Excellent championship! I loved it. But, the referees sucked all the time.
The game with Greece....Man, Long live Greece!!!

Buzzer beater!!! 3 point basket with 3 seconds left!!!
Eliminated France after they had the game in the bag.

Arghh...tell me about it!

I m Greek and had season tickets for basketball since I was 14 so I just love Basketball...

...however...

...I am living and working in England and no TV station will show or mention basketball here...its like a taboo or something...I doubt anyone else knows its the Euribasket...

...I dunno...

...on the other hand we had a month of so of daily, hours long coverage of the fast paced and exciting game of cricket ~D ...

...So I got to watch exactly 0 (zero) games of this Eurobasket. To add insult to injury Greece is all the way to the finals! :dizzy2:

I saw that the Germany-Spain game went down to the last seconds as well. I am missing some very good basketball here... :embarassed:

Anyhows, GO GREECE GO! If the footie guys can do it then the basketball guys can too. :charge: :charge: :charge:

Of course I ll be listening to it from online radio...

The last minute of the game was really cheap. The greeks spent their time making obvious faults so the french couldn't play.. The last part (which should have last 1 min 12 sec) lasted around 10 minutes. :balloon2:

Basket rules really need some changes.

This is how last minute basketball plays. You gota keep sending the opponent to shoot free throws if you are behind on points. What did you want em to do, wait patiently for 24 seconds to pass?

Anyway, it must have been a good game to see, but someone has to win in the end.

I'm not bitching espiecally at the greeks. The french would likely have done the same thing if they were a few points behind. I just think that basketball rules are totally screwed up.

Didn't France knock out - or beat - Bosnia, the 2nd best basketball nation , US being number 1.

I thought that was a good game for the French.

Haven't been following the Eurobasket though.

HOW THE GREEKS DO IT ??? DAMN !!! (FOOTBALL AnD BASKETBALL)

About England , they did not participated in 1930 , 1934 and 1938 world cups (football) because they thought they are the best ~D .........ans so they consider basketball as nothing - good for them .

:balloon2:

Greece has been good since the 80's ( we almost did not know what basketball is before that ) and thanks to a small number of very talented players who won the Eurobasket 87 and came second at 89 ( the two 'best' players from this national team reached the European Championship final 4, three times playing for Aris Thessaloniki as well).

Because of these succeses Greece became basketball crazy and has a strong championship and national team ever since. The problem is that since the early 90's there is a lot of talent around but not a clear leader ( like Nikos Galis was for the 80's team ). Now there are 10 players who are all good enough to play the whole 40 minutes but no clear leader. Playing very strong and good defence and having a lot of players able to score double digits ( making defence against the team hard) are the biggest advantages.

Germany's has won it at 93 I think but they have always been around. Not a 'classical' basketball team like Spain Italy Greece and the ex-Yugoslavian and ex-USSR countries, but they have proven to be able to win it. I dunno much about the team since I havent watched em play but they got Drik Nowitzki and that says it all....

So...i think:

Greece:

-Advantages:

-10 equally good players
-strong defence

-Disadvantages:

-No leader

Germany:

-Advantages:

-Dirk Nowitzki...no need to say more.

-Disadvanages:

-A world where Greece wins the football Euro and Germany wins the basketball one will implode upon itself and dissapear into darkness and chaos...

Rasofors,

May I remind you of something?!

The name Papaloukas, the point guard? And Papadopoulos, the center?

Anyways, I'm off to the game. Go Greece!!! ~

Half time 39-32.

Thanx to the internet I can get some good idea of what goes on in the game...

...a good point difference but nowhere near a safe lead...all greece-germany games are close...no team ever won with more than 8 points...

...the Greek team seems to play well with the ability to harass inside the key and obtain some good shots from outside...

...Nowitzki hasnt been stoped from shooting and has scored 1/3 of Germany's points BUT he had to take way to many shots to do so... 2/4 2 pointers and 1/5 3 pointers... 3/9 in total.

If the game goes on this way then Greece has the advantage :charge:

I am missing a good game I think :help:

P.S I am not forgeting Papadopoulos and Papaloukas but neither is a definitive leader of the team. Watching the score board no greek player has more than 15 ppg in this Euro. ~:)

Yay...

78-62 and Greece is the European Basketball Champion!!!

Papaloukas with 22 points is the leading scorer for the Greek team, Nowitzki with 23 the first scorer for Germany.

An exciting game with Greece taking an early lead and holding it with Germany being awlays dangerous. When Nowitzki went to the bench the Greek team fired the engines and secured the game :)

Who would have though that Greece would be the European Basketball AND football champion...I wonder if that has been done before...

/me buys everyone a beer ~ :balloon2: ~ :balloon2:
