I suppose you mean walking on the red line? Yes it can happen sometimes. Yesterday I was flanked by half a unit of naked fanatics who went over the red line and stabbed my spear warband in the back. (I was camping at the corner) ~D

No, I mean that the people outside the red line have differrent weapons. that is a single unit on the screen.
They changed whenever a soldier crossed the line.

Didn't they tell? Guess not. There is a secret armory outside the red line that allows your troops to exchange weapons. ~D Haha.

Those short versions of the pikes that are also shown when greek pikemen are awaiting on the walls. They are a clever technique of fitting them in small spaces.

In this case though it's just a glitch.
