View Full Version : Adding buildings to MTW
I am trying to add a building to MTW. Following the unit guide (from another post), I copied and pasted the building to the end of the txt file. However when I try to open the txt file with Gnome all I get is a formatting error. Any suggestions ?

Greetings Iggy, Here is a good post on adding buildings to MTW
To add a new building into the tech tree
Make all the required entries in build prod,
Thats the hardest bit, getting all the tabs correct
then add
[New Building] {new building} to loc/names.txt
and
[New Building_desc] {this is the new building} to loc/descriptions.txt,
along with the completed and destroyed entries.
[New Building_Completed] {New Building Completed.}
[New Building_Destroyed] {New Building Destroyed.}
plus bif's into
campmap/info pics/buildings
campmap/info pics/buildings/coloured
campmap/review panel/buildings
it's as simple as that :-)
cheers,
B.
As far as your error it sounds like either to many charcaters to a space or a mispaced tab the prod files can be real touchy, always make back ups before you make your edits this was you can start from scratch if you cannot identify your error and correct it. LOS
If you are editing the text file and don't want to screw up the tabs and spacing like LOS said, this is how I do it. It's a litte tedious but it's a lot less tedious than going over it again and again to try and find the mistake.
Pick a building roughly similar to your new building. I.E. if you are building a barracks pick County Watch. Highlight the text, and only the text that you want to replace, by dragging over it with the mouse. Once it is highlighted start typing, the letters will be replaced but all the spacing and tabs around it will be untouched. Don't touch the spacebar, you don't need to. This is how I did all of my mods before I got gnome editor and it works well.
