Is it just me or does it seem like everyone is dying in your intro picture?
only 4 out of 5...
I like the picture will it also be included in the game in some sort of way?
talking about this will you also make a new intro movie,make a new Ui for the menu, add new music and speech to the game? Will you also change other aspects like EB (traits etc...?)

Great work as usual hoggy, i'm really impressed by both your CGI and hand drawn stuff. Keep up the great work. Just one suggestion, keep the Samurai fighting the demons but put them to one side, have the chinese fighting demons on the opposite side and the Indian fighting the demons in the middle of the background, then it would be a true Blue Lotus splash screen.

Hey Hoggy, though it's been said before... you are a god among modders! Do you secretly work for Blizzard?
Anyway, I'm sure you've looked around on the EB forum and noticed their new animations, especially the 2 handed animations for swordsmen, spearmen, and mounted lancers. They are all relevant to your mod probably right?
Have you worked out your own animations or are you thinking about borrowing some from the EB team, or a little bit of both?
Oh an BTW, about that list you were supposed to send me...
Ah, yes. sorry Turin, keep forgetting. Ive got it on a bit of paper so i will get round to it. For animations I'm definitely going to be looking around for anims to use. I'm going to have a go at a couple where i know there are no suitable ones and use that as a test to wether i can do them or not.

I could make a bigger one, but I had to care about the sig limit, you know. My Turkish themed sig already takes away most of it.. Anyway it looked simple and good enough to me, that's why I got it pasted over there..

I like the peacock idea. I think that would go better with the idea that they're the richest faction.

I know its a little late to make civilization suggestions but what do you guys think about adding a Malaysian/Indonesian side? We got a good assortment of different "cultures" and adding them will give them the game a islamic culture.

Same here, I really can't wait for this mod and Hoggy already has enough in the way of factions. I mean if he was turning out models of bland knights or peasants ( like middle ages mods ) I would want plenty of different factions. But when they all have this much personality and depth, no thanks. Hoggy has MORE than enough for me. ~:cheers:

We had mentioned it a while back hoggy, but I wanted to know what you were thinking about battle maps. I'm sure it's really far from your mind right now, but I'm still very interested in maps for custom battle in Blue Lotus that feature villages, fields, other geographical features, choke points, and a bit more structure and
interest to them than the standard Total War maps. If possible, it would be nice to add these features into the Campaign too, with random villages and more interesting terrain.

I think it's for BI. He may make it compatible for both though.
We're going to hopefully make it for BI but we're still looking into what the limitations are. If it turns out BI won't support BL we'll stick with the version we've got but BI is looking the most probable. It's an awfully large amount of work and as usual Blindfaithnogod will bear the brunt of it if we do it. So, jury is still out...

if you can play RTW you should be able to play BI... as i understand it.
but with a big lag they say. Someone, I believe it was Prometheus (not sure), posted somewhere that BI battles lag. And that he couldn't play huge battles anymore and he had to turn lots of video options lower...
So it might be slow but I don't know much about computers.

A torrent is not necessary, just a straight a simple download with multiple mirrors would do.
Not sure how we're going to be releasing it yet but it is going to be big as we're replacing alot of files. We'll sort something nearer to the time.
On a different note I noticed that BL is a year old today! ... ! (d@#n that went fast!) As an update I'm currently doing animations with the help of Bwian and Blindfaith is converting BL to RTW 1.3 which is the version I think we are going to go with. I am estimating roughly a January release at the moment... but don't quote me. Thanks to everyone for your support over the past year, I hope the product lives up to your expectations :bow:

and that religion thingy isn't really that much. The night battles are quite nice to see but don't add that much to gamemplay. I think that the only "cool" addition are the hordes really. But If I have to choose tiny battles for a lil' light affects and that one horde option or giant battls with ots of beautifull models. I'd choose the latter.
1 year? So that means that not only EB is slow ~;)

The patch includes the AI improvements, all the other stuff is really just fluff.

Hello, sorry about the shortage of posts lately. We're still plugging away at it. Parts of the conversion are proving tricky but we're getting there.

You know, It amazes me that no one since Hoggy Has made a fantasy mod for R:TW! I thought that the Fantasy genre was a trget audience for the average TW fans!
I know this doesnt want to be labled with 'Fantasy' as it is ased more on Mythology more than Fantasy but I think the two are closely related!
The sheer depth and Creativity someone like Hoggy can bring to a Mod in R:TW is unfathomable!
As far as I can tell there seems limitless boundries to which you can tweek the game that anything is possible!
You can create an entirley new map, you can create new unit animations and designs, you can change the units stats, scenery even weapons! So what are the boundries that tie the R:TW modders to what they can and cannot do?
Can you make flying Units? Now I know I would love to see Dragons!
...So why has no one until Hoggy started developing a Mythological based Mod?
I don't know if anyone is familiar with Games Workshop, but a mod based on their Warhammer fantasy game would be amazing!
Still I have to say congratulations to Hoggy for being the first pioneer into the realm of creating not only the first Mythological based Mod but what looks like the most creative and eargerly anticipated Mod to date!

And Flying units probably aren't possible. They'd function no differently to land-bound units despite their model being twenty feet in the air. It would look a bit questionable when swordsman charge a dragon fifty feet at the air, slash at the ground it's flying over, and cause damage to it.
Is that just a guess or are you programmer m aterial yourself?
As for Men and Monsters well I didn't know about that bad boy! still that looks very much so in the making! and will take a good while before it is produced!
So as a fantsy fan are there any other mods that i may be looking forward to ? :san_huh:

On a seperate issue, just a quick update. Blindfaith is working on the conversion to 1.3/5 as we speak. I'm off for Christmas now til around the 5th of January so no updates for a while. I've been concentrating on a bunch of small details. Boat models for the strat map, landscape textures, destroyed versions of the battlefield wall models and numerous other small art jobs. Pixelgenie is going to do 2 new Mongol units which are undecided as yet although one will be thunder bombers. Apologies if it's been a bit quiet recently but the work goes on.

No, you can't play vanilla with a mod installed. But you can just copy the vanilla directory before you install the mod, then you'll have two installs, one modded, one vanilla, and you can play both.

Hi Hoggy.
Thanks for keeping us updated, its really apreaciated, as is all your hard work you and the team have put into the mod. I think i speak on belave of all BL fans that were getting pretty excited as it seams like your getting close to some sort of release.
I have a question, once BL is done, is there a possibility you might convert it to Medeval 2? The screen shots of ME2 look pretty amazing & the upgraded RTW engine must be pretty powerful, let alone all the new features.
Anyway, thanks again, cant wait for more info.

At the moment we're doing it as a seperate install i'm afraid folks. We need custom battles for testing and apparently they don't work using the shortcut. We may change this later.
MTW2 does look great, I have to say it is a large part down to the difference in quality of the artwork and the added processing power. At the moment we're just doing RTW and concentrating on a release for that but who knows...

Every day I come to look and see if it is done or if there is a beta out or something like that, is another day I sigh and look off into the distance. Delayed gratification. I'd do it too. to bad I already have 9 installs: 1 Rtw vanilla 1.2, 1 Rtw vanilla 1.5, 3x Eb (different versions: the OB and two cprevious versions), Chivalry, Rtr6.0,Lotr totalwar, the 4th age total war and SPQR.
... hmm that makes 10 ohwell I'll be download ing BL too. One more can't hurt. (Said this about 8 times already but oh well.)

In case you hadn't seen this, a modder named kagemusha has discovered how to place STW assasination movies into the RTW assasination message graphic (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=60881). Since Blue Lotus has a far eastern theme, you could probably use them "as is". It would be a neat new feature.

the thing is the event pics for each faction are one and the same (correct me if i am wrong)... so it would be for every faction ninjas etc... but i suppose you could make it in EDB that the demons etc can't hire any assasins but that wouldn't be very balenced....

On the other hand, this is a fantasy mod. Which means you could announce that in Blue Lotus all "hit-men" belong to a Clan of Assassins (all ninja) who are available to the highest bidder.
Yes that's the idea. Ninjas are assasins for all factions in BL. They kill for the highest bidder. Not sure if we'll use the ninja movies yet, we'll see if they fit.

I think you're missing the point here, what they mean is that the people that the ninjas kill in the movies are only japanese people, the models for the ninjas isn't the issue.

Ok, just a quick update of where we are. Sorry it's been quiet for a while. Basically the conversion to 1.5 has been throwing up problems and in many cases CTD's have occured without show_err picking them up. Currently Dromikaites is trying to work out why our battles won't play without ctd and we hope to get that sorted this weekend. We are onthe case but it's just taking much longer than expected. Thank you to everyone for being patient, we'll get there eventually! :) :bow:

I work since now two months on a problem of animation on my mod. I have just discovered that the patch 1.3/1.5 broke the good working of the files of my mod. So, does blue lotus will work with RTW 1.5/1.6? Do you think all errors Dromitakes meet are because 1.3/1.5 patch ? I've notice all actual mods work only with 1.2, it's strange. Why you don't release a 1.2 compatible version before a 1.5/1.6 version ?

I don't think they have a date. When porting to another version or fixing bugs you don't know when you will be done. Unexpected things happen.
The closest we can say really is this summer. Hopefully before MTW2.

Ok folks sorry about the long stint with no update. We had a few setbacks putting together a working 1.5 version. We now have a working version of 1.5 thanks to Dromikaites but we need to get a few bits together yet before it's workable enough to go to closed beta testing. Shouldn't be long now though possibly a week or 2. Thanks for your patience guys.

The patch update includes unit balancing overhaul so we just need to test that. After that the release will probably have some CTDs which will mean saving before each turn. They are currently randomly generated by the AI during their turn so it's probably linked to names or another file. Hopefully they will be fixed but the release may still have some bugs. Not enough hopefully to affect the overall game.

Excellent mod, best so far! Are the factions finalised, or are you thinking of adding any more for the final version? If you do add more factions, might I suggest an Annamese-like faction to the south of Zhuanshi (I suggested this idea to you a while ago, and you said you'd consider it)? This faction could be similar to Zhuanshi, but would have elephants, and no chariots.

Yes, that's possible but that would take a lot of time, really a lot. And as we already don't have much manpower we're not going to put much in stuff like that.

To translate everything? Or what do you mean? About all the txt files in data/text I guess and you might also want to change the faction descr. Perhaps even some more files I can't come up with atm. If you want the full list PM me And I'll have a quick look. Tough I think that should be about all.

Yes, there'll be a new version out this fall. I and son Goku are working and finishing up on it. Progress at the moment is a bit slow as I'm currently at university with not all my files transfered to my new laptop, while Son Goku has problems with his computer. However it shouldn't take to long anymore anyway. ~:2thumbsup:
...having problems with his computer... is an euphemism, haha. My graphics accelerator simply decided to melt away. So: no BLTW for me until I find the time to have this fixed (which will take some weeks).
Btw, Moros, did the last walls-and-buildings-patch I sent you work? The building requirements for the new walls are not in the EDB yet (I think), but you can take a look at them in custom battles. At least, that was the last think I was able to do before meltdown-day ^^/

I am personally much too involved to not finish this diamond of a mod. But I`ll be open: Start thinking about it as a christmas present if I have to finish it on my own. The thing is: Notebook`s graphic chip molten -> estimated time of repair about 1 1/2 month... Ah. Did I mention that was the only powerful PC I have ^^/?
Well for the moment there isn't that much work to be done. Only problem is that due to problems with transfering my files form my other pc to my laptop, I can only work at weekends, when I have little time.
However no need for worries at all. :2thumbsup:

it's really good to see this mods still active. I have a question- will the new version be contained within it's own mod folder? I'm enjoying playing lotr-tw at the moment and wouldn't want to have to copy my entire rome-tw folder, I have very little disc space.

Sorry, due to being a project that has been started years ago, BLTW is a "total conversion" - type mod that overwrites most original RTW folders. As such, it is very jealous of any other mods. Not that there would be much it has to be jealous of, mind you ^.^/

Now it's Christmas I have had time to play every unit in the mod, and I have 3 last rquests, then I promise I'll vanish and you wll never hear of me again...

3. THis may be over the line, I don't mind if it is, just tell me. On the Chariots I've been trying to alpha out the umbrella shade jobbity, but it's really ****ing me and my graphics guys around and not working, suddenly reappearing, etc, etc. Would it be possible for me to take the umbrella and pole off the model altogether?

Just to make you guys Happy.
I'm currently working about 2-3 hours a day on BLTW;
but believe me, while the original modders did an awesome
job as is, they had no common "system" for modding.
This results in most of the modded data being made up
of patchworked patchworks, and it is very time-consuming
to identify what exactly is linked to what in the final product.
Since they also didn't cleanly throw out the old, now unused
RTW files either (which was not necessary I guess, since they
all knew all-too-well what they were doing), the internal structure
of BLTW is just as chaotic as the original CA RTW one - and those
familiar with modding RTW will know what I'm talking about. Of the
2.something GB RTW consumed on your HDD, about 1 GB is unused
garbage. Waste. Decoy. Dummy-files never used by the game.
It has taken me some time to get familiar with that fact; and at
one point, I decided to overhaul the whole thing and try to give
it a common, easy-to-recognize, logical structure. Well. And on
they way there, I learned how to model. And how to skin. And
how to script. And lo! - as I also was in the middle of digging
through piles of files anyway, why not correct some errors in
the models, buildings and so on...? Why not give the Yomi walls
that actually work (the Gatehouse didn't)? Why not add new
animations and effects to crumbling walls? Why not correct the
bugs on the map? Why not find the cause of those nasty random
CTD'S? Why not include the Terracotta Army models and throw in
the Jade Emperor for fun? I simply decided to do it. So that's
what kept me busy.
I can not say when I'll be done. But I can say: I am doing.
