I have been playing RTW BI expansion for a while now and the rebels never bothered me, but now they are really stating to “piff” me of. Is there a way of stopping them popping up all over the place or removing them entirely I’m sure I read it somewhere or I my have dreamed it ether way I would appreciate some help or a link to somewhere.

I know this is probably the wrong place to post this but I cant post anywhere else.

Do a search. This has came up before.

What I remember is changing the brigand spawn value in descr_strat file. I'm not sure if it will work in the middle of a campaign.

Though, the in-game sollution is put taxes to low. I think the higher your taces the bigger the chance for them to come up.

Yes but that's for brigands, not for rebelions in cities. Solution I had for rebelions - let them rebel, then recapture the city and exterminate population. Brings a very large amount of money, and the population will be quiet for a very long period. Of course, the city size is smaller, but that's better than to meddle with rebels every turn.

As far as brigands are concerned, I like to use them for experience gathering for my generals.

The OP was talking about brigands popping up all over the place, not about rebellious cities.

He wrote rebels. It's a term that can be understood differently. RTW makes a difference by calling ones brigands and the others rebels (Nalbandean rebels, this rebels, that rebels etc.)

The important thing is, the answer is here and the problem is solved.

If you find rebels "fun", start up a BI campaign use the saxons or franks or berbers or whoever else you want that has access to northern docks...and swim some ships out into the english channel, other northern waters (any of em) at very top of the map...heh...

Go to your 'Rome - Total War\' folder -> 'BI\' -> 'Data\' -> scroll down until you find the 'descr_rebel_factions.txt' file and open it -> scroll all the way down and you'll see the 'Brigands' entry -> change the 'chance' entry to 0.

This should work, however I have never tried setting the value to zero before and am not quite sure if it indeed gets rid of them or perhaps crashes the game.

You can also set the chance of other types of rebels to zero to completely get rid of them.

The same file for the original is in 'Rome - Total War\Data\'.
