Do you ? What's your game of choice : Sports betting, black jack, poker, the stock market ?

I invest in the stock market, but as I am in it for the long haul it is not gambling. I don't do short term things as the odds of winning are not great to say the least!

I have a small amount of money in the Premium Bonds as well.

I have blackjack nights with friends, occasionally throw money in the slotmachines and went to the casino 2 times.

Nothing spectaculair, think I've won €200,- in all spread over several years.

Sports betting, some card games - all small stakes stuff. Although my retirement plan hinges on matching 6 numbers with our Governor's lottery :)

I play poker occasionally, not for any real big amounts of money though. I treat the low-scale gambling I do as an activity that is fun...if I lose money, it is a small cost to pay for an enjoyable evening.

Same here Lehesu..

silly thing is I can spend well over €50,- just on liquer on a saturdaynight without regretting (well, the next day when I get the headache I do), but when I lose €5,- (in 10 games of €0,50) I can get really frustrated...

Only in combination with being screwed up, preferrably being drunk and high. Some of my friends and I do it for fun. The point is usually to brag about how much you lost though, and just to have fun not knowing what the heck is going on.:laugh4:

Do I gamble - every day is a gamble.....

However I do place wagers down on several different things spread out through the year.

Twice a year I go to Louisana to do a little Riverboat gambling hitting the Blackjack and Craps tables. Craps has a strange alure for me, I know it will normally end up with me losing - but damn it I just want that "Yo Eleven"...

I also go about once every two monthes to play in a poker tournament - its a lot of fun for very low cost - normally on $50 and I have basically gotten it to pay for itself. ie I can normally place in the money.

And then once a year I try to go to the track to do a little betting on the horses.

All in all - I have made a few dollars gambling over the years - (however I am sure I have lost it back over the years also.)

No, although I have made several abortive attempts to understand poker. Maybe one day I will, course then I will have to get good at it, being from Vegas and all.

But the rest of you, you should all at least twice a year come to the magnificent City of Sin and blow lots of cash. You won't regret it, especiall you Kuri. Why bet on the lottery when you can bet on Megabucks instead?

Craps in Vegas at the Casino Royale mid strip. Love it.

Play the pass line with odds, and you reduce the house edge to the best odds in all of Vegas. Comes to about a 0.54% house edge. Yep you heard right.

For every $100.00 you put down at the table, you will walk home with $99.46 statistaclly speaking, provided that you never spend the house's money. That means you get to play and drink all night virtually for free.

Once you win back your original playing money in house cash, then feel free to play the field, or the Big 6 Big 8 or hard numbers, but don't touch those until after you win your cash back on the basic passline with odds bet.

PLayed with $600 last time, came home ahead at $680. I would have had more, but I tipped the dealers $25 and played hard tens when ever the button was on it.

Final note: Know your shooters and Know if you are a shooter or not. If you crap out quick twice in a row as the shooter, then just skip the dice when they come your way. Nobody wins if you don't feel your luck as the shooter. Last time I went, I got burned twice up, so I just skipped it. Some random black dude came up and just tore the house to shreds every time he had those dice! I'll never forget this guy. Every time he rolled, he yelled in his gritty Louisina accent, "Comon dice, aaaaaah!!!" Bizarre, but what a shooter. :2thumbsup:

You are a good man DA, even if I have never heard of the Casino Royale. Did you go anywhere else while in Vegas? 'The Wynn' has a great buffet.

I guess I'm a disgrace to my genetics, as possibly the only Irishman in history that has never gambled - not even on the gee-gees.

My mother taught me that if I had any spare money, I should invest it or donate it to charity. Yup, I'm that square.

I play a lot of poker. I was going to go to the casino and play tonight but I am too tired. The missus said:

"Why not do something else?"
"Good idea" I said "I'll invite some of the regulars over to play cards"
"No, something other than poker"

"What is this 'other than poker' you speak of?" :inquisitive:

I'm living in Las Vegas; I never gamble. Nor drink. Nor acquire the services of prostitutes. Nor visit half, nor even one-tenth, nor one-hundredth, of the hotels.

I really don't see any attraction in gambling at all. I have a paper shredder, could just feed cash into that and get the same reward. Whatever turns you on, I guess.

When I have cash to burn there's a world full of hard liquor, loose women, and illicit drugs out there, not to mention adventure on the high seas (oh, and the mortgage and pension plan) :laugh4:

Play poker with me mates every few months. It's more an excuse for a beer and a curry and a bit of laugh, really. Got one this weekend, Texas Hold'em. My luck often runs good and I usually come away with the most money but that's certainly not fooling me into taking it seriously. I've got no illusions about my poker playing!

The lemur seems to have a talent for cards. Last time I was in a casino, I started playing blackjack with $100, and walked out with $2500. I've never come away from a for-money card game with a loss.

I should probably use this skill more often, but I'm worried my luck/skill won't hold out forever, so I gamble sparingly.

The only wisdom I have learned about gambling is never drink heavy and gamble. You come out the loser everytime.

Anyone ever wonder why in Casino's the drinks are free........ (the drinks are really free in the end.)

With the dawn of free periods in 6th Year at school, we regularly gamble in the canteen alongside our idle bets. We play poker from time to time, and Scubby Queen (which does not involve money, rather the well-being of ones knuckles...)

I don't gamble btw, since I'm too poor/cheap. I'd like to try my luck sometime, but I doubt I have the winner mentality, I always let other people win in games (cards or board games) because I want to 'try something really cool'. Maybe if I'd have money riding on it, I'd be a little more careful ?

IMHO the stock market is definitely gambling, it's not much different from sports betting, you just try to pick the winners...

You're right of course*. :embarassed:

However, I took the question and poll to be aimed at what we would normally consider gambling/gaming rather than all aspects of life that might be termed a 'gamble'.

In the wider sense, you could say I was an addictive gambler merely for risking our beloved road network! :scared:

(*I hope I didn't come across as 'holier than thou' in my original reply. I was taught to be careful with money and gambling in the usual sense was not a pastime I would have enjoyed because of that 'conditioning'. I have no issue with those who enjoy the activity).

Yep , what odds would you give that the driver behind you hasn't even got a license, about 4:1  the odds on them being drunk ....I suppose that varies widely on the area and time of day .

Scubby Queen (which does not involve money, rather the well-being of ones knuckles...)
I knew it as, in English, bloody knuckles. I used to play cards a lot in school. My cousin and I got so much money for charging people to protect their money, because there was this kid that not many could take in a fit and he would steal their money. Then, when some kid thought that using money in the actual game instead of paying later was stupid, he brought chips and slips. After you won, you tallied up how much everyone owed you.
My favorite gambling of course, was when I was 12-15. I would pick some guy who thot we was great, bet him I could beat him up, and then punch them until they fell down. I would then ask him if he had enuff. If not, the I would sit over him and punch him while he was down. If he didn't pay after that, I searched him for his wallet and took a little more for my troubles. I had it down to a science. It ended when I turned 15 because that was the year when I was no longer small.

I am about zero gain/loss at Las Vegas blackjack (two occasions).

I did my best gambling at the Del Mar horse racing track, also on two occasions. I think I made between $250 and $300 in one day.

The key was that I went to the paddock and watched the horses before the race. I chose a horse that was in a good mood. I don't care how good a horse is, if it doesn't want to run, it won't win.

The best gamble was on a horse that was 19-1. I chose it because it was the only horse that looked ready to go. The most exciting was when another horse I chose came from fourth in the outside of the last turn to win in a photo finish. I was next to the fence at the finish line when they came across. They had to delay the announcement to check the photos.

I think you'll find that's not gambling but extortion with menaces. I guess 15 is the age of criminal responsibilty in Armenia and you would have started facing jail?

Nope its a gamble , a gamble that the person you pick on is neither faster nor meaner than you are .
Now some people do wish to try and tilt the odds , by producing a blade for example , but that often means that the persons losses are far greater .

BTW Banquo , I cannot believe you don't play 25 , and as for gambling on the roads , you spent too long out foriegn , its bloody hard to adjust again innit .

See, there is the gamble. I stopped not because of facing jail, but because no one wants to pick a fight with a big guy. I was very small for my age up until that point.
