View Full Version : New mod requested, would enhance SP immensely...

After watching movies like braveheart, troy, gladiator, and others I realized one of the flaws that makes the game easier and less realistic is the "sticking" generals, the jedis. They get uber and never die, and hundreds of years pass. They stay faithfully loyal to king, after king, after king.
I propose that you make a mod that will allow generals to increase in vices and virtues fast, like in the span of one lifetime. This will allow heros to rise fast and valiantly, winning a war and coming out a Fine leader, and getting killer instinct, gaining stars of command and leading his armys to conquer multiple lands...
But then one day in his elder years he dies, and what becomes of his unit? Well the warriors remain. Whatever command the general had that added a valor bonus it would go automatically permanantly to the soldiers that were under his command. However, all the vices, virtues, command, acumen etc are reset. The character starts new. This will allow heroic characters whos names you will remember as they conquer those precious lands you need. After that new heroes must arise.
This will add immense challenge to the game, and provide a more realistic play to the game.
So to recap, generals die of old age, all attributes reset, valor bonus of deceased general remains. His vices and virtues are accelerated greatly, obtaining them even with one check.
Ever tried using the commandline -green_generals (not sure if I typed it correctly)?
It does somewhat what you asked for. If I'm correct it doesn't reset all V&V's, but does some. But the next general in the line gets less stars etc aswell. So the generals will become poorer then their predecessors.
To get the -green_generals commandline working:
- Rightclick on the shortcut used to start the game and choose Properties.
- You'll see the Source, which will look something like this: "E:\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.EXE" - This is where I got my vanilla MTW installed. So yours might have a different origin.
- Put -green_generals behind the line like this: "E:\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.EXE" -green_generals
Furthermore I don't think you'll be able to mod what you requested. I think it's hardcoded.

Well if its not possible at least they should consider adding this as a difficulty setting for Rome... Still would be nice to see completely new generals, with faster skill gain.

i thought "greengenerals" only works on VI, because dying generals was only introduced in VI.

from froggys guide
command lines for MTW
These are not exactly cheats; instead you add them to your MTW or VI shortcut. Right click on your shortcut, and then choose properties. In the target box you should see something like:
"F:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.exe"
if you have plain MTW or
"F:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.exe" -strictserver
if you have both MTW and VI. To add a shortcut you must leave one space after the " mark, then enter the command line. To use multiple command lines just leave a space between each one and remember to include the - at the start of each successive line. Choose to save your changes and exit the properties box. Then start the game with the shortcut.
-ian - debug mode, runs in a smaller screen, you can move the camera about more in the battle maps to get close up views, you can disable the AI or switch factions using the number keys. The A key allows you to put the game on auto run.
-loyalty:X - sets the auto tax to maintain X loyalty where X is the number you want. Always use more than 100 at the very minimum unless you want a lot of rebellions. I recommend 120 for a reliable income and reasonably reliable loyalty or 180 to maintain very high loyalty and rarely see a rebellion.
-strictserver - a multiplayer related command that is on by default for all VI installations. Just leave it alone.
-green_generals - for VI only. When a general dies his replacement won't be identical to him in stats, vices and virtues. Instead the new man will be slightly weaker.

Nice thanks for the Ian mode, what do you mean by smaller screen? If youve tried it when you switch between factions does it change years? Or could you theoretically play all the factions at teh same time? Im gonna have to try this out...

ok ive played around with it a bit. I dont know how to disable to AI yet, but ive found I can access the first 10 factions using the num keys, and the second 10 holding shift and pushing the num keys, but I cant figure out how to access the other 12 that you can use (game supports up to 32). Hmm....

There is another command you can try if you have MTW - Vikings. Its the .nuttermode. command you type in the strategic phase. This greatly increases the AI aggression level.
