Hello my folks. I am Other, the most significant member in the .org ...I must be, because I am leading the .Org 2005 elections over at the backroom... Although I can't even post in there yet! Damn, my reputation precedes me!

Anyway, I'd urge some patron thow can post in the backroom, to provide my loyal voters with these words, as I am feeling greatful towards them:

I had just a quick question. I read somewhere (but forgot where!) that there were some provinces that gave you a valour bonus but they were hidden (not listed when you brought up the province information). Is this true and if so, does anyone know which ones they are?

One question I do have is how long does it normally take to get to normal member status. Is it based on number of posts? after length of time? combination of both? how frequently does it happen?

I posted 3 consequetive times in one thread (normally I would've just merged them together into one larger message) in order to bump up my count in order to possibly trigger the change. There are a number of threads in the MTW Main Hall that I would like to respond to but I can't.

Hey there one and all,

Thanks for the outstanding welcomes I,ve recieved from the Guild membership. I really appreciate the sentiments and look forward to having the chance to converse with many of you. I want to say thanks in advance for the opportunities. I have been playing RTW ,and MTW and MTW before that for about six months or so. I consider myself a novice to the computer gaming world although I have been an avid boardgamer for many years. I have thouroughly enjoyed both the "Quietus' Guide to RTW" and the "Guide to RTW" by Froggbeasting. The advice given in them is already being put to good use. I am a little reluctant to try the "fixes" however, due to a lack of computer saavy. Perhaps I can get a little better at this in future.

Hail Everyone,

I'm 19 years old and the byproduct of 1500 years or European Expansionism.

My Father's ancestors were mostly german with a little bit of english,
my Mothers side is mostly Scandinavian with a couple shots of Scotch.:barrel:

I firmly belive that some of my ancestors had to have been berzerkers as
I have a short temper, but I have mellowed out as I have grown older.

I very much enjoy political debate and history.

In early Febuary I had a choice either wait for Kotor 2 to come out or get RTW.
Since I am posting here you know which I chose, a month later I got MTW
and I was completely Hooked. Before then I had been oblivious to the TW franchise, and to ancient history.

I have found the guides both from frogbeastegg and the various posters very helpful. I've been lurking here for months, and i've learned more than i ever thought I would want to know.

I just got BI and I wanted to post my observations on the WRE campaign
but I found out to my dismay that am a junior member.

What happens when you go bankrupt in MTW? If you cannot pay for the support costs of some of your units, do they disband or become disloyal? If you have limited fund, how does the AI decide which buildings gets the funds to continue building and which ones miss out?

While this is not the thread for this discussion.

You keep getting deeper into debt if you can't pay your support costs. You simply won't be able to train new troops or construct new buildings, which is really a bad thing. As a result you generally thin out the number of troops you do have (based on your immediate need... maintain loyalty levels and defensive posture), in order to get things under control.

As to how the AI decides, it flips a coin. The only way you can influence what buildings get built in a situation like that is to remove from the queue anything you don't need built. The AI might decide based on a number of factors. One possibility is that it goes through each of your provinces in alphabetical order, building what it can and moving through each until you run out of money. Other than that it's likely just random, or it builds the cheapest buildings/units first. You pay for buildings and units in a lump sum therefore once you've financed construction, it will get built.

Sadly my laptop couldn't cope with the game and in the end had to be reformatted. Not to be outdone I have put a deposit on a gaming PC and am now waiting for it to be built and delivered. I've posted a few times but never thought to introduce myself. As you can see, I am Minji, that's long for Min, my first name. I am Comanche Indian, Chinese, and Irish. I am 67 years old, and been wargaming for at least 50 years; (wargaming technology has vastly improved).

In the three weeks that I have been posting here, I have been studying the advice of FROGBEASTEGG (love to know where she got that name) and QUIETUS, as well as some fine pointers from too many people to name individually.

I live in Medina, WA, just outside of Seattle, (yes, same town as Bill Gates, who for 7 years, between 1985 and 1992 was my boss at Microsoft). I left after a fairly sizable stroke, and was a vp there. Most of my legacy there was Encarta -- and gosh, do I wish I had royalties. ;^)

I've been a freelancer, reporter, editor, editorial director, publisher. My early reporting days were with The New York Times, Newsweek, Boston Globe and Time magazine. I was publisher of Microsoft Press, the trade book arm of Microsoft.

I am happily married, have children aged 40 to 15, and I bear the proud title of Family Chauffer. I don't get to play these kinds of games very often, mainly because not many great ones like Rome: Total War come along that often.

But I'm pround to be a part of this not-so-motley crew and I look forward to asking many stupid questions. (Even tho Quietus said there are none such, just stupid answers.)

Hi!

I only recently got into forums, although I was semi-aware of the .org for quite a while, mainly because I loved Frogg's unit guide so much.

Yesterday, the .org forums helped iron out something that was bothering me a lot, namely how to play as Novgorod, so I thought I'd join. (And yes, I believe Novgorod is actually quite a bit overpowered, at least in normal mode).

About me: Well, as the nick suggests, I live in the West, namely in Brizzle. However, that changes quite a bit. And no, I am not Welsh, but old Owain always held a certain fascination. (Not English either.)

I mainly play MTW, and am loving my VI extension much more than I thought I would, though I have been thinking about getting the old STW WE out again.

RTW ... well, when I have a bit more time and money again.

Keep up the good work and keep telling me about mods and strategies. ~;)

Maybe overpowered with the virtually unbeatable Boyars but Novgorod is definitely a fun faction to play. As for RTW, the 1.3 version (ie with BI) has got this MTW freak's blessing in most gameplay issues. As for historical accuracy, it's near crap. (Just suppose it's C&C or something like that and you'll enjoy it.) But there is the huge Europa Barbarorum (EB) project nearing completion, which will unleash the true potential of the game soon.

Hi, all. Just joined today. I've been playing the TW games as single-player since they came out - I especially like Shogun TW and Rome TW... I've tried a few of the mods. I look forward to becoming a better TW player and having a good time. I'm open to all suggestions - really wish the game could be played multi-player as far as the strategic game (provinces, economics, diplomacy, spying, etc.) goes... been a boardgamer and play-by-mail computer gamer before PCs arose (still love MOO2 on the PC), but the TW series/genre is the absolute best of all worlds in gaming!

Weclome Nacheras! I think a lot of people are not native English speakers here, so don't worry.

I don't know RTW, but this site turned my MTW empire from a whipping-boy of crusaders (especially Spanish! https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/images/smilies/misc/smile.gif) into a happy and sustainable Sultanate in a few dozen turns, so you can expect to benefit.

Welcome New Members!

I have emerged blinking into the sunlight after loading RTW on my new PC and locking myself away in my spare room (the war room). The game began to drag a bit towards the end of my first and successful Scipii campaign; but now I have changed some of the video settings it plays OK and lots of fun.

Sadly, tonight my monitor packed in - there was a sucking sound and the screen went blank. The power light is no longer on and as all the connections are sound it will have to go back to the shop. ~:confused:

Nothing spectacular to report about the campaign, just suprised by the amount of money I was making by the end. Taking towns in Gaul and Macedonia prevented my rivals from expanding, and only my control of the seas was in doubt.

Hi guys.~:wave: Just signed up. Hope to be around the forums for awhile. These forums are set up a lot better than the official ones.~:) Got the game at the end of July. Played it a little. Then the computer crashed. I didn't reinstall until patch 1.3 came out. For quite a while it sat in the desk drawer. Finally got it out again. At first I was getting frustrated with the way the armies were controlled, but now I am getting the hang of it. It is really good once you get the hang of it. This game is one of those game that I would love to just sit there and watch. The battles are quite cool. Once I have fully got the hang of it, I may get the BI expansion.

Howdy folks, my name is the/de Siem and I'm really just a casual player. probably keep playing RTW until Football manager 2006 comes out. I find controlling 11 men slighty easier than a 1000. :)

I must say this game does remind of American football, has anyone written a guide comparing standard American football tactics to RTW tactics? And has anyone ever created a John Madden RTW mod? Instead of an egg shape ball you could maybe use a dead goat??

Speaking of mods more seriously, is there a mod that includes the Frisians, since I myself am Frisian.

Hmm, intro, i've been playing the total war series since STW, and have them all, though RTW proved a bit too much for my poor little puter, so i went back to MTW, and bought the Viking expansion.
Decided to try the VI version of the med mod i played with standard MTW, but the installation appears to have gone tits up, hence my presence here.

Hi there

I'm darsalon hailing from that small island in north Europe called Britain. Been a long time player of the total war series all the way from Shogun through Medieval to Rome.

Just found the games my ideal thing with resource management and the ability to fight reasonably realistic battles. And maddest moment playing these games is fighting a 6 hour battle as the Danes in MTW against the Saracens. Didn't kill off the general as he fled from the field which meant I had to cope with wave upon wave of reinforcements :furious3: .

And favourite faction has always been the Byzantines in MTW as I've always been one to like changing history.

I am of the older variety, been browsing the Org for a couple of years now. Big fan of MTW, but haven't been so enamoured with what I've played so far of RTW.
Probably just "not my period".

I live in the Inner Hebrides, off the west coast of Scotland, have a degree in Scottish History and Gaelic, and currently work as an IT manager.

Had a new burst of energy for MTW playing the Scots in the XL mod, and also have a vanilla VI French game running, but what I love most about the game is its constant ability to surprise.

It doesnt matter to me if I get "banned" .... I started playing STW about 5 years ago, and quickly proved myself as one of the best players online.
I've already proved myself....

I was just a little "taken-aback" by not being able to post....

So what is up with KenchiTera altering screen shots to get me banned off a forum I didnt even belong to...... ?

I'm guessing you play RTW, so to play this online you simply click multiplayer on the main screen and there is an option to "change cd-key". Click that and type in your unique cd-key which can be found either on the back of the game manual or on the case underneath the cd's.
Once that has been input correctly you can then play online by clicking online battles and inputtingyour player name (whatever you want it to be.)

Make sure you have at least the 1.2 patch so you can play online and then in no time you'll be on the fields of battle. :knight:

Good evening everybody,

I´ve registered in the Org about two weeks ago and since I´ve learned that it is good tradition here to introduce oneself this is what I´m going to do now. :bow:

I am 28 years old, male, student of law and live in Germany. I have learned a lot from other players here in the fora and I enjoy sharing experiences about the game here.

Apparently I missed this thread in my haste to post about MTW, etc. So, um, hi! I'm new. Sort of. I'm part of the 2nd Wave of Cheap Bastards Who Bought MTW Because It was Only 10 Florins at the Local Discount Mart or Your Local Foreign Equivilent Thereof. I found this place while searching for a manual on line (not a Manuel, which is completely different; then I'd end up on some spanish gay dating site, which is an entirely different ball of wax, wouldn't you say? I hope that anyone for whom English is not their primary language doesn't badly misinterpret what I just typed).

Thanks to all who have been kind to me in my newness. The pity of it is I keep coming up with things that I think I discovered, like "hey, the widget device thingie in this section will cause the pope to be constipated on alternate leap years," and people tell me, "We discussed that a long time ago. In fact, FBE wrote a guide on that. And has updated it several times." See: FrogBeastEgg's Guide to Papal Constipation in the Guide section, they say.

To celebrate I got myself a copy of Barbarian Invasion. So far I've not really enjoyed all the hassle managing settlements and trying to prevent the East Roman Empire from falling apart ... so I'm back on the forum looking for some advice ... otherwise its back to conquering the Gauls in RTW.

Sorry, I thought I'd read in your post that you were saving money. I was mistaken ... it's late and I'm being plagued by an AOL pop-up .... but now it's official good luck saving your money!

In BI you can be all kinds of difficult to spell people and the Roman Empire has divided into two - East and West. There are new units as well and battles that can be fought at night. Sounds good but I'm not doing to well at the moment and my Empire is rebelling!

Well guess I ought to introduce myself.

I'm Damien, 21 years and live in Belgium (Dutch part).

Still a student at the University off Gent.
But also work for the Government (007 style) ~:)

My interests/hobby's are everything with European history and extraordinary games like Rtw, with some hot politics thrown in.
And of course drinking and fornication.

Didn’t play online yet.
Scared to get my ass kicked.
