View Full Version : Another new MedMod convert

Well, I'm now playing my second MedMod campaign, and I love it. Way harder. My first campaign I played early/hard/Russians and got my butt whipped, which hasn't happened to me in quite some time in MTW. Very cool. Anyway, now I am playing early/hard/Almos and have just finished wiping the despicable Spanish from the face of the Earth. I built a shipwright in Leon and was ready to begin pumping out ships to expand my dominance on the north half of the map. Only one problem: for some reason it won't let me build ships in Leon, even though it's listed as part of the Almo homelands. Anybody know why not?

I think muslims can only build ships around the Mediterrannean. Only French and Spanish can build ships on the Atlantic and Mediterranean coast.

cutepuppy is right. Wes has said that will be changed (and if he hasn't said that, he should say so immidiately) in the next version. However, you can mod it yourself; go to the crusader_unitprod11.txt , go down until you find the ships the almohads use, and then seek a large amount of region names. There, add Leon, Portugal, Navarre and Aquitaine to the list.

When you get to France you will be able to build ships. It is not just the Muslims that can't build ships in Spain, as the Italians and the Byz I did not have that ability either. This is probably the one thing about Medmod 3.14 that I dislike. After all the work to actually take Spain, it doesn't get you access to shipping in the Atlantic.

When you get bored and can win in Medmod with most factions, try the Germans. You will suffer one utterly humiliating after the other until you figure it out.

I don't see that happening (getting bored, I mean). I can't even win with the Germans in vanilla MTW.

I thought the crusader_unitprod11.txt file only applied to vanilla MTW, not MedMod. With that in mind, I looked for what I thought was the file that would apply to MedMod, something like MM_total_unit.txt (or something like that, I'm not at my PC right now and can't remember the exact name of the file, but the contents of the file looked exactly like those of the crusader_unitprod11.txt file) and inserted the provincial names I wanted as instructed above.

The problem is, I still can't build Dhows in Leon (not sure about the others, as I don't have shipwrights built there yet). So, one of two things has gone wrong:

Either:

Ellesthyan was right, and it is the crusader_unitprod11.txt file I need to mod,

or

I was right, but the mod won't take effect in my existing game and I need to start a new one.

Can any of you modding wizards out there let me know what I need to do?

Im sorry, I made a mistake, I should have said MM_total_unit.txt .

Still, it will not change your current campaigns, but only a new one.

@ ah_dut, thanks.

blitz and turtle is great for any faction although I find it a bit cheap now.

still, I find that in medmod, I have to blitz more and as the germans, it seems the only way to survive.

lynchpin defense with burgundy, austria, and saxony as provinces in which you stack huge defensive armies is good.

you have token garrisons that retreat into the forts and you simply sally with reinforcements from one of the lynchpins and you'll win the battle.

as long as you don't get your lynchpin armies destroyed, you'll have secure borders without breaking the bank or taking huge loyalty hits.

OK, changed the MM_Full_unit_prod file and started a new game. Guess what? I still can't build ships in Leon or Portugal and I'm starting to lose my mind Does anybody know what I have done wrong?

Normally changes in unit_prod can take effect in an existing game, but I'm not sure about wesmod. changes in the startpos file won't take effect without a new game though (naturally...)

Ellesthyan, have you successfully modded the file to be able to produce ships in Western Iberia? If so, maybe you can just email me the modded file and save us both some time. Please PM me and I'll give you my email address. I would have PM'd you with this, but your box is full.

I believe the Byz can build ships in Lithuiania. At least, that's what I remember from a campaign as them.

Goofball, I have no idea what may have gone wrong with your modding. I tried adding ID_PORTUGAL to the list of other provinces, and in my new campaign as the Almohads I could create dhows in Portugal.

To mod in the game that you can create dhows in whole Iberia, replace the list of provinces in the unitprod with this:
