himself and walked over to the box. As his suit scanner started to scan the box for the code, a red light started flashing on the roof. Suddenly, the door between B2 and the bay had shut.
"Airlock opening in one minute!" the AI announced.
Rick looked to the door and through the reinforced glass panel could see Cindy's smiling face. Rick's face turned white. His mind began racing.
Why was Cindy smiling?
Oh no.
I need to stop the countdown.
Quickly, quickly!
Why can't I access it?
Why is locked? The passcode can't have changed? I MADE the passcode!
"30 seconds remaining until airlock opening! Please evacuate the area!"
I can't access the controls. I'm going to die.
Rick laughed uncontrollably.
"15 seconds remaining!"
Wait.
I might not be able to access the codes for the station, but I can access it for the bay.
Rick muttered feverishly to himself as he began to lock Cindy inside the cargo bay itself.
"5 seconds remaining! Four! Three!" The countdown continued.
With the last remaining seconds, he shut down the ventilation for the cargo bay.
He looked up, and his final view was of Cindy, face as white as his, as she struggled for air.
With a small smile, Rick exploded into a bloody mess with the pressure change.
"Airlock in Station B2 has been opened!"

"Captain? We have reports you need to see. What remains of Rick is floating outside our ship, and Cindy has died outside the ejected station in the cargo bay. David thinks that Cindy was controlled by the alien, and died as the form it had inhabited couldn't live without oxygen. Someone must have shut down the oxygen in the cargo bay. We think Rick did it before he died. There is no change in Chief either."
The captain nodded. "Gather the crew. We will have a short funeral this morning for Rick. We must find the alien. We must put someone else in the chambers."
Ishmael was killed. He was an alien.
Rickinator9 was killed. He was an innocent.
Day ends in 24 hours at 7:30 PM GMT+10.

That doesn't help indeed, I grant you that. My reasoning was bad, but my vote still stands. Out of all the people who voted, Lazy seems the scummiest. (OMGUS D1, Revote of the same OMGUS D2)

This is not a normal game. A large amount of bussing is bound to happen since a dead mafia member doesn't mean that much to them.

Au contraire edse, the final day is precisely when I shine most. I talk more as games go on. At the start of a game there is much dung to be flung, and not much of it sticks. Towards the end game, there *should* be a lot more to go on.

Dcmort was part of the security contingent for the ship. Unfortunately for him, the alien would be coming in human clothing. Maintenance requested assistance with heavy lifting, and as security it was his job to do all the crap jobs on the ship. As he entered the small room on the lower deck he quickly spied Jarema about to leave. With a few quick steps, he sprinted over to him and put his hand on his shoulder.
"Not so fast techie, you're going to show me what to lift."
Jarema's pale, sweaty face was an almost instant giveaway, and he tried to wrestle out of the grasp, but DC was too strong. He pinned him down on the floor.
"Now you die, alien!"
He pulled out his gun and fired, unaware of the gas that had been seeping into the room.
The resulting explosion required several decks to be locked down and the rest of the security team to identify the bodies.

The Captain brought the crew together again for another attempt at freezing the alien.

Vote Sprig. I am suspicious of his last minute attempt to tie things up. If lazy is scum the votes on him may be am attempt to get townie cred and at the same time let the aliens kill two of us instead of having to pick one of themselves that we have little suspicion of.

Cause Autolycus doesn't give any info by lurking, so there is no way to find out wether he is town or scum. Voting him might give him the enticement to at least say something, giving us something to analyse.
Also, should he end up with the last three (even as a townie), consequences would be disastrous.

Unfortunately that came to an end tonight. Their mutilated bodies were found in the bridge as the last three crew members gathered, this was their last chance to eliminate the alien. On the other hand, why would they kill Lazy? He could have been a good contender for final scum. I would probably have voted him over DF. This combined with DF's highlighting of the hypothetical set up really makes me wonder if DF isn't the last one.
My initial voting of Sprig was due to me thinking he and Lazy were partners, and he wanted to have us lynch an alien so they didn't have to out one of their own. Now that Lazy is innocent that lessens my initial case on him.
Ugh. Going to have to go with my gut here at the moment, and unvote; vote: Darth Feather. I am open to changing my mind.

Hmm didn't expect edse to go like that. Dissapointing. Although I was expecting both Zain and Darth to bite the bullet last night. It would have been a shitty situation to choose between Bsmith and Lazy.

BSmith and Sprig were very quick to decide that Darth Feather was the likely alien. The way he had connected himself to edse and his previous contributions lead straight back to him. As they dragged him into the stasis chamber, they noticed that edse's result had come back as foreign.
It was a tense wait for the remaining two, but eventually Darth came back as negative. They had chosen successfully. Freeing the three innocent members of the crew, they let the stasis chamber 'clean up' the other two bodies.
Darth Feather was put in stasis, he was an alien.

I think I will try to host my game in which I will try to adres what I think was the main problem of this one: lack of incentive for town to lynch mafia. That was really weird, I still do not know if it was better for town to kill mafia or townie. And I am leaning to an answer, that it didnt matter at all
