Hello everyone,
I've recently been playing BI Campagin, and due to lack of time, I seem to let my Generals do my battles, only those with 8 command starts, though! But they suck!!! I'm like a more 'MP' player, who plays all battles, and really, I see no difference between a General with 8 stars or one with 1 star, they both will lose hard battles. What do you think??

It all depends on the difficulty level setting that you chose for your campaign map. Auto-resolving battles is a thing I always avoid, especially when playing on the harder difficulty settings. The auto-calculation is rediculously bad on VH, and I had to learn that the hard way :san_sad:
Once I had an army of 10 units of Roman legionaries and a few roman cavalry and archer auxilia units as support. In total, they numbered approximately 1500 men. They were lead by a 2-star general and I decided to attack a nearby Gallic captain who only had a few units (5 to be precise) of normal warband spearmen. I didnt feel like figting such an insignificant battle and so I auto-resolved it..... and I lost! I had a better general, troops of a higher quality AND i outnumbered them by 500 men, but I lost anyway! Approximately half of my army perished while the Gauls only lost a few hundered men :san_huh:
Beware of the auto-resolve ! It would be masochistic to use it :san_tongue:

I always play on VeryHard/VeryHard. And damn this sucks, because I only have 512 RAM it takes some time to load battles, so I must do the auto resolve scenario. The other day, my Hunnic army of 500 men (Normal Scale Unit) lost against a Sassaind army of 13 men, and those 13 men were Cibirani Immortals. Though, even in normal difficulty, does a 5 star general differ than a 1 star general in auto-resolve battles?

The differance is morale your sodiers recive by having the general close. Higher the leval higher the moral

So the stars of your general in-no-way affect the result of an auto solved battle??

Yes they do, but the effect isn't big enough to make up for the huge bonuses that the AI recieves when auto-calculating a battle.
And welcome to the forums! ~:grouphug:

Aha! So I need to do all the killing with my hand and the mouse :P
Thank you all for your help concerning this matter.
Though, in M: TW, was that the same??

Actually, the stars of a general do matter a lot. Have a look at this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=37001): one of the developers answers your question there. It is just that at VH strategic difficulty the A.I. gets a big bonus in auto-calc while at VH battle difficulty the A.I. gets something like +8 attack and +4 defence.
In M:TW it worked pretty much the same: generals gave a morale bonus to nearby units depending on their command ability. Also, they gave +1 attack for every odd command star and +1 defence for every even one (roughly: +1 valour/experience for every two stars, but without the morale bonus). The difference was that M:TW only had one difficulty parameter, and the A.I. recieved only minor stat boosts (+10% attack defence at hard; +15% attack/defence, +5 morale at expert, IIRC). Increasing difficulty level also made the M:TW A.I. smarter. I am afraid the same cannot be said of the R:TW A.I.

Well, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!
But ain't +8 attack +4 defence a little too much? It's still easy to beat, though it doesn't seem to be the same for my generals.

It seems I can't edit my post. But I think that with my armies having +1 attack point with every command star and also some morale bonus, it becomes fair. As the A.I. generals don't seem to get many stars anyway. So I answer my question after some thinking :P
Sorry for double posting.

+8A/+4D is indeed much, but it is fortunatly independent of command. The command bonus for the computer is also +1A times the number of stars.

So if I want to test a 1 on 1 with 2 units (for MP play), should I do that on easy/medium?

Medium. I think that on easy the player's army gets a bonus.
