View Full Version : Best possible workaround for seige tower bug
You know the bug that makes soliders stuck in towers when seiging large stone walls?
Well here is it.
When soliders get stuck, order them to go outside tower and then order back to walls.
Repreat that as many times as needed. Every time some solider will get through the tower.
P.S.
Doesn't help with stuck AI though.
Also, (only for BI games) I was able to get the unit to go into a shieldwall formation. I selected the unit and used the right click drag (then 'R' for double time) feature to disengage the unit from the tower. It doesn't completely disengage, but it cycles through trying to go up the tower and trying to go to it's new destination. Then you're able to put the unit in shieldwall formation. This has only worked once for me.
I usually just right click the top of the wall, wait for 3-6 soldiers to go in the tower, then right click on the top of the wall again.

You can also simply order your troops to stop, then re-order them onto the walls. This works best for me since they won't leave the tower base area (where they are often secure from incoming fire) and you can do it without changing your viewpoint.

You can also do this with any unit in any situation. I´ve had cavs that got partially stuck in a breach of a wall, archers that are stuck in "rock-formations" on the battlefield map etc. Stop current order and re-ordering OR move to another location always solves this.
I'd actually argue that the best and indeed only way to solve this frustrating hangover from 1.5/1.6 is to mod large stone walls out of the game completely. Granted it's not as easy and requires more modding effort, but it helps the AI.

I usually don't build them or build them and immedeatly upgrade to epic.
But all in all, I'd like to have stone walls as the largest, seeing as the larger ones won't allow sapping or ladders and therefore substract from the game. But that's IMO only.

It is very easy to mod out large and epic walls... which is of course the ultimate solution to this bug.
...and losing epic walls as collateral, since they are not bugged...
Why don't you just make stone walls upgrade to epic walls?
It could be done if you delete large wall entry, but that will make a problem for old saves (good for brand new mod on the other hand).
Yes, if you're in the middle of a game and some of the cities already have large stone walls then you're kind of screwed.
