View Full Version : Getting some cheats to work

Hi everyone.

I got RTW yesterday evening and I personally think it is a great game. Of course, I have heard people say it isn't as good as Medieval TW, but I can't really comment on that since I never played Medieval. I played Shogun TW before, but that was years ago and I hardly remember much of it other than the cool battles.

So anyway, as my username indicates, I'm a chronic cheater. I played RTW fairly for about ten minutes, then I decided that it was time to whip out the trainers and cheat codes. It took a bit to download the latest patch, and it was pretty late and I needed to sleep. Anyway, I did try some console cheats, but I didn't get some of them to work, so I decided to ask you guys for some help.

I'll quote the cheat that I couldn't get to work in specific.

date year: changes date

Now I tried to write things like 'date 800BC' or 'date 800 BC' or just 'date 800' and none of them worked. Can someone give me some ideas how they're done properly so I can get them to work? Thanks. ~:)

if you want help, go into the command console and type something like this:

?date

or

?toggle_fow

the ? before the cheat will tell you what it does, if you have the '?' before the cheat, and it gives you an error message, then the cheat doesnt exist.

hope i helped

Thanks, I'm at college right now, so I'll have to wait until I get back home before trying. :)

I've always wondered how you got that '?' to get you some help on the various cheats, and thanks to you, now I know! ~:pat:

I just wanna say on thing about the "toggle_fow" cheat. Its cool because it lets you see everything but it has 1 big drawback.

NOBODY CONQUERS!!

I was playing on campaign with this cheat engabled and I found out that almost all of the factions have conquered either none or at most 2 cities.

This kinda sucks because it takes a lot out of the game because you become the only one that is expanding and makes it all too easy.

I like playing without fow of war but its just not worth it. Im experimenting right now to see what would happen in I turn the FOW off at the begining of each turn and turn it back on brfore I end my turn. I hope this helps with the AI because when FOW os disabled they barely do anything.

Report back later with my results.

I think you are seeing the AI LoadGame bug/"feature". I don't think it has anything to do with FOW except it makes it more apparent. I had thought that FOW might be causing it, but you can play one of the Roman factions and see the results with the other 2 without the cheat.

Well, I did it! I got all the console cheats to work thanks to the cheats unlocker thing!

People say that cheating steals the fun from the game, but in my case, it actually ADDS to the fun of the game. I hardly ever play fair in RTS games, and RTW is not exception.

Of course, should I ever play multiplayer, then I won't cheat, cause that's not fair and takes the fun away from other people, which is the whole point of multiplaying anyway.

So far I haven't taken Rome over, and I really wonder why I gt the feeling I should start over. I guess it's just my nature... starting over and over and over again for no apparent reason. Ahh well...

I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for helping me out. I'll still be lurking every now and then looking for mods, but I don't think I'll be posting much.

Cheers everyone, and happy conquering! :D
