I have dial up, due to the url avatar size debate I got wondering how many people have broadband v how many have dial up. Myself I am stuck with dial up. Woo Hoo.
BTW if you have 56k please post what speed it runs at most of the time. Mine runs at 52k without fail.

Broadband. I can't imagine life on dial up. ISP is cox.net.

Broadband. Optimum online. I believe its the fastest cable connection in the world.
i have Broadband.
i really hate when forums - not just this one but forums all over the net, in general - dumb-themselves-down and pander to the lowest common denominator (ie: 56k users)
in my view, just because some people have 56k, that is no reason to drag everyone else, the more fortunate, down to their level. :furious3:
PS: i'm not entirely sure if the comments in this post are ok for Frontroom, if not then feel free to edit them out or whatnot. ~:)

Hypothetically, if I am using a dial up 28.8k connection, do I select broadband because it is "anything else"? ~:)
Broadband, but I had rely on a 56k for a week. Smoke signals would be faster, glad it works again.

Broadband. Won't go back to the :veryangry: slow loading times of dial-up

Broadband. And as for the thing about websites pandering to 56k users, i wish people wouldn't do that. After all, the results of this poll show not many people use dial-up anymore.

Broadband, and like most others I would hate to go back to dial up full time. I have however kept my old dial up account open, (lowest level package) for those times when I have lost my connesction (luckily that has only happened a couple of times), and because I just couldn't be bothered to change my e-mail address at the hundreds of different sites I have used. ~:)

Broadband. Currently 576k, but as of next Wednesday it will be 2MB thanks to BT upgrading my connection free of charge and at no extra monthly fee thanks to a need to outdo the competiton.
:froggy ponders the possibilities of a 2MB connection :smitten: :smitten:

If I had answered to this poll this morning, it would have been dial-up.
The bad sides of living slightly of the main city; I get all the fresh air, peace and quiet, and am in downtown within 15-20 minutes with the car, but I barely managed to get an ISDN 128 connection.
You wouldn’t believe the troubles I went through to get broadband, and how many strings I had to pull. ~;)
The fellows that installed the works just left, and I remembered this poll! ~D~D~D
Damn, I already feel as if I could never go back to the ISDN! This speeeeeed!!! Woooohooooo!!! ~D~D~D
I have a 1mbit cinnectuin down, 128k up. Not too bad at all. I don't need a 4mb down 1 mb up connection

I have lite speed bradband, which is slower then most bradband but still trumps down that frustrating and pathetic dial-up. Dial is not only slow to load and generally weak but also takes out the phneline which is dissabilitating.

Used to be dial up. Now Broadband!
One of my mates went to America, and unable to live without the internet, got a 56K connection under what he believed was a local call.
It wasn't.
Suffice to say it would have been cheaper to get broadband for a year and only use it for 2 weeks. Hell, would have been cheaper to call up his ISP here.
I have 2Mbit broadband! Yay!

Moi? Perusing a babe thread? Nah, generally I prefer men, specifically my own pet boyfriend.
I'm a lady frog. It's a fairly common mistake to make, even with the avatar, sig and overuse of cute geisha smilies. :happyg:

Grizz also has 576k connection from bt, how did you get them to do that ?
Mine runs at 52k without fail.
That is the rated speed of the network taking into account protocol overhead, which on TCP/IP runs as high as 90%, so the typical usable data your connection delivers will be approximately 10% of the rated speed, in your case, about 5 or 6kbps.
The last I checked I had...
2004-12-14 15:40:54 EST: 4434 / 349
Your download speed : 4541286 bps, or 4434 kbps.
A 554.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 358394 bps, or 349 kbps.
~
Thank you NYC Timewarner Roadrunner!
Go here to check your bandwidth...
http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest
My cable modem isn't quite giving me the love it used to:
Your download speed : 1021361 bps, or 997 kbps.
A 124.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 262458 bps, or 256 kbps.
Perhaps there's some kid on my local subnet hosting a pr0n site. Sigh. And to think I used to be the bandwidth hog.

Didn't you get a little magazine thingy in the post?
The other competing companies are getting more of the market than BT because they (supposedly, I dunno) offered a bit more for a bit less. BT are increasing the speed of all four of their broadband packages for free in an effort to control more of the market. The speed increase you get depends on your package and on what your line will support; if your existing line can't take the 2MB then you get the closest it can take. The upgrade is automatic, taking about 3 months to filter through according to the Drone on the Phone I spoke to. However because I phoned up to ask when my upgrade was going to happen I was moved a few months ahead :gring:
Just phone up the most suitable looking BT customer service number and start asking about the free broadband upgrade. You should eventually be passed along to the correct Drone.
2005-04-22 05:19:12 EST: 1085 / 1134
Your download speed : 1111432 bps, or 1085 kbps.
A 135.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 1161265 bps, or 1134 kbps.
Thank you BKK (my ISP)!!
[edit]:
I just realised that the above numbers are completely wrong by 10 times…
My line should be a 10Mbit line… then it dawned on me… the test is on an American server a bit far from my computer.
Took another test on a Danish server, a bit closer to home and killed the test.
The TCP test clocked in 6,18Mbit/s download and 4,75Mbit/s upload. The UDP test however crashed as it only has a 15Mbit/s max limit.
The UDP test is needed to calculate your broadband width.
I am again comforted.

Chinanet! Restrictions everywhere! Random slowdowns, disconnects etc.
Your line speed:
1250 Kbps
156 Kbytes/sec
2005-04-22 11:36:50 EST: 2164 / 373
Your download speed : 2166339 bps, or 2164 kbps.
A 270.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 382000 bps, or 373 kbps.
I would never go back to the 56K, either. Besides, broadband is much cheaper here ~D

Yeah it's the same with Telewest's Blueyonder, I started off 512kbs then paid for the upgrade to 1mb, then last year they boosted that to 1.5 free of charge, then in March (IIRC) they boosted it again, this time to 2mbs also free of charge. So I am hoping after seeing your post, that they may decide to increase it again (you never know, they may), to out do the competition. It is good there is competition about, as it means each company has to do something a bit extra to get more customers, and keep existing ones.
pumped up DSL
I played STW and MTW for years on 56K, got DSL for VI, then upgraded to the max for Rome.

As far as I know, none of the companies out there charge that much, not even for their top package. I realise I may be wrong, but I haven't seen £100 per month quoted anywhere. Mine costs £35 pm, that's 2mb p/s and with no caps. If there are any companies with a package at £100 p/m I would be interested to know what you get for that.

56k dial-up and I hate it.
I've never had broadband, but I did have nine months or so of 512kb/s ADSL, unlimited.
Problem was that my flatmate hogged the bandwidth downloading a neverending torrent of porn porn and more porn, so even with what should be a respectable connection, I generally had pings of 800+ ms and had to unplug him at three in the morning to sneak in an hour of online M:TW.
