Hello frontroomers! I hope you like this thread.

*****

The meaning of this thread is to have you post about your experiences at the .org. Try to quote your first post, and tell us about your experiences at the org. Please tell us what the org has given you and what you gave the org. ~:)

*****

here's mine:

*****

This is my first post:

:charge: Uesugi da best!

I just gloriously defeated Mori (I killed 1742 men, lost 156) In one year I get 10000 Koku from my lands!
I already defeated: Hojo, Takeda, Oda and Imagawa, None of them had a chance!
I now have Uesugi Kenshin! (19 years, 36 wins, 0 losses)
I already have battlefield ninja's! They are very good!

I'm new, hello people! ~:)

It was about my first Uesugi campaign, it was in this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=40417)

I joined november 2004, just a few weeks after I got my STW WE copy.

My first weeks of the membership I was only in sword dojo learning about STW. I soon found some friends and I got much help with STW.

After about 50 posts, I introduced in the entrance hall and became a full member. I also explored the rest of the .org.

Well, almost 7 months and 1000 posts later, my fav forum is still the sword dojo. I am quite active in frontroom, stw mod. forum, entrance hall now. But ocasionally, you will see me at about all the other forums too.(except MTW forums and the library)

I made a lot of friends at the .org, I never got in a big fight, and I became a respectable STW MP taisho. The org has been great for me and I expect to stay here for a long time. ~:)

*****

That should be it.

See you guys later! ~:)

Well, check when you joined, which month and which year. Then try to think in which forum you was active when you just joined. Look for topics in which you participated and check the forum's page which has it's last posts just after you joining.

For instance, you are an STW-player, and joined jan 2005. look in sword dojo for threads that you've posted in and with the last post in feb 2005.

Hope you find it out.

This is the first thread I started at the org:

Crusade is draining my army (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=17027)

The first post in that thread was my second post overall, IIRC (my first post was a minor one).

After lurking some time I joined the org as this turned out to be a very mature and diverse gaming website (and very informative for a new M:TW player as well)

After a short time the Tavern Backroom with was the place that attracted me most and kept me coming regularly to the org. The Tavern is the place were I mostly post but I keep lrking the gaming forums to gather information and tips for the TW games ~:)

I did the MTW economics thread talking bout the reliability of trade...

Them I quickly did the MTW condensed economics guide...

I have done absolutely nothing else useful for the community, I have helped people in the past but I don't have enough time to play anymore...so I just backroom and occasionally post and help when I have time to venture out...

My first post was on my favorite tactics to use in MTW. Here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=28379&highlight=Tactics) it is. Hmm, I never said 'thanks' to those who replied, or even acknowledged Gregoshi's friendly greeting. Shame on me.

My first post Hello, and Thanks (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=16931) Gregoshi gave me the title of Chief Sniffer

After a while I made the suggestion to do away with the old system of membership - Junior Patron/Senior Patron/Junior Member/Senior Member - and create the system we have today (altho to be honest a few others had lots of ideas that led to the current system).

I was elected to be an AM in the MTW MP forums, along with CBR . After Rome came out CBR and I were made AMs in the Rome MP forums, which I helped name the Campus Martius (again based on another members' suggestion, but I helped).

I soon realized that I wasn't interested in RTW MP, and decided to give up being an AM since the MTW MP forums weren't busy. But Kukrikhan asked me to help out in the Spartan forum where I now await the surge of activity that will come with the release of the console title.

The mods in the Backroom warned me once and deleted a post where I made some French jokes, but otherwise I've stayed on the right side of the law.

With Spartan still on the distant horizon and MTW MP limping along I have a lot of free time and frequently find myself getting in fights in the Backroom (or creating Burrito polls). Gah!

My first post was a "Hello All!" in a welcome thread. I can't find it now but the first thread i made was here.

Fall of the Italian Empire (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=16898)

Even back then I was toying around with writing battle stories ~:) . Now look at me AM of the Mead Hall, locked in a dark corner. Wow, it's really been two years ~D . When i discovered the .org i was a little hesitant to post, but the atmosphere here was just amazing. A lot better than most of the internet forums at the time.

I lurked around the EH and MH posting some stories of my own (way before the Mead Hall), not really getting into backroom discussions or that lot. Just talking TW and helping where I could. After a while the influx of battle stories prompted the creation of the Mead Hall, and I was put up in the election to be it's AM. But I lost to Froggy ~ It made no matter to me as i liked the Mead Hall and posted many stories of my own. It became my home on the .org ~;)

Though when Froggy got a promotion to full Moderator I was again put into the next election, this time winning. I became the AM of the Mead Hall where I am today.

I think that my first post was about a map modding question, in the RTW modding subforum, although it might have been in the Age of Hellas mod thread, I am not quite sure. I would quote it, except that I don't want to look through every map questions thread in RTW modding, since there are probably 300 in there...

Ahhh... here is my first post (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=714425), enjoy the map-making confusion!

Anyway, for quite a while I never left the RTW modding forums, except for a quick visit to the entrance hall . Then I went away for a while; when I came back, I plunged into the tavern, creating quite the splash :winkg:

A short history to chronicle a short (but growing) time at the .org.

You can find my first post in this thread. (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=16817&page=3&pp=20) I found tihs forum soon after I got MTW, and only posted in the games forums for a bit, as I wasn't aware of the Tavern at this point. I then spent a fairly uneventful year and a bit, in which I mastered the OWS and got made a Senior Member at some point-I've never been able to figure out why, to be honest.

Then, about a year ago, the Frontroom was created, and I volunteered for the AM position. I got it, and was very grateful for the oppurtunity. A few months back, when Hosa was indisposed, the Powers That Be decided I had paid my dues, and made me a staff mod.

Other notable events include coming runner up to Soly and MRD in the "Most interesting Tavern personalities" category at last years hall of fame awards, and helping Monk get his five hundred posts in the OWS, which he then wrote a story about. That was pretty cool.

Good ol Sword Dojo! Back then your avator used to change depending on your post count, so you started as a Ashiguri (sp?) then work your way through the various Shogun units, until you reached 500 where you could choose your own! First post:
:charge: You guys are wrong about the max battler size in campaign mode. My computer has serious issues when there are over 6000 troops fighting at once, but I was able to play a giant battle where I had four of my max size Seluecid armies fighting against a max size Thracian army that was trying to lift my siege. The armies totalled well over 5000 troops all told and none of my reinforcements were delayed. Needless to say the Thracians were slaughtered, though it did take a long time due to the lag. And yes this was in campaign mode. It was at the city located slightly to the east of Byzantium.

The Org has been great! Got to know about some mods and debate (argue) in the backroom. I joined November 1st 2004.

It seems from reading the techy forum on the Org that Im not alone in having problems running MTW. I cant play the campaign game but I can play single battles and historical campaigns. If I try single player campaign I get booted back to the menu. Just as I try to load up a 2nd red bar appears just above the loading bar and I end up back at the menu. Im running a p4 2.4 gig, 256m ram, ATI rage 128 video card, avanche ac97 sound and a whole pile of xxxx that they laffingly call Win XP.......I,m convinced that its the file system on XP thats causing these probs not just 4 me but 4 a lot of folks. The XP I have is running in NTFS not FAT 32. Looks like an Fdisk in order to restore Fat 32, which is gonna b tough cos microsoft dont give u a hard copy of XP only the rescue disks which install the NTFS file system. Cheers Bill another winner.....not Apache

I did get it fixed...but I cant remember what the problem was now....ahh...got it. It was a video card problem iirc.

nb. It might seem rude that I didnt say hello, but as it happened I knew them all from my MP days on STW, so it didnt even occur to me...anyway... hello ~

My first post:

It sounds like the problem lies in your strategy not your tactics. Play the game at an easier level and autoresolve the battles (I can hear the sniggering already), the idea is to see what strategy works not your tactical ability.

This is a very quick way of finishing a campaign, at hard level it can take 40 minutes to win as the Mongol Horde and about 1hr 20 to win as Hojo on medium.

Make as many alliances as possible, expand towards one end... if you are in the middle I tend to go left as there are less daimyos.

If I go right its with a large army and I pretend I'm the horde, so stay mobile and hit as many castles as possible and sell off everything. Don't seige just let one of the opposing clans do this.
Use a non-heir general who you can kiss goodbye.

I found the org before STW was even released. I was one of those early addicts who played the STW battle trainer demo and waited a month for the game to be released. I never registered, but I kept on reading.

I had an account over on .com first, because a chap called Bushface made some useful maps, and I wanted a copy. I had some information he wanted to add to the maps, so I typed it up and sent it over to him. I came over to the org to offer the same information. The topic was called “frog stops lurking!”, and I don’t have time to search for it now.

Bushface and I went into co-production of some tech trees (the official one for VI was full of errors …) and information sheets, listing things like unit building requirements, honour bonuses, and so on. Meanwhile on the org I pottered about, usually answering questions on MTW.

That led to me writing the beginner’s guide, at the joking prompting of a patron called Inigo Montoya. It grew and grew, and ended up with pinned versions in both the main hall and the entrance hall. I also ended up being responsible for the post size limit being increased at this time, to double the previous limit. Oh, and I acquired the frog space; org hosting for whatever pictures my guides need.

Somewhere about this time I started to dabble with fiction, in a very crude and crappy way. But then I’d never written anything but essays for university etc before. This sort of sparked a surge of interest in writing fiction, poetry and so on at the org. There had been some in the past, in the STW days, but it seemed to have died out quite some time before I registered.

Then people kept asking what I would write after the beginner’s guide. So I did the unit guide. Er, that led to another post size limit increase, if I recall correctly. Certainly I’ve been the source of the limit being upped three times, but quite when the second time was I’m a little unsure. It also led to the creation of a hidden forum where I could assemble the mammoth project in peace. At around 200 pages in MS Word, and filled with coding for pictures and text effects, it was a nightmare to handle without constant previewing.

I can’t remember whether I became one of the first two Assistant Moderators before or after the unit guide was published … so I will stick that part here :tongueg: The upsurge in stories and poetry led to the request for a dedicated forum. Et voila; we got the mead hall. A new rank of moderator was created for this forum, and the sister forum established at the same time, and both AM posts were filled by nomination and election.

In February 2004 I hit full moderator status, with the new games related forum: the Arena. This is when Monk took over as custodian of the Mead Hall.

Some time later the org created the MTW guides forum, and the founding mod, Cheetah, asked me to be back up mod.

In the Hall of Fame 2003 I won 3 awards: best story, most useful media, most innovative SP strategies. I also got some runners up in other categories.

In September 2004 the RTW guide forum was set up. That time I was the primary mod.

Within a couple of weeks of buying RTW I published the first version of my RTW beginner’s guide, by popular demand. That too has endlessly refined, expanded and updated. Um, this is where I had the post size limit increased for the third time.

Now I don’t post much; I’m a lot busier in real life, and a lot of my org time is sucked up into ‘business’, like reading my forums. I’m still writing fiction in the Mead Hall, much improved since those horrible first scribblings, and actually reasonably decent now. I’m also painfully slowly trying to complete my RTW guide.

That’s the short version of the frog’s org history, leaving out quite a bit.

Talking about the carthage thing, i'm sort of stuck in a giant on-going war between me and the scipii. I have the settlement that carthage always has at the beginning of the game, and the scipii just keep sending massive armies to attack me. It's utter mayhem.

My org history? Well, since you asked . . .

I came across the org about a year ago after finding a banner ad for RTW on the 'net. Here I met a number of optomistic souls who encouraged me to buy RTW on the outside chance it would run on my wimpy laptop.

I did, it didn't, I cried. It still sits on my shelf in it's screaming red box, waiting for me to buy a new computer.

But all was not lost. I discovered MTW at the local CompUSA and have been addicted to the game ever since.

My first posts? Some of your may remember these beauties:

Early Post No. 1 (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=36609)

Early Post No. 2 (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=37025)

Well, after that, it was simply inevitable that I would be made a member, shortly after which Lemurmania and I started a spirited discussion centered around midnight rituals and demonic possessions. As a result, we were swiftly tossed back here to the Tavern, where I was encouraged to wax away on any topic I wanted.

Which I did. For about six weeks.

Unfortunately, my employment changed a bit, I started to travel, and [gasp!] became a lurker. Now I just come by to check on updates for Froggy's stories and to see what the latest poll is, but I haven't written one of my Musings in a long, long time.

Maybe I'll start again someday.

This is my first post in my first thread "best invasion ever" in september 2002:

I wonder if you can beat that one:

Sardinia was Italian but then became independent. There was 1 ballista one the whole island but nobody took it for decades.
After my crusade to Palestine was successful I send away the fanatics or better the fanatic. Actually, the last battle in Egypt left just a single man of them. After a while I checked the merceneries and what did I see: the single fanatic was for hire!
So I hired him and invaded with him alone Sardinia. He actually managed to destroy the ballista and kill the entire 8 men crew. So Sardinia was mine and the fanatic was it`s garrison what seemd to be enough. Loyalty was instantly about 110%.
However the same trick didn`t work in Venice; maybe 800 men were just a bit TOO many for my glorious fanatic!

It hasn`t been beaten yet!

After I bought MTW, I was troubled by regular CTDs, though I was looking out for a patch. While waiting for it, I read the Main Hall here. Back then, I didn`t have an internet connection at home so I had to go to the university PC room. I lost there countless hours!
After the patch saved my game, I stayed because I could get useful information. I had joined just before the EH was introduced. After a while I more and more occupied the Tavern until I was busy mostly there instead of the Main Hall. There, I enjoyed many heated but mostly civil discussions with patrons both right and left. After half a year I was raised to Senior Member and shortly after, Tosa asked me if I would like to become a Moderator. I declined because of my arckward access. But another half year later, I got a fast connection of my own and informed Tosa that it would now be possible. Incidently, tootee had just resigned as Mod of the Jousting Field and Tosa wanted me to take over. But since I had never played a MP game I was reluctant. Fortunately, Rob volunteered to do the Jousting Field instead of the Tavern and so I became Hosakawa Tito`s Mod-trainee. I quickly got feared by friend and foe and over one and a half year, I became one of the most hated Mods of the Org (as several Watchtower-topics attest).
Especially proud it made me when patrons complained for being unfairly banned by me in spite of the fact that Mods can`t ban anyone.
This april a Moderator was needed for the Ludus Magna, and since I was one of the few Mods who still played Rome, I accepted the offer to run the LM instead of the Tavern. And there I am still pretending I were the force behind the LM (and not therother), until a replacement is found, after I will return into the grey mass of merely mortal patrons.
