For those that don't know: New Wave of British Heavy Metal, was a wave of british metal bands that appeared after punk broke out in the music scene - they were metal heads that loved the classics such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Led Zepellin, yet brought some of the blast energy and do it yourself of punk into metal - they played louder and faster than ever before instead of being too arty or esoteric..
some of those bands made it eventually big - most notably Iron Maiden [and a few others, for example Def Leppard were part of that too back then] - yet their greatest influence were on metal heads on the other side of the Atlantic - most notably on what became known as the San Francisco bay area scene that was essentially proto-thrash - Slayer, Exodus, Megadeath and of course Metallica.. [Anthrax also were big fans of NWOBHM bands]
The Holocaust were one of the rawest and most inspired bands of that scene..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxvR3YZQyoA
Perhaps the best of the NWOBHM bands that had the potential to develop into something huge - but actually never released another album after its amazing debut "lightning to the nations" - were Diamond Head.. Diamond head played at the razor's edge between Sabbath and Zepellin..
Postmuthsly, Metallica [who were big fans] covered their songs 'Am I Evil' and 'Helpless' in their garage days EP in 1988 [that EP basically was a back to basics for the band in order to introduce their new bassist jason newsted {of Flotsam and Jetsam previously} into the band, after the tragic demise of Cliff Burton].. Both songs are a testament to what the band could have been..

Belinda Carlisle started as a cult figure of the LA punk scene, initially as the drummer of the Germs, before becoming the singer of the new wave girl band the Go Go's. The band scored hits and were the first all girl band to play their instruments and write their songs.
Unfortunately they also were into cocaine and Belinda developed a serious addiction that was oversome by help from her eventual husband film producer Morgan Mason [he appears in the clip below]

electronic were a supergroup of the late 80's early 90's, made up chiefly by Johny Marr [guitarist and composer of the smiths] and Bernard Sumner [vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist, lyricist and composer of New Order]. The pet shop boys also heavily participated in their first album of the same name, while for the second Karl Bartos of kraftwerk made contributions.
This is from their third and final album of the same name [twisted tenderness]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-He7zRi7nY
"One" was the song that brought it all together for u2 and their first 90's album "Achtung baby", recorded in Berlin and in Ireland.
The band was looking for a new direction in order not to repeat their 80s selfs with bono and the edge wanting to experiment with ethnic, electro and industrial sounds, and adam clayton and larry mullen wanting to stick to the classic rock sounds the band was known for.
After several frustrating weeks of tensions and disagreements that led nowhere, the band sat to improvise and behold, they got effortlessly "one".. the rest of the album soon followed suit..
One has three video clips - the original shows buffalos running in the fields, the official one was directed as any other of the period, and lastly there is one set in a jamming session in Berlin to relate the story behind the song..

Lisa Gerrad formed Dead Can Dance with fellow Australian Brendan Perry- the name of the band refered to the rythmical oriental music she was listening from Greek and Turkish neighbours - and they put litteraly eastern and western ancient melodies and rythms within the framework and modern music.
She collaborated with Hans Zimmer in the soundtarck for Gladiator that proved to be a great success

Just purchased the MP3 album of this...
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=53S32ZqvTKc
It's not a "live" album in the traditional sense (contract filler cash-in with audience) but a live re-recording of an already classic Death Metal album with a modern polished sound.
You only need the first two Obituary albums and, apparently, they've re-recorded the second album like this as well.
So, I'll have to check that out at a later date...
For now... it's back to 1989.
Sort of...
